It's funny how the title of the movie is the same thing your mother orders at the buffet
Hey man! Not cool! Im gonna tell my mommy now!
My mom's a saint!
The original title was “ I don’t care which universe the IRS pulled you from, I’m not paying my taxes” but that sounded too much like a generic isekai
My sides are gone
Does that mean that this movie was rebuilt from the ashes of an idea for "Dan VS The Multiverse"?
@@NEETKitten yes
Might as well use the entire prose of The Discovery of Heaven by Harry Mulisch as the title, but yeah even then it would sound like a generic isekai these days. Shame though, it would be very funny to just say out loud the ENTIRE prose of The Discovery of Heaven by Harry Mulisch as the title alone and you still have to talk about the main story. It'll probably take you however long you can say words to even begin to talk about the premise.
Everyone that thinks that Jobu tupaki is the villain completely missed the point. The real villain was the IRS.
Just like real life as they currently build their private military
The IRS, Asian parenting, and gay people, the triple threat
Based
This movie ended up being a better "Multiverse of Madness" than the Multiverse of Madness we got.
i hate to even compare the two, mutliverse of madness was a pure example of "Yo multiverses? that sounds super cool lets do that!" then entirely just missing the point and not understanding the theory.
Word dude.
"I love you in every universe" doesn't hold a candle to "I'd like to do laundry and taxes with you."
This film gives nihilism a steel-toed kick to the groin.
Well, it doesn't reject nihilism. It is nihilist. It's a specific subset called Optimistic Nihilism.
at the speed of light
It's the meme of "The cold unfeeling nature of the universe when the Indomitable Human Spirit walks in."
As it should. Nihilism is stupid and built on the misunderstood writings of the man trying to stand in the face of Nihilism.
@@unicyclist97
People call it absurdism nowadays and it is considered a different philosophy from nihilism. Which I am ok with because I prefer to not be confused with those edgy lords.
I fucking love Waymond, most of all the main universe one. In it he has his limits, and is far tired about his life than he lets himself show. But the fact that he radiates positivity in the totality of his whole history, beginning to end, makes me supremely happy. We need more characters like Waymond.
We need more _people_ like Waymond.
It was a bit on-the-nose, but Waymond easily was my favorite side-character from how he tried to keep up the optimism. The googly eyes threw me through a loop, til it hit me: he's trying to make Evelyn laugh. He was also stressed, he was also scared, but he knew panicking and worrying so much only makes it worse for the situation and their mental health.
Plus, Cool Waymond was easily so likeable with how he kept trying to help Evelyn find a good solution to this horrible situation, not only trying to help her save the multiverse, but also to save her from the same despair and Nihikist destructive misery that consumed Jobu Tapaki.
He is the voice of Optimism, whereas Tapaki is the voice of Pessimism; both in the face of the nihilistic abyss staring Evelyn in the face. But the father is interesting, because he seems to represent Determinism.
I've seen A LOT of movies. But rich Waymund's 'laundry and taxes' line is by far the most romantic and genuine line I've heard in a movie.
On contrast, Doctor Strange and the multiverse of mundaness's "I love you in every universe" rings so so hollow.
This movie is basically what Turning Red & Multiverse of Madness wished they could be.
Finally a channel that acknowledges Bioshock 2 as the better Bioshock, please make a video on it.
Except for the story and also bioshock 1 levels were iconic. That atmospheric feel you get visiting fort frolic and arcadia is no where to be found in bioshock 2. But goddamn the gameplay is way better in 2.
Might as well do a dawn of the long on all 3 like with the resident evil video
I haven't played these games but I enjoy the controversy 👩⚖️
@@omarsabir1210 Bioshock 2 wasn’t as philosophical but the atmosphere is 100x better. Being a big daddy with a huge drill may not be as iconic for some reason but it’s way more fun.
Lmao cope that bioshock 1 was way better. Oh I forgot you gotta be cool by not liking popular shit
Let’s be perfectly honest, the only reason bioshock infinite was praised to high Heaven was because the metric tons of r 34 art of Elisabeth, and don’t you deny it.
Nah, it was praised because of self-hating journalism majors who wound up writing for gaming websites wanting to justify their poor career choice by saying "nuh-uh! Video games can totally have deep stories!" while holding up the most bush-league, pedestrian example of a video game story. Same as Dad of Boi a few years later.
That being said, the porn is absolutely Infinite's only lasting impact, and I will never stop laughing at that.
Don't you know? Mentioning "America racist" automatically makes your story super complex and deep. Doesn't need to reflect anything about the main character or move the plot, just mention it. Similar to Jordan Peele fimography "social comentary".
