Why do you need USB interface...if you connecting from USB/mixer? Can't you use the same cable you use for charging the iPad? One end has USB...the other has Lighting?
Wow i like this. Please help me. I have an old model standard mixer. How can i connect it to my tab? Is there an app to install in my tab? If so, what's the name if the app. Much thanks
Nice video! I use power tools. By connecting the USB directly from the mixer into the computer, will it give me individual tracks on protools ? So if I use 3 channels on the mixer, will it show up as 3 individual tracks on protools, or just 1 overall track?
Hi there, brilliant video! I have all the same gear you have here. Can I use this method to record videos using the mixer audio instead of the iPad inbuilt mics? Thanks, Kris
Hi, great video, covers many options, clear and concise. Quick question, hope you have an answer: I use a Dynacord Powermate 600 mixing desk that has ability to set up a monitor/foldback system for the band to hear themselves during gig. The mixing desk has individual monitor levels for each channel (eg, vocals can be set louder, or keys can be louder, or guitar etc, etc) and my question deals with these monitor levels. If I were to set all monitor channels to zero, apart from 1 of the mics, can I record that INDIVIDUAL channel, from the desk, into an iPhone? For your information: we DON'T utilise the monitor system when we gig, we're really not that loud, and it's therefore redundant. However one of our singers is singing out of key (yes, really) and it would help if I could isolate that singer's channel and record it to my iPhone... My plan is to record ONLY that singer's channel by having all monitor channels at zero but with this channel turned up and output to the iPhone. Can I do this? I use an iPhone 5S. Cheers!
Hi great video. Regarding using a mixer with a usb on number 3 method . Which mixer would you recommend. And would you be able to Dj with iPad on its apps with the mixer and that way of connecting. Also could you recommend the best mixer that has XLR outputs for active speakers and a Mike input. Many thanks
I have a Lighting to HDMI cable running from my iPAD to my ATEM Mini Pro switcher into HDMI 1 port. 1/8" from MIC-1 on switcher to RCA into my Yamaha MG10XU but no audio. Any help is appreciated.
Hi Jordan. Great video. You explained it well. A very good solution that I’m going to try. Here’s my question, I need to do one more step. I want to be able to. Play my keyboard through the mixer with vocals and have that go into the live conversation. The problem is at 44.1 kHz the phone lines can’t handle it and cut the music up so I want to be able to export it out down sample to 8 kHz so the people on a group conference call can enjoy a couple of worship songs Can you show how to do that? I’m not really a sound guy I have some idea. I think I probably need to use some type of Daws software. I’m looking at Reaper. Any help you can provide here would be very much appreciated.
The Mackie ProFX v3 series of mixers have a 3.5mm stereo line level input. And Apple makes a direct lightening to 3.5mm cable... and a lightening to 3.5mm adapter. It's a very simple way to connect iphones and ipads to a mixer. Probably android phones and tablets have cables and adaptors too. So look for a mixer that has a 3.5mm input.
What a great video! Thank you. I have the same mixer you do. I have an ipad...not sure if it's a standard ipad or not....how would I know? It would appear I only need the connector wires USB audio mixer chord and the white plug from ipad.
Great video! I'm trying to hook my audio interface to my mixer (already have the iPad connected to the powered hub and audio interface). My issue is when I plug my line in to a channel line in on the mixer, I'm getting no sound of my monitors. Any ideas?
Question about the USB Audio, do you have to have the adapter or why wouldn’t plugging the regular charging cable from the iPad into that usb port work without adapter?
I have my main out connected straight into my Ipad, but it isn't picking up my mixer audio, it's still using the default microphone and I'm getting frustrated
What about for multitrack to iPad or logic or garage band on computer? All of these methods will only get the stereo left and right if anything, right?
Nice video, I have the exactly same Yamaha mixer and the adapter for iPad. I connected everything but i can’t record my piano on garage band. Although the piano is connected to the mixer :( what can I do to solve the problem?
You can simultaneously use the stereo xlr outputs and the stereo 1/4 outputs , or a monitor mix. Depends on the mixer but in my experience most of them have multiple stereo outputs
I’d like to see the usb-c adapter used with the 2020 iPad Pro to connect to the usb mixer. Everywhere I’ve looked on line, including Apple forums, people are saying it doesn’t work.

