Been a long time since I bought a camera that isn't a Sony! Very excited for this Ricoh GR III "Dairy" Edition! Unfortunately I'm a lil lactose intolerant 😅

Hi! I'm a huge fan. I want to get into photography and think the ricoh griii would be perfect. If you ever think of selling it let me know!! I would greatly appreciate it since I cant afford a new. Love your videos!
Great video! Ive had my gr3 for a month and i love it! It has a lot of interesting features like composit shots, simulations etc that make it so fantastic.
Awesome review, not repetitive and just enough speed to explain massive infos, with others, I usually speed up the playback. Subscribed.
Regarding the warming and the battery life, one huge factor here is if you’ve got Clarity enabled (either + or - ) - I’ve found that setting it to 0 improves things significantly, obviously at the expense of not quite getting the look you might want. It’s a very processor-intensive adjustment, and it’s displayed in real-time on the Ricohs (versus only applied after the fact on Fujis, hence why they take a second or two to process when you have it enabled).
Man that is some deep hidden cheat code to get more battery life 😅
As a Ricoh shooter as well, it's a love/hate relationship. The size and IQ are amazing, but it has it's shortcoming like you mentioned. But as others have said, it's a unique camera that's capable of amazing results.
I went to check out the Ricoh GR III when I was in Japan earlier this year but stuck with my Sony A7C, BUT coming from Jason now I have to take a second look at the Ricoh again especially love the gray look
Great video! I used to shoot on the original GR1 film camera back in 1998. I just ordered the GR3 Diary and can't wait to get it. Yes please do a follow up video!
Yes, love to see more video on this GRIII.
I shoot all sorts of cameras but when I want to have fun with friends and family it's always the Ricoh that comes long. People don't take it seriously and smiles come out when I bring it to my face. The APS sensor is big enough and I appreciate the in body stabilization and the ability to find a face. Prior to buying the Ricoh, the Sony Rx1r was my favorite EDC camera. However, the Ricoh is smaller, has more features and has better focus modes. For anyone on the fence about buying a Ricoh, give it a try. However, as with all cameras that have lenses that retract, do not put this camera in your pocket. Pockets have lint and dirt that can find their way into the camera. I usually carry my Ricoh in a plastic ziplock bag.
Taping the mic holes and using a lens cap keeps my ricoh perfectly safe in my cargopants side pocket! I'm now actually thinking of buying the GR III (in addition to my current X),
so i can cargopants dual wield 28/40mm :D
I had a Ricoh GR II and I agree about people not taking it seriously. If I'm in public and taking photos with my Ricoh, nobody cares. If I have my Nikon 810, then people are concerned. That's what I love about the Ricoh. I have the Ricoh GR III Diary on order.
Definitely would love more content on this camera. Looking for an EDC camera and also hadn’t heard of this one.
Great video! Just what I needed! Thank you!
Dude! You answered my questions re: film recipes. Most reviewers don't seem to mention it!
Seems like a good set up (for me):
• Fuji X-T5, for lens options and Fuji colors
• Ricoh GRIII for street and graffiti
Your channel is a rare commodity, Professional photography AND professional quality humour (Kings English spelling) all perfectly blended! Thank you!!!!!
GR 3 and a Konica big mini are the cameras i edc most. Best of both worlds and both of them fit in the palm of my hand (not at the same time of course). I live in LA and with how bad it’s gotten wouldn’t dare carry around my A73 with any of the Gmasters I own. The Ricoh is super Lowkey love it to pieces
Jason , great review I would definitely like to see a follow up video of the Ricoh GRiii
Good job on this video. I really like the image count feature on this diary edition. Being able to apply sims to your RAW files in camera is pretty sweet!

just discovered your channel! And I love it!

Welcome to the club!
Picked up a secondhand GR3 from Map Camera a few weeks ago during my Japan holiday. Thanks for the recommendation, I had a good experience buying from their store.
Been enjoying shooting with the GR3 these past weeks. Would be interested to watch a follow-up review.
Bought my gr iii from map as well! Best deal in town!! Hope you enjoyed Japan!
Where is Map Camera located? Im also here in japan and looking for my first camera
I am still using a Ricoh GR digital camera from 2005.
I love it.
I will get a second hand 111 when the prices come down a bit
What's not to believe? The Ricor GR is legend. Welcome Sony fanboy!
Love mine
Do you have problems with dust on the sensor?
I am almost about to press the buy button! Just wanted to ask.. do you think Ricoh would have done anything better to the latest version (diary edition) in terms of build.. ofcourse not the visible parts but maybe just some internals, or would it be the exact same as the previous editions that have come out in the past.. just contemplating between the older street and the new diary addition.. wonderful video by the way! Thanks!
