    Hey you probably won’t see this, but I believe the weeds you have growing in the pond are nutsedge. It’s really common in Texas and is actually edible! Just thought I’d share!

    Water hyacinth and water lettuce prefer “dirtier water”. They are excellent to clean your water but they require a lot nutrients.
    Also try to protect their roots from fish that can potentially nibble them. My water hyacinth trive happily from all the waste of my tilapias. Tilapias breed like crazy.
    I started with 8 and now they are at least 60 of them in my middle pond. And that’s already including some tilapias that I gave out to friends.

    Thanks for another look at the pond. We have one too, but am not as adventurous as you in regards to its plantings. We purchased a heater made for mini ponds. It kept the water in the forties all winter to keep our goldfish doing well. Don't know how cold it gets there, but this heater was only supposed to keep it above freezing. In a warmer climate it could do the trick for your white clouds.

    But you should know that floating plants make shadows and plants at the pond's bottom must grow and propagate. With shadow the plants cannot grow correctly.
    Anyway, you should remove old and rotten leaves.
    Also, the plastic duck must be removed too in order to let the sunlight reach the submerged plants.

    • @Yoshi278
      @Yoshi278 5 лет назад

      All fish in a outdoor pond system should be able to handle extreme cold and hot climates in your country otherwise they should be maintained in a enclosed system indoors unless you have some giant shed like a koi breeder or something. But shade and ice do help :P

      Minnows are very hardy in most climates, even snow and extreme heat waves. Here in central New Jersey, we get ice covered creeks with temperatures of 5 degrees farenhiet, and heat waves of 100 degrees farenheit. The creek in my woods has about 15 minnows who stay in the same 20 or 30 gallon area. Obviously all minnows are not the same, and those extreme temperatures are infrequent. They survive a lot, and if you are on the near the east coast with a winter, from New York to Tennessee, you should be okay. Always do your own research though.

    Hi, Love the pond!!!! I agree with the previous commenter regarding the Hyacynths. They are agressive. I live in s/e louisiana. The bayous fill up with them in the summer. Can't get a boat down the bayou. Mosquitoes breed in them like crazy. They are awful!!!!

    • @tabihawley6624
      @tabihawley6624 6 лет назад

      Mariah3272 Can't even own them in California because they're so aggressive. People have been known to flush them and they eventually impact entire sewage systems. Those and anacharis.

  • @LinardBraslin
    @LinardBraslin 6 лет назад

    I love the design of the pond so far. It will be really interesting to see how it progresses. I just hope the snails won't overpopulate.
    I would love if you would have chosen guppies (my fav), because they are colorful, small but noticeable fish, who breed quickly and are able to have a large population in a limited space. I think the best color fish for this setup would be blue, yellow or white.
    I don't like the idea of a second Ludwigia plant, because all the pants are going to grow and I don't want the pond to be overcrowded with them.
    If you wanted your mint plant to root quick you might want to grow it indoors for a couple of weeks in a water glass and cut off some of the bottom leaves so it wouldn't be so prone to wilting while it creates roots.
    Oh and I love how the lights look like!
