This was one of the best running documentaries I have seen! I followed every second of the live stream and every time they captured you there was an energy around you. This video just kept that story going and showed all the sides. You highlighted the highs and the lows and just captured it all beautifully! Well done and congratulations on your finish!
Thank you Michele! I’m glad you were able to enjoy the live video feed, you have a special perspective coming into this video. I’m so happy you enjoyed this, thank you for watching and thank you for your comment!
I took up running at the start of this year aged 30 and I am so addicted with it I spend my time watching ultramarathon runs and I can’t applaud you enough on your efforts and how much it inspires me to run
@@wplate Thanks for the reply Wes, yeah I’ve been trying to do as much research as I can to find optimal time training and resting, I’m of quite good fitness coming into running so I’ve had a decent starting point and I’m aiming for a 50K May of next year, any tips you’d give a first timer
This was beyond words amazing. The fact you could not only complete this event but also film so you could share your journey with others is another level. So Inspiring!
Wes wins the race to get his Cocodona recap video published first! The edit was almost as epic as the race, I’m sure 😉. Can’t wait to watch this tonight.
So many amazing people, including yourself of course, in this race! Well done and a simply astonishing journey! Thank you for taking us along with you!
The mental toughness it takes to get through one of these races is the most inspiring thing on earth to me. Thanks for the video. The Kerry Ward addition sealed the deal on me subscribing haha.
I haven't even done a race yet but I'm glad I've finally found my thing... I've been getting about 30-40 miles a week and I feel like it's really starting to click :). Started my running journey two years ago and I lost a whole lotta weight. Gained a little back recently. All of it doesn't really matter. Getting out on the trail and enjoying nature is so damn crucial for my level of happiness. Comfort truly is a lie. Edit: EPIC job on the run and the capture of the experience!
"This moment, this low point is what you paid your money for. This moment is what got you to this place. The only way you can get to this place is by doing something ridiculously difficult, challenging and so on. Embrace it fully, experience it and move past it"...... If that isn't the most perfectly worded running wisdom I have ever heard about the pure truth about why I run. You have to welcome the punishment as well as the beauty of each run...... Great job Wes.
Great job out there man!! and I appreciate so much that you put the names and bids of each runner. It’s awesome to click on a video and see a fellow ultraspire athlete! Hope to meet you out on the trail on day !
Congratulations again Wes, and I absolutely love the video. I couldn't take my eyes off the Araviapa live stream during the race - so fun to watch as it was happening.
Thank you for this Hayden. Yes, Leah is incredible and I'm unbelievably lucky to have her by my side. Thank you for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed this.
Thanks for watching James! I so enjoyed hanging out and chatting with you. Thanks for welcoming me into the Aid Station. :) Good luck at Mogollon, I hope it goes well. Hope we bump into each other again.
I’ve never been more inspired from a running film. This is amazing. Congratulations!! I hope someday soon I can approach 250 miles as well as you did sir!
Unbelievably touching to watch through your eyes, Wes. Thank you for taking me with you. One day ..... I might meet you on one of these crazy journeys. It all begins with the first step. You da man, Wes!!!
Congrats! This was really well done. The music was spot on. Loved this so much. I signed up for my first two ultras this year, hope I can share the cheer that you have!
Thank you. I feel so lucky to have been able to participate in this. Finishing it was a big confidence boost, I can’t help be grateful for the experience. :)
This is an amazing experience. I really had an awesome time going through all the hardships with you, seeing all those beautiful sceneries that mother nature provides. The level of determination to keep going on for 250+ miles is such an achievement! Congrats to you, i am hoping to see more videos like this in the future!
Thanks for the motivation I needed this morning watching this. My favorite point is when you have less than a mile to go and you decide to really pick it up. It just goes to show that we can always push ourselves further than our bodies think they can go. Congrats on the major accomplishment and thanks for sharing your jourey. I look forward to seeing more of your stuff as you have an instant new sub from me. Keep it up man!
I like to finish strong if I can. It was amazing how good we felt after so many miles, and it was fun to turn it on for a second on the way downhill. I’m glad you enjoyed this! Thanks!
You honestly amaze me every time I watch you race I’m so impressed by how positive you are . You give me so much motivation and I really appreciate you sharing your journey. Thank you Wes !!
