"This marks, to date, the only Firefight map in Halo that has friendly A.I." I've got some good news courtesy of the MCC dev team; All ODST Firefight maps have friendly A.I. now.
@@lopesj6670 I played Heroic Floodfight on Crater for the monthly challenge a few months ago, and it was surprisingly great. A big part of that was because of the friendly Elites. They're actually super useful, and don't just die immediately. Especially the Sword Elites. Almost felt like having 2 extra players. Highly recommend.
Now they need to add that to the reach ones, that being said installation 04 was my favourite ff map. Not just because of friendly ai, but also coz it's nostalgic but also genuinely a good map for the mode lol
Floodfight was a really, really good quality of life improvement to the firefight modes we've had for more than a decade now. It seems like they've recorded new voices and lines (Some I can think of off the top of my mind - "Dude, you're awesome! We should hang out sometime!" - A Marine, "You inspire me!" - an Elite, "We will break your casket!" - the Gravemind), the addition of the two AI characters gives you something more to fight for by trying to keep them alive, and the Elites are actually kind of helpful - they man the turrets and have shields so they don't die off instantly, unlike the marines who just get infected almost instantly. The choice of enemies in the rounds are good, the choice of skulls (Tilt and Famine) in set 2 makes fighting the Flood feel truly horrifying - I once hit a Tank form in the mouth 5 times with a gravity hammer before he fucked off and died, and this was on Normal! Shotgun shells do nothing to a shielded Elite form, and you need to destroy the bodies with melee or risk running out of ammo. The only thing it's missing is a wave counter - it is an infinite wave survival game anyway, give it that so that people have something to brag about!
A nice little real world fact relating to ODST's: I've seen pictures of people who are real world Airborne paratroopers in the US military actually run ODST patches on their work uniforms. They've gotten in trouble a lot of the time, but it's fun to see people who are in the closest equivalent in an actual military paying homage to fictional people who do a similar job
I rocked an ODST Helljumper patch when I jumped into Kunar in 2014. Easier to get away with that on deployment than it was at Bragg. Still have it. We played ALOT of Halo on our downtime.

(It'd also be cool to see him in game the way your custom Noble 6 appears in cutscenes) And that's the other thing. There's a very limited number of Spartan IIs and IIIs. While ODSTs are elite soldiers, there is no cap on how many there are, so it's easier to imagine your trooper in the lore.
The ODST's made such an impact on my love for Halo that I always equip it in whatever Halo I happen to be able to use it on. I love the Reach version and I feel like it'd be fitting as Noble 6 was a former ODST so it'd be natural for him to wear the armor. As for Halo 3 vs H2A ODST helmets, I like Halo 3's better, but H2A is still really good.

I didn't realize there was so much resistance within Bungie to "Fall of Reach." In my opinion it is the best Halo book of them all and really added to the story and the universe.
Halo CE's music had eerie feels, sure a lot of people know the title theme but not enough people talk about the heavy 90s inspirations when it comes to the music of Halo. Those weird and distinct shimmering sounds like sound reverberating off the walls of forerunner steel and glass (Idk if it's steel just bare with me) I think that 'weirdness' kind of needs to return with a game in the future, nowadays Halo rings are treated like a holy site, when in CE we were in awe and maybe even scared because what is this thing and why is there an ecosystem.
I started playing Halo at a friend’s house, the multiplayer was awesome! We did the original trilogy campaigns co-op, as they were releasing. So one day I purchased a 360 for myself, it came with ODST. That campaign was my gamertag’s first Halo experience, and I was pumped to see it came with H3 multiplayer, all dlc maps included. Ever since having ODST, I’ve been hooked on halo.
I and I believe a large portion of the communiuty LOVE the ODSTs! They are the best of the best! The Kilo 5 Trillogy of books really sheds light onto how Badass they are but also how human they are in a way the spartans never really get shown! They are "Normal" Marines expected to preform at and alongside Spartan levels and most of the time they go above and beyond that expectation! Riding feet first into Hell!
I've been a Halo fan since I was a kid but never got a chance to play ODST, just a few weeks ago, I finally did. I think it might just be my favorite halo game, and that's saying a lot. I adored the flavor of the writing and the soundtrack--it felt oddly...personal? I'm a musician, really into jazz, prog and post rock, even a pretty experienced clarinetist, and the soundtrack feels like some meshing of my personal taste with the sound we've all grown to love from Halo's music, music that entranced and inspired me from even my youngest years. It was weird. Playing this game after so many years just waiting for a new Halo experience to live up to my memories, it felt like Bungie was completing that inspirational feedback loop, saying "we love your brain too."
