I feel bad for Rotonbocker, imagine how much of a nice guy he must have been to never curse any one by bringing them into the game and to ruin his own life with such hate and to put himself through so much pain to punish himself for that.

an explination for people who didn't quite understand the ending:
Stephanie decided the only thing she had left to do was to find Rottenbacher and steal his protective item....but she took the wrong one....The Swastika armband was the real item, not the cilice. The rules of the game state that a protective item is something that causes the wearer pain (be it physical or emotional). Rottenbacher's armband caused him emotional pain because of the way other people judged him...what makes it worse is that he couldn't take it off. That's why it didn't work when Stephanie took the Cilice, it was the wrong item, and she ended up getting taken anyway...

Guys, you rottenbacher's barbed cilluc, i have an explanation. As you might have guessed, Rottenbacher wasn't a nazi, but surrounding himself in nazi propoganda was his safe guard. The cillus as it is said in the story is to be worn for punishment of sins. Rottenbacher didn't wear the cillus because he wanted to, or he willingly wore. He wore it because being a Nazi to him was a sin, and he needs to punish himself for it. Inside, he knew being a Nazi was bad, but it was the only way to live. He is still a catholic, and he needed to do that because he still follows catholic religion. If you believe this explanation is correct, please like it so others who need the answer can see this.
Yeah, that was pretty much the conclusion I and a good few others came to. I'm surprised how many people didn't catch on that the cilice wasn't to do with the game, but to repent for his sins altogether.

If you look at it from any point of view, what she did was wrong, so wrong words wouldn't do mercy, but in her shoes most people would kill at least one person. if you had the choice, sacrifice or die, i'm pretty sure you'd want to live and right now you may say 'no i would never do such things!' in the moment you'd do anything. the one i hate is Jack. He could have stopped her; at a time like that you need someone to think. clearly he wasn't any help by being a coward, then again that is the generic reaction...

To anyone who liked this pasta, or even liked the ideas behind it and found the execution a bit lacking: look into its sequel, "Alternate 21328". It takes all of this pasta's issues and fixes them, filling in plot holes and adding further context and background. It's also *way* better written.

It goes into further detail about how exactly the game works. It raises more questions for a sequel to answer, sure, but it doesn't leave unaddressed plotholes like this one did.
Are the police or authorities more involved? I can't take these seriously because the adults in the story don't take it seriously.

@@tknryr8031 there was a few years ago! There was a recording of alternate by an AMAZING voice that just fit perfectly, but it has since gotten deleted. And there was one called mass media but I cannot find it anymore!!! Ughhhh it’s so annoying!! I discovered these a few years ago but I can’t find the other 2 videos. I’m picky on voices so I can’t just pick ANY recording of alternate. I found another one that’s decent. Idk.

The Game: If you think about it, you lose, when you lose you have to attempt to make someone else lose in some way, and the most common way is saying "The Game" In some way shape or form. If you know about it you're inherently playing it, there is no winners, only repeated losers.

I've seen a LOT of your videos, but this is by far my favorite. The plot is gripping, the twists incredible. I was hooked the whole time. Good story, man, the way it was read only helped.
This was one of the first 30 videos I saved to my watch later playlist. 7 years later and I'm going through them and I just had to watch this. Would be interesting to see if anyone else is watching this video this year 🤔

The more thought I put into this, the more depressed I become. Think about it. It's very unlikely Rottenbacher was a bad guy, or even racist. He could have been a bright, cheery, upbeat person, who loved the company of others, loved to laugh, just loved people in general. He could have been willing to do anything for anyone, just because he would have thought it would have made them happy. Rottenbacher might have been a shining example of humanity, glowing with health and overflowing with compassion and love for others. But, to save his own life, he had to wear that armband, and keep up his racist act. Can you imagine that? Having to give up your love for companionship and laughter to live in isolation, misery, hatred, and knowing that every time someone looks at you, there's hate brewing beneath their eyes. Honestly, I can't imagine a worse hell. Knowing that the people you used to love being near hated and loathed you because they thought you were a Nazi. It makes me feel horrifically sorry for him. Jesus... creepypasta is dark as hell...

How do you know when you've found your protective item? Does the zelda new item jingle play once you pick it up or something? Does it burn or hurt or you get a new text saying "congratulations. You won this round in the game?" I am slightly confused. But it was a good story and the whole time I thought she was gona curse Jack at some point.
Not sure but it has to bring you pain in some way, physical, mental, or spiritual pain
I think you're supposed to know when you choose to have this item or whatever with no positive gain from it besides surviving the game, and it is a form of torture, be it mental or physical. For Rotonbocker, the armband caused him a form of mental torture to be associated with such hate, be socially outcasted, and to cope, he had the cilice, to help him repent to God and shit. So like, the cilice helped mitigate some of his suffering, but at the end of the day, the amount of suffering he had to withstand was more than just the cilice, it was a torturous amount beyond that, something that will change your life and cause you suffering, possibly ruin your future. Big time items, I think, so to speak.
I haven't read any of the other sequell/prequel though so idk for sure.

Enjoyed the story as always. One this I will say to Jason (the Nazi) you could have spared your friend all this by telling them about how you found the protective item and that it doesn't have to be physical pain, just make you suffer.
And Steph (young lady who was foolish enough to play this) for goodness sakes, EBAY!!! Don't go armed robbing some one, GO ON EBAY!!!! Also ask Jason for help! He's survived years! Wow... That was the greatest story I have ever heard.
Stephanie is too unlikeable, and I really want to empathize with her, but she really isn’t giving “Jack” a reason to stick up for her sadly. I would have made her get forced into the game by one of her friends, then curse someone only after failing to find an item and in desperation for her life. In other words, we need to see that she was essentially a good person before her gradual descent into madness. There needs to be a reason why Jack’s love remains strong even as she continues this downward spiral. As it is, she seems all too willing to jump in and start cursing people right off the bat.
