    This channel is such a welcome change. Not just yet another review channel for 2000 USD guitars and 3000 USD tube amps, but practical, straight-forward, down-to-earth tips/hints about how I can use all my guitar gear. Keep it up, I'm sure there are a lot of people who are in the same boat. Subscribed.

That’s what I’m after… Just practical ways to become a better guitarist, even if you own basic gear (like the Taylor GS mini I play… Pretty much an entry-level acoustic, but it sounds great in all of this set up). Since Fender discontinued Fender Fuse support for V1 and V2 Mustangs, they can be had very cheap used and they are an excellent practice/recording amp as demonstrated here. I can see them phasing out tech support for an old product, but removing the Fuse Community and the preset sharing was a real jerk move.

    I was trying to record and one thing that bothers me compare to a guitar plugged straight in an recordong interface is that the sound comes out of the amp. So, I have my headphones on (connected to the computer) and I plug another set of headphones in the amp so no sound comes out of the amp speaker. Is this the best way of doing it?
    Another thing is when I record with an acoustic guitar The sound comes back in the guitar so I do the same trick but for some reason I crank my guitat volume way up, amp volume to the max and still, it barely picks up my guitar sound. That's when I put a headphone set in the amp to stop sound to come put the amp. What's the real way of doing this?

    • @SteveGuitar
      @SteveGuitar  Год назад +1

      Hey, I don’t know that I can help with your second question. I’m not sure I understand what’s going on there with the acoustic guitar. But to your first point, yes, I plug-in an extra set of headphones into the top of the amplifier’s headphone output jack, which silences the amp, and I don’t even wear those. They just kill the speaker

    GarageBand recognizes that my GTX is connected to my Mac and is set as the Input device, but I cannot hear any sound at all and recording anything is silent. I have tries changing the output from the speakers to my headphones and back, and nothing. No clue what I'm doing wrong.

    • @SteveGuitar
      @SteveGuitar  3 года назад

      I’m sorry about the troubles. When you play music into the amplifier that is connected to garageband via USB, do you see any lights or meters to indicate that it is receiving sound? If so, it should record some thing unless your input levels are down or something similar. Sometimes Everything records fine but you can’t hear it because you have the “monitor” button turned off. A great channel that I recommend is Pete Johns. He has literally hundreds of videos on this kind of stuff. Hopefully that will help!

      Tom Machete Hey Tom, so glad you like the content! And I’ve always been weaker on the technical side than I am just playing guitar, so I hope some others will chime in. But I do think headphones in general just never sound that great plugged right into an amp. That’s why the new boss Waza headphones are so hyped up, because they help the whole thing so much more 3-D and big. But I am getting a really good sound by plugging my headphones into my iPad, which is connected to my amp via USB. So maybe the iPad (or a computer) will help make the sound better overall? Hey Steve,
    Well I dug my old Mustang v2 40 watt using my Macbook Pro and USB in and Garage Band and it sounded awful(like you said it would). I remember the days of using Fuse with my GDec 3 30 and Mixcraft on my PC. Great recording setup, of course Fender went and dropped support, downloading or any remnant of Fender Fuse. I was in Guitar Center on Friday when I picked up the GTX-50 and there was a huge stack of Mustang 20 watt v2(like 20 of them). I don't know how they can sell these with a straight face when they have abandoned support on one of the coolest software's they ever came up with. Next I might try Logic Pro or I have 3 IPad Pro's that I might get the Looper software you mentioned but I would need to buy that camera adaptor. I would rather use my Macbook Pro or Mac Mini.
    Anyhow a very cool demo. Very interesting. One cool thing I did break out was the Remuda app for my Android Tablet. That thing got a lot more stable. Very nice for I think $5, what a deal

      Hi Fahri, thanks for writing, and glad the video is helpful. Can you list out all of your equipment? I run my guitar to my Mustang amp, then the usb of the amp out to a powered usb hub, then the hub to my Apple USB adapter (camera connection kit), and then that into my iPad or iPhone. But the usb hub needs to be powered, meaning… It plugs into the wall power jack did you actually get power. Without that I think I would experience the same issue you are. It could be that you are using a non-powered USB adapter that doesn’t plug into the wall and therefore the amp’s usb isn’t sending enough power to the iPad

    Hi steve ! Can this amp (fender mustang 1 v2) record the dry signal as well so i can apply amp simulation on it in case I don't like the original tone? Thx for the video

    • @SteveGuitar
      @SteveGuitar  3 года назад +1

      I’m thinking through your question. Interesting one! If by “dry“ you mean just a flat preamp with no sort of real guitar amp simulation (like a fender twin) and with no cabinet, I think the answer is maybe. Maybe, because for the mustang V2 series, they stopped supporting Fender fuse software, which lets you access that preamp. So if you have an older computer that still has fuse on it, you could do that. Otherwise the new mustang GTX series does have a basic preamp used on the acoustic guitar patches. It’s basically a very clean signal, so yes you could plug your guitar into the amp, choose the preamp setting, and then run that out to GarageBand for example, where you could apply amplifiers there. Not sure if that makes sense. Otherwise, many times, I have used a Fender twin or deluxe model on my GTX amplifier but removed all effects and gain and just gotten to a really good clean “dry” signal, and then run that into my computer. Does that help?

    • @SteveGuitar
      @SteveGuitar  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! Glad you like it. In about your question, just curious… Why do you want to run the amplifier into the scarlet? You could just run the amp USB into a laptop and then also run the scarlet into a laptop. Otherwise, does the scarlet have a USB input? You could run the USB out of the amplifier into the scarlet if so. Otherwise you might need some adapters to try to make that work. One thing that has worked for me in the past is running the headphone output jack of the amplifier and then using a 1/8 inch (3.5 mm) two 1/4 inch adapter, which basically turns a headphone output into a guitar size line that you could plug into the scarlet, but it becomes mono, not stereo. Hope that helps.

To record guitar, the USB goes into the Apple adapter, which goes into the lightning port, not the iPad headphone jack. Also, if someone doesn’t have an iPad with a 3.5 mm jack, there are other options (I have another video about using a USB audio interface for monitoring the output using headphones, or you can plug a usb sound hub into the usb powered hub).
