    I think the reason they removed the flash is they ran out of room for it.
    The flash needs a massive capacitor. In the a6300 (and presumably the a6400 as well), that capacitor is located right beside the battery compartment.

    I just got my a6600 and I love it! A perfect companion to my a7III, no question! Yes, it was pricey, but it will last several years and provides solutions to many issues I was facing. I also picked up the 10-18mm f4 with OSS, both destine for my gimbal full time. Having IBIS, plus OSS and on a gimbal, its light, easy to use and will run all day... a solid solution for Run & Gun! The colours and Picture Profiles will match the a7III and that’s great as well.
    Packing gear for a road trip or flight is always difficult, so having a small APSC camera like this, and still being about to use my FF lenses, but gain more reach, is a bonus. And the benefit of only needing one style of battery and charger, again, saves space. This camera has active tracking AF for video, eye AF in video, it’s a solid camera that is also great to throw in a bag with the 16-35mm f4 and I can enjoy it on the street. It checked so many valuable boxes for me, I had to make the call and get it. No regrets for the extra cost.

    It was a no brainer once the price dropped. I was about to order the A6400 but really wanted the A6600 then the price dropped and the choice was easy. I ordered mine from Adorama with a ton of extra accessories including a flash for it plus a camera bag, plus a memory card plus much more. I can't wait to get it this coming Monday!!!!!

    Hey Arthur, I enjoy your reviews. Purchased a new a6600 last month, a Nice improvement over the a6500 I had been using. One thing you didn't mention is the decreased RAW buffer compared to the a6500. I believe it's 46 images for the a6600 vs. 107 for the a6500! A big difference for action/sports shooters. I can't come up with a reason for this reduction.

    Seldom mentioned: I like the placement of the SD Card in this camera. IMO, it is easier to insert and remove that the placement of the SD card on previous Sony APSC cameras.

    I think you made a great choice Arthur. I'm loving my a6400 but I'm also buying an a6600 too with the 16-55mm 2.8 and use both cameras. Video is my money maker as well as music production and coming from my old a6300 these cameras are major upgrades because of no overheating, better battery life, HLG (which is so easy to grade), no record time limit, better autofocus and continued beautiful video image quality! You have been and continue to be my APS-C resource guy. Thanks!

    Just pulled the trigger on tus camera after seeing it for $1198. Coming from an a6000, boy does the a6600 feel better built and more... professional. I wasn’t crazy excited about receiving it like I would anything “new” but after playing with it, I’m really excited to have it.

  • @richardpcrowe

    Worth noting: this camera has an ISO 50 capability which helps when shooting wide open with an f/1.4 lens. The A6xxx cameras have a fastest shutter speed of 1/4000 second which is often too slow when using the wide aperture lens, such as f/1.4, wide open for outdoor portraits. The A6600 still retains the 1/4000 shutter speed but, the ISO 50 capability allows me to shoot at 1/4000 second while getting the same exposure as 1/8000 using ISO 100...

    Enjoy your purchase! I was one of the "lucky ones" that bought the A6300 a couple of months before they released the 6500. Haven't been tempted by the models that followed; 6400, 6600 an 6100. None of them offered enough of an upgrade to warrant the ever more expensive cameras.

    Bro, you hit the nail ON THE HEAD with the way the public received the A6600. I found the exact same thing - people raved about the A6500, but weren't very excited about the A6600's features... Even despite significant improvements. I concluded that the only thing it really came down to was that people were spoiled with cutting-edge technology. They didn't necessarily think that the A6600 matched up to price and times. The overall impression which was then created towards it online was almost negative, in a way. All you need to do is step back, like you did, and see the whole picture. The A6600 is still a ridiculously good camera, and most people will not be disappointed if they choose to buy it. Cheers bro, in conjunction with a great review, you've gained another subscriber.

