I have found placing a house on a sloping terrain (and making it look good!!) is so difficult and I have scoured the internet trying to find how to do this...finally...thank you for this tutorial, it has helped me rethink a little and try again :) and I agree with Max's comment "More tutorials regarding site modeling are always welcome..."
you really saved my life, because there are no guides on this topic in russian. Thanks God I`m fluent in english enough to understand you
Fascinating, and inspirational to watch how others interact with the terrain - it's easier to come up with more interesting ways to work, if you know you're going to be able to draw it.
Love it when you do this complex tuts.. love the stairs plug in.. makes everything easier.
Cheers
Thanks - glad you liked it! :)
Dude you are phenomenal. M a great fan of yours. You always help me out of the a lot of problems. Thank you for all your videos. Keep making them. Thank youuuuuu so much
Hello! Justin. I keep coming back to this video because I am trying several of these tools like Stamp and drape. But I need to practice. I find your videos to be inspiring.🥸 Thank you.
Thanks Justin Very helpful video!!
Amazing tutorial 😍😍😍Your channel helped me a lot🤗🥳💪🏻
This is something that I was in need of 2 days ago haha! Had to go into Daniel Tal for some guidance but thank you for making this! More tutorials regarding site modeling are always welcome... very valuable for us Landscape Architecture students! Cheers
Lol - well now you know - thanks for watching! :)
This was sooo needed! Thank you Justin!
Glad you liked it!
Awesome and very helpful! Would love a video incorporating a plot plan with elevations and how to make a swimming pool fit the existing grade and how walls could be added in. Is there anyway to show a 2% slope on a patio vs it being completely level??
powerful tools and skills man
Thankyou so much!!! That was a great help!
Great tips. Soap skin for site mesh is a clever application. It seems way smootger than fighting with smoove. Perhaps Artisan or SUbD are useful here? Would love a tut on artisan. Could joint push pull reliably extrude to flat without the 1 inch margin issue?
Thank you so much for this video!!!
Coolest SketchUp video, amazing, Thanks Justin...
Glad you liked it!
TNice tutorials is video is amazing! thanks for posting.
nice one
you are the best in sketchup
Thank you for this video. Once you have the building footprint in place, how would you go about adding landscape plantings to the slope created? Also, how can you create landscape bed lines where the mulch would meet the grass on a slope like this? Thank you!!
Ahh, great tools. Nice work.
Thanks 👍
Thanks for this awesome video Justin. Quick question (as a novice in comparison), how does the stamp tool differ to extruding the building into the terrain and then using the trim command in solid tools?
Your help is appreciated bro
Thank you!
Thank you very much! You appearantly save my life. 😭
Thank you
Thank you for uploading the video.Very usefull
Thanks for watching!
Hi Justin, another great tutorial. Over the years have been using SketchUp for my workflow, I think that fitting the buildings to the terrain has given me the biggest headaches. It is so much easier now with the assortment of new plugins etc. On another topic, I am having a problem with one of my large models with the extents of the views being chopped off. I know I saw you fix this on a tutorial quite simply but I can't remember which tutorial. Can you let me know either what tutorial it was or are you able to just explain the fix for me please?
Thank you sir ❤️
How did you get the floor plan suspended above the terrain? Great video, btw!!!
Very good
Thank u very helpful toturial 👍
Thanks very much - glad you liked it!
Thanks this was absolutely perfect, actually perfect timing to
Glad it helped!
@@Thesketchupessentials Thanks it did , but im having a hard time with slanting paths after stamping
Do you know a simple way to measure the area of what it's been "excavated"???
Thank you so much brother.
Hi Justin, thanks a lot for your helpful videos! I am a landscape architect. Currently, I have a project to do in a very sharp slopping terrain in Greece! However, I have trouble doing it 3D in SketchUp. Do you give paid online Sketchup classes? Or if not, do you know anybody else, as few tutors are dealing with landscape modelling on slopping terrains.