Interesting thing about Halo Wars 2 is that Hellbringers are ODSTs. Just outfitted to match the role of flamer units like how Bullfrogs are the designation of ODST Units that do airborne operations. This is mentioned in the Halo Encyclopedia. Page 058.
I've made a Halo ODST cosplay, and I'll save most of my thoughts on ODSTs and their designs for a video I'll eventually make, but for now I HIGHLY recommend anyone who likes ODSTs and enjoys the human aspect of the Halo universe read Dirt from Halo: Evolutions. It's an hour long read but the audiobook is the best way to experience it, and it's my favorite Halo story of all time. It inspired me to continue making my armor because it showed ODSTs being real heroes, I can't recommend it enough!
Whoever made that Reach ODST Spartan has some great fuckin taste. Hell it’s oddly similar to my own. Also it’s amazing to think that ODSTs almost weren’t a thing in Halo. I suppose we don’t live in the truly darkest timeline then.
5:19 I replayed h3 campaign last night and did the exact same thing gave all the badass odst snipers lol, loved arming the marines and odst and just having them cover you pack and chant were just all around good times
The in game footage you acquired, the angle of the shots, the editing.... Fantastic! Thank you for the additional effort you put into your videos LNG, it is greatly appreciated and enjoyed! ❤️
I would love to see a breakdown of the Brutes. They've gone through so many design changes and iterations, and now being back in the spotlight after a long absence.
It seems like a major problem with 343, much like many companies, is that the people at the head of it are adamant about doing the literal exact opposite of what the consumerbase wants to try and force them to like it.
Would it be possible to see a 'Evolution of the Pelican' episode? Would love to hear about my favourite sci-fi vehicle by my favourite Halo youtuber? ;) As usual, enjoyable episode. Never fail to learn something new about the lore with your videos! 🔥
For real. Marines were the "humanizing" core of the series, but 343 went and tried to offload all of that onto their Spartan IV's. Marines/ODSTs are key to making Spartans feel impressive in the first place, a necessary contrast between regular humans and supersoldiers
He said he was a former narrative lead. They probably wouldn't have been able to integrate them better anyways because they fell for the open world meme.
I personally like both halo 2 and 3 armor designs for ODST’s. The sleek round halo 2 version and the bulky rigid halo 3 version could just be considered different manufacturer requirements and equipment standards being changed because it’s late in the war and the unsc is taking what ever it can get. Atleast that’s my internal logic. It’s not like every single plate carrier in the us army is the same even today. You’ll see different rigs and uniforms across different regions and branches.
If the ODST’s do come back in Infinite, I’d like to see them with a design that combines the Reach design with the H2a design. Slimmer, sharper, and cooler
Always glad to see the Odi-Estis getting the love they deserve. In a world where you're either an apex predator or tissue paper, it's good to see the stories of the middlemen.
Loved the little cinematically with character models to showcase the different variations of the armors throughout the games. Something a little more exciting to look at while also being perfectly informative
My first introduction into video games was halo 2 and I loved every bit of it. I was young and don’t remember ever seeing a odst just always wanting to play as arbiter. But by that time reach was insanely popular it was around 2011 and that was when I first saw an odst armor set. I was in love with it. I still am as a matter of fact, I love the detail that went into it and the armor is incredible. 343 murdered it in halo 4 and somewhat redeemed themselves in 5 but I miss the old shoulder armor. It was distinguishable and for me made an odst.
Halo 3: ODST has my personal favorite soundtrack in all of Halo (and maybe games), and it's one of the main reasons why it's one of my favorite games in the series.
I feel like the ODST's could have very easily lived on in their own line of spin-offs that were more... Tactical in nature. Halo's version of Star-Wars: Republic Commandos.
I still can't imagine the work environment of early halo can you imagine the energy going into halo 3 and then finally fleshing out ODSTs in it's namesake game and then reach hell they gave a leading ODST role to Nathan and he's still voicing buck to this day in halo 5
I love Halo Legends’ ODST designs. Their simplicity feels like the perfect mesh between the h2 and h3 designs. And Cortez is a very cool character. I also loved the new gadgets Babysitter gave them, primarily that cool GPS watch.
