    Thank you for this super IMPORTANT "minor" detail!!! I watched a few other videos and none of them mentioned the key position!!! No wonder I couldn't link my car to the garage door. (3:35) Note: If your car is keyless, push the ignition button twice.

    Hey Chris, I watched several videos with absolutely no luck programming our car remote control. Then got lucky and found your video!!! IT WORKED!!!! FINALLY WORKED!!!!
    The step that every other video was missing was the very last step where you had to go back up on the latter and press the "learn button" to actually do the final step of programming. Outstanding job! THANK YOU!!!

      Thanks for the kind words! Sometimes the best way to learn is why you're doing it wrong rather than how to do it right

      @@theittyreportMy Stanley garage motor doesn't have Learn button😢

    • @theittyreport
      @theittyreport  Год назад

      @troylollysaf9311 it may be under a panel you have to unscrew to locate. Check on Google if your model has a learn button and where to find it. Learn buttons can be found on multiple places and look quite different as well. But if it doesn't have a learn button, it may or may not work. Learn buttons are created for security reasons that create rolling codes are force the door to be open at the time of programming your car. It also sometimes makes you do it a few times to prove you're the only person trying to program it. Basically, the bigger the pain in the ass it is, the better the security. However, before rolling codes, you really only had to hold your button down on the garage door opener to your car and it would clone the code and simply just work. Very easy to program but also easy to steal your garage door signal.

    I don’t know if all homelink units are identical, but I had something weird happen. All 3 garage doors at my house are Python 2. My wife has a Honda Odyssey and I have a Lexus ES 350. Your directions worked great for each vehicle, however, on our center door it would only take to one vehicle. I tried multiple times. My Lexus would have it, but when I’d program the Honda it would go away… what’s even weirder is that I could see it still has the rolling code, because when I’d hit the center button on the non-working car, the light on the garage unit would blink. Tried that several times and one car would always take it from the other, but the right door could be operated by both our cars…. 🤷‍♂️ where it got really weird is on my last try, my car randomly programmed my leftmost garage door which I already gave up programming because we don’t have a remote for it. I thought I’d share in case anyone came across my comment and had any thoughts. Thanks for the video, it got me much closer than I did on my own.

      Great info! The truth is this example does not work for every single car nor does it work for every single garage door opener I haven't needed to apologize because I don't need to because I don't own those homes nor the cars and this is free information but I also discovered on my own three houses that I tested this on is it worked for the first and the third but not the second at all I even watched my own video to see if I forgot something after figuring all this stuff out and I still at the end of the day could not get the second home to work and just stuck with the garage door opener at the time. But I've programmed everything from Mercedes Bentley's Audi's and Volvos alike and they all had quirks and sometimes you just had to do it over and over and over to get it to work but I'm glad you stuck with it so please give it up with a like and subscribe!

      @denniswilson9317 2 года назад

      @@theittyreport I finally reluctantly held the 2 outer buttons and cleared out the Homelink ( will probably have to reprogram my other doors now ). I went through the process at least a dozen times for a rolling code opener to no avail. I found a utube that informed me that some Homelinks just aren't compatible with some Liftmasters. You have to install an adapter kit. Since my door is a basement door and not one of my daily used garage doors I will pass and continue to use the handheld.

    • @theittyreport
      @theittyreport  2 года назад

      @@denniswilson9317 just a heads up, I got this car to work on two of the three homes I've lived at since I made this video. I even rewatched my own self to see if I forgot something and never got it to work. Several people have had this issue and there is no solve for it. But the fact that you got two doors programmed means it does work, but confirms that your other door simply is not compatible. So it comes down to keep using the remote vs replace the garage door opener all together, which if money is no object, have at it!

    So then do you need to program the button, like say #1 on the car, with the garage door opener remote first and then hit the reset button on the actual garage door motor until the little light comes on and then jump back in the car and press the button on the car again or do I skip the garage door remote altogether and just use the door opener motor reset button? Also, which light are you talking about going off after this, the light next to the 3 buttons in the car or the light on the garage door opener motor?

    • @theittyreport
      @theittyreport  Год назад +1

      So here's the deal, this may no matter what you do not work. It even didn't work for me 1 out of 3 houses I lived at. When I did the video 8 years ago, it worked great but I moved into a rental home before buy my current house and no matter what I did, including rewatching my own video to see if I missed a step, it just didn't work. I think it has to do with the roll codes in the garage door system itself. I'd love to tell you the fix or tell you for certain it will or won't work based off your system but unfortunately there's just no way to troubleshoot your system over RUclips. If I was at your house I'd gladly help do everything to figure it out with you, I've helped a ton this way but there are several people on RUclips that screamed at me for wasting their time with a free tutorial lol. Either way, I'd make sure to watch the entire video, don't skip around, there's a section that clearly shows where it may go wrong so please watch it again in detail. As you see in the comments, it's worked for more than 50k at least people so it should work for you. But again, if you had a system like I had at my 2nd house, you'll need to upgrade the door or stick with the remote. Best of luck! Please let me know if you get it working

      @@theittyreport I tried our garage opener, it's a Colman brand I believe. I couldn't get it to work. I'll see if I can research why it didn't with this particular opener or maybe I just didn't do it right for that opener but no dice on that one yet. Went to my mothers today to program it for her garage door but I forgot the remote, it's in our van and my wife was out in it so I just tried it by pushing the little button on the back of the motor and it didn't work. It works for my mothers 2005 Lexus ES 330 so not sure why it didn't work for our 2002 LS 430, maybe I need the remote to get it to work. I'll try again tomorrow

    • @theittyreport
      @theittyreport  Год назад

      Thanks for understanding, one other thing I'd try just to scientifically rule out your car is to go to a family or good friend and ask if you can try and program your car to their home and see if this works. If it does, it's your door, not your car. I know it's a strange request but to codes are easy to delete but this is a huge troubleshooting step no one tries. Hope it helps!

