I love how you allow yourself to be vulnerable in these videos, and show the tender moments with your partner - not just the big 'I made it' highs. It shows what it really takes to make it through such an event.
My god Wes….this is my third one with you. It’s so cliched but you inspire me…i am doing my first 50k soon….after watching this i stopped putting off the sign up. Amazing xxx
I’m so stoked for you! I hope you’ll come back and tell me how your 50k went. Remember, when it gets hard, and it will, that the difficulty is part of the journey. Press forward with a positive attitude. Enjoy the experience!
I've listened to your videos while training for a while now. I turn 50 in Sept and my goal is to complete my first 50 miler in Jan. Thank you for the motivation and inspiration to keep going for those goals. 😊
I love that this content is useful to your training! I am excited for you to be tackling your first 50 miler. Which one are you training for? Thank you for supporting the channel!
@wplate it's a local race, the Monroe Cross Trail 50. I ran it last Jan but only made it halfway before stomach issues forced me to drop. Been doing a lot of nutrition changes since then, and going back next Jan for redemption!! 😁
@newbarker523 I got the flu the week before the race, so I did no-contact behind-the-scenes volunteering in exchange for a deferral to next year. Have a different 50 on the books for August. 👍
As someone who thought 100 miles was my limit, you have inspired me to push myself further and further. Can’t wait to someday toe the line at this race!
We are all incredibly capable! And usually we can do far more than we think we can. That’s why ultras are such a mental game. To push through is a decision. The emotional rollercoaster gets really powerful when you’ve been out there for three days.
Man that moment with your mom at the finish broke me. How awesome to have her there on FaceTime to share the moment! Such a visceral response to all you accomplished. Cocodona is definitely on my bucket list of races
Right on, I like that that connected for you. My parents have always been so supportive; they have attended every race where I hit a new distance. They were at first 50K (they surprised me at finish), at first 50M, first 100K, first 100M, at Moab 240 the first time, and at Cocodona 250 the first time. I’m lucky to have all those memories to cherish.
Wes thank you so much for taking us on this journey with you again. A fantastic film that captures the vibe of an event like this better than any I've seen.
Thank you so much for sharing the experience, Wes! So impressive, what an achievement! 💪🏼💥 I cannot imagine… Just in case one struggles in seeing any purpose in all this: I am 47, running for some months now, and you alongside all the other Ultra Runners motivate me immensely, and I am sure this is true for so many others. When things are about to get rough on my runs, I think about all the Ultra Runners out there. I think of you, Wes, and if you can do that(!), running for 96 hours, 250 miles, I can do my 5K run! And so I do. When my legs hurt, I think, this is nothing compared to the pain you have, so I push through! You show me what a human body can do after hard work, training, pain, and dedication. So I can achieve my tiny 5K-ish goals three times a week with my human body. And I do! 💪🏼 Thank you for keeping me moving, keeping me running, and pushing my own limits. I am so grateful for this. I cheer you on from Germany! 👏🏼
Thank you for this thoughtful note! I’m so happy that my experiences help you find motivation. I love sharing this sport with others, it has given me so much.
I ran my first 10K run today! 🎉 In heavy rain, I was soaked through and through, and happy! 🌧️💦 This was my goal to achieve before the year ends and I am so glad. Over the past months I ran during snow, rain, in the dark,… I think I made it, running is part of my life now! I am looking forward to every run, and I am sad about every time I can not go. I am so grateful and hope to stay healthy to enjoy many more runs! 💪🏼 Thank for being a huge inspiration!
Dude, this video is a work of art. What an incredible journey! Thank you for inspiring so many runners (myself included) to keep pushing themselves beyond what they thought possible. Hope to see you again at another race! 👊🏻
Absolutely amazing! I didnt even know there was races this big! I am beyond inspired to train and see how far my body and mind can go. Thank you from Ottawa, Canada
Amazing video of a great adventure Wes! Brings back so many memories and feeling. It was awesome to share some miles with you! Thanks for taking the time and putting in all the work to share this, greatly appreciated! 🙌🏼🙌🏼💪🏼💪🏼❤❤ #82
Was waiting for this one! Congrats Wes. Was a blast sharing a few special moments out there with you. Thanks for taking all the time to put this together and sharing it with the world. -Kevin
Thanks for pulling me into Munds Park with you, and it was awesome getting to see you a few times the next day. It was great to meet you. Congrats on your strong finish!
