i know that the double f***ing rainbow riff didn't really start out as any special theme, it only really became that when it became part of "you're gonna need a bigger ukulele", and then later got referenced in " the face of the deep", but let's be honest everyone kinda considers it the "final boss leitmotif kinda thing" at this point
so you cannot imagine how happy i am that it kinda got retconned into the providence fight as well, but without just straightup replacing the original song, which i wouldn't have wanted
but the buildup with what i consider the "risk of rain" leitmotif (the 4 notes that appear all over coalescence and various other tracks), also the sound textures basically uniting your old style from ror1 with the newer stuff from survivors of the void, up until that big reveal
this song has it all

It wasn't written as a "special" theme but it was my favourite theme ever since 2013, so it's not an accident that I revisit it constantly. Who knows, maybe we'll hear it again in the future...

Honestly, I like contrast between brothers' themes
Providence's sounds like: "I won't give up just yet."
And Mithrix's is like: "GET THE FUCK OUTTA MY MOON!"
Provi uses this leitmotif to go out on a HELL of a swing while mithrix just immediately tells you that actually? he just REALLY fucking hates you

@@Pyrax99 In mithrix's case, the dude was chilling on the moon when a vermin suddenly invades, destroys his armies of chimeras and literally pushes mithrix to the point of having to steal your items to do a final stand (Extra spicy when you also bring the gold boi). So yeah, I would be insanely pissed if a supposed lowly vermin is able to do this to you.

its always been implied through lore that providence is the stronger of the two brothers, even as Mithrix could design and build things that providence could not open, it was clear he had to put a large amount of effort into providing his followers with a moment hole, a gate that providence could not break, however, through the lunar items and all other attempts Mithrix made to take over the planet, Providence always found a way to halt that progress.
You finally did it Chris, a decade of saving the children from your song titles; now you can finally rest

I love how between "Double Fucking Rainbow", "You're Gonna Need a Bigger Ukulele", "The Face of the Deep" and now THIS, this has been solidified as the official "OH SHIT" theme of the series, which is made even more poignant by the usage of the game's main theme leitmotif in this particular composition. The rain has indeed returned, and oh, how it thunders!

When the green lasers show up and you see "You thought THAT was enough to kill ME?!" and you hear this, it's like a top 3 ror moment. the "OHSHITOHSHIT" that this motif brought so many times is back
Played the remaster a few months after beating the original, and this part came out of absolutely nowhere, they somehow made the fight even cooler

OH MY GOD. I was caught so off guard by the new phase. I was so relieved to have finally beaten Providence and then the music begins to drum back up and... BWOOOOOOOOM FIRE EVERYWHERE! I LOVE IT! Your music helps bring even more life to the beautifully animated sprites. It is truly an exquisite combination, thank you Chris for the stunning iconic soundtracks of these games

I was thinking "why isn't he calling me monster?" and then I got my answer...
As Engineer, deploying his Prototype Laser Turret at exactly 1:31 is the perfect timing for it to blast Providence as the music drops. I have become well practiced in the timing.
Inarguably the most remarkable motif in the entire trilogy so far.
From Double Freaking Rainbow, to You're Gonna Need a Bigger Ukulele, then to The Face of the Deep, now finishing with tremendous precipitation into this absolute master of a piece.
Can't wait for even more versions of this legendary feeling that it gives to me.

Just saving this to my favorites playlist in advance. I loved the small samples of this track that we've heard, so getting to hear the full version will be just another highlight of my day.
Edit: Damn that was cool. Hearing it in game was incredible, it really made me feel like a badass.

Been listening to your music since ror dropped in 2013, this is my new favorite. When I first heard it I literally said "OH SHIT" out loud. Your music has always conveyed a lot of emotion and certainly made the game way more impactful for me. Love your work!

Ever since I first heard this in the original RoRR trailer, I have been eagerly awaiting its official release. And now since that day has come, I am beyond ecstatic.

The ONLY negative thing about this theme, through all of the iterations, has been that by the time it gets to the hype parts either the boss is already dead or I am, and there is literally no in between with this game lmao.

But it starts at the best part for the fourth phase?
In my experience if you go to him first loop fourth phase is more than enough to hear the whole theme
This theme singlehandedly skyrocketed Providence as one of my favorite final bosses of all time. The fight itself was action packed, and was really fun, but then I get jump scared by that unexpected final phase, and this banger starts playing in the background. I love how this letimotif keeps reappearing, and how it connects everything together. Providence, Mithrix, and even Voiding all share this motif somewhere in there tracks, and it's beautiful how subtle, yet also obvious it is to connect them together
And I saw somewhere that Chris said we may see the theme again, and I bet you it'll be in the theme for the False Son in SotS...

Interesting to note that the magma worm on the cover art for ROR returns is actually upside down (the eye is on the bottom of the magma worms jaw) also Chris, your music is actually chillingly amazing. Since risk of rain the first, to now, every time you release music my jaw drops!! Keep up the amazing work! Can't wait for ror2 DLC!!!

This is actually some of the best music I’ve heard in my life. I discovered the ROR and DEADBOLT games because I came across the music and loved it so much that I decided to buy the games (usually it’s the other way around) to hear the music in its intended setting.
You have been by far my favorite composer ever, I genuinely cried while listening to Coalescence after all these years.

I was so, so happy when I saw this released. More music from Chris is making me gleee. RoR2 was my favourite game soundtrack of the decade rivaled maybe only by Hunt Showdowns music. Eagerly waiting for more tracks.

This piece, much like Providence himself, moves with more purpose than any song that uses the Double Fucking Rainbow leitmotif. Then, it withdraws a bit, showing how enigmatic of a character Providence is to the Survivor at this point in time. He gets them wondering: who is this guy? Why was he so hellbent on bringing down the Contact Light? He moves with more purpose, but what is his purpose? And most of all, why does the Survivor feel like they've made a terrible mistake?...
...Why did they have a teleporter from Petrichor V on the ship?
Why did they??? I really want to know the lore reason, man....

I absolutely love those notes where it bends up or down to like 1/4 step. Don't know if that was actually the case but I just love that effect. It feels wild and primal.

ngl, this was fantastic for the new 4th phase, i absolutely love how it has a similar contrast to the other major boss songs in the series and honestly fits well with how dramatic it feels lol
My first time playing Risk of Rain one in any capacity was with this game, and the OST really took me by surprise. I knew to expect good things since I played RoR2 as well, but the moment around 1:40 really brought the tension during the final boss to 11. Very well done!

Personally, I like the original Double F-ing Rainbow more. It just has a more gritty feel to it than this one, and the slower BPM made it feel very heavy and tense. This one is almost too happy in comparison. Not saying it's bad by any means, just saying I prefer the original.

Hey Chris, wanted to say great job of amplifying the fear factor I got by ten with this amazing score! It really is the “oh shi-“ theme, and hope it continues.
Also I just realized an insane possibility. I know you might not be the guy to make this happen, but what if RORR and Terraria had a crossover update! Providence along with your music would fit so well in terraria’s world, and I’m sure there is an item or two that could be added that came from terraria. Idrk, just sounded like a cool idea, it’d be so cool if that were to happen.

How does it feel to go back and 'Remaster' your own tracks?
It was fun. Got to fix some stuff that always bugged me. It was kinda serendipitous really because in the past couple of years the technology allowed for some very surgical manipulation of full mixes so I didn't have to go back to the original sessions, which would have been pretty much impossible.