I knew your name was Dougie! That, the amazing preaching by Kerry with the camaraderie formed with him, and most of all the filming was truly extraordinary. Thanks for sharing and inspiring!
Thanks Steve. The Dougie thing is one of my favorite parts too. I barely remember Kamp Kipa but apparently he made an impression, straight into my dejavu hallucination.
Wes! I was just checking out vids from Cocodona and was on my way to sleep, but I watched it from start to finish! Very great documentary. We will be creating one this year! Thanks for your detailed account of the course!
I am a follower of Carrie Ward, and I checked you out because of this particular race. Your style of documentation of the race is so interesting to me. You seem to be such a humble and beautiful person. I love Carrie, he is Bitchin, but it’s exciting to see a totally different take on this event. I’m most particularly love the relationship you have with your wife. I am a believer in such things, and I actually cried when your wife was so gently and lovingly saying “baby”, as she evaluated your condition, so as to help you in the most efficient and beneficial way. That is deep love man, and I respect it so much❤️You guys are awesome
I’m glad Kerry’s video brought you here! I was so blessed to spend so much time with Kerry in the trails. That’s one of the neat things about this kind of distance run, we get to share so much time with other runners and develop deep bonds.
I love ultras. And in theory this distance sounds awesome. But after completing 38 miles of a 50 miler, I just can’t imagine how painful this would be. I am beyond words blown away with this video, just by the sheer amount of miles and pain you endured. This is truly amazing and an example of the power of the human spirit. Beyond speechless
Thanks for watching Josh. I am sure after my first 50M I was like you and couldn't imagine going further. But then, one day you do go further, and you are surprised what you're capable of. I'm thrilled you enjoyed this video, the experience of Cocodona was life-changing, I am excited to return to Cocodona in about a month!
Outstanding work! You did such an amazing job on the video - not to mention completing the race. Thank you so much! If this race "takes off" they can thank YOU for such a wonderful and inspiring documentary!
Great video! That's a huge feat! I'm doing an ultra in every state but I cannot run that far yet. Why am I not surprised to see Kerry Ward there? He's the man.
WOW! Wes, Congrats. You did a great job of filming as well as your crew. Thank you for taking the time to put this documentary together. Aa a fellow endurance athlete I have been to those dark places only to come back out and feel fantastic. Amazing what the human body and mind can do. I look forward to watching more of your adventures. Randy
Beautiful! My second or third time watching this and I still tear up at watching you finish. Great job! I love your videos and your bright spirit shines through every race video.
Wes, I absolutely loved this video. You really captured the essence of ultra running and the bonding of like minded people. I will be running my 61st ultra and I promise to carry the memory of this adventure you had with Kerry and your wife. Amazing work and perseverance !!
Thanks, Andy, that’s an amazing compliment. Ultras are fun, even when they’re not, and the bonds that develop on the trail are some of the most special. I hope I meet you out there some time!
Glad you enjoyed it. Some of that English misery running looks interesting. I've enjoyed some of the videos of The Arc of Attrition and stuff like that. I'm not sure I'm tough enough for that.
Wow your races are so inspiring! We are towards the end of our training for our first ultra and your videos have been a great way to get in the right mindset! Thank you for sharing your journey and we can’t wait to watch more videos of yours!
Incredible job, both with the run and making the video! As an ultra runner training for my first 50 miler, this was so inspiring to check out your journey at Cocodona!
What an amazing achievement to complete the race. Unbelievable!!! And an equally amazing job documenting and editing it into this outstanding video. Well done 👏👏👏
Thanks Damian. And thank you for taking the time to watch it. Projects like this have three major phases for me: 1. Planning. I print wall maps and study elevation profiles and watch whatever video I can find to get mentally ready. 2. Run the thing. In this case that’s nearly a week all it’s own! 3. Make the video. It’s a fun albeit busy and slight stressful way to stay in the enjoyment of the race as I relive it through the documentary I make. It is hard work, all of it, but I love it.
Hi David! That first section took out a lot of really strong runners. Will you be going back next year? It definitely got easier than the first day, but the sections after Black Tank were tougher than I expected. I needed more water and calories through there.
