    I think a lot of people think they are just ceremonial and not “real” soldiers, I saw a comment once that they couldn’t hurt a fly and their guns were just for show, people from other countries don’t realise that they are highly trained soldiers

    Boi at 3:05 when the guard nearly fell and those women laughed at them, I actually felt like buying a ticket to London to slap them. Marching is already difficult enough. Plus the Royal Guards have to Stand up Straight in any weather for 10+ hours. Plus there are literally puddles on the ground, so YES it is slippery. Mad Props on not falling on his face like I would have in that situation. He handled it like a boss.

      You are correct there are women guards which is not limited to the band's and in regards to Mr Griffiths you don't even notice them in fact you can't even tell (unless you are "know" military.

    Being in the armed services of any country is something to be proud off, respect discipline and a unique sense of pride! And I'd be proud standing there and watching this. The bands are excellent, the ta ra ra makes you stand six inches in your collar, proud to have armed services like these.

    I love people that think a misstep in slow time is funny (try it yourself with full kit) but what the silly person didn't realise is that soldier did exactly what he is supposed to keep going don't make an issue even when some hyena was laughing at you! these are very professional soldiers that deserve respect so shut your gob and appreciate that level of professionalism. A soldier would appreciate how easily you can get out of step or trip while swinging arms with a weapon shouldered or drawn sword, send him a beer for putting on a show for you or say thank you next day of remembrance.....god people disrespect our service people and veterans makes me angry. IF you want a laugh hyena should have watched us in recruits marching to breakfast you would have seen change steps, trips and such but dont laugh at a professional soldier jerk!!

    What is so funny about a Soldier slipping it really funny I get it that sometimes when we see someone slip it is a bit funny but you do know Soldiers boots have a metal plate underneath and when they walk on Cobblestone they will lose their footing and when my dad was in the army he slipped on Cobblestone but he managed to Stop himself from falling to floor

    I was here on Christmas Eve years ago. It was absolutely magical. Wonderful concert of Christmas music and all of the very British pomp and ceremony one could wish for. Top of my list of best travel experiences. Brilliant! Extraordinary! Cheers and Merry Christmas to the Queen, her family and our friends in GB!

      Thanks! I have been - several times since that Changing of the Guard experience. My sister is handicapped and uses a mobility scooter - we had the most wonderful experience visiting the Queen’s Gallery, then touring The Buck. They let her tootle all around both on her scooter. I was a complete wreck. She’s a wild thing on that scooter. I mean - what could possibly go wrong?!? Right? We actually came face-to-face with the Princess Royal as she was stepping out a door and into her chauffeured car! I didn’t know what else to do, so I, an American, popped a pretty respectable curtesy! She smiled and waved. We still can’t believe that really happened!

    The amazing thing is that the other half of their life is serving on the front lines as regular infantry, laughing at them slipping on a slippery surface is nothing but disrespectful. Some of them have seen things you can't even imagine and they just stand there getting mocked when on guard duty.

    The Coldstream Guards slow March was written for them by Mozart when he was about 12, and was staying at St James's Palace.

      The version of the story that I had from a Guards publication was that it was written by Mozart as a child, while staying at St James's Palace. He gave a copy to the Band Master of the Coldstream Guards and they have played it ever since.
      Many years later, When Figaro opened in London, people recognised the march as that which the Coldstream Guards played.

    3:06 I hate when people laugh at events like this, as if it was very easy to march in a coordinated way and with a slippery floor, they lack a lot of judgment and should admire their work as royal guards with respect and pride and not with laughter at almost falling.
    I also include the minute 4:03 as if coughing was an act that none of those people do, why are they laughing, I do not understand, better be quiet and observe how wonderful the guards are.

    My father enlisted in the Grenadier Guards in Nov 1939 & was demobbed in May1946. He was very proud of have been a Guardsman, I used to watch with amusement on the occasions when he met by chance another of his kind also wearing the Brigade of Guards or Regimental ties, which was usually how they knew each other. No matter about differences in age or background, it was like some sort of secret society from which we mere mortals were excluded.

      That happened to my father in law, someone came up to him, shook his hand and started going on about the regiment, he's going "what are you on about", and the bloke says "regimental tie" and my father in law goes "this? I got it from M&S!" My, how we laughed...he's the last person you'd expect to have been in the forces. And he wasn't.

    The English have more dignity in a simple changing guards ( if there is anything like a simple changing guard ), then the German in a great Zapfenstreich. I say this as a German. Though the Bundeswehr has very good musicians too, the English manage to walk to Mozart and appear as professional soldiers. The only advance the Bundeswehr has to the English army is, that they grew a lot more peacefull after ww2.

      Perhaps if they were more keen on that than on being peaceful, their ceremonies might be considerably better. As for the Großer Zapfenstreich, the torchlit aspect of the ceremony is beautiful. And no one writes marches better than the Germans. Mozart, after all, was Austrian German…

      First set is "Figaro" for the slow march and "Washington Grays" for the quick march. The second set, I have no idea.

      You mean from the opera The Marriage of Figaro dated early1700s. It is a great slow march. The lines are always just that bit straighter when that one plays.

      They're just their winter dress, they're the same if not identical across most of the British Army, so you can probably find surplus ones online.

    I was in army cadets in Toronto while in high school. Those army boots are hell when it's wet. Easy to slip.

      Rob Tro You are correct and worse in winter. The soles would harden and become very slippery. But you know the boots have been improved for Canadian cadets.

    The Lifeguards are the most senior Regiment in the British Army. They are fully trained soldiers and go into armed vehicles when not on public duty, they are NOT TOY SOLDIERS , they are very BRAVE soldiers.

    Do you want to know how hard its to march and stay in time I know cuse I'm the 4th dunfermline Abey company in Scotland and we march to the wwII memorial in the morning at below freezing temperatures and at any time we can collapse faint or slip on the brick road

      @@Bruno-tm3xo tho to be fair they never got shot at, shooting them is unhounourable back then even if the drummer were 16 or 18 they still wouldn't have gotten shot at maybe collateral but for the most part they were safe. though it must've been a terrible experience.