I really like these videos, it’s always fun finding out new stuff within the Halo universe and the effort you put into them is really appreciated. Plus this one provides a nice distraction from 343’s new and hilariously bad road map. But man, those H4 ODST helmets…they really were awful weren’t they
Courage can be defined as doing something one fears despite the dangers. Spartans were engineered to be brave ODSTs and troopers have to fight their in spite of their fears to be brave. What’s braver? Superman running into a burning building or a fireman? That’s courage
When "We've Got Desperate Measures" starts playing, The Rock and Jazz truly makes it feel like you're the desperate measures. It also makes you feel like you've been slammed by a Gravity Hammer.
I feel like with the ODST’s in Halo 2 and 3, it would have been nice to see upgraded AI for the troopers, but give fewer numbers of them compared to marines to balance out their improved combat skill.
Templin releasing a video on Cayde-6 voiced by Nathan Fillion in an IP created by Bungie. Late Night Gaming releasing a video which has a character voiced by Nathan Fillion in an IP created by Bungie. Today is a good day.
ODST's first appearance was on the Halo 2 "no smoke and mirrors" gameplay! They were on the Pelican Chief was riding; I remember I got really excited when I saw their armor...
Im gonna say it... Halo 3 ODST was like a letter of love to halo and for us. I cant forget when my mom bought me that game and i was totally clueless what this game was about, it blew my mind!!!!
I miss the ODSTs. They might not have hand any major differences to the marines in gameplay, but they were awesome looking and from a story point of view they were just as cool as the Spartans. Halo 3: ODST was also just an incredible game so that helps their case immensely.
In my opinion of how the halo universe has been interpreted, I think we see less and less ODST squads in the reclaimer saga because technology improves, more people are becoming spartan 4's, and said spartan 4's are kinda taking on similar roles to these ODST squads. Its kind of a sad fact, but in some ways a parallel to our world with new types of soldiers replacing soldiers types of old.

I really enjoy your new design of video, The camera angles are perfect. Thank you Mr. latenightgaming for framing odst's in the glory they deserve
Ah, ODST's, that one thing 343i has no idea exists.
Those weird and distinct shimmering sounds like sound reverberating off the walls of forerunner steel and glass (Idk if it's steel just bare with me)
I think that 'weirdness' kind of needs to return with a game in the future, nowadays Halo rings are treated like a holy site, when in CE we were in awe and maybe even scared because what is this thing and why is there an ecosystem.
I absolutely the ODST's in Halo, this video being posted on my birthday is by far one of the best birthday surprises I've gotten
The only good upload about halo today
Interesting thing about Halo Wars 2 is that Hellbringers are ODSTs. Just outfitted to match the role of flamer units like how Bullfrogs are the designation of ODST Units that do airborne operations.
This is mentioned in the Halo Encyclopedia. Page 058.
Yeah the ODSTs in Halo Reach also have Army ranks implying they're either Army Troopers or it was an oversight by the devs.
I absolutely love the ODSTs and I hope Halo ODST 2 will be about clearing out the Flood on Earth
The Halo Wars 2 Operation Spearbreaker opening with the line of “ ‘How do we go Helljumpers?’ ‘Feet first’ “ will always be awesome to me.
When i was younger, i liked Spartans. Now, grown up - i like ODST
ODSTs being created outside of Bungie and the team rejecting them is new to me, impressive fact digging!
Landfall is what the halo tv show should’ve looked like.
Nothing beats the OG H2 ODSTs.
The production value on this video is crazy
Now this is great but what we really need is the evolution of the bullet casing in halo.
Would it be possible to see a 'Evolution of the Pelican' episode? Would love to hear about my favourite sci-fi vehicle by my favourite Halo youtuber? ;)
As usual, enjoyable episode. Never fail to learn something new about the lore with your videos! 🔥
Paul Crocker not being a fan of one of the most prominent parts of Halo's campaign tells me another reason Halo Infinite is such a terrible flop.
