    Pure talent. Singing as bassist...not flipping easy. Singing as lead guitar... not easy. Singing drummer... not easy. 3 musicians making a BIG sound.

    the nod to Norwegian Wood at the end is absolutely PRICELESS! these guys are IT! i could listen to Kings X and Grand Funk Railroad for the rest of my life and be happy. The power of the performance is just beyond anything else out there.

    Even more amazing is that this performance was in front of NO ONE!!!!! It was on Dennis Miller's talk show in 92 during the LA riots, so there was no audience... Still gives me chills everytime I see it..

    Commercial music now, sounds unbelievably dumbed down for mass consumption. It's doing a major diservice to actual real music listener's. Great artists are over looked in mass media, for quick poppy assembly line kid acts. Kings X, is a masterpiece playing band. Every song, just blows you away. Wake up music industry. There is no substitute for greatness. I will always go to underground music, before I go out and spend my hard earned money, on a mediocre Boy band. Bring back intelligent rock. Listener's educate yourselves. It's worth the little ambition it takes, to surround yourself with artists, that actually are impassioned by the wonderful craft of playing great music. Kings X, is a great place to start. Thank you for posting this excellent performance.

    Just one of the BEST songs ever. Love is holding it all together and His Name is Jesus.
    Colossians1:15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

    I wasn't there but I heard about it...back around '94 or '95 Kings X was opening for Motley Crue at a county fair here in WI. Kings X came out and absolutely rocked the house. They left, and over half of the fans went with them. When a majority of the fans are there for an opening act only, you know you are doing something right. Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple said it best-"I would not want to follow Kings X on stage, because they are that good."

    This, in my opinion, is the greatest musical performance ever by a band on a TV show. I've watched it 100's of times and every time I get goosebumps 5 or 6 times at different parts. The thing to me that is overlooked is the feeling they put into their music. They are kind of considered "prog" but to me they are so much bluesier than the typical prog band. Long live the X!

    I remember when everyone was trying to figure out Ty's tone and where it came from. I remember when it finally came out it was an old Gibson amp. People went crazy looking for them and prices went berzerk for quite a while. That Strat Elite was also a big part. But its Ty's hands that have always been his tone. Kings X always.

    • @SaintFredrocks
      @SaintFredrocks 10 лет назад +13

      The vast majority of any artist's sound is ALWAYS in the hands. I always laugh when people go buy everything their god is playing down to the amp cover, and then a month later their god changes who they endorse, but their sound doesn't change one bit.

      Speaking about tone, I was reading a recent interview of Ty Tabor saying that he was at his best live performance whenever he used stock guitars (guitars that he didn't played before), hearing tapes of himself that were recorded from concerts. This was after Rock Garden (2006) was released. There is something about challenges being related to overcoming it.

    • @TruthSurge
      @TruthSurge 9 лет назад +2

      rbagel55 Those amps were made by this Norlin company but used Gibson and Moog parts, I think so that's prob where the "old Gibson amp" came from.

      I have arthritic hands, so I tend toward the lighter gauges, but I have found if I attack them right, more lightly, they sound great. I break the high e string too much when I am doing big bends with .008s. They always break where the ball is wrapped on. Do you have any suggestions? I am playing a Music Man JP-6 most of the time which has a 25.5 in scale if that helps.

    Norwegian Wood ...at the end. Ty is a big Beatles fan.. especially Lennon, you can hear it through out all of there vocal harmonies in almost every song they do. Recent interview I heard with dUg, he says he feels he is in a good place with their music. He can go out without alot of people bothering him, and no one pushing them in wrong directions on what they record and play. My favorite band next to Zep.. just wish I could play like Ty! King's X ROCKS!

  • @guerillaatheist

    In a perfect world these guys should be absolutely freakin' rich and a household name. By far the most talented trio of their generation and not withstanding possibly the most complete trio in the history of rock.
    Yes, I do understand that the company they keep in the trio dept is Rush, Triumph, Grand Funk, ZZ TOP etc...... Rock Gods all.......
    But King's X had it all. What most consider modern amp tone was derived from the massive guitar tone of Ty Tabor.

    I have always been a sucker for PLEIDES from Gretchen Goes to Nebraska. I saw these guys at the Roadhouse in Orangevale CA-they ripped that place to pieces. Best vocals and musicianship that I have ever heard from a "90s" era group. Why they didn't get as big as Soundgarden is a mystery to me. Maybe because they weren't from Seattle, and really didn't give a shit about fame...

    man i wish it was the late 60's/early 70's again. They would be on top of the charts. Music is totally destroyed by the record companies and they only put out one type of music at a time. Back in the day you had every kind of music on the radio all on the same station. From Hendrix to the Monkees and everything in between. You have to search to find good music nowadays, not gonna find it on the radio except maybe a college station. O well, these guys rock.
