A6600 is the top range of Sony apsc. It’s not cheap, not light. The target market is for those who already have owned many apsc lenses to have longer life battery apsc camera. Otherwise, I would recommend a7iii or new a7c. The new a7c could have very close weight or size to a6600.

I have to give it to you; you delivered a fantastic review of Sony’s A6600, & managed to capture some great footage & shots, given the circumstances. Wonderful video, very informative, & such a pleasant character.
The lack of UHS-II really doesn't help with clearing the buffer as well. They should've added 4K UHD 60fps even if it came with a 1.2 or 1.3x crop and 20mins limit. Overall A6600 is great a solid APS-C camera
Yeah... no UHS-II is an interesting move. Heck, I would take 4k/60 with a 10 minute limit - just for broll. This is a solid camera for sure - is it $500 more solid than the a6400 🤔
I like Sony a6xxx body design most than what the camera can do. It’s sleek with a minimalist touch. No protruding viewfinder head on the top plate. The a6600 design plus factor is that it no longer has a built in flash and the more it is sturdier. It’s a design mark for pro cameras. Also, the larger battery it has now and it’s bigger grip effect distanced itself from the other a6xxx models. I use the a6600 as my get up and go camera along with my Nikon system.
Good stuff. Being a birder and landscape guy, I normally find street "uninteresting" at best, but review aside, I really liked your images. Who knew! Well done
Thanks so much, again, for this video (I rewatched it today). I have now had the Sony A6600 for almost one year. I love the image quality I get for still photography. The camera is small for what it does and perfect for us travelers. My two issues: menu system is obtuse and IBIS is among the worst for those cameras considered for videography. Still, IBIS is fine for me when shooting stills and I'll use the weebill s when I travel. Again, I love this camera and am committed to the Sony body style.
@@TechGearTalk no problem at all. I'm still gonna keep using the a5100 with the 18-105 f4.0 G for the overhead. It heats up and shuts down after about 15 mins... but I usually don't need more time than that anyway. It would be REALLY nice if Sony showed a little love to the a5000 series this year too.
@@TechGearTalk I just look at the price do between the two and the a5100 body is only $150 more than he a5100 w/kit lens. Ugh! Sony has truly mastered how to piss off the customers. Lol! There's definitely no need for that many cameras in their lineup. Especially with such incremental differences.
Pictures Look amazing. Obviously the auto focus is amazing. But with crappy stabilization. For video, Cant justify buying this camera. So many other options out there. Thanks, your reviews are always top notch
Thanks so much. Watch it again, the stabilization is actually quite good when I wasn't holding it like a turkey. Watch the clip immediately after then one of me walking with it, where I pan back and forth. That's all handheld. I'll do more vlogging shots to get a better sense.
@@TechGearTalk I did not use the mic I did not have a lot of time to video,I needed a long strap so the camera could hang instead of being around my neck I did get some and I need more practice. but I loved the 50mm
I love this!!! What I care about is the behind the scenes of HOW they got to that point. Teach me something, I want to learn. thank you for sharing this :D I can't wait for more (: this is one of the options I'm considering after leaving my SL2. the others are the m6 or the rp (: or Eos R or 90d, I love cameras! but this would be great for vlogs for me because of ibis and bigger battery thats what I really like in a vlog camera
You said you wanted a button to track, I think you can choose Tracking in the Focus-Area settings (the lowest option I think). It then should track what is on your focusing point when halfpressing the shutter-button. Hope this helps and is true since I don't have my 6600 here to test it. Nice video keep it up!
Thanks for the info and the kind words Benjamin! I tested it. It works when you're shooting photos, but now what you're shooting video (the last option is grayed out and is "not available in manual mode"). Thank you again!
@@TechGearTalk I think all of us over 40 make that reference at least once a year! Lol. Thank you for the great reviews! I just Subscribed and am waiting for a Sony A7S III review when it comes out!
