    BRAND
This is the classic yellow boot that made the Timberland Company so famous.
Well-liked since their 1973 release, they reached icon status in the 90’s hip-hop community and now you can find them from the feet of rich hipsters to construction workers to rappers and everyone in between.
    ** FULL REVIEW + PHOTOS HERE: stridewise.com... **
    FIRST GLANCE
This is the classic 6” wheat nubuck waterproof boot - the one you picture when you hear “Timberlands.” They’ve got a Gripstick rubber lug outsole, Taslan nylon laces, and PrimaLoft insulation, which accounts for most of the two pound weight. Overall, they’re pretty bulky and relatively versatile.
    LEATHER
These Tims are made from waterproof wheat nubuck. Nubuck is a kind of top-grain leather that’s been sanded to give a slight nap to the protein fibers. It’s similar to suede, but heartier, and it won’t develop a patina over time.
** More about the differences between nubuck and suede here: stridewise.com... **
    LEATHER CARE
The boots are already waterproof, and the processing that goes into that means that the usual leather conditioners won’t work on. The nubuck gets dirty really easily, and Timberland recommends brushing with a nylon brush to get the dirt out of the fibers and raise the nap.
If your boots get stained, you can use a pencil eraser to get rid of spots or, if they need a deeper clean, Timberland sells a proprietary water-based cleaner called “Renewbuck” that should take care of salt stains and other messes.
** Want seriously tough boots? Check out my classic Red Wing moc toes: • Review: Red Wing Moc T... **
    SOLE
The Gripstick rubber outsole is very, very sticky at first but wears off a bit over time; there’s also a rubber midsole, urethane insole, and removable foam insert. The materials won’t mold to your foot over time the way leather and cork will, but they’re comfortable out of the box. There’s also a steel shank that makes for really nice arch support.
The sole is bonwelted, which isn't crazy different to regular cemented soles like you get on sneakers. Since it’s not stitched like a Goodyear welt would be, it’s much more difficult to resole, which means that once you wear through these soles, you’ve basically got to replace the boot. They’re popular enough, though, that there are some cobblers that specialize in resoling Tims, if you want to look for one in your area.
    FIT & SIZING
Available in full and half sizes up to size 18, and I recommend going down a half size from your sneaker size (particularly if you’re into the open laced look that’s so popular).
Great shock absorption, easy to walk around in, nice arch support, and don’t really have a break-in period; overall, they’re comfy boots.
    PRICE
Between $160 and $180, which feels about right given the quality of the materials used and the welting on the sole.
TIMBERLAND 6” PREMIUM WATERPROOF BOOT: WORTH THE HYPE?
For their price, they’re a pretty damn good boot. They’re hard to keep clean and to resole, but they’re also waterproof, insulated, and comfortable; at the end of the day, they’re not much more expensive than a pair of sneakers but they’ll last you a hell of a lot longer.

Can confirm they're definately great boots for the average drug dealer, since I bought my timberlands I've gotten an extra 27 points in street cred, and can stay out in the cold longer, I used sell 3.5oz of coke per night now I'm getting 5 ounces. They're definately worth the investment for the local street pharmacist. The only downside is that they're a bit harder to drive in when you're doing drive by shootings.

I've had the same pair of these for almost 30 years on the original sole. I wore them to work most days for a number of years, and they've taken me all over the world. I've never done anything to maintain them other than rinse or brush off mud and dirt. They have never failed me. The lower part of the outsole finally started to come unglued recently, but that was easily fixed. Best pair of boots I've ever had.

I've had 5 pairs of these boots since I was 16. Once broken in they are incredibly comfortable and very durable. My only mistake was buying a limited edition pair with a canvas style upper. They didn't fit quite right and felt like they were a size too big.
If you get the leather version they will last years if regularly brushed and polished.

Just saw the video now, last year I bought two red 6 inch Timbs very cheap here in Brazil, Timberland has left our country and there was a sale. You will not believe how much each cost, something like 40 us dollars, just because they were red, original. Made in the Dominican Republic and I checked the serial number. Painted one pair black and something incredible happened, a lot of people stop me on the streets praising just the red pair, they are really cool. Although the yellow boot would never cost less, so I could never buy them, but red is not a common color in Brazil so I was lucky.

