Nice tutorial. However, real roads are usually planar. How can one make a road that closely follows the terrain vertical deformation, but is horizontally planar?

Stamp tool to drop in 'planar' objects, Drape tool to drop in objects that conform to the terrain. You'd have to model the driveways to reflect the terrain (elevation) changes. Try draping the driveways first, then pull them up and remodel them into something more drive-able, then stamp that onto the terrain.
