I use SGC and PSA both, and I really like SGC although they 100% are unfairly tough on certain vintage cards right now. I have sent them really valuable near-mint to mint vintage stuff and I have gotten a lot of 5.5 and 6 grades on near perfect 1950s cards. It's extremely annoying from a company I want to be able to send cards to. I sent them a near-mint 1956 Harmon Killebrew 30 days ago, the card was marked near mint by Greg Morris, and when I got the card it looked at least that good to me. Just got it back from SGC and they gave it a 3. It's laughable. I wish grading companies had to answer for some of their ridiculous outlier grades once in a while. No recourse at all for that in this hobby.

I collect vintage only. SGC is my choice. Resale value improving. I believe in the future, the gap will narrow further, as vintage collectors are happy with SGC mid-range cards, particularly star cards. I have a "ran over by a truck" 56T Jackie Robinson, which I submitted and, not surprisingly, got a 1. While I have no intention of selling it, rather keeping it for my PC, the $30 I spent on getting it slabbed, even at a 1, immediately increased its value by a few hundred.

I sent cards to HGA back in September for the 60 day turn around and finally got them in March. They had some issues with a Covid outbreak, staff turn around, and all the other stuff that comes with the territory of being a new company but what bothered me most was their lack of communication throughout the process. When I did reach out to their customer service team they're response was rather rude and made me feel like I was the bad guy for even asking for an update. Otherwise I think the slabs are great! The custom labels are awesome, especially for a PC cards. HGA was recently bought out and will no longer be accepting new submissions until they can get caught up. Hopefully the new guys will come in, streamline the process, and make HGA more competitive in the field.

Just a word of advice for people that claim to not worry about resale value and only collect for personal collection. I sold my collection about 16 years ago to pay lawyers to get custody of my son which I did get. If I only worried about Orioles cards (which I do have an awesome collection of) I wouldn't have been able to sell them really fast. Unfortunately there was a Michael Jordan Rookie, a yellow babe Ruth card and ton of other iconic cards. The thing is you never what life will bring but having iconic cards in your PC collection allows for quick liquidation if the time arises when needed. I also used my collection as collateral on a loan to buy a Chesapeake bay front home when I was 25 years old. Without the cards I would have lost the deal on the house.

I've only sent PC stuff to HGA and I have to say the quality of the slabs are solid. The custom labels look great. I haven't had any ,"Huh??? Grades" like I've had with PSA. Only issue with HGA is the 60 business day order took 153 business days and overall 7 months from received to shipped.
I haven't submitted anything to PSA since my last quarterly specials took 16 months to get back and I got a bunch of mislabeled, ungraded, bizarre grades back on 2020 MLB, NFL, NBA.
SGC has been getting me orders back in 17-25 business days on my 1960s-1990s MLB/NFL cards. Four submissions so far and everything has been fast and fair matching what I graded the cards myself before I send any card off for grading.
Have never used CSG/BGS however I have picked some slabs up for the PC. New CSG labels finally got me to pick one up since the old green labels just kept me away.
In the meantime I'm just staying away from grading until all these companies can control the backlogs. Would really like some fair prices & turnaround times again.

When I started collecting graded cards in 2013-14, I liked BGS for the familiarity to the name, and the subgrades. It wasn't much time before I switched over to PSA. I liked the uniform slabs that looked pretty nice with evey card. I also liked the fact they tended to be worth more. I kept rolling with PSA for about 6 or 7 years before I decided to purchase both an HGA slab and an SGC slab. I was impressed with HGA's slab but not so much the label. Their grading scale is a little weird too compared to the BGS subgrade total. The SGC slab I was really impressed with in hand. I love SGC for vintage. Some newer cards look nice in the tuxedo as well. But things like the Jordan RC, not so much. I currently rank them PSA, with SGC in a very close second and maybe even 1st for vintage, BGS in a solid 3rd, and HGA and CSG, are my outliers.

Exactly! Don't use slabs and write the grade in black crayon over the face of the player, directly on the card!
      Huge resale potential!

I only use SGC at this point and most of the already graded cards I buy are also SGC. I love the look of their slabs and their customer service is great.
The only modern I collect is Topps Heritage. I have been sending in Red Ink Autos and other high end cards to them and they grade them fairly and they look great. These cards are long term holds for me, and I really think over time they will catch up with PSA. PSA is making improvements, but they have. left a sour taste in my mouth from their complete mishandling of things for a couple of years there.

I think long term CSG will be a real competitor to PSA. The slabs are just nicer and clearer. The plastic on the SGC slabs just suck otherwise I’d be more supportive of them.

I've sold HGA Marvel cards for more than PSA is going for in the same grades. As well as sports for close to PSA prices in the same grades. If you're able to be patient you can do that with any company I would think. Not to mention, PSA is losing ground to everyone else it seems with all the scandals and ridiculous backlog that will probably be another couple years before they are caught up

Psa is out because of inconsistent grading especially older slabs. Psa has been caught grading fake and modified trimmed cards. Psa also has proven more and more they are trying to control the pop report based on the cons I have mentioned. BSG has been caught grading fake cards that's it's only con. SCG is to kind to collectors and often give high grades that's it's only con. CSG (CGC) although new has the most strictest graders and is very consistent across the board. Again CSG is new and will definitely be on top just needs more time. CSG although new has ties to CGC which has been grading collectibles for some time now.

Unfortunately grading has become too costly but because of the trend toward trimming cards it has become necessary. I focus primarily on vintage and prefer SCG and PSA. Hopefully in time SCG will close the gap on resale value with PSA.

I’ve never submitted cards for grading, but I’ll certainly buy one already graded. I like the SGC look especially for vintage cards. However, I buy a card I want and can afford regardless of the slab it is in. I have cards in less desired slabs because I wanted the card. I don’t think I have any HGA graded slabs yet. They do stand out.

Just got a look at my new order from CSG with their ALL NEW black labels and they are far superior than their old green labels. One little remark I have though, being a graphic artist, is the spacing on their 1/2 grades, i.e. 8.5, 9.5 etc, seems like they should be closer together however that could just be me as well as simply being used to seeing SGC's 1/2 grades. But, looking at PSA 1/2 grades, their spacing isn't spectacular either and ever notice how their spacing on their labels isn't exactly centered.
    Just some thoughts.

What is the 'expected' value of the card based on? -a grade of 10? seems very objective. I have a could cards which if at 10 could be over $1k, if a 8, then much much less. Thanks

So please explain to me why I paid $150 for PSA express for 1 card, no autograph just normal grading, and they received my order in February, and it is still in "assembly" stage as of April 21st. There was a 1 business day hold which was quickly resolved back in early March. I'm hearing a lot of people saying quick turnaround times. Called customer service 3 times and told everything is normal for my service time with express tier. The last express CTD was updated April 11th as 3/2/2022. Any insight into what is taking them so long to grade 1 card?