I’ve been trying to connect my Yamaha mixer to my iPhone to run sound from my mixer to my iPhone for google meets meetings. I’m using the usb cable from the mixer to the usb adaptor for the iPhone. My phone doesn’t seem to pick up the connection to the mixer and I’m not sure how to switch it. There was a couple of times where I seen the name of the Yamaha mixer pop up instead of showing “speaker” or “receiver” but it never sticks. Would you be able to help me out with that? I’m trying to run virtual fitness classes using google meets and have the sound from my mixer go directly into my iPhone where the virtual classes are taking place. Any help/advice you can provide is greatly appreciated.
the whole point i want to do this is because i already have an oldish mixer. basically, i record with midi instruments in garage band, on my iphone. i bought a microphone, but it needs phantom power to be any good. i can run the microphone to the mixer and use phantom power there, and then run it from the mixer to to my iphone. i haven’t tried yet. but hoping it works
I have a mixing board that has the USB that I use to record from one of my Ipads. However, I have a second Ipad lightning connector that I want music to play through simultaneously with the USB record on the 1st Ipad. I have the lightning adapter for power/audio(?). I want to insert that into an white/red input (once I buy the cable). Since I won't be using it to record, do I need to buy a sound card? I'm going to play music through the Second Ipad, while the first Ipad video records.
Hi, very helpful video, i have a question, is there a way to record guitar first and then record voice and hear it in the mixer. i've recorded guitar and when i do another track with the mic, i don't hear my first track on garageband. thanks

I actually have a MG12XU so the USB channel is slightly different. I just can't quite get the principle. I think it may just that I have a switch in the wrong position?? Would love any pointers you may have. Thanks.
Hi! Thank you very much for the video! I have a doubt, if I connect via option 3 (USB Audio Mixing Console), would Garageband pick up the different channels or mix everything that's connected on the mixer to a single track? Thanks in advance!

So I am using a USB-C dongle to RCA out of my iPad. I find when I start the songs they skip the first second of the song I’m assuming on the transfer. Do you think if I use the USB-C to USB 3.0 dongle then USB 3.0 USB 2.0 cable link in the back of the Mixer it would solve that problem?

Hi, could you please tell me what would happen if you connect your iPad to Mixer by using a lead that has a single round pin that goes into your iPad and an RCA connector which plugs into Mixer? Thank you.
I think if you connect it the first way, you will lose part of the signal. The Jack-Usb audio card accepts mono input , but you are sending stereo output from the mixer. I think you should just pan everything to the left and use one output.

Did you find any solution? I have my main out connected straight into my Ipad, but it isn't picking up my mixer audio, it's still using the default microphone and I'm getting frustrated
Looks as if you might have just solved an issue I've ben searching all over the place for. You wouldn't happen to know if the app Voice Recorder Pro would work in the same way as you're demonstrating Garageband, would you ? I'm looking for a one touch option that lets you record / monitor and share a recording as simple as possible for an older gent who has little to no audio recording exerience. Any comments more than welcome at this point :)
Thanks for the awesome content! How would you attach a mackie mixer with 2 mics (Shure sm7b and Senn g3) directly into a 3.5mm dslr input? Which cables are needed? Thanks again!
You could probably use a XLR > 3.5mm cable. It will be unbalanced, so don't get a cable longer than 10'. Most people eventually end up getting a zoom recorder and connecting it to the Mackie. Record it all separately then sync the audio after the fact.
I think I'm going about this all wrong. I have a Roland GO:Mixer Pro and I bought a cheap iPad 2 just for this since my Android S7 in incompatible. Now, I see the iPad 2 doesn't have a USB. I have a 2013 Macbook Pro, and I don't know how to use any of this. Thanks in advance. - Mike
Okay now where are the studio monitor speakers connected to? I currently have an older Peavey analog mixer with the monitors connected to the mixer. Do I need to move the speakers to the audio interface or can I use the aux out on the mixer?
I was thinking about getting an iPad in order to record my band via GarageBand. Question - also, for live performance, can we trigger sounds/loops and/or use the effects for vocals -- so it's hooked up to our mixers and the sound comes out our PAs (like our mics, guitars, drums, normally would)? Is an iPad a useful tool for a live band performance? Thanks...
I’ve been trying to run via usb into my iPhone. The mixer I’m using is a Soundcraft signature 12. I’m running turntables and 2 mics into the mixer and then usb 2 into my camera adapter for the iPhone. My signal is SUPER low, and it takes a lot to even hear a tiny bit of the signal coming from my turntables. But I can hear the mics, albeit the a quiet signal from them. Everything is very low. How do I increase the input or the sensitivity of the iPhone receiving. signal?
Check the level and gain adjustments in one of Kettner's videos. You must get to 0dB on your peak measurement. If a few or no green leds are lit you won't hear the mixer out.
Yes. I have recorded video on my Samsung Galaxy and as soon as I plug in the USB from the mixer it recognizes audio from that source. So you get video from your phone camera, audio from the mixer out.
So which of these 4 solutions gives you a stereo signal going from mixer to your device. I need to livestream on IG with turntable audio and mic inputs that are sent into a mixer. The the Yamaha mg06x I think. If I use an interface, all I have to work with is a Scarlett solo 3rd So which solutions are stereo signal? If the signal is mono, you just have to pan all your channels up the center right?
I don’t get any audio when iPad Pro is connected to mixer via usb and I’m trying to playback a multitrack recording I’ve done. But when I disconnect usb cable iPad loudspeaker I get audio from loudspeaker. Pls any help?
@@thetoolmat8632 tried that. Even with headphones connected to the mixer or outputting to speakers no audio. But Pete says it could be that the mixer isn’t class compliant. Cos it’s able to do a multitrack recording from the mixer into the iPad. It’s just playback via usb that has no output.
That's right. You can monitor the sound going in and coming out. The Mackie ProFX ( currentprice.io/profx10v3 ) does this the best because it has a blend knob so you can blend your monitoring between the mixer and the iPad.
@@kettnercreative im not talking about monitoring the sound frkm the mixer i mean can you hear what the other people on clubhouse hear through the ipad
I'm planning on buying this mixer to record voice and guitar straight to my phone. Is it possible ? I have an Xiaomi Mi9 with the same white adapter (Type C/USB ) you showed on the Ipad video. I'm wondering if the sound of the mixer will be recognized when start recording the video...
Absolutely brilliant demo. No music, no BS, just info. Thankyou.
I’ve been looking for hours trying to find how to connect my mixer recorder to iPad! Thanks 👍🏼

