F for the Classic Shotgun in Halo Infinite ;(

F
You don't know it won't be in the game. We just saw a new one
Just wait for the "The classic shotgun is BACK in the new dlc" they'll pull on us 6 months after release
My favorite shotgun would probably be the “Rocket Launcher” variant in halo reach. It always seems to kill me whenever I use it in a fight. Not sure why.
What is the "Rocket Launcher" variant you speak of?
@@varindralakhan3654 grenade launcher
I die when I use the rocket launcher as a shotgun too.
I miss the custom edition shotgun that fired fuel rods
@@walkerfilms6917 Oh, I had a feeling so.😂
Thanks
I swear hes got to be using the same voice clip when he says "Ping"
man Bungie had some kinda dev magic with CE. So many weapons are at their best there. Whatta gem
It's because of the damages. They hit a sweet spot there with them.
Then they got scared and made every gun suck... Reach kinda tried getting back tho
Yep. It was a perfect storm. IMO the only issue with Halo CE is the mission Keyes, which isn't that great. But other than that, it's perfect.
It also helps that there were far less weapons in CE than in the next installments
@@somebarysomebarysomesomeso1618 bs
He did he said “poop from a butt” we can all go home.
I watched that 3 times just to make sure I heard that correctly. Glad to know I didn’t.
We’re all already home, though 🥺
There won't be a home if we don't stop the banished
no.
When you run out of halo weapons to make videos on you could do something like the UI or characters or something

@@LateNightHalo How about evolution of chief's armor in halo games?
@@KratosisGod Evolution of MJOLNIR
@@SkirmisherKal no just chief's armor specifically.
"Hey, grif, what am I going to do without my *shotgun.* I lost my *shotgun!* *shotgun* dammit!"

God dang that scene was so epic. Totally caught me off guard
He played as a red spartan in most of his clips when using the shotgun
Wait... what are you up to... do i hear a.... CAR???!!!!
Ohhhh ma boi sarge
One other thing that makes Halo's shotgun stand out from the rest is that it's Australian. By which I mean it's upside down. Usually pump action shotguns have the magazine tube on the underside and the barrel on the top, but on the Halo shotgun this is reversed. The Russians made a shotgun in real life called the RMB-93 that uses this layout, as does the South African Neostead 2000. The manual for Combat Evolved on PC mentions that it actually has two magazine tubes under the heat shield, which makes me think the Neostead was likely the inspiration because it also works this way. Interestingly the real life Neostead is a bullpup, but in the normally bullpup-happy world of Halo art design it's been turned into a conventional firearm.
There's another real life shotgun in bullpup config with two tubes: the KSG. It's the only one of that type I know of.
Wait....
oh fuck *offffffffffffff*
Well Australia is one of the most important country's in Halo
I like how halo's shotguns all reload from the top as opposed to the bottom like real-life shotguns
That's much more distinct than the flashlight. The top mounted tube is weird for a shotgun (especially when CE came out), but it makes Halo's shotgun much more iconic because how many IRL shotguns have their tube above the barrel? I can only think of one, the UTS-15.
And it's an 8 Gauge (~21mm)! Which is very strange as 8 gauge was pretty much only used for elephants, buffalo, rhino, etc. Makes sense for use by a spartan, but the marines must hate using the thing!
@@halo7oo well if i was going to use something to kill an 8 foot tall ape monster i know what i'd use.
@@halo7oo In the opening cutscene of Halo Wars 1 ( the "five long years" one), u can see a marine struggling with the shotgun recoil, but in the most badass way possible
@Grimwol Could be an advanced helical tube design, similar to a PP19 Bizon.
Reach shotgun feels better in multiplayer, CE is best in single player
This. I always felt that CE's shotgun never did much for me in multiplayer. Maybe because I never played custom games. Either way, I'm always a fan of the Reach-onwards shotguns in multiplayer
Yea the reach shotgun is really fun
Shadewrecker I thinks it’s because the magnum is just so good. The shotgun doesn’t kill that much faster beyond point blank.
I played ruby's rebalanced halo 3, god it felt good having CEs shotgun range in halo 3
@@MintChip1 thats because it is different in game, search up the difference it has something to do with the bullet magnetism
Correction: CE shotgun can be backpack reloaded :)
CE version with more ammo but Halo 2 green sights.
huh, neat!
@@Dashx64 Halo 3 Reach had a really interesting downgrade of 12 shells into 6 :((((((( CE version with green sights that's beauty
Late Night Gaming YES! HE NOTICED!
I love CE's mechanics and glitches.
Halo: Combat Evolved's is the best by far. What a design. What a monster to behold. :)
But in multiplayer?
Reach's shotgun is the best.
I agree with this
Almost all of halo ce's weapons are the best iteration in the series. It's pretty incredible how much they got right first try with that game.
@Andre De Jesus same
1 & 2 at the top for me, easily (especially the first one)
*is so bloody sleek I love it*
Halo 4 is the best stats wise
Halo Reach shotgun is my favorite, I felt like it was perfect for countering swords but not overpowered too
Same
I agree, even if you can't kill on first shot, you can melee block the sword for a second chance
It was pathetic, tbh
Not Alpharius The only pathetic shotgun was OG H2s, that shit was downright useless. Also the remastered version barely made it serviceable
I never feel safer in an FPS than I do when I have one of Halo's shotguns in my hands.
Picturing Waspinator with a Halo shotgun makes me happy.

