I have the Blackstar IDCore 100 and while it’s a perfect Home/Garage amp, I wish I would have waited now that this is out. The blackstar programing through the website is just more of something I don’t want to do!

I hear you guys big time as to the Katana. I checked out the Artist version at GC, after watching several videos, needless to say, I was very disappointed in it's rather sterile sounds, no matter what I tried to tweak out of it. Today, however, also after seeing the Fender video, and RJ's here, I went back to GC to try out the GTX100, and man, what a huge difference! The amp does what it says it can do, the first setting I tried was 65' Twin Reverb, with the 65' Spring setting, and I have to admit, it sounded powerful, rich, lush, and long lasting, like Fender reverb on a 65' Twin should. For a harder setting, I tried Uber Metal, and that is exactly the chug tone I am looking for! I think I will gamble a few C-Notes and buy this amp. Just the ability to use even the factory presets gives it a leg up on tones you can really use, as compared against other modeling amps. And on top of everything, this amp CRANKS! It's loud, powerful, and can multitask easily. I already own a 68' Custom Vibrolux Reverb, and believe me, I love it's tone and power, but the GTX100 will be a nice compliment to it. And it's always good to have a spare amp in any case. Thanks to RJ for this fine demo!

The tone and versatility of this Fender GTX 100 is amazing.
It does take a bit fiddling of all the settings to get what you want. But when you get there you will put away your tube amps.
As a certified Mustang expert I can tell you previously that with all
other models the first thing I did was swap out the speaker to turn them
into great amps. That was my only previous complaint - they put
speakers in that are a compromise to play regular music / line-in
accompaniment, and cost.
However... with the GTX 100 I can say the improved Celestion speaker they put in these are as good as it gets.
I tried other speakers, while they sounded DIFFERENT, I won't say BETTER.
I ended up putting the original back on. So save your money don't even
bother. That being said, when I first turned it on I thought it sounded
like an AM radio... it definitely needed to be broken in. Superbly
smooth & sweet when it was. And most definitely use an amp stand to
get it off the floor and pointing at you.
I actually also bought the new Katana Artist MK2.
The Katana amp does appear better built and more solid, also with an amazing new speaker.
That being said, I always went back to the GTX for more fun and better
vintage tones. The Katana only has 4 amp amp types. And each one is an
extension of the previous. Add max gain to the "clean" and that is where
the next "crunch" starts. So its basically 1 amp type, that you can
extensively modify with the App.
So ended up returning the Katana, and kept the GTX, if that says anything.
The GTX 100 does absolute great vintage tones of old Fender & British amps.
There are several modern tones also, I just never worked with them.

What speaker would you recomend for the old mustangs?
Recently got a Mustang III v1 for cheap and was surprised by how good it sounds.
Put a greenback from my tube-amp in it and while it sounded very nice it's only 25W and I put it back in the other amp after testing it with the Mustang.

I know your post is old to reply to but I also debated swapping speakers. I think the stock speaker is decent but found I can’t stand most models on this thing unless I turn off the cabinet emulation. The cab sims make every amp sound fake and digital. Turning them off makes it sound more like a real amp tho sometimes it sounds a little harsh depending on the amp model, hence why I debated swapping in a more common traditional guitar speaker. Curious if you also turn off the cab emulation for all your patches also or if you found any of them to actually sound good for you.

@@DKprojects9 That is the strangest thing I've ever heard. Cab emulation is what gives ALL digital amps their close sound to tube amps. I found it sounds like shit if set to "none". Unless you are looking for pure clean signal going through it or something, but even people sending direct to computers to record use cabinet emulation, recording would sound terrible without. I guarantee you every example used in this video has a cab setting.
I have to wonder if some other setting is off, like the master global tone setting. You can try switching the cab models, depending on the amp some work better then others. I take it to limit adjusting tube bias and SAG.
On other more expensive digital modulation amps some people pay Hundreds$$ for I.R. cab emulations.

@@TurboMountTV ya I am aware that impulse responses for many cabs are standard for floor modelers. The difference is IRs are used with FRFR speakers…those aren’t anything like regular guitar amp speakers which this amp uses. It’s a standard 12” celestion speaker. Cab emulation sounds bad to me with guitar speakers and so when I turn the cab to none it sounds the closest to a real amp. Try it out yourself once both clean and distorted it might surprise you. It’s totally normal and standard for helix/pod go users to run those units through real amps and when they do they definitely turn off the cab IRs. Every manual I’ve read for a modeler hooked up to a real amp using the 4 cable method mentions to turn off cab simulation since you are using the amps real guitar speaker in cabinet.

@@DKprojects9 Your first post stated "debated" swapping speakers, not that you did. Yes of course if you are running through a swapped out real guitar speaker then turn of cab modeling. Else you're doubling up playing cabinet emulation through a cab, which is just muddy. Any line out use to a board - whether P.A. or recording always uses cab emulation. Every preset I've seen on the Tone App online posting board has cab emulation.
The existing GTX speaker is basically FRFR. Look at back of it. It’s a special Celestion speaker designed for a modeling amp that is used to emulate many different amp/cab tones.

Yeah ? Digital has gotten much better but I would never trust a digital amp at a good gig because they are computers and have the same glitches, like resetting your saved settings, or just not letting you load up a certain effects pedal, buttons forcing other buttons and settings to change accidently o and stuff like that.
I have had all these previous problems with all the digital amp and pedal board except the Headrush pedal board by Eleven racks so there's that.