@@kyon813 I really hate how game journos be like "God of war is more mature now that Kratos is a more emotionally complex character" like, bruh, Kratos always been a complex character, a legit greek tragedy. Meanwhile 2018 God of war plot is basically the Last of Us. Which is ironic because the "escort girl to be sacrificed to save the world then change mind on the last minute because dad instincts kicked in" is one of the subplots of God of war 3. GOW 2018 is not a bad game, but all that praise about the "story finally being mature" is pure game journo wankery.
@@Noperare Also "Mature = Good/Deep" is a belief that needs to be taken out back and shot.
I always chuckle at a video of a guy doing some party game of swiping through his gallery in front of friends, and then everyone going wild at full bust out r34 Elizabeth coming up. "Why a cartoon?" You know why, partygoer.
I fucking love this film one of the most Beautiful story’s told this year

damn, that was quick
What the hell is this synchronicity?! I just watched this a few days ago and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. So glad you made a vid on this; easily one of my fav movies of all time now.
Synchronicity is not a smart word to use in this community, not unless you want Shota to skull fuck you to death
I enjoyed the dunk on Bioshock Infinite's ending. I've never been so annoyed at a game's ending before. They made it even worse with the DLC where Elizabeth loses her powers looking for a Booker she missed. A Booker that was actually remorseful for the evil crap he's done and wanted to find redemption for it. But no, he's "bad" just because and he has to die. So freaking stupid.
If a movie can make me feel strongly for a rock with googly eyes, it's doing something right!
Watch it! Seriously, go watch it! It's an incredible film!
Great flick. Fuck the Nihilism Bagel.
I just want to come back and comment; This is one of the few movies that made me laugh my ass off and cry my ass off. I wasnt expecting such nihilistic themes and yet I love it. It just clicked with me, I related to it. I relate to the feeling of regret, thinking what I could have done instead, dwelling on meaningless things, but in the end, it doesnt matter, none of it mattered, I should just give up, kill myself or continue as a neet. But there were good things in my life, happy things, my loving mother, my caring father, my sister whom I love more than myself. It wasnt all meaningless, there are bad things in life yes, but there are good things in life aswell. This movie is now in my top 10 movies of all time, and it deserves to be movie of the decade.
Godspeed my friends, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
I watched this movie on one anxious night in movie.
Blew my expectations away. Probably greatest action movie I have seen in years.
The villain of this movie is Asian parenting
Also this film does rip off the episode of fairly odd parents: channel chasers
This is the second time you've made me pause the video to go watch a movie and come back
I did enjoy this movie, not perfect but fun. I especially liked the part were the mom has a heart to heart with her daughter and calls her fat, all in the same breath.
The mention of the Northman being good makes me hope he covers it in the future. That movie was gold.
It is nice that we are having some actions movies with heart and a clear voice again. Everything is amazing. Another action comedy i would recommend is Bullet Train. Just another fun romp with heart and characters you want to see succeed. Another great break down as always Loli, keep it up!
I watched this movie with my mom and I have never seen her actually cry, she is a very strong women who does everything for me and I’m also a lesbian. We both cried and this movie weirdly brought us closer.
I see.
I’m off to see this then.
Laters.

The daughter is a terrible character and I can['t believe we're supposed to sympathise with her
@@abrahamicreligionsbowbefor3585 How so?
I’m surprised people aren’t talking about this movie. It was such a breath of fresh air from all of the woke movies. Loved the characters especially the husband
I mean, this movie is woke too, the difference is it's just actually good so that never takes the forefront.
I saw a few ads for this film
People already talked about it. It's dead news
@@Gannoh I’d argue it’s actually progressive than woke. Progressive gets shit done. Woke is just screaming “hey, this character is gay/trans/female/colored/etc and that’s it! Remember them while I scream this 10 minutes later!” The progressive traits are supposed to be additions or rather footnotes to their character, not be their entire character or personality like a twittard user.
@@CharlemagneGuy127 That's fair.
The greatest sin of multiverse of madness is that we didn't get to see a version of wolverine that was portrait by Glenn Danzig
just found your channel via true detective review, now watching this. Really love your sense ofhumor, actually laughed out loud more than a few times during this video. you seem pretty based. Keep up the good work & God speed
#JusticeForRaccacoonie
I'd watch a movie about him
Honestly I was more of a bioshock 2 fanboy, since you literally become a fucking big daddy and the storyline was actually pretty good, while infinite was crap and it didn’t do anything interesting with the multi-verse concept.🐱
B-But "America racist" social comentary! That means the story is deep and complex. Seriously, Booker at no moment says anything racist, because we can't have a racist protagonist, so the idea Comstock being somehow his "bad route" makes no sense. The "isn't a man entitled to the sweat of his brow?" question is a legit interesting and can be debated with many valid points all over the political spectrum. The fall of Rapture can be debated if it was a failure of objectivism as political model or Andrew Ryan personal issues. Meanwhile, Columbia and Comstock are so cartoonish bad, there is no debate, everyone that played agrees "racism bad". Then on top of that, they added the multiverse quantum bullshit, which is the easiest way to sound smart to dumb people.
