I am a 72 year old man, retired to Florida, weeping as I watch this reminder of all the wonderful afternoons I've spent in the Shoe. Every one of them started with this. RIP Mom , Dad and Grandpa. Wasn't this Ohio life beautiful?
Weep all you want!! It's a beautiful moment when you see these amazing, talented kids!! It brings me to tears when I think that could be me if not for mother not letting me learn how to play the trumpet.
Remember the lyrics from the Ohio State Song, "Beautiful Ohio, in dreams again I see, visions of what used to be." I think many of us with a connection to the state of Ohio feel exactly that way.
So as of this date 4/23 I am 78, lived a few blocks from the WOSU tower, and growing up delivered the newspaper along Star. I could look and see the stadium everyday. I graduated from OSU 1967 went tnto the Air Force and ended up in CA got out remained in CA had a career and now am in rural OR. I love to look at this and other videos of the OSU Marching Band my emotions are joy and pride in being there growing up 22 yrs - I just smile through out these videos. It is so long ago now but I have always been a Buckeye though I have not lived in Ohio for 56 yres - I am always a Buckeye. Thanks Central Ohio for such a great place to grow up and to be so proud of you all! What a privilege it was to be born there and raised there thanks mom! I am just smiling now as the Band begins the Script Ohio! Okay so the script Ohio is complete and I am weeping for the nostalgia of it all, What a marvelous heritage it is for me!
Most people watching these bands have no idea of the insane amount of practice that goes on to pull this off. They make it look easy. Awesome job ladies and gentlemen !
For sure. There was a moment when part of the back line's marching was off and 95% of them adjusted to being off beat to create uniformity before fixing it. That takes serious skill. In marching band, uniformity always trumps being "correct". All throughout high school marching band, that was something I struggled with but they do it effortlessly.
You are so right. I was band parent president for two years. All the long hours in all kinds of weather ! Trips no sleep, fund raisers ! I could go on and on!!
Script Ohio never, ever gets old! Amazing watching the little elements of showmanship from each member, and how they march through each other’s lines without missing a beat. And the timing has to be impeccable! How do they stay together? They’re marching in different directions, not hearing the sound as they would if they were inside, and they’re sometimes marching with their backs to the three directors on the sidelines. Yet, they still sound like a cohesive unit. Simply amazing.
Love it when that special person is taken over to dot the I....Makes this Buckeye tear up. Two brothers graduated from there and my SIL was a professor. She recently retired cuz the school is just too woke.

American marching bands have visited Ireland for Saint Patrick's Day for years and I've always admired them especially as a child. One of the greatest experiences of life is surely the loyalty and attachment to one's college. But the Ohio State marching band is a tradition--indeed a phenomenon--that transcends Ohio. It is truly a national treasure.
I was in band until I graduated from college. Unless you've marched, you will NEVER believe how complicated and difficult this show is. And if it reused through the season, that makes it more awesome, as the band has to learn new halftime shows and keep this entry sharp!

@@johnclemash2544 They are good, too, but I'm going on results of polls conducted by sports reports like ESPN, Fox Sports, etc. Texas A&M is also good.
When satellite TV first came into being, you saw the entire half-time show. No commercials! That's what you paid for, to see TV without all the garbage. To bad we have to listen to people tell us what we just saw, what each team did and didn't do right, and yada, yada, yada!
It's too bad we didn't get to see IU's marching band in this video. Our football team might have gotten their asses kicked (I'm assuming. Don't remember 2011 but I assume OSU handed it to us with little effort) but it would be a different story if it was a battle of the bands. The Marching Hundred is freaking amazing. I don't want to say OSU's band sucks or anything like that, because they're obviously really good, but the Hundred is on another level. Yes, I may be a little bias, but I'm also right.
At our high school we look up to OSU's band. We have the same marching style, similar uniforms, same fight song, run on, across the field, into the U (for upper Sandusky. It used to be a u and an s but we changed it to a u) hang in sloppy, and every year were invited to play with them but every year it is on the same day as our homecoming ;( we are called ram nation and the best damn ram band in the land. OSU is our idol. One of our trumpet players from the class of 14' is now in the OSU marching band. Go Drew Barth! One of our trombone players from the same class is at Ohio University and we couldn't be more proud! Go Bucks!
Haetalie McDyer I think you mean Ohio State, because Ohio University is the Bobcats. Completely different style of marching, and they are more of a show band than OSU (proud son of a member of the OU Marching 110, the most exciting band in the land!! ‘HIO!!!)
My high school, Princeton High School, in Cincinnati was the same way, modeling ourselves after TBDBITL. Same fight song, Alma Mater, spats, marching 8 x 5, etc.