Very helpful...thanks....😊
Thanks for watching!
You are the man
Glad you liked it!
Justin, that was extremely helpful to know that with multiple extensions this kind of process and be achieved. I know this might be out of pocket but have you ever done any tutorials on dynamic components? if so please help me to navigate to your link. My Sketchup practice has gone from intermediate level to advanced level just by watching your tutorials since last year.
None yet - I've gotten a few requests, but haven't quite gotten around to them yet
Plz do tell us how to make exploded plan in SketchUp and then set it in to Photoshop panel
Hey Justin, Quick question... I see you reverse faces a lot, but what is the reason or benefit of doing this?
By orienting your faces, the material will show up correctly if he wanted to render the results. All faces have a front and a back side and if the faces is "back" side out, the renderer would probably show them as invisible. Hopefully you found this out about two years ago, but perhaps this helps someone else ;)
Please do more videos on Terrain Modelling @Justin
Lol - did at least one today :)
Is soap skin better to use than Fredo6 terrain tools?
Can you help me ?
How did you set your division to 20 ? (10:23 ) Thx
how can you delete lines on contour before use soap skin pubble step?
Dr bluewofsofte too!
i think that this is hes best video
Glad you liked it!
any idea why when I apply Fur it come like a black grass?
Hi Justin !
That is very helpful.
I have a question. When I right click on the top blank section of SketchUp, I cannot get the roll down where all the plugins, and tools are showing. Like you just did here in this video.
Any idea why ?
Thanks,
That works differently on a Mac - not 100% sure how
You should be right clicking on the row of icons along the top of the screen, not blank space
why not put the footprint underneather the terrain and drag it up to algin wit the surface? much easier
idk why if i'm stamp like tht the contour gone, wht i need to do?

Ultimately, a design can't be finished until the building is located on it's site. Some would say you shouldn't start to design, until the site and location are selected, for custom houses. Tract house building would be different I suppose. Soon more houses will be using underground services too, like geo thermal tubing or buried utilities. All this says to me, that our Sketchup skills for site modelling should be just as good as those for building modeling.
One hurdle I can't get over, is the propensity to over draw entities in preliminary drawings. It's my contractor's instincts, telling me to get everything exactly right the first time, one time, so it's complete and ready if/when you come back to it. The stairs in the example look good especially for exterior stairs which can be steeper (less luxurious) but I would take the time to draw what will go there, with the correct rise and run according to the existing measurements. I make certain that windows and doors are exactly right in their finished frame dimensions, then install them in openings which are 1/4" larger all around. That dimension could be 3/8", easier for the installers to level the unit and foam it in place.
If the design works out and then construction drawings have to be extrapolated from it, any extra effort now will save time then, but the amount of time I spend now doing that, is too much. I envy those who can pull off a complete house design with it's floorplans and elevations and situated on a lot, in relatively short time, like a few days or something. It takes me months, of two or three hours per day. I'm sure a repeatable process will emerge and shorten production time a lot, but that's almost counter to the creative process, that goes into 'custom' houses. I'm happy with my pace, but I couldn't make a living from it.
This is only an example, dude!
The stamp tool is not compatible with sketchup pro 2020. Kindly suggest what to do
It definitely is - you need to go back and make sure you followed all the instructions...
What did you use to make the terrain?
SketchUp's Sandbox Tools
I'd use the drape tool only, not stamp
Drape tool only adds the lines to your existing terrain - if you need to change the terrain, you need stamp...
woooow
Glad you liked it!
3:19 there's a tool for that? that will cut off some hours of my project...
Is the stamp tool.
Your face is so scary in every video.. Hahahaha, good job btw!
.
I gave it some simple tasks and it can't do them, crappy plugin.
yo are you sober yet?
Always. Are you?
How have you saturated the people with some plugins that don't work. Soap Bubble, a crappy plugin that doesn't do anything.
Works great for me...