    I believe people don't appreciate it as much is because of what you mentioned but also Sony calls it a 'flagship' camera. When I think of a flagship camera, I think of the Canon 7D, nikon D500, fujifilm xt3 - rugged, weather sealed, dual card slots, etc. This camera just isn't professional like those.
    Don't get me wrong, it's a great camera and I'd stil pick it over those, I just wish it was a true 'flagship' camera.

    I’m a new convert to the aps-c Sony line and for me the a6400 was a good solid move. I’m using that with my Panasonic great. The a6600 was a bit steep considering I didn’t have any lenses to go with it. Picked up the sigma 16 and 30 and have been really happy with them.

  • @ALxdCr4ftPlays
    @ALxdCr4ftPlays 4 года назад +1

    Why it's better than the 6400?
    1) IBIS 5 point stabilization and more stabilization than the 6400
    2) Better battery lasts 2x longer
    What everyone complains about?
    1) rolling shutter when recording video
    2) overpriced. Sony New Zealand sells it for NZ$3,499 with kit lens.
    3) SD 1 card reader speed. Really... it's 2020. Even by 2019 standards, SD 1 is super slow.
    But if you're looking to get your first mirrorless camera like me, which performs MUCH BETTER than the iPhone Pro 11 and Samsung Galaxy S10+, and want a camera that you'll be happy with for the next 10 years, the a6600 is the best camera to go with.

    Now that they dropped the price, the camera is a good value, especially if you already have e-mount lenses. The bigger grip and eye autofocus make it a joy to use as a street camera and for travel. Add in a few Sigma primes that are made better with the included IBIS and you have a great kit for weddings and lower light events. I like the ergonomics of the grip much better than the Fuji XT3. It's perfect for run and gun. Compared to my A6300, I get more pictures in focus using the same lenses with the eye autofocus system and the touch screen for selecting subjects. The camera includes a wireless flash trigger which works great with an external flash. Overall, a nice package.

      Exactly. Weather Sealed + Orintende on proffesional market. No one ever would use this horible Flash on any 1000€ + Camera. So ppl would prefer weather sealed body and would also buy for 150€ an extra Flash.

    • @taekwon-do4life667
      @taekwon-do4life667 5 лет назад

      @Mr Tech the A6xxx Series Flash was not Sealed. So end of story here. And I also told, that the a6600 was orientented on the more proffesional market. So no one cares about this Flash Light if you pay 1000€+ for A body. The flash light in a6xxx series was always crap. Sure can be of a use, for a hobby person. But this would reather buy a6400/6500/6100 and get better Lenses.
      So Sony did everything right about the Camera.

The shoes flash is important too, cause if the built-in flash is dead, I can use external flash if I have too instead of buying a new camera. When there is a new camera, the update must be value for it new update not to remove it's feature. Thank you so much for the clarity of this A6600 vs. A6400.

      @@stefanterbekke8506Stefan - thanks for your comments. But I do very little low light shooting, and when I do noise is not much of an issue. Most of my shooting is landscapes in daylight. • @TechnoBabble
      @TechnoBabble 4 года назад

      @@stefanterbekke8506 More noise from higher MP is a horribly overblown misconception. Yes, sometimes, depending on the sensor technology and your specific shooting situation, a higher MP count can cause a little more overall noise. But in the vast majority of shooting situation the overall signal to noise ratio ends up being about the same and the higher MP sensor just retains more detail. Look at comparison images between the A7s II and the D810, until you go past ISO6400 they have basically the same noise with the D810 retaining a ton more detail. Even at 25600 sure the D810 has more noise but it also has more detail and you could sacrifice a little bit of that detail to noise reduction. Basically the same situation with modern cameras too if you look at the A7III vs A7rIV or the a6600 vs the M6 II.

    The only dealbreaker is the too old sensor -- next new 6X00 APS from Sony will probably have the new sensor (already on the market sold to other brands) immediately making both 6400 and 6600 obsolete. 6 months? So, no reason to waste money now. It's better to wait a bit.

      You're assuming a lot that Sony will quickly follow up its 6400 / 6600 release with another set of aps-c cameras. They took 3 years between the 6500 and the 6600.