Great video Wes! Way to go man, that's a crazy race..... Seemed like you really picked it up once you and Kerry hooked up, so cool to see you running so strong on the back half of that race!
I'm more inspired to take on such an epic adventure! Thank you for sharing your vision, perspective, and taking the time to document this journey. Adding in the element of filming is a beast in itself. I want to walk/run/experience every mile of this earth more than ever. I appreciate you!
Traveling across the land on my own feet gives me a sense of connection to that place that feels very intimate. The places I run become so special to me, and to return or just drive by fills me with energy. The Cocodona course is a part of me now and I still feel it buzzing inside me a little. Such an incredible experience.
Amazing man! That descent down to Jerome 😆 It was fun to share that section with you and maybe next year we will link up. Again, great job documenting this experience!
Thanks for watching Scott. In as much as that descent was fun it was because we did it together. I like that in the video we're heard laughing together. I look forward to seeing you next year.
Congratulations on a great run! It just amazed me how upbeat you can be during such a grueling adventure. I was a little worried for you when you hit a low point- I think it was at mile 160, but then there was Kerry to share some words of wisdom, and you kept a moving. Glad no rattlers curled up next to you or Kerry when you guys took a snooze on trail.
Really awesome! I run mostly ultramarathons on track (12 and 24hs). And as I’m going to run an ultra for the first time on a beach I started to do some research to find some tips and I found this documentary. I never heard of this race and this kind of format. I’m truly amazed, this blown up my mind. Greetings from Uruguay! And congrats for such an incredible way of enjoying life.
You did such a great job documenting this incredible event, and of course in the race itself - amazing! This is so motivating, the ultra running community, beautiful nature and all the ups and downs along the journey
Wow Wes truly amazing film,. I have done a couple of half marathons and I am finally doing another two this year and the thought of doing a full marathon seems so much but watching you cover 250 miles is mind boggling. Loved your chat and updates, your crew and the views are beautiful. Congratulations👌👏👏👏
Great job Wes - for the video and for your run, which was amazing - 34th - wow!. You got so much footage and really captured the feeling of what is was like to be out there (in all that heat). I loved that you and Kerry sync'd up and were a support to each other. He's a great guy and is always Mister Positivity about everything. I don't know if you'll ever do this one again but you rocked it - well done - Congrats!
Thank you! This was a very special adventure, I am so happy I was able to document it and capture some of the memories. I love that I can share the video with you.
A truly moving production! You can feel the emotion of the run through the video! You inspire me to be a better runner and creator every time you create art like this!
Amazing video. Incredible accomplishment. So cool to see so much of this race. Great job filming and editing all this together. But mostly great job accomplishing such an incredible feat of endurance. Thanks for posting this!
Wes, these videos are incredible! I am an avid runner who has been making some running videos here and there, and have been looking to make videos like these. I love your style, storytelling, and straight honesty. Gives a real look inside what it is like. I live in the Bellingham area and work in Central WA half the year, maybe I'll see you out there sometime! Keep up the great work!
So inspirational and really fun to follow. Amazing documentary alone, but to have done it and thought this through while running is even more impressive! Your energy throughout was amazing. Congratulations!
Thank you. These videos are fun for me to make, I love it that you enjoyed watching it. Positive energy makes a huge difference! Leah said that if I was positive 60% of Moab, Cocodona was more like 80%. I had my low points, but overall I kept it trending upwards. :)
well done, Wes...fantastic video, your are inspiring many...so professionally done. I have been following this event since Jamil introduced the idea, the backdrop is amazing. Thanks for taking me through it. You are helping me reach my goals.
I’m glad you watched Adam! It was an incredibly fun and incredibly difficult race. I loved it and hated it, both more than I expected. “Beautiful Hell” was a name I gave it around mile 185. A month later I’m still high on the experience.
This is really great. I'm so impressed with how positive you're able to remain throughout such a difficult ordeal. Really inspiring! Thanks for the wonderful film.
Thank you Matt! Bay Area running legend Chuck Wilson impressed upon me the importance of a positive attitude as I was training for my first 100. It isn't always easy, and because it isn't always easy, it has to be a decision to be positive. Doesn't mean low points won't happen, as this shows out of Sedona, but you can't let negativity take root and grow. Stay positive!