Ramp entrance is at once stirring and heroic. Gliding onto the battlefield to inspire their team to victory. 🇺🇲. Script OHIO is iconic timeless. Viva la France. 🇨🇵
The music for the SCRIPT is the magnificent French military march "Sambre et Meuse." A brilliant choice! (Full name: "Le Régiment de Sambre et Meuse" typically known as "Sambre et Meuse" for short but, it seems at Ohio State Univ. its typically called "Le Regiment.")
David J Gill the high school I go to does something similar, Script Kent, we play this at the last home game of the season, the stadium lights get shut off, we have glowsticks on our feet, and march to spell Kent in cursive, inspired by The Best Damn Band In The Land ofc!! :)
Yes David... Sambre et Meuse is a french patriotic and military song, written during the terrific defeat of 1870, this song was to prepare the revenge (which happened in 1914-1918). I have served now for more than 25 years in french army (land army then gendarmerie), this song is often used to march at a "défilé" ... but here, they use it at a great speed, so fast... so impressive and great :)
@@jpc7118 Interesting stuff. Sambre et Meuse seems to me to be one of the very best marches in the repertoire for military band. At The Ohio State University they refer to it, oddly, as "Le Régiment."
Never seen such a parade ! From 4:30 to 7:30 the theme is SAMBRE & MEUSE a very famous one used by French air force for parades but very slower than this of Ohio SU played. Thanks for this honor - I'm French !!
My daughter spent 4 years in her high school marching band and 4 years in her college marching band. She went to the Rose Bowl with her college football team two times. Both times she marched over 7 miles in the Rose Bowl parade//non stop as she played her instrument…so yes…the practice is intense!
👩💻My son served a 2 year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Ohio Mission 20 years ago and has been a BIG FAN ever since. Never misses the Ohio/Michigan match-up. He also has a big Ohio State Game Flag 3' by 5' hanging here in Utah and BYU country. Wears the 3 or 4 ball caps, coat, socks, and tie. When I watch the Ohio Marching Band, I feel like I am floating on air. These guys are great and commend their professors and advisors for their hard work. I see why my son loves Ohio so much. 🙋♀️😘😳🤗🥰
From someone who's always put hbcu bands above all, i.e, famu, Bethune, Jackson state, etc....this band by far holds its own, just with formations and uniformity alone. Outstanding.
HBCU bands are great, and I love their style and energy. However, people who try to compare them to TBDBITL do both a disservice - they each define excellence in their own genre, and that is how it should be. It is apples and oranges to rate one against the other.
I played football and you can be assured the players hear this in the locker room and if this doesn’t get you up for the game you must be dead. Much respect
I love your shows, they are so cool! Never seen shows like them! You are amazing, and I love you, bye, have a good time ( said by my 4 and 6 year old sons)❤
I also was in band in high school I enjoyed every minute of it it’s awesome now that technology has moved on since I was in high school anyway a drone shot would be awesome I think it looks really cool thanks
W Parsons record companies pay the NFL for the privilege of the sponsored halftime show. However the first Super Bowl halftime show featured Grambling State University’s Band from Louisiana.
Wowza, that was the most entertaining sporting entertainment epic I gave witnessed in a long long time! This should be featured at the Superbowl...every year...not the nonsense that is passed off as entertainment. The skills, choreography and brilliance of step by step execution ....amazing!
I love these videos. I was a member of the University of Arkansas Razorback Marching Band and I know the amount of practice we put in for each performance. I think we practiced more than the football team!
It doesn't come close to 30 Conn J-22 symphonic tubas, 53 pounds apiece, strapped across the chest of the players, in what is arguably the truly best college marching band in the world, the Jacksonville State University Marching Southerners. Their tubas play more difficult charts than OSU or most other college bands are willing to attempt with their trumpets, and JSU's other horns simply outstrip all comers in musical challenge and sound. ruclips.net/video/HLoimHdaUic/видео.html
Bob in IN especially when you consider that most of the time the band members started when they were little kids in grade school. There so much talent marching around that field that most rock stars or singers couldn't even begin to keep up.
I was in admiration in front of this university show and American marvelous energy from here in France when suddenly at 4'30" I was very surprised to recognize a famous Napoleonic song from the French revolution: Sambre et Meuse! WOOOW! Incredible!?
Great video that brings up a great memory for me...and a story. Marching band entrance & Script Ohio. I actually went to both Indiana University (masters) and The Ohio State University (doctoral music student, not completed). A girlfriend I had said, “We have to get football season tickets.” Me: “What, they have a football team?” Same question at IU, “What, they have a basketball team?” Actually, Bobby Knight was the basketball coach in my first IU year, and Woody Hayes was the football coach at OSU (his last year, I believe.) We got the tickets. What is my amazing flashback and memory? The very first time the OSU Marching Band made their entrance, followed by the Script Ohio, I was truly shocked. “They’re wearing our uniforms. The belts, the gloves, the spats. They’re marching like we do (with the hand cross.)” In my senior year in Passaic High School (NJ), our beloved band teacher of many years retired and we had a new band teacher. First thing in marching band season. He bought us new uniforms. He made us march, much more professionally, in a new manner. Of course, as high school seniors, we complained. We did it, but why? Why did we have to learn new things?” We didn’t understand but listened and did it. And YES, our new band teacher was from OSU. I only learned this about a decade later at my first OSU football game. If only we knew. We would have kissed his feet. If only we could see a video like this. Our new band teacher was great and we had a good relationship as we learned new things. A belated thank you to all my band teachers. Mr. Spurr (elem/middle school); Doctor Riggin (high school); Mr. Groom (OSU high school). Names might be slightly off (old memories).
The fans love the tubas because other than the Drum Major, they got an increased applause. Also, coming down the ramp they are so smooth they appear to be on an escalator. Awesome 👍
The sousaphone (not tuba) player gets increased applause because the crowd realizes that four or five years of hard work are about to be paid off by "dotting the i." Did you notice that the "dotter" was female?