    • @MichaelBabich
      @MichaelBabich 5 лет назад

      @@RageCage1701 There was 6400 and then 6100 + 6600. Quite possibly we could see 6400 replacement first hopefully during the next year. Sony needs to do something with that unacceptable and non-competitive rolling shutter. This is the only reason stopping me from buying 6400 or 6600 at this particular moment in time. The sensor is just unacceptably outdated and Sony already has the new one used in direct competitor camera.
      With renewed interest by Sony to APS-C line, relese of new E lenses for it, and aggressive new competition in the category I hope we'll see some progress faster.

    I will be getting one of these to replace one of my 6300's, but I'm going to wait for the price to drop some. It doesn't make much sense at $1,400. If it dropped below $1,000, I think that would be enough for me to pick one up.

    For me IBIS is more important than EAF on cats and dogs. Since I don't vlog and don't take selfies the flipup screen is no improvement at all. I was hoping for a better EVF placed on the top of the camera. Since Sony mean that all APS-C cameras shall have the stupid flipup screen I will never get the APS-C camera I want. I like the smaller size of APS-C lenses, the body don't need to be in rangfinder style. The better grip is nice.

    Best Review!
    4:47 - I know most reviewers have expressed unenthusiastic about the IBIS, but for me, the IBIS saves me so much time in the editing room. Without it, you might be having to fix the minor shakes in editing (with warp stabilizer). I see you filmed this video with the a6400 and a gimbal, but I can still see some shakiness.
    7:40 - I think they may have done that intentionally. By reserving this feature for the a6600 they gave said model an advantage over the others. For me, the eye-tracking in video mode was worth the couple hundred bucks.
    8:22 - The headphone jack is a big plus for me, but not at all a deal-breaker. The only reason is that my monitor has a headphone jack. (I couldn't see the screen on the a6500 in the light, especially when filming in 4k and even not in 4k. So I needed a monitor so I wouldn't have to wait until I got into the editing room to discover my shots slightly out of focus.
    11:00 - I am a videographer and the unlimited recording is why upgraded from my a6500.
    11:14 - I totally agree with you, they overpriced it. They really should mark it down. A lower price would definitely earn the title Flagship.

    I'm seriously confused about negative opinions of Sony IBIS. My comments about it all relate to my A6500 but are equally relevant to the A6600. Keep in mind that I don't shoot video.
    I recently switched from my A77ii (and fallback A77) A-mount APS-C camera, with a heap of legacy A-mount lenses, and chose the A6500 (and both the LA-EA3 and LA-EA4 converters). I chose the A6500 over the A6400 because of IBIS, despite some nice features in the A6400.
    While the A6600 added several features I wanted, being an amateur without substantial income, the price of the A6600 was just too high for me.
    By the way, I have to say that the LA-EA4 performs far better than I had expected on SOME of my lenses, with the A6500. Examples which work nicely and where the A6500 IBIS really makes a big difference include the SAL 100/2.8 1:1 Macro, Minolta 50/1.4, Minolta 135/2.8 and Tamron 70-200/2.8 (IF) Macro.
    However, those A-mount lenses which AF properly with the A6500 when using the LA-EA3, have SUBSTANTIALLY faster AF and are STEADIER on the A6500 than on the A77ii. Examples of this include my SAL 70-400 G SSM II, and my Sigma 85/1.4. Hand-holding the 70-400 G2, at an effective focal length of 600mm, is a very doable option on the A6500.
    So, in short, IBIS works well for me on the A6500, and would be a strong reason for someone like me, with some excellent heavy A-mount glass, to choose the A6600 over the A6400.

    There is also a second custom position on the mode dial and a biggie is that the SD card no longer is placed near the battery door hinge which is a massive improvement .. Ibelieve the flash was removed to improve weather resistance and looking at my A6400 with the flash popped up I can see the logic in that

  • @tomhsia4354

    As someone who shoots with heavy Soviet lenses, a bigger grip and IBIS is a night and day difference. I don't really care about AF since my lenses don't have AF.