I struggled to even watch it in UK, it was only playing for like 3 days in major cities. its a solid 9/10 for me.
You beat us, AFAIK we got it played in theaters exactly ONCE in the entire country.
We randomly wanted to go to the movie theater and picked this because it looked kinda cool. It ended up being my favorite movie. It was so good and I love that you analyzed it.
"Oooh I wanted to hear Loli's thoughts on this fil- IS THE BACKGROUND MUSIC FEATHER BY NUJABES?"
5:52 Thank you for saying this. Marvel is so divorced from reality at this point for trying to paint her as an innocent victim.
Everything everywhere all at once, what a fucking mouthfull lmfao. I watched a while back with my dad and loved it. It was something neeeew, something differreeent. Something that doesnt make me want to rip my ears off and sew them to my eyes. Thanks for reviewing this dope ass movie loli.
I checked this movie after MauLer's recommendation, and it honestly is one of the best ones I've seen. It really is one of those movies.
My only gripe with it is that I don't understand where do those ear things to verse-jump come from. They have to have been made in the Alpha-verse, but somehow they appeared in Evelyn's universe, and I can't understand how.
I rarely tell people to see a movie. So alot of my friends and family (which isn't alot of people, shaddup lol) were super surprised when I told them to watch this movie as soon as they could. Extremly enjoyable film, and I'm glad that you enjoyed it as well, Loli.
To all reading this comment, I hope you enjoyed the film as well (or will enjoy it once you see it).
I fucking loved this movie. Really wasn't expecting it to surpass Top Gun Maverick and The Northman as my favorite of the year. I think with its success The Daniels are going to lead the charge on the new era of visionary filmmaking in response to the capeshit bubble bursting, and I really look forward to seeing what they make next.
The nasuverse does a good job of using a multiverse yet making everything consequential
To the point where it skirts the fourth wall to illustrate the impact that those alternate realities have
Everytime i hear a different video game OST in these videos I get a huge dopamine hit
OMG Furi too! This is too much of a treat
This year was weird in how many good movies came out. Top Gun, The Northman, Vengeance, and this one. I just hope the trend continues.
The lady with the dog using her dog as a weapon was the funniest thing ever
I literally watch this movie yesterday with my family holy sh!t
Everyone says the laundry and taxes line is great, and it is, but for me the biggest moment of the movie is Waymond's "this is how I fight" line. It just utterly blows out the mentality of atomised carelessness that so many people watching it had adopted as a defense mechanism against being hurt.
I’d honestly want a full review of bioshock infinite from you. Would be peak entertainment.
Small comment: love the way you cut into Beneath The Mask. What a jam.
Paused this when you said to go watch it.
Returned once I was done.
HOLY FUCK! That was a great movie. Also fucking hilarious.
The Bioshock Infinite ending is explained in Burial at Sea where Elizabeth explains that she devoted her life to hunting down every version of Booker who turned evil and killed them, but it ends up screwing her over because she becomes trapped in Rapture and Fontaine kills her after using her abilities to learn Jack’s command phrase. The tragedy is that even if you erase one evil man, another will step in to fill the void.
Glad you reviewed this movie. One of my favorites
What i will for ever love is how this channel covers more than just anime which i think is super cool.
Love this film. So fucking good
The only "disposable" timeline was the timeline that they created to hold all of the meta bullshit. Rick in Rick and Morty barely cares about people in his own timeline.
I just like to make a comment I don’t see anyone talk about on these video.
Your music taste man just wow. I found some of my new favourite songs because of you.
Keep it up man.
I felt it in my bones when you mentioned Bioshock 2.
I was first introduced to the movie with YMS’ review of it and Morbius. Of course, this was when the Morbius memes were all over, so I went in for some laughs, and decided to stick around for the review of the other movie. Little did I know that I’d be convinced to see what became my favorite movie of all time.
I held off on watching this review until I had a chance to watch EEAAO and holy shit was it worth it.