@@johnclemash2544 They are good, too, but I'm going on results of polls conducted by sports reports like ESPN, Fox Sports, etc. Texas A&M is also good.

It is truly an honor to be part of this magnificent band. They are simply the best...
Do us proud! O-H!
Violet Gruner thank you for serving.
I hope to join. I was with you guys at the Skull session with the Indiana band. Best day of my life
@@KyleHurd I-O !
They’re just the best I’ve ever seen, as a former drum major; just so remarkable.
I thoroughly enjoyed this!! Now THAT is tradition!! Awesome camera work by the way! GO OSU!!!!!
This seriously kicks ass - hopefully one day get to see them live
Moved to tears! Unexpected. Did Marching Band in McHenry, Ill. So much Fun! Thank you, Mr. Leighty!
Fantastic performance! It is a shame that such little TV time is given to the bands these days. Especially when they are of this caliber.
When satellite TV first came into being, you saw the entire half-time show. No commercials! That's what you paid for, to see TV without all the garbage. To bad we have to listen to people tell us what we just saw, what each team did and didn't do right, and yada, yada, yada!
Sure ! All the stuff of the gogol system !
Long Life to Trump !
Why they don't show this is beyond me. Pro's should have marching bands too!
@@Jaspur775 Drew Carey, one of the Seattle Sounders soccer club owners, said, hey, we need a marching band!.. so now MLS has a marching band...
Haitilene,
I am from Norwalk.
Yes you did have a great
band.

Goosebumps is exactly right! Is what I am experiencing what they call ASMR? Never gets old! God I love Ohio State!!!