Got pair a pair few days ago. They are hard rock solid good looking boots.
It's not everyone cup of tea, They are hard, not so flexible boots. You have plenty of other boots way more flexible and comfy..
Still none comes close to their style, quality material and linings and stylish.
I have other pairs including the updated Radford from Timberland too way lighter.
Still when you were these, they are incredible. You have to break them in first, but the insoles are great and they eventually get softer and easier to your feet.
These are the type of boots , that you get the feeling you're wearing a classic never runs out of trend, and will always look great, being casual, or not so casual you name it
Winter proof ready too, waterproof for those rainy days or even snow due to prima loft inline .
So choosing these boots you already know what you're looking for, and you want long last pair of boots. For those who haven't tried or are re using them like me give it a try. They have improved, the insole anti fatigue is comfortable for long wearing periods.
A classic that never runs out of fashion..

Just wanted to say I just recently got my second pair of timberlands, and I got the heritage boots. They come in a few colors of full grain leather which is just easier to care for. My old tims are the basics, in a gray nubuck. I didnt want the wheat nubuck cuz I figured it has to be hard to keep clean, lol. But the basics aren't terrible if you add a decent insole.

I bought a pair of MOC toes similiar to these. After a year, I realized I hated nubuck leather. So, I cleaned the boots with Fiebing's saddle soap and massaged mink oil into the leather. I repeated the oiling process three times. Once every two or three months I reapply a light amount mink oil. Now, the boots look awesome.

You hit a lot of key points that I think were overlooked on rose anvils video. I love my timbs. I got them for $140 at saks off 5th and have been wearing them instead of sneakers for over a year. You have to make sure you get the ones made in the Dominican Republic rather than Bangladesh. I have a handful of more expensive quality heritage boots but I still like wearing my Timbs. The leather is so soft they feel like slippers. I don’t even lace them. I just tie a knot at the end of the lace to keep them from dragging on the floor. I love the fact that they are waterproof. They are definitely a great all around lifestyle boot. If you are looking for a construction boot I would look into timberland pro.

I see a lot of men wear these with slimmer jeans, they just end up stacking them on top of the boots. As far as pricing, these boots are so common that they are pretty easy to find on sale and for around $80 to $100 for a waterproof boot isn’t too bad at all. Also I know these boots get a rap, but now a days these can be worn by anyone and everyone. Tons of people from all walks of life wear them as they are overall solid boots. I know their past rep always comes up however that shouldn’t deter anyone from wearing them.

Check out/Review the Timberland Boot Company Blake Winter 8" in Bordeaux model number 4033R, featuring Horween Chromexel leather, a 270° Goodyear welt and corded waxed laces. I think this boot will be more in line with the types you normally review with a bit of a twist and a great value considering the price vs materials and construction.

Now that your reviewing cheaper boots, mind doing reviews on the ultra cheap (sub $100) like Eastland, Clarks, etc? Might be fun and it could be an exercise in educating people on what to look out for, what to avoid, etc. Plus you may find a diamond in the rough.

Get the Timberland kit that has the brush and gum eraser. Also, Lincoln Suede and leather cleaner does a really good job keeping them supple if you use it once a year and work it in with a toothbrush. The Balm Proof protector doesnt really do much other than turn them orange.

    Great video! I got two questions to ask;
    1. Will the color of the leather fade overtime?
    2. And are the Timberlands boots suitable for wide or narrow feet? If i recall, most of them were for wide feet right back then right?
Also, could you do a review on the black nubuck colorway too? I am deciding on which colorway should I get! That would be awesome :))

damieN - I’ve had mine for a few year and I haven’t noticed any fading thus far. They do run wide and big. Some suggest buying a size smaller than your usual size to get a better fit. As for the width some wear thicker socks and solves that. They’re sold in a lot of places so you can try them on in person and see what you think.

I have bought and tested several brands of boots and these are by far the best ones i ever had, for me they are the holy grail of boot, sadly nothing is perfect and i find 2 flaws to these boot, 1 the sole never gets "sticky" like never, any shinny surface + water (oil) = insta death... 2 you cant resole them, i never have had the need to resole one of my pairs and my oldest pair have 10 years, i wear them almost daily (like 300 of 365), but i have several pairs so i dunno what would be the wear if i had only one pair...

Timberland reduced their lifetime warranty to a "1 year warranty" because many people were sending back the 6" waterproof boots because they have a defect that causes rain/snow to leak in the toebox area. Due to that fact ; in my humble opinion it's a bad investment to spend $190 on boots when Timberland warranty will only cover the "waterproof" boots for 1 winter. Even in NYC it's less common to see Timbs; aside from the classic wheats. Ironically ; many clubs, bars, lounges, venues, etc. have a strict "No Timberland Boots" dress code policy at the door in New York City.

    • @Stridewise
