I decided to make a wildlife pond last year. I was actually able to order a 300 litre solid freestanding pond online. It was delivered within days. The bloke delivering it wondered what on earth it was. I put pebbles on the bottom & ordered over hang baskets which allowed for shallow planting. I’ve got logs stacked up on one side to allow access for frogs etc. It was so easy to do & so satisfying. It is teaming with tadpoles this year. Every garden needs a water feature.

Still going strong! The antler fern has taken over, and I still keep getting new batches of tadpoles. Only problem is the red bellied black snakes seem to be checking it out now.

Johnny, the trick is to get the feeders out there in the backyard. If you have them they will come Canada has some cold winters as well. Sometimes down to mines 25. I start putting them out now end of March beginning of April you might not get them right away but they will come keep those feeders out there the magic recipe to get them to come is one cup sugar, 4 cups boiling, hot water Put them out in the backyard and they will come sometimes it takes a while. Good luck my friend.

What a beautiful build! Lovely tadpole habitat. The idea of moving rocks across from a nearby pond is a great one, especially to make sure there's enough food, but just a note that people should please not go further than, say a couple of gardens to get these materials. Even in the UK we have serious issues with diseases like chytrid fungus affecting frog populations and it would be really easy to spread undesirable pathogens or invasive species this way.

Also for random interest, the bug at 19:52 is a rove beetle, probably Xantholinus sp., and just after that it looks like a 7-spot ladybird, which is one of our native species (rather than the invasive and super common harlequin ladybird). At 20:26 it's the green shield bug, Palomena prasina :)

Loved watching the family, and your little Quinn is growing so fast, isn't he!?! Your pond video reminded me that I left a kiddie pool up all winter outside in my back yard, and now I've gotta go check and see if any frogs laid eggs in it too! It's still darn cold here in northern NY though. But I think its hilarious that they laid eggs in your bucket of water! LOL! I'll be thrilled if I find any in the kiddie pool out back! Tadpoles are just the coolest!

That's a cute little pond. I love my container pond, but I used a 300 gallon stock tank. I did heat it over the winter to keep it at tropical temps.

Hi matt, could you do a vid on algae control in outdoor ponds? All the ponds ive seen just have green water.
Also maybe a vid on possible fish for ponds of a similar size to this one

Absolutely, I plan to cover as many topics as I can on ponds throughout the spring and summer.

Yes please! All my tubs get hair algae in the summer, even when they are out of the sun and have floating plants in them.😬

Doing great here. Just prepared my buldak cheese noodles in a sort of Italian-Korean fusion way with actual grated Parmesan on top and the radio is playing Europapa again! (I'm so glad my country is finally sending something actually nuts to the Eurovision Songfestival this time!)
And my baby bandit corys are growing so well! I might actually have six fry in there!😁

I have a couple small ponds, contained eco-systems. We should all give it a try. Have you ever considered mosquito minnows? Also so true regarding allowed plants, check with your location as I've know nurseries to sell plants that are not safe for the environment.

Your garden is so nice. I have a pond myself - dig it last year. Takes every garden to next level. First frog eggs are there already - cant wait to see them start moving. 😊