Thank you. Great info.
Thank you, mbandfan2, for the great work you do on behalf of Buckeye band nuts. Your work is appreciated!
Oh, yeah! Such a disciplined and inspiring marching group of very skilled musicians. Exciting opening. Do the thing, Ohio State!
Maybe more disciplined and inspiring is Kyoto tachibana high school marching band

OUT STANDING BEST BAND IN THE LAND !! THAT DRUM MAJOR WAS OUT STANDING...💜💜
How in the world he bent backwards?!
Holaa soy Mexicano y me encantó el canto del minuto 7:39 alguien podría decirme dónde lo puedo encontrar completo??❤️
I still get a lump in my throat every time I see this. Makes me feel proud to be an Ohioan.

Awesome Band in the USA
So very honored to watch this. Thank you so much for everything ❤️ 💗 💜 you put into TBDBITL!!!
Love marching band! This takes a lot of hard work and discipline. You don't get this precise without a lot of hours and hours of practice.
Those young folks set the bar when its comes to marching bands. Phenoms.
They are really good, my goodness the presions, cannot imagine the practice it takes for this performance. Congratulations to them.
THE BEST DAM BAND IN THE LAND ...!! GO BUCKS..!

Amazing, wonderful marching band performance congratulations to all participants 🙏
Also loved watching Ohio State Football games with my Dad- we couldn't wait until halftime show!
That is amazing, we were out at Ohio State for the Army game and made a video of the pregame.
Only in America. From the Fiji Islands I hope you dont lose these great, wonderful, beautiful marching band and the lively atmosphere.
I love your shows, they are so cool! Never seen shows like them! You are amazing, and I love you, bye, have a good time ( said by my 4 and 6 year old sons)❤

I'll take this over any Super Bowl halftime show of recent memory.....
I'll take this over any Super Bowl Halftime show that doesn't involve a marching band
Music2Die4 NFL should allow marching bands for halftime.
Why spend a ton of money for performers.Pay the band
Super Bowl Halftime is junk anyway.
Bring back the marching bands and dump money into the schools Music Departments
W Parsons record companies pay the NFL for the privilege of the sponsored halftime show. However the first Super Bowl halftime show featured Grambling State University’s Band from Louisiana.
You can’t beat Katy Perry’s left shark.
Wowza, that was the most entertaining sporting entertainment epic I gave witnessed in a long long time! This should be featured at the Superbowl...every year...not the nonsense that is passed off as entertainment. The skills, choreography and brilliance of step by step execution ....amazing!
That's the pre-game entry
Yea, it would be cool if bands were in the halftime show. Too bad they aren't and even worse, OSU is college football
I agree. They should have a battle bands, for example, Grambling State vs. Ohio State would be good. I’ve seen Grambling Marching Band.

Exactly. I've never seen a display like that. Beautiful.

Inspirationally inspired woooo

I would a hundred times more want to watch a good band half time show than any rock group or singer.
Bob in IN especially when you consider that most of the time the band members started when they were little kids in grade school. There so much talent marching around that field that most rock stars or singers couldn't even begin to keep up.

I am completely obsessed with these guys
I was in admiration in front of this university show and American marvelous energy from here in France when suddenly at 4'30" I was very surprised to recognize a famous Napoleonic song from the French revolution: Sambre et Meuse! WOOOW! Incredible!?
A great band with a great tradition of excellence. The finest of its kind in the world!
They’re marching like we do (with the hand cross.)”
In my senior year in Passaic High School (NJ), our beloved band teacher of many years retired and we had a new band teacher.
Waooo que excelente presentación y la coordinación tan sincronizada e incomparable......
The fans love the tubas because other than the Drum Major, they got an increased applause. Also, coming down the ramp they are so smooth they appear to be on an escalator. Awesome 👍
The sousaphone (not tuba) player gets increased applause because the crowd realizes that four or five years of hard work are about to be paid off by "dotting the i." Did you notice that the "dotter" was female?
magnifique !!!! impressionnant !!!! bravo les artistes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for taking the time to put this video on RUclips...they are wonderful.