@@TechGearTalk Nothing too recent. My last major camera purchase was about 12 years ago and back then I spent about $3k. I want to invest in something that will be future-proof for a good deal of time. I don’t mind investing the money (maybe $3500) if it’s going to be at the top of the charts for the next 5 years or so. But if it turns out to not be truly amazing then I might go with the Sony a6400. I just read this article today which has me a little concerned. It might just be speculation but you never know! petapixel.com/2020/02/19/sony-axes-mirrorless-camera-features-due-to-parts-shortage-report/
@@TechGearTalk I always recommend your channel for the reviews and comparations of cameras! I buy a sony a6400 like 2 weeks ago, for like 800 USD here in Argentina thanks to a discount, usually it's more expensive here, like 1200 usd, I was just really lucky!! Anyway, thanks for all your vids man, very informative and good paced stuff!!
Another great review. You know it's killing me about this? I like the look of the video with you just sitting indoors in that beautiful building speaking extemporaneously more than your studio setup. Not trying to be mean-spirited or anything...just looked so good. 👍 . Cool to see your personality freed up a bit. ..."freaking me oooouuuuttt." 😁
Thank you for the honest feedback. I really appreciate you taking the time, it's helpful to know what resonates. I definitely plan of doing more of these.
I really think you should go back to this camera as a tutorial for settings. For selfish reasons of course. I recently received this camera and i really trusted your Canon M50 markii settings and actually purchased it. But the learning curve with this one needs more than 9 minutes or so.
I just ordered 6600 with kit 18-135 ( I believe that it is a little bit better than the Cannon 18-135 Nano.) and additional Sony E 50mm f1.8 OOS with my budget. I like night city photography, but I am not PRO so I hope this camera will give me what I am expecting from the autofocus. Probably I will buy some better lens for wide angle nature photos.
You have a good eye for composing shots. A little disappointed that the crux of the review is about the battery of the A6600. While that and IBIS are the advantages of the camera over others in its series I’d like to see more information about how you set it up, use it, features other than autofocus (a given advantage for Sony cameras) and output compared to other brands.
Appreciate the feedback and the kind words. I will publish an actual review soon (this was just a day out with the camera) and will cover more aspects. I will also need to do a dedicated setup video. Thank you for the suggestions and for joining the community 🙏

Low light and dynamic range comparison please a6400 vs a6600 vs a6500 and a6300 looks like older models low light performance is much better to me, am I right?
Wow! Those are amazing crisp photos! Love your channel! Wish the A6600 was a tad cheaper though. What features would you like to see in the next iteration?
Thank you so much for the kind words. In the next iteration, I would like to see a second dial. no blackout when using an external monitor and shooting 4k, and maybe the af tracking activation functionality I mentioned for video.
Hello! Was just curious on which lens you were using on the a6400? Been looking into it a lot recently so these videos have been really helpful! Thanks :)
Thank you. Wow, great question! Here are my thoughts about first lenses: ruclips.net/video/z-x-d-K9Jfw/видео.html After watching that and taking those points into consideration, if you knew 16 and 30 do what you need, they are great lenses! Hope this was helpful.
Great video for day one, looking forward to the incoming A6600 footage (and review). As I just pulled the trigger on an A6600, I am hunting for camera setting tips, especially for videos. I think I'll also need to pick up a couple of spare batteries (not the original ones since they are quite expensive), since I am shooting most of the day when out there, to catch any fish bite on camera. But this A6600 will also be used for some artistic sh*t line intros, promos and other videos. Thanks for today's video, it was awesome!
Thanks for watching, glad you liked it! You can get third-party batteries and you can also charge the camera with a power bank so you can use that all day.
Nice overview & relaxing-ly done. I - er - still wonder if the LCD on this is better than the previous 6000-series cameras, which had a problem in sunlight. Hope your detailed review covers that. I agree, photo subjects in review vids aren't important, but it's nice to see some imaginative and creative ones sprinkled in there. It is important to see such things as image stab, color, resolution, and even a bit of the lens performance (bokeh, flare, distortion, DOF, etc), esp. if there's a kit lens. Thanks! PS What kind of car is that? Not much has a manual shift these days.
Thank you so much for the kind words (Daniel?) I have not found an LCD that works super well in the bright sunlight (except for aftermarket options like smallhd). The car is an Audi S4 👊 - love my manual shift
@@TechGearTalk: I get that, but there were "deal-killer" complaints about the a6xxx's LDC compared to others, such as Panasonic's. That's why I'm specifically interested to see if there's a difference between the earlier models and the a6600. In other words, whether Sony addressed the problem.
