- FIRST LOOK: the Terrain gets a redesign for 2025 from GMC. On the outside you will discover an all new front fascia, grill, wheels, lighting and 2-tone paint. On the inside there a leather style interior all new infotainment system and digital gauge cluster. Under the hood is a 1.5L turbocharged inline-4 paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission. @@JS-cz6cj Yeah, weird that the Rav4, CX-5, and Forester all have bigger engines. Just hoping that 1.5 isn’t overworked, but it probably is.
GM is knocking their redesigns out of the park. I like how it looks distinct from their Chevy equivalents. But the engine options leave so much to be desired. It’s what I’d expect in the Malibu, not an suv.
Honestly, this should have a 2.0 turbo rather than a 1.5
@@theburg2220 I agree, or rather I think that the GMC Terrain should at least re-offer the 2.0T engine as an available upgrade. GMC is a slightly more premium brand than Chevrolet, with Buick and Cadillac on the higher end. If the Buick Envision and the Cadillac XT4 offer the 2.0T engine as a base, and the Chevrolet Equinox offers only the 1.5T engine, the GMC Terrain should bridge the gap between the 1.5T engine in the Equinox and the 2.0T in the Buick and Cadillac.
I'm really digging this new Terrain Joe. This is the model when GMC redesigned it in 2018, which really made me a fan of GMC design. I can tell you and Lori were pressed for time cause you did 3 trims in one review instead of individually, lol. Great job on getting all external walk arounds of all 3, always making it happen 👍

Nice updates but the 1.5L turbo engine is a big mistake!
I think GM did a thing here Joe, honestly. But if you ask me its missing one more trim; the GMC Terrain Typhoon! Throw a modern version of that vortex v6 in there with some turbos or a 3 liter super charger, some 265's on sporting wheels with some performance brakes and that's all she wrote Joe. It's the perfect chassis.
Look I like GMC. I rented a terrain recently and I thought it was cool. My only problem is reliability. Give me a strong 4cyl that can go at least 200k miles without a major issue/failure. No need for turbo or hybrid things that can break. Just give me a strong reliable car.

When the Terrain was redesigned for the 2018 model year, the 2.0 liter turbo engine was available, at least on the Denali trim. I test-drove one and found it to be really nice, with plenty of smooth power. At the time, the lease on my 2015 Denali was coming due. I ended up leasing, then purchasing at lease end, a Toyota Rav4 Hybrid Limited instead, which has turned out just fine. When the Terrain was refreshed for 2022, GM, for whatever reason, discontinued offering this engine. I think that GM should offer it at least as an option on the lower trims and give the Denali trim the 2.0 liter that the Cadillac XT4 uses or something else along those lines. It's really a sharp looking vehicle, but having only the 1.5 liter offering is going to turn some potential buyers away.
Yup. Older Camrys have more power than the new Terrain.
I was thinking about similar problem. Exactly same with Chevy Equinox. Smaller engine, less power and no Hybrid. They trying to make MPG look better with less power. Tech is really nice, but there's no power nor torque. This cars aren't worth the money. Almost same price are Hyundai Tucson Hybrid and Kia Sportage. And the Hybrids are much stronger and faster for the same category and size!
I like how the screen does not stick up above the dash. Love the colors. Just want to see this engine hold up over time.
A little discouraged with trend in powertrains. Tiny engines with turbo. Not a good long term deal. It is like they are treading water to figure the way the wind will blow in the near future.

I love the overall look and feel but I wish it had a bit more engine. The 2.7 turbo option would set them apart from competition.

Nice looking vehicle. Unfortunately GMC lost me at the tiny engine. I like a smooth engine that doesn’t have a clattering noise or vibrate a lot under acceleration.

@@RaitisRides Thanks. This is why I’ll be hanging onto my 2022 F150 with the 5.0v8 for the time being. It’s such a smooth engine. I average 19mpg on average and 24mpg/highway. Not bad for a full size truck.
Not gonna lie, I forget about GMC sometimes lol. That being said, this looks pretty great.
Underpowered and CVT for FWD model is as laughable as it gets.
I love how they added so many things in the lower trim level.

@@chriss3246You're 100% correct. Same problem with new 2025 Chevy Equinox. If you check Hyundai tucson hybrid 2025 and Kia Sportage hybrid. Combined engine is 28% more horsepower and much more Torque. Compared to GMC and Chevrolet it's like sportcars!
Will the Terrain AT4 trim come with a spare tire and jack? Or are they removing those for good, for cost cutting?

Is the 175hp turbo the only powerplant? You'll be pushing it over mountain passes.
So frustrating. The Terrain looks great but I think the chintzy 1.5 175 hp turbo is a deal breaker especially when you can get the Toyota hybrid at 225 hp. I want to support US carmaking but come on.

Rogue gets you 200 Hp. Typical GM, they get it 85% right. Is that intentional?