@@Calvin_Coolage open world? More like empty world
I personally like both halo 2 and 3 armor designs for ODST’s. You’ll see different rigs and uniforms across different regions and branches.
these guys are the most unique special units out there
This helps me ignore 343s 'roadmap'
It sucked so badly halo infinite is so crap right now
Man seeing the odst for the first time had me hooked on their Armor like it's just so cool
As if there wasn’t a better time to have you upload. I needed this today. 🤩
You couldn't resist doing a ''Destiny'' pun in the Reach section could you
It's like a legal requirement to make a Destiny pun whenever you talk about Bungie's final days as the Halo devs
Halo 3: ODST was my first halo game, so the ODST’s them selfs will always have a special place in my heart
The fact that you simply mentioned new blood makes me really happy. It’s my favorite halo book and one of my all time favorite books in general
For the last time,
Who is Otie? And why are his initials "S.T."?
Those Halo 2 ODST just hit different. They’re so cool.
deadass my fav part of halo , odst and reach was my childhood
another banger as always. you might be the first youtuber i "join" since your content is so quality
Bro your editing is on another level with the theater shots. No one else is doing it like you!
Loved the little cinematically with character models to showcase the different variations of the armors throughout the games. Something a little more exciting to look at while also being perfectly informative
Halo 3 ODST, I absolutely Love!!!❤️💕
Dude when you started talking about H3 ODST i got chills
I feel like the ODST's could have very easily lived on in their own line of spin-offs that were more... Tactical in nature. Halo's version of Star-Wars: Republic Commandos.
I still can't imagine the work environment of early halo can you imagine the energy going into halo 3 and then finally fleshing out ODSTs in it's namesake game and then reach hell they gave a leading ODST role to Nathan and he's still voicing buck to this day in halo 5
Fingerless gloves only make sense when you´re not in a drop pod which can be depressurerized at any moment
Nah, you want the finger icicles as mini swords.
But man, those H4 ODST helmets…they really were awful weren’t they
I really hope that Halo writer you mentioned who doesn't like marines in the Halo story no longer works for 343
he doesnt
Good to hear, love your evolution series btw, I look forward to your upload notifications
Always impressed with your research and script, but @13:13 you really knocked it out of the park. Gave me chills.
Courage can be defined as doing something one fears despite the dangers.
Spartans were engineered to be brave
ODSTs and troopers have to fight their in spite of their fears to be brave.
What’s braver? Superman running into a burning building or a fireman?
That’s courage
I needed this alot today 😓💖 been waiting for this since a long time love your content keep it up.
It's nice to see you're having more fun with the details of the cinematography in your videos
Imagine a world with Halo but no ODSTs...
Evolution of Halo's Brutes? 🙂
Also the editing in these videos as of late has been 👌 love what you've been doing using Reshade.
Templin releasing a video on Cayde-6 voiced by Nathan Fillion in an IP created by Bungie.
Late Night Gaming releasing a video which has a character voiced by Nathan Fillion in an IP created by Bungie.
Today is a good day.
I always wanted Halo 3: ODST to be bigger, loved it
H3 ODST has one thing that the other games don't have
Jazz
halo 3's ODST are by far my favorite iteration, also i LOVED the cinematic style almost felt like i was watching a movie
Bungie 2002: We HATE ODST's and they will NEVER be in a Halo game >>>: (
Bungie 2009: Here's our new Halo game all about ODST's ^_^
ODST's first appearance was on the Halo 2 "no smoke and mirrors" gameplay! They were on the Pelican Chief was riding; I remember I got really excited when I saw their armor...
Im gonna say it... Halo 3 ODST was like a letter of love to halo and for us. I cant forget when my mom bought me that game and i was totally clueless what this game was about, it blew my mind!!!!
All i want from the Halo series is either an ODST sequel, or a Mass Effect style game where you play as an Elite.
As a huge fan of ODSTs, I am very happy that this video exists.
“Trooper where’s that 50 we got hostiles right “
NMPD sergeant oni alpha site mission
I miss the ODSTs. They might not have hand any major differences to the marines in gameplay, but they were awesome looking and from a story point of view they were just as cool as the Spartans. Halo 3: ODST was also just an incredible game so that helps their case immensely.
If 343 ever makes an ODST 2 I hope they release another themed controller with it lol loved my old 360 one. Got it in storage somewhere haha
It's stupid and makes Spartans not special by having so many
If we get campaign expansions in Infinite, I'm only asking for an ODST protagonized chapter (unlikely, I know, but it would be great)
LNG making some amazing content as usual!