Ah - got it. I didn't have deal-killer complaints about any of the a6xxx that I've used - so it's probably best to ask someone who chose not to buy another a6xxx model because of the screen.
Great review, man. You make me like cameras I don’t normally like, lol... love your work (maybe I said it before, but I don’t care) Sagi, man, you’re an amazing photographer. Loved those shots you took! And love that background (what was that, a shopping mall?)
Thanks so much Ruben! Yes, that background (which you can see in some of the shots in more detail) is called The Arcade - it has stores, restaurants on the first two floors, then a hotel the top 4-5 floors. Thank you for the feedback 🙏
First off, I absolutely love this video. But your description says you're shooting with the Sigma 35 but that's not what's on the body in the video. I LOVE the photos you shot in this video. So which lens were you using!?!?
I was using the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 with the MC-11 adapter. Unfortunately, I only have one of them, and I was also using it to shoot the video, so I had to keep switching it back and forth (super pain in the butt). Hope this helps.
@@TechGearTalk ah! The link takes you to a Sigma 35 and I was very confused on the lens on your body. Is the 18-35 what you shot that photography with? You take some amazing shots!
Oh wow!!! Thank you so much. Link updated!!! Yes, that is the lens I used the 18-35mm f/1.8 (for Canon) with the Sigma MC-11 Thank you for the kind words🙏 In the full review: ruclips.net/video/_WKmCpUBnT4/видео.html I also used the Sigma 16mm f/1.4
Good review. Did you have any battery saving mode turned on ? For 85%, was Camera on all the time or when needed ? how about reviews on low light still and video?
I did not have battery saving mode turned on. It was only one when I was shooting (although I'm not super careful about turning it off - so I'm sure it was on for longer than that). But it was definitely not one for 6-8 hours straight. I'll do some low-light tests.
Great review. I was actually looking for something exclusive for still photography using a6600, a6400 and a7iii. Glad to find this video which covered nice range of photographs using a6600. If I want to made a purchase among these three solely just for still photography(i never shoot videos), which one you would recommend and will the difference be huge assuming I will shoot with only sharp lens?
Thanks! If it were me, I would get the a6400 and invest in lenses. Although I got great pics with the a6600 ruclips.net/video/_WKmCpUBnT4/видео.html (I wouldn't go FF unless I really needed it)
@@TechGearTalk Thanks.. that was really helpful. I was also little undecided if that much extra money is justified just for ibis. I do understand ff lens are extremely pricey and it takes a toll on your wallet. So I think I can rule out a7iii. But in current market a7ii costs almost as much(with offer) as a6400. Though it dont have great af system like new apsc line up, do you think latest apscs take better still images than this older ff. Just fyi, I am interested in outdoor potraits, landscape in both day and night light.
Hi Tech Gear Talk, I’m having few questions in my mind that hope that I can have some advise from you ☺️ My main usage: 1) Casual shooting with my wife 2) Helping my friend shooting the process of making cakes and coffee with some cinematic footage 3) Planning to get Sigma 16/30mm F1.4 My questions: 1) will the 1080p 120fps slow mo footage look soft? 2) I’m going to shoot some handheld footage with sigma 16/30mm F1.4, I’m very concern whether there will be micro jittery shaking especially using 30mm lens Thank you 🙏🏻☺️☺️☺️
Hi there and good choice in lenses! 1. Not if it's in focus 2. This is super dependent on what kind of footage you'll be shooting. There is a difference between standing and holding the camera vs walking around and holding the camera. If you're standing, can you use a monopod like this one? ruclips.net/video/mXPiVDhQHEQ/видео.html if you're walking, let me know.
Got it, ok, so he's excellent at shooting handheld and he also takes multiple takes. This is something you'll just need to get good that with a lot of practice.
Great video, subscribed.. no, wait, was already subscribed and now I know why. Totally agree with you on gnarbox and I learned that quarters are still a thing. Would love tips on the Sony 10-18 and 18-135 e mounts, apature tips at different focal lengths and anything unique, if any, about using these Sony lenses on the 6600 vs other Sony prime or non Sony. Keep up the great work!