As always, great content Jason! Me and my girlfriend are coming to Japan this june for a 2-week vacation. I know you've covered this in your previous uploads, but I would really appreciate it if you can point us to a nice camera shop where we can snag a budget 2nd hand EDC to use during our trip? I think we can spare around 600usd for the camera, and still have enough left to enjoy our stay. If our budget is too small, then I guess we'll just have to stick to my iphone then. haha We would definitely still enjoy Japan even without the purchase. Thanks man!
Awesome video the camera looks epic.
I replaced my Fujifilm x100v with this Ricoh GRIII model and I am very satisfied, the only downside is the battery, the rest is the best, the size and the speed is sensational. I would highly recommend 👍
Can you do a follow-up video about your experience with the camera? Thanks!
Nice video thanks. Heard the focus is not fast. Do you find it manageable?
Hey Jason, could you make a video on how to create the film emulation recepies for Sony FF cameras? I own a A7IV and would love to learn how to tweak the picture profiles built into the camera to spit out Fuji style photos.
I'm also in a camp that enjoy 28mm for point and shoot. X100 with 28mm edition would be a cool addition to the line up (the current WCL make the camera a bit big)
You are hilarious! Keep spreading the joy.
I would love to see a follow-up review on this camera. Will you do a comparison with this camera VS X100V? Thanks.
Let’s give credit to the GRII which pioneered the GR “hype” long before social media’s interest of cameras. Plus, it had a pop-up flash. The only problem with the Positive film simulation, although it’s one of my favorite, is that every single picture of Tokyo you can find online made with a GRII or III look the same 😅 But it’s a great travel/memories camera.
Disagree. The GR began the hype and continues it. I'm using Super Res in PS and wonder why the results are identical to my RAW output from an XE4 with 33mm 1.4 attached.
Just bought a gr3x myself. I love it
Used a lot of camera systems including nikon, sony and fuji. Bought and sold camera stuffs but having my ricoh gr3 for years now. This camera is for keeps.
Great video! I have a Street Edition and love it. I noticed you renamed your custom color profiles? How/where is that in the menu??? Never saw that before!
You go to the C and choose Save Settings!!
Ricoh is the king of street and very good quality digital camera. I will buy Ricoh in the future and it is the end of my camera. Thank Jason Vong to share your experience about it. : )
Great video - very pro.
I solt my Ricoh GR III and bought a Sony RX1R II and there is no comparison. I'm happy with the change.
The RX1Rii is literally 3.5x the cost, I'd hope so.
Thanks!
How could you not know about this camera? Anyhow, welcome to the GR club!
Better late than never I suppose! 🙈
Im russian vlogger
@@JasonVong :) highly recommended to get a belt pouch for this camera. Have fun! 😊 Looking forward to see more videos from you!
I’ve been eyeing one of these for a year or two now… keep seeing people get one and makes me want to pull the trigger more.
I think the edc trend has def ramped up. X100V got a huge spotlight and now the gr iii is getting some too!
@@JasonVong yeah I was looking at the Ricoh because the x100 was sold out haha
Hello Jason, thanks for sharing your view on the Ricoh. I been wanting to get one since GR II, but I might be too loyal to the Sony ecosystem. Also, did you miss the viewfinder? I wish Sony will place a prime lenses on a RX-100 and make look "cool".
how visible in bright sunlight is the GRIII screen? And what solutions are available for bright sunlight viewing?
As someone who is considering buying a GRIII or GRIIIX. I would really appreciate you doing a follow up.
A follow up video would be nice, please and thank you.
I have the GRIIIx Urban, and it also puts the photo count on the end screen. Not to mention that accent ring is replaceable (i know because mine came off and my pig chewed it up. had to buy a new one)
New dream camera
Great video, thanks for sharing! How do you find the autofocus, it seems okay with you? I've watched a few GRIII videos, including the GRIIIx and they all mostly mention how bad the autofocus is! Recently sold my Q2, and SL2-S (to free up some funds) and was thinking this would be a great EDC?
The autofocus is snappy but it can often focus on the wrong thing if you’re on wide. I wouldn’t trust it tracking anything like on a Sony. Most reviews I’ve watched have all expressed snap distance shooting is the way to go. That just sets a predetermined focus distance.
May I know where did you get the camera? Could you please provide the name of the shop and locations? Thank you 🙏🏼😊
LX 100 - II/Leica D-Lux 7 (same camera, but hopefully the successor comes out soon) a M4/3 compact fast integrated lens with zoom. My favorite travel camera because it's smol. You can get a replacement ring that acts as an integrated cap.