Got this amp recently, as I'm doing a bit of recording and living room playing so the usb, headphone jack and bluetooth/direct aux in for jamming is awesome. I bought my son the Katana last year and find the GTX has more features and some better tones. The clean sounds are better IMO, and with the app it is way easier to select and create tones. The 7 stomp pedal is really where it at. Not only does it include a looper and tuner, but you can also select between 5 presets or effects in a song or a set list. The digital distortion sounds are not quite there so I connected my fave overdrive/distortion pedal and I'm impressed with those sounds now too!

How does this amp sound at low volumes? The katana has the built in watt selector which makes it very attractive to me. But I like this amp a little better.

@@geralr Sounds good. There is a volume and master volume selector, so you can still get all of the gain you want while turning down the master volume. I play at mostly quiet volumes and the sound is pretty consistent.

Had a Mustang III, then traded up for a v2 when they came out. Still have it. Hard to beat for a small, giggable combo. Consistent, reliable and with the DI outs on the back no need to mic.With the DI to FOH, the amp volume becomes your own monitor-level.
When the GT models came out, I found them to be disappointing. Way more features, just not as good sounding or rugged. These GTX versions seem to solve those issues.

I'm so happy with the V2 150 watt h head that I couldn't justify the$500 or so for the new one, plus I only paid like $150 for the fender mustang V2 150 watt head with the 4 button switch.

@Matt There have more than one firmware update for the Mustang GT. This amp came in for a lot of abuse on the internet(people love to pile on).I have the 100 watt GT, and I absolutely love it.I can adjust any parameter of any effect or preset with one hand as deep as I want to go.I also have the Mustang III v.2,the V v.2 head and 4x12 cabinet, but I always play the GT.I can get any sound I want and the whole thing is self-contained and absolutely intuitive.I’m trying to find the 200 watt stereo GT for a good price.I figured it would be easy to find considering all the internet abuse the GT got initially.Turns out not many dealers ordered the big one.You can find them but either nobody wants to ship one or it’s beat up.I’ll get one. I can just imagine what that thing sounds like in stereo.If you have a GT you don’t like, maybe you haven’t gotten all of the updates.Also there’s a great global eq in the menu that will give you a lot of fairly subtle but effective tonal variations.If you like the sound of Fender amps,you’ll love the thing! Besides, if you play a lot sitting down be aware that on the GTX the controls are on the backside of the amp. Not so hot.

Those are some great presets (tones). I especially liked the freestyle slow blues tone with the Leslie/rotary effect. Not just the tone though, that was some sweet phrasing. I'm fairly new to this channel and I subscribe to entirely too many guitar related channels so I haven't had a chance to check out more than a couple of your back catalog videos. That being said, I watched this whole video because I honestly wasn't aware that you're THIS GOOD of a player or this versatile. You have a phenomenal command of every genre you played. I love this amp and it sounds great. As a beginner, intermediate I find this amp is excellent to get so many different great sounding genres and it is so easy to use and create your own presets. Also experimenting with different pedals and sounds instead of having to buy various pedals and create your own paddle board, it is so easy to just fool around with your signal chain.
Fantastic amp.
RJ is fantastic and you don't have to try that hard to get the amazing sounds that he achieves, except you will just have to practice for 20 years if you want to sound like him.

With some tweaking in the store I quickly got the best metal sound I have ever heard from the Mustang series. I owned a mustang V v2 and I currently own a katana MkII 100. I primarily use stl tonehub, neural Dsp, Helix Native, and positive grid software going into a line 6 powercab 112 plus and run it in stereo with either an alto ts312 or the Katana’s power amp in.
That being said, I am about to head out and buy this amp because the Fender amps are unreal and I like new toys. 😊🖖

I, personally, would like to hear the story of that guitar. I’m sure you must have told it before, but every time I notice it, I’m left wondering WHY? Was it on sale? Is it sentimental? If I’m going to use a digital interface I might as well stick with AmpliTube. I can plug that into any audio interface and it’s completely portable and takes up less space. Just a considered alternative. Very cool to see the hardware can be interacted with the app!

I have the super champ X2 and the 150 watt mustang V2 head and they both enjoy the same fuse software plus there super champ X2 is a tube amp and sounds great out of the box, no messing around with settings required, it just sounds killer right away and has the ability to deep edit to get even more phenomenal tones ! They are great but super champ is just killer.

Clean sounds are good like usual on this type of stuff. Crunch and saturate sounds are muffled alas, not convinced.
You can have about the same with a cheap pedalboard like GT1 or other and an active speaker. Nothing really new in my opinion.
But very good package for the price, all in one. Bluetooth, wifi, fx, amps, etc, etc…
Yes it’s nice or not bad depending of the experience user. But for 600 bucks… about the triple of an used mustang III, 100 watts. Or you can find some good pedalboards and an active speaker, all brand new and with an expression pedal for close to that.
Useful yes, essential or revolutionary no.
The good thing about Mustang are mainly Fender amps simulations. They are good for most.

.. I have the 100w too .. I set it to Focus 2 setting .. its bright and much less boxy

The high gain presets are blah..but if you tweak them a bit and place a eq in post section and it will get brutal...also the new pedal will work on the previous gt series (which is a huge upgrade).