Thank you! I was using the 18-35 f/1.8. But actual focal length depends on the shot because some are handheld and some are on a tripod. Hope that helps a little.
Nice job, and great production as always. I’m wondering how you like the lens offerings for Sony’s mirrorless cropped sensor cameras, and how that influences your opinions of the bodies. I’ve also got the Sigma 18-35 (personal favorite lens) though native glass offering thoughts might help folks evaluate the gear a bit better. Thanks and keep up the informative work :)
Thanks Carl 🙏 I really like the Sony lens options (although they are expensive). I also like third party e-mount options. The challenge for me is that because I test so many cameras, I can't afford to buy lenses for each system - so I try to re-use my EF lenses when possible. What are you shooting with now?
Tech Gear Talk I’m using a 90D and looking forward to seeing whether the rumors are true about an EOS R II coming out this year. I’ve got a lot of EF glass as well. I hear you on lens throughput. Thanks for your reply-I’ve always really loved Sony’s industrial design but presently only own one PaS camera made by them. I hope to have the opportunity to try out more systems as you’ve been doing. It looks like a lot of fun!
It's always so exciting to see the "next" thing - in the meanwhile, I create with what's available. appreciate your contribution to the community. It is fun to try all the different gear, I agree (and it's a lot of work)
Because I wear headphones, I loved everything except the shutter sound effects during transitions which had me flinching, then anticipating and avoiding (couldn't continue watching). Might be due to my less than perfect hearing; maybe others don't mind. Other than that, thank you for your effort which is much appreciated.
@@TechGearTalk For me it was. I do have partial hearing loss in certain frequencies, so that might be why. But any sort of special effects (audio or visual) should not call attention to themselves unless specifically intended to do so (i.e., like the Camera Conspiracy guy and his finger camera as an example). Thanks for replying!
Hi, thanks for the super clear video! I wonder if you could give me your honest opinion. I'm considering to buy my first camera (ever) aiming for wildlife photography. I don't have a preference for mirrorless or DSLR, but the price tag has to be below the 2k. Which camera(s) would you suggest? 🙏
You're welcome Beatriz - glad you liked it. Ok, 2K is plenty of money for what you need. Just to make sure, is 2k for just the body? or body + lenses + accessories (tripod/monopod, SD cards, etc.).
@@TechGearTalk Thanks for the reply! At least camera and lenses, as the rest can be added in time. To sum up, a good compromise between price and quality, without bursting my pocket 👌
Ok, so a few options. When you say wildlife, I'm assuming you mean you're going to zoom in on animals from far away, that requires a telephoto lens (that is not normally the first lens I recommend ruclips.net/video/z-x-d-K9Jfw/видео.html , but you are mentioning a very specific use). There are a few options I can think of. First, I would go with mirrorless - it's smaller, lighter, and you can see your exposure in the actual electronic viewfinder. Next, here are a few combinations: Fuji X-T30 + XF 55-200mm lens Sony a6400 + 70-350mm (a little lower cost) or 70-300mm (top of your budget) Nikon Z50 + 50-250mm Canon M6MKII + 55-200mm All can general great images.
Great video! Just purchased a used a6500 shortly after watching this. What PP are you using to get such great, neutral skin tones if you don’t mind my asking? Particularly indoors in the restaurant and on the stairs?
@@TechGearTalk okay! Thanks! I have a budget of $2,300. I vlog and do a lot of low light shooting. What camera and lens do you recommend for that situation?

Thanks so much. Watch it again, the stabilization is actually quite good when I wasn't holding it like a turkey. Watch the clip immediately after then one of me walking with it, where I pan back and forth. That's all handheld.
I'll do more vlogging shots to get a better sense.
Love the Music in the video! made the shots stand out alot better!
Thank you! Glad it worked out well.
@@TechGearTalk love the way you filmed the cars going by to, shifting focus on each new car coming into frame look awesome!
That was handheld - I think the camera did well.
@@TechGearTalk Yeah that sequence was amazing, I'm definitely going to have to try it!
👊
Loved the video, I like it when you go out for real world test
Appreciate the feedback - will do more!