I’ve seen it at camera stores! It’s so tiny!
It’s a great travel camera.
Hey man! Please may I ask, did you get an extra lens ring in your box?
I’ve been experimenting with the GF3. This camera brings a lot of the best things and more. It’s super pricey though. Do you think it was worth it?
A follow up video would be great. As a user of both the GRiii and a Sony camera, I’d love to know your thoughts.
5:20 inbuilt memory? Yeah, VERY exciting and useful :P
We need a follow up video after the honey moon period!
It’s absolutely unreal 💥
I've sold all my lenses and replaced them with the Nikon 10.5mm fisheye. I think it's one of better business decisions I've made in photography. I'm hoping that my clients are going to love it as much as I do. I do a lot of luxury weddings, and it seems like the most obvious tool for me.
Been following your journey on that! Thinking about committing to the fisheye too if this Ricoh doesn’t end up working out
Wow big move. Is it really that good that it can replace them all? What camera are you using with it or multiple
You'll never have a mother in law complain about the cousin twice removed not featuring in the album. Literally everything will be in every photo.
I've made the switch from x100v to gr3x over a year ago, never regretted it. but it sucks that dust particles come inside the camera so easily. They really should do something about that.
This is the only reason I won’t pick one up. No way of cleaning the dust off that comes in
@@Deetroiter And the camera shops aren't helpful either once they realise you're talking about the GR. It's a shame.
The battery drain is not an issue - just pack more batteries.
The only real issue I've found so far is the severe overheating issue in bright, sunny situations.
iIMO, the Grii pos film has the best film simulation of all time any camera, the jpegs are just gorgeous - the GRII pos film is ight - but the monotone film simulation is crazy
I don't always want to take my big cameras with all the big glass. It's heavy and sometimes I just want to take a small point and shoot with good resolution with me. Especially if it's just for family trips. But I also want the ability to have a good resolution camera just in case I happen to run into an epic shot. I would like to see you make a full review video about the GR III. I'll also have to take another look at your other small camera comparison. I've seen it before but wasn't looking for one at the time. Thanks for the video!
I love my Sony cameras but also my two Ricoh GR cameras ❤
After 5 mos with it, are you still pocketing it every day? Do you regret not getting a black one for more stealth street photography, or do people generally still ignore you?
Can you please tell me which editor you use to edit your photos?
This awesome camera is sold out in India for more than 6 months now. The FOMO is real, I wanna get my hands on it like NOW!
Does it have some kind of weather sealing ? Or none like previous editions ?
This was a logical next step
Battery life, no flash, and that front ring falling off are my main cons but it's still one of my favorite cameras of all time. It pairs very well with a those small FlashQ lights.
Front ring falling off? What are you doing to your camera? 😂
Poor low light autofocus is the biggest negative for me.
@@robbiebarnes Just taking it in and out of my coat pocket 😂. Google "ricoh gr front ring falling off" and you'll see that complaint a lot
Not related to video but hoping SONY ZVE10 will have firmware update like the FX3 & FX30
how does the shooting raw then applying in camera filter on top a raw file work?
Like many, been trying for months to get a Fuji X100V, but none available anywhere, for use as an everyday/always with me camera. Since Fuji is apparently not sending more X100V's to the U.S., this just might be the answer-----and price wise too! Would love to see more videos here on it and your experience with it in the future.
Wait theyre not sending anymore?
Why arent they sending more
Hey Jason! This looks really cool! The only issue compared to the X100V is that it’s not weather sealed. You’re not worried to bring it out in the rain?
It's small enough to cover from rain. Your hand, an umbrella, etc. Also, It's not made of sugar, it can take a splash - just don't dunk it. Sandblast could be an issue though, as is dust. However, putting a filter on the front will help with those a bit.
Can we see a follow up video and how you use it for everyday?
Thank you for the great content.
I just did another video if you wanna check it out!
How weird.. just saw your shots of that performance inside Tokyu Kabukicho Tower in the video at 7:14.
I was watching the same thing from the same angle as your shot on Friday the 21st 😂
Only took iPhone shots myself though. I was already behind in editing pics and taking a break from the bigger cameras. Always too many cool things to photograph in Japan.
Wait. We might’ve been there at the same time then!
@@JasonVong haha how weird is that! We were probably next to each other and I didn't even realise it.
We watched it from there for about 5-10 minutes, then popped upstairs to the Namco centre to get another perspective.
I'll have to check my gf's videos to see if you're in them.
Well at least I didn't run into you at an onsen! 😅
So I'm torn between fuji xe4 and ricoh gr III. I'm a beginner and looking for a new edc camera. I will mainly use it for tavelling purposes. Is there any insight on which one I should get?