I was reminded of a lyric by DemonDice while watching this; "The road to freedom can't be seen by downcast eyes, so raise your gaze up til' you're ten feet tall and shake your fist at the sky, refuse to die or let them make you small, 'cause they'd love just to see you convinced you're just a brick in a wall". Jobu/Joy had been presented the single most horrifying situation in a person could experience in her multiverse: unaccepted for who she is, unable to die, unsatisfied with life as a universe-jumping god, experiencing the lives, deaths, and pain of every single version of herself in every splintered universe at the same time. No single consciousness should ever have to experience something like that. And then she finds a version of her mother with the same capabilities, and at her lowest, that mother tells her "pick yourself back up. Life is shit now, but it's up to you to make it better, in spite of those that look down on you." It's a very, very inspiring message, from both the movie and the song I referenced ("You're An Ace, Kid"), and I fucking love it with all my heart.
Just saw it today after the video’s recommendation to go see it before I watch it, never usually do that. Glad I saw it first because man it was trip. One of my favorites this year for sure.
Actually just finished watching this move and this was the first video in my feed.
Honestly, I feel weird because I went to the movies to watch this after hearing about all the praise this movie got. But when I got to watch it personally, I just didn’t get the comedy, didn’t feel attached to the characters or the central conflict. I just didn’t like it. And I’m not completely against it. I admit the action scenes were good, but everything else wasn’t my kind of taste.
Excellent movie. I'm happy it's getting more attention. I managed to catch a rerelease. No regrets.
So by the end of the year, will you be doing a recap of the finale of Berserks Fantasia Arc, and thoughts on what comes next?
I’m here because I watched this movie today. I can see why it won an Oscar for Best Picture.
Yea, I loved this movie.
It's a secular answer to the nihilism of modern life.
While Joy says; when you can have anything, nothing matters. Evelyn says; when nothing really matters, anything can.
It's a perfect answer to it, it's what I always took away from Camus' _You must imagine Sisyphus happy._ I feel like this movie took Absurdism as a given conclusion and decided to present it in a way that shows you that this conclusion doesn't have to be hollow and vacuous. Which is what most critics of Absurdism will say of it. That without the _true_ meaning that something like a Teleological view of reality provides, you're always doomed to eventually slip into destructive nihilism.
Meaning isn't something true about reality. Meaning is what we give to reality. We can find meaning, our brains are hardwired to look for it. So if we think we've divined that there isn't something innate about the universe that demands meaning be real, then we make meaning in our experiences. And since we're at the wheel, why not make that meaning as beautiful as we can?
Glad you mentioned the symbolism of the Eye vs the Bagel, most people seem to miss it. It's definitely supposed to signal Yin & Yang to the viewer. But I'd honestly say it deals with dualism from more of a western, masculine / feminine perspective than from a Buddhist. If you zoom out far enough and really look for it, the entire story is not about individual characters, it's about how the different archetypes of humanity interact with each other on a grand scale.
Evelyn starts as the chaotic feminine of potential unfulfilled. And we later find out it is her relationship to Ghong Ghong, the ordered masculine tyrant who tried to control her, that stunted her. We can then see how the resentment of her realising her potential is untapped has made her push her daughter away, and her indifference as the mother has set Joy down a similar path. Then you have Waymond, who's a much more positive but ultimately ineffective Masculine archetype. Something of a failed magician, a jester. But his insight in how people interact with each other being the true meaning you can hold onto in this vast, uncaring reality is what eventually allows Evelyn to put the pieces together so she can grab the wheel on the multiversal, archetypal melodrama and transcend into the Divine, pulling Joy back from the precipice of ultimate destruction.
I have no idea if the Daniels consciously channelled Jungian archetypes, or whether they just snuck their way in, as Jung so often does. But the film basically became a metanarrative about how the archetypes interact with one another within the collective unconscious.
Evelyn even goes through a Jungian individuation. Where she reconciled the Masculine and Feminine within herself so she could fully realise her potential.
It's a good way to view the point of a multiversal narrative really. When you really think about it, a character that exists as every version of themselves, all at once, would more aptly actually be the archetype that character personifies than an individual character themselves. Because the narrative through line a character must follow doesn't really apply to them, they're pulling from the experiences of the whole rather than the individual.
I want to see a full review from you of bioshock infinite.
Bioshock 2 is superior to infinite and subject delta is the best dad in the series

That shot of the directors makes them look like a Tim and Eric ripoff.
And I just looked them up and apparently they've done Adult Swim shit, so that checks out.

I was in tears at Racacoony!!!
I hope this video can help, because when it comes to this movie, I just don't get the hype. Sure I loved the actors they all did phenomenal jobs with their roles, Waymond was probably my favorite. It also fun action scenes that were well choreographed. I even understood the deeper meaning about nihilism and absurdism. I walked out of the theater feeling content with the experience but I just thought it was pretty good; not bad but not my favorite of the year. I feel like everyone else sees something in the movie that I just can't see. Anyone else experience this? Can anyone help me with what I'm missing?