@My Nontraditional Life - lenses make a huge difference. I'm using the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8
I hope Sony gives you a cut from my a6600 purchase. Those photos & Videos are just incredible!
That would be nice 😂🤣 Thanks so much for the kind words and for being part of the community!
Another Good Video Broh💥
Thanks brother! I know you're part of the notification squad!
Nice shoes
Also, I feel like a detailed video about your data solution (including your NAS setup) would be very helpful and informative.
Thanks Zac - a few people have mentioned it so I had to go back and see where people saw my shoes - good eye!
I will definitely work in a NAS video.
Great job, our disney trip went well and looking forward to see more videos on this camera. I love this format of your video.
So glad to hear you enjoyed the trip! How did the sennheiser 400 and the new 50mm do?
Super appreciate the feedback about the format!
@@TechGearTalk I did not use the mic I did not have a lot of time to video,I needed a long strap so the camera could hang instead of being around my neck I did get some and I need more practice. but I loved the 50mm
makes sense. I use the blackrapid curve (I have an old video about it). Glad to hear it was a good experience.
Would you recommend OVERALL the Sigma 56mm 1.4 or the Sony 35mm f1.8 for the Sony A6500 ? Thank you.
Glad you love it! Thanks so much for the feedback. I'll keep creating it!
WoW!! BEST! BEST! VLOG AND TECH INFO. LOVE TO WATCH MORE👍👍👍👍👍

Thank you so much. Trying my best to make videos that would help people learn and make buying decisions.
Tech Gear Talk thank you for that brother!

Next level video bro
I'm glad you liked it!
Please do a comparison a6600 vs 90 D
Will do!
Great video, and nice to see a new or a couple of new environments.
Appreciate the feedback Thomas!
Hi, thanks for the fun video. Would you mind sharing how you treating the photos and videos post production? Thanks!
You're very welcome Paul. Ok, that's a good idea - I'll add that to my video making list.
Love the "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" reference! Lol
YES!!!! Finally someone got it! Thanks for being part of the community!
@@TechGearTalk I think all of us over 40 make that reference at least once a year! Lol. Thank you for the great reviews! I just Subscribed and am waiting for a Sony A7S III review when it comes out!
Appreciate the support Yvette 🙏
I'll definitely put one out for A7S III when it's out! What are you shooting with now?
Yeah, who knows. Better just wait and see. If you buy any new camera today for about 2k, you shouldn't need to replace it for years.
Dude wtf??? You should have waaaaaaay moooooore subs!! Love your vids!!
Thanks so much for the kind words and support 🙏j
Appreciate you spreading the word!
I’m really grateful for you taking the time to leave feedback. CONGRATS on the fantastic deal 😱🔥!!!
I love the corner flip effect. 👌🏾
Oh, cool. Thanks!
I really think you should go back to this camera as a tutorial for settings. For selfish reasons of course. I recently received this camera and i really trusted your Canon M50 markii settings and actually purchased it. But the learning curve with this one needs more than 9 minutes or so.
As expected, reliable auto focus!
Definitely!
CONGRATS!!!! It's a wonderful camera - enjoy it.
That is not my experience. I'll do some tests.
Thank you! I will be looking forward 😊🙏🏻
👊
Glad to see you did a review. I'm new to your channel and its great.
thanks Erik. This was more of a first impression. I'll do a detailed review soon.
How do you feel about the difference between the grips of a6600 and a6400? Much more comfortable with the a6600?
Very nice, liked the Ht tip!
Thanks James - glad it was helpful!
What camera is recording when you start talking at the 2:02 mark? That is sharp footage!
That is the a6400. You like the look?
What is your opinion on the rolling shutter?
Hello! Was just curious on which lens you were using on the a6400? Been looking into it a lot recently so these videos have been really helpful! Thanks :)
Hi. I was using the Sigma 18-35 with the Sigma MC-11 adapter. Hope this was helpful.
@@TechGearTalk Thank you very much!!! :)
You're very welcome
Great review. if you were new to the system, would you suggest the cheaper kit lens, more expensive g kit lens, or just start with a sigma 16 / 30?
Thank you. Wow, great question! Here are my thoughts about first lenses: ruclips.net/video/z-x-d-K9Jfw/видео.html
After watching that and taking those points into consideration, if you knew 16 and 30 do what you need, they are great lenses!