If you want to use it in a variety of situations traveling and don't mind a bit more weight/bulk, the X-E4 is great and incredibly versatile. That said, I actually really enjoy shooting primes only when traveling and GRIIIx has been my only camera on a variety of trips and is my daily carry. It's a lifestyle choice, and up to you, but I really love the Ricoh. It's what a really good old school film point and shoot like my Rollei 35 (or the original GR) was back in the day. All most people needed.
@jasonvong - do you/have you used this camera a lot in past year since you posted to video?
I haven’t used it a few months since I’ve gotten the X100VI 😢
Mine arrived last week, and while setting up it got extremely hot. LCD was hot not warm. Is this ok? Anyone else have this problem?
where to buy this camera? Diary Edition
ONE OF US. ONE OF US. ONE OF US. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
I am a believer now 🤩
Any dust issues?
Finally 🎉
How can I get this one 😥? There is no shipping to my country 💔
Hi, where can i get it in that color ?😢
Jason, Diary Edition vs the Street Edition (I like orange ahhemm "Burnt Sunrise" #AlphaMale 🤣)
The specs seem the same am i missin something???
Mahalo 🤙🏽
Hahaha!
Ya the same just the color scheme! And special OFF screen that’s all
Mahalo Nui. That one is much easier to get hehehe. I’ll be back in Japan in the fall and don’t wanna wait that long. So it’s either a GR or a ZV-E1 🤔. Don’t tell the other half but I’ll surely get both 🤣😂🤙🏽
i'm stuck between the griii x or the griii... lol not sure which to get.
It's Noe - Ended up getting one of these LOL
I love my Ricoh
is the body metal or fibre?
I've been waiting for GR4 since 2019 lol🤣
Excuse me! Are people still putting the GR series in their pocket them complaining about sensor dust?
I have the Ricoh GRIIIx urban edition and love the 40 mm equiv lens. It is the only good quality camera that I have ever had that is truly "pocketable". That said, don't get rid of your cellphone, as the video performance is TERRIBLE. Hard to believe a camera that nails photography so well, blows it so spectacularly in video. Nevertheless, I love the camera.
The GR is my favorite camera period. I own an sony a7c, and have owned fuji and canon before that... But the ricoh is just superior is how fun it is to shoot.
It’s the fun factor that got me too!
HAve you made the follow up on this camera yet??
I made several! Type in my name and Ricoh GR3!
Does Ricoh GR III in Japan come with English menu?
Yes!
"I didn't know about the Ricoh GRIII"
For shame sir, FOR SHAME!
Jokes aside enjoy the smallest and most capable APS-C Camera.
Personally sold mine coz of the durability and dust issues that came over time. Remember to keep it clean~
I keep hearing about this dust issue. So there'd be no way to "blow" dust it out?
@@JasonVong short of sending it for servicing, no way of getting it out.
And given that it's not weather resistant with a lens design that sucks in dust...it's a matter of time.
So as much as its pocket friendly I wouldn't keep it in my pocket. Too much lint to risk it.
@@JasonVong There are teardown videos on RUclips if you're ok with DIY, but I would send it in if dust ever occurs. Thing is, the dust issue is very hit or miss. Some people have used it for years without and some got it in months. There's no 100% way of sealing it so don't fret too much. Just enjoy the world's most powerful EDC camera.
Personally I put a stick-on JJC UV filter and keep it in a soft microfiber pouch. 8 months in, so far so good. If you put it naked in a jeans pocket full of lint, dust might appear after a while, who knows. Technically, there's a rubber gasket around the sensor to prevent dust (which enters via the top scroll wheel) from getting in. But after some time + bad luck, the glue for the gasket comes lose and dust enters the sensor. Dust cannot enter the sensor via the lens as they're physically 2 separate components, but it can get trapped in the lens mechanism.
I put a filter on mine. It does a good job of keeping it clean. Plus yours is brand new, so you've got the remodeled 2.0 version of the body that has better durability than the first few years releases. They fixed the dials and such for new models for the last few years now.
@@-grey Was there any official announcements saying they fixed the durability?
What next comp Ricoh vs Sony zv1
For photos, Ricoh! For videos, ZV-1
Did you consider the griii X over gr iii ?
3:25 😅
Got me lost in the first half, thinking EDC = Electric Daisy Carnival. Took me a while to realize you meant Every Day Carry. 🤦🏻♂
I made the same joke in my other video😂
Everyone forgets Leica CL.. better then all those cameras.
I sold my Leica q2 after using GR3 for a week
All it needs is a view finder. Shooting in the day time with no view finder and the hot sun beaming on the screen is suicide 😂