I have fallows your instructions and I have a Macklemore viz pro going into my I Pad pro with the sound card. I d not get any sound from my mic jack on the mixer. Any advice ?
Did you find any solution? I have my main out connected straight into my Ipad, but it isn't picking up my mixer audio, it's still using the default microphone and I'm getting frustrated
Looks as if you might have just solved an issue I've ben searching all over the place for.
You wouldn't happen to know if the app Voice Recorder Pro would work in the same way as you're demonstrating Garageband, would you ?
I'm looking for a one touch option that lets you record / monitor and share a recording as simple as possible for an older gent who has little to no audio recording exerience.
Any comments more than welcome at this point :)
I believe it should.
I have the MG102c as you showed. I can’t get much mic or guitar output into GarageBand. Gain all the way up, everything hooked up properly. Thoughts?
No idea. Hard to say without seeing your setup.
After doing this iphone camera is not recording sound when making video
Nice!
So i cant use my mackie pro8fx into a usb connect and youse thouse mackie mixersapps? and youse my ipad in live performing like a controler?
Thank u
Thank You!.........
You're welcome!
Studio monitor speakers should be connected to the monitor outputs on the Yamaha MG10XU.
Thanks...
Nope. Connecting ipads to mixers is a fucking nightmare and will not work for anything.
How would I use an iPad for effects?
Why do I need a mixer if I already have the USB audio interface?
So I can play stereo piano and go straight into my iphone video camera from a USB mixer?
Without needing additional audio interface ?
If I use an interface, all I have to work with is a Scarlett solo 3rd
So which solutions are stereo signal? If the signal is mono, you just have to pan all your channels up the center right?
Connecting to the iPad with a USB cable is the best way to get stereo.
@@kettnercreative same for iPhone too obviously right? Do you have any apps you like for checking the levels of the mixer going into the iPhone ?
@@itsmickeyyoung Not that I've tried.
Lol if u had the iPad on the charger u would not need a powered hub but everything else checks out
I don’t get any audio when iPad Pro is connected to mixer via usb and I’m trying to playback a multitrack recording I’ve done. But when I disconnect usb cable iPad loudspeaker I get audio from loudspeaker. Pls any help?
are you using headphones connected to the interface or mixing board?
@@thetoolmat8632 tried that. Even with headphones connected to the mixer or outputting to speakers no audio. But Pete says it could be that the mixer isn’t class compliant. Cos it’s able to do a multitrack recording from the mixer into the iPad. It’s just playback via usb that has no output.
With the usb mixer option i can monitor the sound going in and coming out of the ipad?
It should work. I've only tested it on an iPhone though.
Did it work for you? Thinking about getting a 8 Chan mixer to with a 8 Chan Audio Interface to match.
Yes, I use a Galaxy Note 10 camera for video, plug the USB C out from mixer and I get audio+video on the phone recording.