The way they integrated the infotainment system is waaaay better than Ford’s implementation. Usually I HATE portrait style screens in a car, but I don’t mind GMCs implementation. GMCs refresh is impressive!
I have a 2018 gmc terrain and I love it, but I love more all the changes they are bringing to all the trims. Awesome 2025 models

It would be the best if it had the powertrain. This size of vehicle needs a 250hp 2L turbo!
I love the look and would be down at the GMC dealer tomorrow if it were not for the 1.5 engine. I've driven them and they are a dog. I skipped the current Terrain for an Envision because it has the 2.0 engine. That is not what I would call a powerhouse but at least I feel like it will get out of it's own way in a sticky situation. Maybe they will offer the 2.0 as an option later on at least on the Denali trim. One can hope anyway.
I actually like it. And im normally not a fan of GM products. But they have really pulled all stocks for this one! I think it will sell well. It's sure better looking than the Rav4 and CRV. It just needs a performance trim or hybrid option. And tuck the wiper in the back for a cleaner look. But I think most people just want a vehicle with a better modern design and an interior that makes you feel that you spend more money than it actually worth. And better gas mileage whether it's a hybrid or not.

@Cavemol5823 Like I said, I don't think people care about power, as long they get the best EPA gas mileage. Most just want an efficient car that is not boring to drive. And what you get for the money, I think GM has a target audience out there.
Looks like they moved away from the push button transmission, to having it back on the steering wheel? The new interior looks much better, miles ahead. Is it the same engine as well? either way, i like it. I was thinking of getting a 24 but may hold off until these come out.

It looks quite pretty. That blue color fits it perfectly.
The push button design of the gear shifter is an absolutely horrible design. I rented one of these in Arizona and I put several hundred miles on it. I came away not impressed. This SUV is so slow it can’t even get out of its own way.
2.0 turbo, LTG, de tuned 220 HP, 8 speed auto starting at $30k they couldn't keep them on the lot. Instead they produced crap like this.

Interior looks like it could very well be best in class. I'd want to test drive to see if the engine seems too slow or not, but otherwise, it seems like they crushed it. I was very impressed by the new Acadia but just don't need a midsize SUV. It's awesome to see they brought that interior into the Terrain.
I like the look I question if has enough power to do the driving people will want to do with this suv

I leased a 2024 SLT elevation in all black, I was hoping to trade it in for a 2025 model . Hoping that they move to a 2.0 turbo or something even more powerful. I dislike the 1.5 turbo , 175 horsepower engine. It looks like I will finish my lease and trade it in for something better.

I have a 2017 because I did not like the design on the other models. THIS is the upgrade I’ve been waiting for! I’d be very happy with the elevation trim. I love the infotainment system. The elevation really gives you all of the upgrades that you need. I’m interested to see what features the other 2 trims have.

1.5L Engine with 175hp is too Weak. i thought these came with a V6 Natural Engine producing atleast 280hp to 300hp ++
a natural 2.4 or 2.5 could do the same hp

i notice you didnt mention the Auto hold feature, first time available on the GMC Terrain. Beautiful vehicle but so disappointed that they didnt offer the 2.0L or other engine option.
Does the elevation have the HUD as standard?
I still prefer the 2025 Chevy Equinox RS AWD over any of the GMC Terrains. Looks more sportier than the GMC models. The 1.5 liter turbo I still have reservations (skeptical) though. At the very least, make it a 2.0 turbo.

I can't understand how they make a 175hp turbocharged V4 engine? All the Japanese models are over 200hp. So you're going to think it's very fuel efficient, and it doesn't have power. Well, no, it's not comparable to models that have more power and better fuel economy. I like the design, it looks strong.
Gotta throw a bigger engine in there but this is an interesting option. Looking to trade in my Audi Q3
The gloss black trim on the Denali in the grill should be all chrome/ aluminum. Love at first sight with the AT4

Why do they debut a car in black where you cant make out the lines?
GMC is doing what all other mainline auto makers are doing. Small engine with a turbo. The turbo is not for performance. It’s just to give the engine enough power to make it so that it’ll move the vehicle. I really wish the government wasn’t forcing car manufacturers to do this.
It seems the only way to get around getting a non-turbo engine is getting a hybrid which a lot of manufacturers are also doing. That way you can at least get an naturally aspirated four-cylinder. That’s what I plan on doing with my next vehicle.
So when it's not in all wheel drive it's in....? Rear wheel

Why all the complaints about the engine being too small for this size of vehicle?. A lot of people seem to be satisfied buying full size pickups with little dinky turbo V-6's when proper Cummins, Duramax, and Powerstokes are available.

This was a great review!!! Not sure where it's made, but what I personally like about it, is that the headlights are where they should be with the turn signals. The 2 tone color on this one is nice, and it's not over the top!! Good job GMC!

From the front, this terrain looks more like a continuation of the 2020-2023 Acadia than the new Acadia does.
Even the tailight design looks lifted right off my 22 Acadia.
Edit: That is an interesting location for the mode select. I'm still getting used to the E-parking brake being on the left in my Acadia, don't know how I'd handle drive mode/awd being on the left when every vehicle I have ever owned its been on the right somewhere. It's a small thing of course, just an interesting implementation.