I hope you do! I ran my first ultra when I was 42, I turn 50 next month. Longer distances are great for us grown ups, the toughness needed to survive life is an asset when faced with ultramarathon challenges. Please come volunteer at a race like this (even this one!!), you'll have an amazing experience!
Thank you wes ,all the way from NC,I couldn't have made it through my struggles in life without you! I know this is true! Thanks for being the voice of reason so many times.
Right on Justin. 🙌🏼 Life isn't easy, and while the difficulties of an ultra can't compare, I do sometimes take lessons from the trail to apply to the challenges of dealing with reality. Sometimes its just progressing one small step at a time. Onward!
Great job Wes...well done...always love your honesty, your warts and all content...thank you for blessing so many by taking us on your adventures...keep on keeping on...
Thanks for that, Wes. It's a pleasure to go along for the ride. And what a ride!! May your feet continue to carry you far and wide for adventures large and small. I'm psyched all over again to dive into Cocodona next year - I'll be able to use my 200+ mantra "Be the Wes. Be the Wes." 🙂
This was really inspiring! Watching all the way from Australia, you did awesome & thanks for taking me on this adventure I only dream of doing one day! 💪
Thank you for doing the race videos, especially your Oregon 200 vid. They're an excellent way to show family members about my races and what they're like. I intend to run Coco '24 and will surely be at Oregon 200 again. See you at the next one.
Such a touching moment 45:40 when your fiance snuggles to warm you up. She's a keeper! Great film! Loved the struggles, tears, and scenery. I felt it when you hobbled. So inspiring! Thanks!
I love that you didn't shy away from sharing the raw, vulnerable moments. Keep up the good work! I'm hoping to tackle this one within the next year or two :D
This video was extremely well done. I live in UK and have visited Arizona about three times but that was a long time ago, last time in 2009 I think. This video makes me want to get back to South West USA! I now run and did my first 50 mile race two weeks ago. Will try a self supported 100km later this year (2024) with two organised 100 mile races in 2025. I'm really motivated by this video! I felt invested as you brought me along on your epic journey. Thanks 🙏
Your videos are awesome. Always look forward to them not just as a great recap of the race and your journey, but they motivate all of us. Keep hammering
I was hoping for another film Wes, and this one did not disappoint! What an epic journey, congratulations on completing it and in a very respectable time too, way up the leaderboard. As always, you show the highs and lows of ultra running so well and I loved that you shared the journey with your family, who were an amazing support crew. I love seeing the American landscape too, so very different to here in England, its very inspirational. Rest well now and thanks again
I always get excited when I see a new Wes Plate video is posted! Such a well done film of an epic adventure and hard fought finish!! Congratulations and thanks so much for sharing!
Just found the link to your video somewhere on facebook and watched the whole video. Congratulation Wes and thank you for taking the energy and time on and off the trail for this movie. Cheers from germany.
Another amazing video and race again Wes. I have watched the live feed 3 years now, and the number of other people that also watch out for you is awesome to see. I definitely need to come volunteer for one of these races sometime. Good luck on the inaugural Oregon 200!
Hi Anne! Thank you for watching, this video as well as the live streams! And. please volunteer! You would have so much fun! If not at Cocodona, we could use your help at the end of June at our new 100 miler in Montana.
Beautiful Mr. Plate! You inspire so many of us! I just finished my first 200 miler here in Finland in July. Big goal is to participate Cocodona 250 one year. Been following you a few years. Thanks for being you! Keep up the good work, thank you. Regards Kaj
It's been around 100° here in KCMO with 60-90% humidity, big change from the PNW. You got me through another boring treadmill workout. Great job man, thanks for sharing another epic race with us.
Beautiful video and thanks for making it. Just finished listening to your appearance on the Distance to Empty podcast and I think your vision of having more live footage out in remote parts of the trail is near. 😎 Hope to see you out on the trail one day. 🤘
Thank you for sharing your real journey.. I still have not had the gits to do an ultra trail run bit little by little stories like you fill me up with what I need to finally commit! I think it's my personal next challenge after I'm done with Ironmans Amazing effort and determination! Thank you!
