    personally, I think the thing RoRR did really well is with multiplayer, in the 2 previous game if one of the multiple player dies, that player basically left to be emotional support for the rest of the player, but in RoRR when you die you become this tiny drone that can shoot enemies(and grab item with other's help), heck if you fancy you can also use the drone scrapping machine when in that state

    • @FreddoFilms
      @FreddoFilms  7 месяцев назад +2

      yeah it's a great feature, means you can at least do something if you die

    • @FrazzleFlib
      @FrazzleFlib 5 месяцев назад +1

      completely disagree tbh, yes you get to be a funny drone, but the biggest part of the problem you describe in RoR2 is that when one person dies (mostly at the start of a stage), they often become extremely underpowered for the rest of the whole RUN and are emotional support for the duration. this problem is even worse in RoRR because of the way loot spawns.
      with 2 people, say one person goes right and one goes left, if the loot spawns in a certain way then one person gets 2/3 of the loot and the other gets 1/3. now this entire problem exists potentially even if nobody dies. so many runs with my friend in RoRR just ended up with one of us getting unlucky and getting half as many items as the other player. i know theres a setting for it, but that doesnt help when another person DOES die, and with the next to zero item agency, the problem snowballs even harder.
      and thats not to mention the fact that RoR multiplayer overall is immensely fundamentally flawed in that the winning strategy is at complete odds with the fun one. optimally, you feed all items to one person because its far better with how items in RoR work, synergising both mechanically and mathematically to be stronger than the sum of their parts. so multiplayer ends up being this tug of war between "well we want to win of course and x person is strongest so they should have this item" and "well one person having 2/3 of our items isnt fair". its a fun game multiplayer, dont get me wrong, but it baffles me how its such a focus of its marketing when the games design is at such odds with involving more than one player

      @FrazzleFlib 2nd paragraph
      This totally doesn't apply to everybody but since I don't split up when playing with friends, we share items evenly based on what each item would be better for.
      Try it sometime it works pretty well

    9:44 A captain and a pilot are not the same thing especially on large ships like the one in the game, pilot is probably a completely different person from the captain especially sense we see pilot running to the escape pods in the intro

    Acrid's bubble trial taught me bouncing on your bubble will deal more damage to nearby enemies while also bouncing to avoid shots. Pretty gimmicky but works surprisingly well

    I have a fair bit to say about this as I hold quite a different opinion than yours. I do not disagree with the fact that you possess more agency with your run in ROR2, although by what was talked about in the video, and excuse me if I'm wrong, the biggest issue you have with this is that it makes the game feel too easy. The first thing I want to mention is the fact that, if you're not aware, there is an alternate game mode called Eclipse to increase the challenge level of the game, as I saw you were playing on rainstorm and drizzle for the footage you put into the video. I personally really enjoy this as it lets you have that agency to build different runs, (also to touch on the bit about how you can just go towards "the best builds" I find that you still have switch up what you do and what build you can realistically go for depending on your RNG ex; if you don't get bands on bandit but get a shatterspleen, you may feel inclined to forego a one-shot bandit build for more of a bleed-stacking proc shatterspleen build) and what it really comes down to is if you enjoy this almost deck-building playstyle. I'm mainly making this post in the off-chance that your critique about ROR2 was more based off of you catering towards one or two builds and the game being too easy, but I suppose it's just as probable that you just don't enjoy the deckbuilding, working around the games RNG playstyle. (because with half the god-damn green items being dogshit you're kinda forced to) Overall I really did enjoy the rest of the video about RORR, as I agree with almost all that was said with me having just over 100 hours in it myself; but I will admit I was taken aback by your opinion on ROR2. (although I totally agree that Lunar Items make the game too easy, I personally stay away from them as it makes the game more fun for me)

      @@FreddoFilms i mean its kinda outlandish, but it would be funny if the reason pilot has prosthetic legs is because he was cut in half, dunno how he would get to the medical bay though considering we have the UES contact light layout

    What I really like is they gave you a choice to play updated, or not. You could still play Risk.Of rain returns , just like risk of a rain. Do you want to have to track down every enemy still? Go ahead. Like I wouldn't have like the mouse control, But it's completely optional if you use it or don't

    15:30 "considering that cheating is common practice, this gives players a lot of leeway and a big advantage"
    people get an op advantage when they cheat? thats crazy.
    to me, when a roguelike is free of item agency, it is one that relies far, far too heavily on luck. because thats what it is in RoRR, blind luck, how strong your run is. no game knowledge involved whatsoever. when a 5 hour player and a 500 hour player have the exact same run on the same seed, thats the hallmark of a flawed roguelike imo. because that means the game is a glorified slot machine with next to zero strategy involved. im not saying RoRR is a bad game, but this is 100% the biggest flaw of the game and the reason i prefer 2. like, why is being able to "consistently win the game" a bad thing? are you saying that there SHOULD be runs where the hand youre dealt is so, so bad, that not even the best player can make anything from it? also im guessing youre playing Rainstorm for recording purposes, im gonna hopefully assume youre not saying the games too easy before even bothering to turn up the difficulty lmao
    That said, yeah, lunar items are still OP. agree on that.
    Making the game harder by making game knowledge irrelevant and discouraging learning is very, very boring and an awful way of making the game harder imo. i guess some people prefer having a game with extremely surface level strategy to turn your brain off to which is fair, but thats not why i play roguelikes at all. i mean its not even like the item agency RoR2 offers is elite level strategy or anything obviously, but when im having the exact same run i wouldve had playing the game for the first time it feels like my knowledge and experience as a player is really, really undervalued and kind of useless.
    its probably because i got into roguelikes via Isaac which offers way, WAY more agency of how your run goes than any other roguelike by a mile. pretty much every aspect of the game can be twisted and manipulated with the right game knowledge to the players advantage and i adore that. very simple tricks to complex and interesting game breaks. so when a roguelike has literally none of that i kind of switch off. Printers and scrappers offer a really interesting risk/reward mechanic that perfectly suits the stacking items RoR has and theyre a brilliant and clever mechanic imo.
    anyway, good video, good game, i just really didnt agree with this part and wanted to share this criticism i feel like i dont see enough

    • @FreddoFilms
      @FreddoFilms  5 месяцев назад

      I disagree, I feel like you can still win in RoRR even with abysmal luck, it's just a lot harder.
      take use items for example - a lot of people discredit most of them but even the 'bad' ones can be played around and used for good (like the spooky lantern)
      "are you saying that there SHOULD be runs where the hand youre dealt is so, so bad, that not even the best player can make anything from it?"
      not so bad that winning is impossible, but bad enough that it's a challenge and you can't just run to the shop and buy 999 gestures of the drowned

    • @FrazzleFlib
      @FrazzleFlib 5 месяцев назад

      yes, if you abuse the Bazaar as hard as possible and cheat in coins and buy a spinel tonic and 12 gestures you can win every run. you can also, however, opt to not do that.
      lunar items are OP and the Bazaar is a kinda poorly realised concept with better potential. but judging RoR2's item agency based on the Bazaar alone isnt fair, since the Bazaar is absolutely an outlier in how unbalanced it is. but if you dont cheat in coins you can only get a guarunteed win out of it every ~50 or so runs tbh. not a good way of balancing it, granted.
      but if you just play on a harder difficulty (you didnt even mention Eclispe) and opt to not reroll at the Bazaar more than once per run as i do or even not use it at all as some like to do, then the problem is completely solved. you shouldnt have to do that of course, but once you realise what exactly is unbalanced you can choose how much you interact with lunars, because the game never forces you into using the Bazaar at all. if you feel like they ruin the games balance, dont use them! easy.
