Who is listening in 2023 to Alvin Lee and ten years after as fresh today as was almost 50 years ago,man one of the all time greats with those blistering riffs and such a great band as well.We need some new people to take over for these guy’s and keep it rolling.
This guy should of been one of the first to be inducted in Hall of Fame!Folks this guy blew everybody away at Wood Stock!Even Hendricks said he was the man after concert!Page even once said Alvin Lee was the only guy he would pay to see! These music mags have no credibility! Its time to set history right and give this man his rightful due!
Absolute Geniuos !! Alvin Lee was the best & maybe the most underrated guitarist at the same time. He could be pure with his riffs, he could blast your brains out, and he could shred like no-one else; sometimes all in 1 song !! He would also do things like use the mike stand for a slide, a drumstick for a pick (no, not just to strum, but as an actual pick), and play 2 different riffs at the same time using both hands. His red guitar with the peace sign sticker was a classic that he did thousands of gigs with. Went to see him as the preview band for Marshall Tucker (I know seriously ?) so there were a lot of peeps there who did not know what they had in store. Alvin blew their doors off. After he was done, we overheard a guy near us say "I had no idea ! I thought he was gonna blow my F---ing head off !
Was lucky enough to see TYA live here in Plymouth UK....Van Dyke club...Christmas 1968....Alvin asked for any requests at the end...The crowd yelled out for " Spoonful "..and off they went again with a brilliant long version..!!...Many bands inc. Budgie Floyd Sabbath Deep Purple. ELP Groundhogs Atomic Rooster etc played the Van Dyke...before they got " Too Big "....Cat Stevens and Marc Bolan..also appeared there...!!....The Police did a big raid one night...everybody was forced to evacuate and searched outside in the street....yes really..!!...Van Dyke eventually lost his licence....in early 90s the place mysteriously burned down and was replaced by Council Flats...Gone Forever....!!!!!!!!..I can remember queuing at the door one night....a bunch of sailors were refused entry.....because their hair was too short...!!!!!!!!...Memories..!!!
I saw him two months after this performance July 29th 1978 at the Flint Atwood Stadium for $7.50 Brownsville Station in Salem Witchcraft where the warm-up bands Alvin Lee totally kicked ass he played for 2 hours I'm sure this is not the full show on this tape , the band is awesome I think Tom Compton played with Johnny Winter in the late 80s and early 90s
“I wasn't really pinching the name, it was the tenth anniversary of Ten Years After. I couldn't carry it on 'cause then it'd have to be Eleven Years Later, etc. But that really was the coming back to my roots and playing' rock 'n' roll and I've had no qualms ever since.” -Alvin Lee
Was at this concert! which was the Tenth Anniversary celebration of KSJO, the San Jose-based FM station Sammy Hager Neal Schon Eddie Money also played.
it was 10 years after, and 13 ago, I had been now transformed, from the spiders in the rafters, to the webs that tickle them so, I went about to positive vibrations spouting from that sun still burns away, looking carefully into the circles, I hope she sugars the road I stray. It was only the fuss of angels, many dark gadzooks, the wars of wings and here they come, I packed up all my hard monkeys, let the sky fall, darkly my spectre is dancing on... one of these days boy, gonna see my woman, shhh! There is a problem that I don't know that she don't know that I don't know her name. I am finding it harder to love you, too much fussing with too many to blame. I wonder so I wander, yet 1,000,000 miles beneath my brain, I find it is without any mayhem there, and no balance just the same. I can see the order of chaos, not so much a loss as having no need of any direction forth. Forth is just fine. Where as I'd love to change the world, the only changes I must make are truly mine. I was in the oceanic desert of lost angels, eating sushi off a naked tush, when I tasted me some raw tail, made my senses gush. I am blue Zeus amused, here in the land of the charred gardens and the stars been used. Tainted though and stained they are, the engines still can roar. Much as she loves my totem pole and wholesome mounts- s'what's under the hood that counts. So I dare a glare and there I see, a stoned Medusa rocking me!!! Rock on... ~RaVen~
All we got in late 70s from "FM" radio was Love to change the world and once in a while Jim mygoodnessed would play going home live from Woodstock and that was it from TYA n Alvin. Just happened to clock on the other show from winterland before this one and have not listened to anything else but TYA n Alvin Lee. I swear it's change my life man! Alvin Lee puts just about every other lead guitar player to shame . He is the baddest mo fo of the m all. Dig his voice too! Check out live from Fillmore East in 70 I think it is. Awesome!!
Ten years later than what, ten years after? So it's ten years later after ten years after, but ten years before ten years sooner, and ten years until ten more years after, which is sooner than ten more years after. I'll figure it out after, sooner or later! 🤷♂️
This isn't Ten Years After. It's Alvin Lee with his solo band. The video's title is incorrect. This performance rocks, but it's not Ten Years After. The original band broke up in 1975, and Alvin went solo.
In 1973, Alvin sat in on the Jerry Lee Lewis double-album entitled........"The Session recorded in London with Great Artist." Besides Alvin Lee, others that played with Jerry Lee Lewis on the album were Albert Lee, Peter Frampton, and Rory Gallagher. Also in 1973, after having left Ten Years After, Alvin recorded his first solo album "On The Road To Freedom", a much acclaimed album that was at the forefront of country rock. Guest on that album include George Harrison, Steve Winwood, Ronnie Wood, & Mick Fleetwood.
@@GBeret83 You forgot Mylon Lefevre, the other guy on the On The Road To Freedom album, who grew up singing gospel in his family, wrote Without Him, then got into rock and roll. Came back to the States and got clean and is in Christian ministry.

I’ve been listening to TYA for forty-plus years and happens to be one of my favorite guitarists

Hey Joe is one of the best versions I've heard. He will be remembered more than 10 Years After was.
A Great Band.
One of my biggest regrets in life is that I didn’t take the time to go see Alvin Lee in concert.
Ten Years After, Miami Jai-alai, 1970 (or 1971) the best live performance by a band I ever saw.

well, they couldn’t keep the band going more than one year or they would’ve had to change it eleven years after and so on, according to Alvin.
tom compton great drummer
My goodness...that "new" song Ain't Nothing Shakin is a guitar/drum fest!
What happened to Leo Lyons and Chick Churchill? Anyone know why they aren't in this?