      I've had a few people tell me this and it does depend on the remote and garage door. I've lived in three houses since this video and got the house in this video and the house I'm in now to work based off these instructions. However, everything I tried for over an hour on the second house simply just didn't work so I know your frustration. If you have another family member that will let you test it at their house to confirm that your transmitter in your car is indeed working at least you'll be able to narrow the issues down to the garage door or remote control. I'd also replace the battery in the remote as well as unplug the garage door for 10 seconds to hard reset it. That may do it but I'd love to say this works every time for everyone but that's why I have a bunch of thumbs down lol. Hope you get it working!

    • @theittyreport
      @theittyreport  3 года назад +1

      @@ms.kellam9616 that may be the problem, the more advanced the garage door is, the more secure it is. Some have rolling codes which means you have to program it a very specific way. Sometimes it also requires two people, one to press the button in the car, and someone to press the button on the garage door motor at the same time. This guarantees that the code to your system can't be hacked. This happened for a client of mine trying to sync up her Bentley. It took all day and tons of googling. Best of luck!

    Just follow the directions. Unfortunately there is no way to program Homelink unless you have a remote for the garage door. It will not learn directly from the learn button on the garage opener.

      I believe that's correct. However I had to do something like this to another system different than this and it had to be sent rolling codes from the garage door itself and required two people. One to hold the button in the car and another pushing the button on the lifter. It was a Bentley continental that has more tech in it than nasa. But I've had to tell quite a few people that this obviously works for some, but even for me, didn't work on 1 of the 3 houses I lived it since I posted this. I even rewatched my own video to see if I did it wrong lol. Nope, just is incompatible with some systems

      @theittyreport  4 года назад

      @@michellekirkland6866 did you watch the entire video explaining how it can go wrong? Please watch it again all the way through to make sure you didn't miss something. But to be fair, some systems are simply a pain in the ass and just don't want to dance the same steps. I've done this for 3 houses and one of them just wouldn't work so it may not be anything on your end to do short from replacing the garage door opener itself which is silly. Hope you solve it!

    Make sure you watch the entire video and do both steps. 1) garage button to car 2) car sending code to garage receiver in learning mode
    I made the mistake of doing just one or the other over and over again. You can easily be fooled because it appears that it’s working after step 1 but that is because he is hitting the garage door button and programming the car engaging the opener. Seems very obvious after you get it working but trust me this took me way longer than it should have. The manual is a bit vague as well. Thanks for the video.

      Some are harder to find than others but In most cases if your garage door unit isn't over 25 years old it would have a learn button for rolling codes. But I've told a few people this video just couldn't help is on a very old house I rented everything I did to get it to work failed and I simply had to use the door opener the landlord provided me. I wasn't going to buy a new garage door opener for the rental I was in so I was stuck. But hope you find it. Good luck!

      Unfortunately I will tell you that some combinations of systems will simply be a real pain to get to work. I did this video at my old house and it took me forever to get it right, so I did the video for others so they didn't have the same issues I had. Soon as I moved, tried all the same things over and over on a different system, nothing worked. It's a rental house so I'm just using the clicker they gave me in the meantime. I'd watch the video all the way through and look out for what I point out that caused the issue and see if you can get it to work. If not, it may just not work. Best of luck

      Trust me I get it. The reason I put this video up was because I couldn't find any information on how to do it so once I figured it out, I put up a video to help. However, I did discover that it doesn't work for 100% of doors. Some garage systems simply will not work with homelink systems. Got this to work on 2 of 3 houses since I put this up. Hope it works for you

    This video is a confusing mess. I know your trying to help but alas. Watching your video is more confusing.

      @@theittyreport Chris, yes you called it. After wasting my time on something I can't do, I will share my experience so others don't waste their time either.
      The remotes I have are incompatable with this vehicle. It will never work with them.
      I have older remotes that do work properly.
      So if you have newer remotes, you may be wasting your time.
      Chris can rest easy now. No need to.police a badly done video for the author. Bet you wouldn't watch a movie he produced with 3 flash backs, after 2 flash forwards, and a couple rewinds.

      Yet, look at all the people that I've helped. You being such a failed attempt to be human by insulting me first using ten cent words from a fantasy movie and then trying to explain what you tried to do to solve your issue could be your downfall. Simply put, I would and have helped hundreds of people for free because they asked for help. You took the time to show me how bad you stuck at life and how something as some as garage door perplexes you. And I'm pretty sure you're a Democrat so it wraps this one up as far getting you to understand reason and accountability. Ps, I got this to work at 2 of 3 houses in which the 2nd home simply was not compatible with rolling codes. See, if you were nice, I would have just told you that.