Hope this was helpful.
Amazing camera a6600!! Thanks for the couple pro Photography tips!
It's very impressive. Glad the tips were helpful!
Which camera do you like best, the a6600 or the Sony a73?

Great review, man. You make me like cameras I don’t normally like, lol... love your work (maybe I said it before, but I don’t care) Sagi, man, you’re an amazing photographer. Loved those shots you took! And love that background (what was that, a shopping mall?)
Thanks so much Ruben! Yes, that background (which you can see in some of the shots in more detail) is called The Arcade - it has stores, restaurants on the first two floors, then a hotel the top 4-5 floors. Thank you for the feedback 🙏
Tech Gear Talk always looking forward seeing your videos, man 👊
👊🏻
The IBIS is not great, nice review
That's for the feedback!
Both are really good options. Personally I love the a6400, it's the perfect combo of image quality, and affordability (from Sony).
Hi Tech Gear Talk, I’m having few questions in my mind that hope that I can have some advise from you ☺️
My main usage:
1) Casual shooting with my wife
2) Helping my friend shooting the process of making cakes and coffee with some cinematic footage
3) Planning to get Sigma 16/30mm F1.4
My questions:
1) will the 1080p 120fps slow mo footage look soft?
2) I’m going to shoot some handheld footage with sigma 16/30mm F1.4, I’m very concern whether there will be micro jittery shaking especially using 30mm lens
Thank you 🙏🏻☺️☺️☺️
Hi there and good choice in lenses!
1. Not if it's in focus
@@TechGearTalk Thanks for your advice, and I think I have some decision in mind 😃
You've just made my day !! Thank you ☺️☺️☺️
Super glad I was able to help and congrats! Thanks for supporting the channel!
How do you rate the 18-135 kit lens?
Great video, subscribed.. no, wait, was already subscribed and now I know why. Totally agree with you on gnarbox and I learned that quarters are still a thing. Would love tips on the Sony 10-18 and 18-135 e mounts, apature tips at different focal lengths and anything unique, if any, about using these Sony lenses on the 6600 vs other Sony prime or non Sony. Keep up the great work!
Appreciate you being part of this community already 🙏 Yup, maybe in 2030, Cleveland will go to an App for parking. Let me see what I can do about it.

Good field test report. 😊 Just wondering what focal length did you use for your talking head shot @ 4:36 onwards? Like the angle of view.
Thank you! I was using the 18-35 f/1.8. But actual focal length depends on the shot because some are handheld and some are on a tripod. Hope that helps a little.
@@TechGearTalk ok thanks.
Grate video man ✌🏾
Thank you so much for the kind words and support 🙏
so starting about 7:14, what camera and lens were you filming with?
Everything that is not a6600 is shot on an a6400 (studio and other talking head). Hope that helps.
Appreciate you taking the time to let me know. Was it really loud?
@@TechGearTalk For me it was. I do have partial hearing loss in certain frequencies, so that might be why. But any sort of special effects (audio or visual) should not call attention to themselves unless specifically intended to do so (i.e., like the Camera Conspiracy guy and his finger camera as an example). Thanks for replying!
Definitely appreciate the feedback, I'll drop the levels by 6dbs. Thanks again!
Next, here are a few combinations:
Fuji X-T30 + XF 55-200mm lens
Sony a6400 + 70-350mm (a little lower cost) or 70-300mm (top of your budget)
Nikon Z50 + 50-250mm
Canon M6MKII + 55-200mm
All can general great images.
Thank you so much! I will have a look on them and watch more of your videos 🙏
Glad I could help! 👍
Great video! Just purchased a used a6500 shortly after watching this. What PP are you using to get such great, neutral skin tones if you don’t mind my asking? Particularly indoors in the restaurant and on the stairs?

Hey man. What camera and lens did you use to film this video other than the a6600?
Hi. I was using the a6400 with the sigma 18-35 (and sigma mc-11 adapter)
@@TechGearTalk okay! Thanks! I have a budget of $2,300. I vlog and do a lot of low light shooting. What camera and lens do you recommend for that situation?