Me too! Kerry said when we paces runners, and those runners have a bad time, those were the words he would tell them. Lucky to get that wisdom from him.
This was one of the best running documentaries I have seen! I followed every second of the live stream and every time they captured you there was an energy around you. This video just kept that story going and showed all the sides. You highlighted the highs and the lows and just captured it all beautifully! Well done and congratulations on your finish!

Thanks Sylvia! I try to stay positive, but it was awesome to get a pep talk from Kerry. Thanks for watching the video.
Thanks for watching Ricardo! I'm so happy you found my channel and you enjoyed this video. Good luck on your beach race!
You did such a great job documenting this incredible event, and of course in the race itself - amazing! This is so motivating, the ultra running community, beautiful nature and all the ups and downs along the journey
Thank you, Ruwen, I'm so happy you enjoyed taking the journey with us.
Thank you Simon! Good luck with your halfs this year.
@@wplate cheers 👍
Epic - massive respect to you sir - loved watching every minute of this journey - thank you for sharing it :)
Thanks for watching Mark!
Thank you Daylan. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Amazing video. Incredible accomplishment. So cool to see so much of this race. Great job filming and editing all this together. But mostly great job accomplishing such an incredible feat of endurance. Thanks for posting this!
Thank you Austin!
Wes love you video! I’ve been doing road races for years and I’m contemplating trail running definitely watching this makes eager to start.
I hope you get to try it! I think trail racing is better for your body anyway, less impact! :)
Thank you Lucas. Very kind words. 🙏🏼
Huge respect to you and your crew Wes. Thank you for taking us through your journey. Keep going..
Thank you! And thanks for watching!
Absolutely a Great Video!
Thanks Uncle Rico!
Your commitment, grit and perseverance are so inspiring! I also loved seeing the support from your family. They are awesome!
Thank you Lesley! My family is so supportive, I’m very very lucky. :)
Kerry Ward (@fulltiltward) spelling it all out at 38:35
Wise words from a legend. Such a beautiful gift.
The exposure for this race looks absolutely brutal.
Yes! Sun protection was a must.
Congratulations to you, your crew and all the other participants--what an epic journey--thanks so much for sharing!
Thank you and thanks for watching!
well done, Wes...fantastic video, your are inspiring many...so professionally done.
Fantastic achievement! Well done! Such a great attitude the entire time.
Thanks Mark. A positive attitude makes a huge difference. :) Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.
Truly amazing race and film. I have to do this race some day. You captured the beauty of that part of our country!
Thanks for watching! It is an epic event, I hope you’re able to run it.
Great coverage of that very impressive trial. Joy to watch.
Thank you! I'm happy you enjoyed.
Nicely done video. I’m gonna do the Sedona Canyon 125 in a few weeks… seeing the second half of your race was legit useful. Thx!
Maybe I’ll see you there! I hope you love it!
Incredible effort! I greatly enjoyed the film!
Thanks for watching, Patrick, I’m so happy you liked it.
Beautifully done. Evocative and emotional. Great music track and compelling narrative. Thank you...incredible adventure.
Thank you, Jonathan, I love your review. :)
What a massive effort! Lots of cheers from Norway.
Thank you!
Great video! And loved the words of wisdom from Kerry during your low point.
Me too! Kerry said when we paces runners, and those runners have a bad time, those were the words he would tell them. Lucky to get that wisdom from him.
Congratulations !!!
What a fantastic journey.
Your crew was spectacular and
that bass solo was killer.
Thank you Jason! That mini bass concert was so cool. Search RUclips for Stereognosis Miles Jay to see more of his performances, He’s super cool.
Absolutely amazing. You are a beautiful spirit, thank you for sharing this experience with us.
Thank you Tanya!
So cool to have Kerry Ward in this!! He inspired me to run Bigfoot!,,,
I was very lucky to spend so much time with Kerry. Thanks for watching.
This is insane. I didn’t know it was possible to do what y’all do
It is a wild thing we do, but I love it! Thank you for watching.
Thank you very much for documenting this journey. What a great watch!
I’m happy you enjoyed watching!
What an amazing movie, well done
Thank you Nenet!