I hope you’re able to try an ultra. The level of difficulty and suffering can be high, but that’s what draws out your strength! Thank you for watching the channel!
WOW - another amazing adventure Wes!!!! Thanks so much for sharing it again with the world and also for sharing those vulnerable & beautiful moments with your crew. Really looking forward to catch you at another race =0) Keep inspiring!!!
Thank you, thank you very much to share with us another great Adventure. 🙏 I was there (in Italy I was working) when you shared your low down moment on Instagram, that was Moment I realize how much we "normal" runners loves you Wes. ❤️🥰 Thank you for the inspiration and the love you put into this video. 🍻🙏 See you on your next Adventure! Love from Italy 🇮🇹❤️ and of course, congratulations for your third Cocodona!! Wow!!! 🥳🍻
@@wplate my pleasure Wes!! And last, but not less important, it's so cool see the love of your family around you in your race! ❤️ I was crying to see your wife beside you in the van for sleep together and give to you her support. 🙏🥰 A great hug from Italy! 🇮🇹🤟 And now? Next race?
Dude this is amazing, Wes! It was an honor and a pleasure to meet you this year. This video gave me chills several times. You're a master of capturing the emotional volatility and range of this race.
Another great video, as usual! Congratulations, you had an amazing race plus met your goal time! And congrats to your support team and all that they did for you. ❤
Amazing!! I love seeing you every single year challenge yourself, especially with this race. It’s so inspirational, and would love to get to an ultra level one day 🙏
Anyone who wants to can do these things. It takes a lot of work but most of us out there are regular people who train hard. Hope to see you out there some time.
One of my favorite sections, and really my only good day of running, was running down Mingus and into Jerome on day 3. After that I resumed my death march until I was pulled in Sedona for time.
I would like to do better on that Mingus to Jerome section. The part until the highway crossing I don't mind, but that rocky jeep road on the other side stole my joy. Have any suggestions for that part?
Wes, what another epic adventure ! Third time Cocodona finisher : bravo bravo bravo. All your videos are so inspiring, i particulary appreciate the sound design, the selection of songs. I remember you're a pro video editor ? Am i wrong ? A huge thank you from France for all what you do 👏👏
Thank you! I try to do a pass of just listening to the edit. I’m happy you appreciate the effort. I started my career editing commercials. Now I design software, mostly tools for video editing. 🙌🏼 I love that this channel gives me opportunities to edit and enjoy all the related experiences. Is hard work but I enjoy it.
Another wonderful, inspiring video and I've watched them all. Thank you Wes. Someday, it would be interesting for the end of the race to be the start of the video where you show us what the next 7 days (or whatever) of recovery is like. I think it would be really compelling. Do you sleep 20 hours, eat a ton, can you walk after to you wake up? I can't help but think there is more to your story than the finish line. :)
I hope you do get there! The Sedona Canyons 125 is a good one to consider too, you get the more beautiful half of the course and a lot of time to finish. Thanks for watching.
Thank you! I don't really think much about mountain lions or bears, I know they're out there but I also know they generally don't want anything to do with me. I've seen a mountain lion two times, the first time it didn't see me, the second time it did so we kept on eye on the path behind us to be sure it didn't chase (we also didn't run away from it). Near the end of Oregon 200 I heard sounds of a mountain lion, then a moment later found really fresh scat on the trail, so fresh I could smell it. During our Wonderland trail run, we came around a corner and I saw a bear running off into the woods, it was scared of us and ran away.
Another excellent video! Great balance of detail and overview/context of the whole event. What software do you use for the flyovers and map overlays? Thanks!
Thank you! 🙌🏼 The flyovers are animated in Google Earth Studio, and the text labels are added in Adobe After Effects. The map overlays I make in Photoshop. I’ve found PS’s Generate Image Assets feature very helpful. I edit using Final Cut Pro. Another tip you didn’t ask for: sometimes I re-edit music to fit myself, but for this I use a lot of Mofi mofi.loud.red/
That's the Zygos 4.0, my favorite. The 5.0 didn't work for me very well (though I did try it for my birthday run this year ruclips.net/video/oi4H7SBbTaA/видео.html )
Garmin Enduro 2 as the main watch, Garmin Enduro 1 as a backup. I used to care if they could last on a single charge through an entire 200, but I no longer care about that. I will nap during a 200 and I don't mind charging watches while I sleep.
