Hey Tony, you forgot to talk about if your OTR with that truck, what's the rules of sleeping in the front, is that ok, or do you need a sleeper.
The DOT does not consider sleeping in the front of any vehicle, while on a mandatory rest break, quality rest and is a violation.
For your DOT card you submit it to the DMV a copy and afterwards you don’t have to carry it. It will be in the system and they won’t ask you for it on a DOT inspection because it shows you have one and it’s expiration date
Hi Victor. Yes, this is true. There was a period of time where all states were not on board with the DMV procedures, but I believe they are all accessible by the DOT now.
Depends on if the highway patrol wants to be an ass or not.
They have everything when a cop pulls you over in your car he has your license, insurance everything.
But they ask you anyways to be an ass and find a reason to nail you.
Just better to take a CYA approach in the transportation business.

Hello thank you for your videos and help… I’m an owner operator with non-Cdl and I drive a 16 ft straight box truck, Gvw is 7200lbs full loaded I can be 13.200lbs which is not común for my truck because you know my sizes capacity, so here is my question? Is on the Dot law any articule that said that I have to been using logbook?? Or the log book don’t apply us?? Please if yes or not why??? In case that I updated my truck to a 26ft and the truck Gvw is 14k even I haul under 26k do I need logbook in this case or either don’t need it??? Thank you
Hey Tony, when you refer to time card are you talking like a ELD or log sheets? I’m lost on that time card issue.
Sorry for the confusion. You may use a time card if you fall under the 150 mile short-haul exemption. They do not need to be carried with you in the truck. If on any one day you do not qualify for the exemption, you must use a log (does not need to be ELD). Time card records do not necessarily need to be kept at the place of business, but must be produced to the FMCSA with 48 hours when requested. Great Informative video. Since you are in TEXAS, I wanted to see if you know my next step. I recently filed for an LLC (received) for a box truck company. I have already filed my USDOT application because we will be operating / passing state lines. (or we hope to). Do I ALSO need to register for a TXDOT #? Our Intent is to be interstate instead of Intrastate. What if we only get start up contracts that are within in TEXAS state lone only.....will the USDOT still cover us?
It's better to just get the USdot it covers everything.

Hi Felicia. Yes, the employee needs a DOT card because he is driving a commercial vehicle. He does not need a drug test, however. All commercial vehicles must comply with weigh station rules and laws. Thank you for your question. Be safe…

Depends on your state. However, you do not need a CDL if your equipment is under 26,001 pounds.

Hello! I am moving from Florida to Texas and instead of paying a moving company, I’ve decided to buy a 4300 freighliner box truck rated for 25900 lbs GVWR to move myself, since I am moving my own furniture and I’m not passing the 26k line, do I need to get a USDOT? Or any sort of permit? Besides my regular class E license from Florida.
I have an LLC with MC and DOT# already in place in which I run Big Rigs with Flatbeds. My question is since I already have a policy in place for these trucks how can I add a separate one for box trucks?
Just add the equipment to your insurance policy. At some point, update you MCS-150 with the FMCSA and let them know you have added a box truck.
Can I get a nj dot number with out insurance and can sit with the number or I gotta be active to get the number?

@@htatesil4192 depends on the size of your rig and/or the company you work for.
Some companies run their own piss test even if you drive a sprinter van.
They mainly do this as retaliation.
So if you complain about loads they may call you in for a "random" drug test but really they just don't like you and need a good reason to fire you without unemployment insurance.

Federal regulations require a commercial vehicle be equipped with a UL rated fire extinguisher of 5 B:C, or two 4 B:C extinguishers. Hazmat carriers need to carry at least one 10 B:C extinguisher.

Great video great clear contents. Thank you. Question for you, I operate a moving company here in CA, have a couple of box trucks under 26k GVW, no CDL for local moves. Our driver got ticketed twice for no EDL or log book, even though he explained to CHP officer that he drives less than 6 hour per day and travels within 100 mile radius. Is there a way to appeal to FMSCA and get the violations removed? It hurting over insurance premium.
Even though your driver is exempt under the short haul rules, he/she must produce some type of record to the DOT officer of his/her working hours. This is best done by keeping a time card in the truck noting the drivers working hours for the past seven days. It does not need to break out driving hours, simply the driver’s name, date, time started and time off duty…for the past 7 days.
Log book is a must... CHP officer is just being a dick!

Can you talk about IFTA and other "trip permits" regarding box trucks please? Am I correct in stating that non CDL box truck operations do not need to do the IFTA tax?
Two axel commercial vehicles under 26,001 pounds do not need to be part of IFTA. However, check your state to see if they have any fuel tax requirements for you.

Your DOT# is for any type of commercial vehicles you have, regardless of type or size. So if you have box trucks and semi trucks, your DOT# is good for both.
I have My Medical card, completed Trucking School, got my Class A CDL.
I have my DOT#, and MC#.
Let me clarify, that I have not purchased my own Tractor Truck or Box Truck.

If you plan on using it for commercial purposes, to make money, then yes you need a DOT number.

If it will be used for personal use only, not for hire, it is not considered a commercial vehicle.