I love how you allow yourself to be vulnerable in these videos, and show the tender moments with your partner - not just the big 'I made it' highs. It shows what it really takes to make it through such an event.
Wait, could I be experiencing big ‘I made it’ highs?? 😂
I enjoy sharing it like it happens, thanks for appreciating. 🙌🏼🤩
I love the support network you have around you. Their support is next level the entire time.
I'm so blessed. Their support is amazing.
I downloaded your video so that I may listen to it while l’m walking in the morning. I’m old and can’t run. Thank you for your video.

Thanks so much!
Dude this is amazing, Wes! It was an honor and a pleasure to meet you this year. This video gave me chills several times. You're a master of capturing the emotional volatility and range of this race.
Thank you Chris! It was a thrill to meet you in person finally!
Congrats on your 3rd finish Wes! Amazing video as always z

Awesome! Thanks for watching, I’m happy you enjoyed it. 🙌🏼
so awesome, thanks Wes!
I'm glad you still enjoy the videos after multiple viewings!
Amazing!! I love seeing you every single year challenge yourself, especially with this race. It’s so inspirational, and would love to get to an ultra level one day 🙏
Anyone who wants to can do these things. It takes a lot of work but most of us out there are regular people who train hard. Hope to see you out there some time.
Absolutely amazing 🎉
Thank you for watching!
Another awesome video, thanks Wes!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing video! Congrats brother
Glad you liked it!
Finally! Yay!
I'm excited for you to see it!
All the feels: KEEP GOING!
Thank you for watching!
Another awesome video Wes! I'm planning to be there in 2024 :)
Awesome, Chad, I am so happy you're going to tackle this one! I hope to see you there!
I love that this channel gives me opportunities to edit and enjoy all the related experiences. Is hard work but I enjoy it.
Can believe you don't have more subscribers so many memories and no one subscribe.
Hidden gem.
Love your content.
Thank you! 🙌🏼
Amazing!
Thanks!
Good idea for a video, it might surprise you how not-special my recovery is. I’m happy you’re enjoying my videos!
Amazing!
Thank you for watching!
I’ve been looking forward to this video for 3 months. I’d love to get out there one day.
I hope you do get there! The Sedona Canyons 125 is a good one to consider too, you get the more beautiful half of the course and a lot of time to finish. Thanks for watching.
Muchas Gracias for sharing such a journey, without knowing, eres una inspiración! #stayhard #callusyourmind 🙏 💪
Thank you for watching, I enjoy sharing these adventures.
Awesome...keep going
I'm keeping going-- Cocodona 2024 here we come!

Thank you for always commenting on my videos! I appreciate your support of the channel.
Hi, this was another great accomplishment! I am curious how do you deal with the thought of maybe encountering a bear or mountain lion?
Thanks!
Thank you! 🙌🏼
The flyovers are animated in Google Earth Studio, and the text labels are added in Adobe After Effects.
Thanks, this is great! Much appreciated. @@wplate
Longest I’ve run is a 21k. This is awesome. I’d like to be able to do this one day.
It is possible if you want it! Thanks for watching!
What's the Ultraspire model of the running vest you are using?
That's the Zygos 4.0, my favorite. The 5.0 didn't work for me very well (though I did try it for my birthday run this year ruclips.net/video/oi4H7SBbTaA/видео.html )
Wes, what kind of watch do you use during long races? Can the battery sustain it?
Garmin Enduro 2 as the main watch, Garmin Enduro 1 as a backup. I used to care if they could last on a single charge through an entire 200, but I no longer care about that. I will nap during a 200 and I don't mind charging watches while I sleep.
CAn I ask, what was your run/walk time break down? Would love to run this race, trying to figure out strategies... Did you sleep at all?
According to connect.garmin.com, 16:25:30 Run Time, 54:58:17 Walk Time, 24:24:36 Idle Time
I slept approximately a total of 6 hours.
Do some people do Cocodona without any personal crew, just using what the race provides and drop bags? What percentage?
Yes quite a few run races like this solo.

It was an honor to meet her!