@@Waspinator1998 Made my day! 😄
Waspinator1998 yessssss
I will say, the reduced range of Halo 3’s shotgun sucked, but the greater emphasis on melee combat in that game helped make the shotgun far more useful and deadly than presented here (IMO)
H3 shotgun was the worst version of the shotgun.
@@ub3rfr3nzy94 agreed, it’s objectively terrible. Just Halo 3’s melee mechanics allowed it to remain competitive
@@theRok29 it was good against brutes up close for stripping their armour and then meleeing them. But later on in the game brutes are usually in packs and you don't wanna get close to them.
There should be a skull where you unlock the Halo CE versions of shotgun, pistol, and assault rifle.
@@ub3rfr3nzy94 It was still fun and useful against flood and brutes because they came to you anyway.
I miss when video games had longer-ranged shotguns, like Doom and Halo CE. Now shotguns are ridiculously short-ranged to make them ‘balanced’ in online multiplayer
Fuck multiplayer, man.
That's why I like Battlefield 4, they give shotguns a more realistic range to the point some of them could be used at snipers, Which is great considering shotguns are for hunting birds, which usually aren't close to you.
Gerardo Andrade Yeah, and in some levels in halo 1 you could use the shotgun in the place of the assault rifle
blaze of glory??
I know this is way too late but try killing floor 2. It has some of the most satisfying shotguns ever with great range and to make things better, enemy dismemberment in that game is great.
Like pretty much everything else Halo, the Combat Evolved Shotgun is my favorite in every way, including the stiff animations.
@Andy Gygi And that is what makes it the superior game, nothing overwhelming or underwhelming.
@Andy Gygi I think there's something to be said for that, but in the sense that, with less going on, it's easier for them to put more work, time, and attention into the way the gunplay is balanced. They put a lot of love in that game
@No Lives Matter Reach brought it back for the workhorse guns, but Halo CE has objectively the best weapons including animations and utility.
I love most weapons in Halo CE. It would’ve been perfect if the energy sword was included, as promised by the E3 trailer.
I've started calling the post-Reach shotgun the "DOOM 2016" shotgun
Exponaut R-01 the Doom 2016 shotgun was ugly but not as ugly as the H4/5 shotgun haha
Personally I like the design of the doom 2016 shotgun
I guess it was the combination of having not played 4 or 5 in years then playing Doom 2016 and they seemed identical, not that I would pick either of the newer Halo shotguns over it.
But both Halo 4 (2012) and Halo 5 (2015) came out before Doom (2016), so if anything, in Doom, it should called the "343" shotgun. And in general, I don't agree. The combat shotgun in Doom is awful, it barely does any damage, nothing like the shotguns in Halo 4 & 5. The Super Shotgun is good, but it is ugly.
Oh I'm not mechanically comparing them, and it did get buffed in Eternal.
I only brought up Doom 2016 because I hadn't touched Halo 4/5 for years after that
Late Night Gaming: Try to avoid this version of the shotgun as much as you can.
Me: Haha shoty go bang.
haha gun go boom
NOOOO YOU CAN'T JUST USE THIS SHOTGUN I SAID SO
hehe shotgun go pow
*Project T's joke but worse*
Haha we're funny too, guys!
Late night gaming is retarded
Flood?? What flood? You mean that messy splatter all over the floor?
One thing I enjoy the most about the reach shotgun is the feeling of one tapping an opponent. It feels like I shredded them apart. It has something to do with the shield break sounds and the pellets hitting the body. It sounds amazing.
Maybe evolution of the brutes and there weapons as well as art style through every halo game including halo wars 2? Might be interesting because they have changed quite drastically in every halo game they have been in
Theres not much brutes weapons, i hope they will comeback in infinite

@@theyrbaning4751 well looks like you got your wish
The Halo 2 Anniversary and Halo Reach Shotguns have to be my favorite designs
M90 & M45. 👌
I still like the 3 design though that shotgun is still useless. Wish we could just get the CE shotgun stats back.
I've never been a huge fan of the Reach/CEA design.
I agree with H2 though, not necessarily the Anniversary version, just H2's in general, also HCE which is pretty much the same but gray, I know H3 has pretty much the same design but I think it just looks more badass in CE.
The H4 shotgun though... That is ugly..
@@cookiesontoast9981 Halo 4 and 5s shotgun looks like the Infinity to me
@@cookiesontoast9981 yeah when I saw the CEA design I just thought it looked off. The Halo 4 design though definitely looks more like a model ship than a gun like he side. It just doesn't have the UNSC utilitarian design to it. Think the Reach assault rifle. I prefer the OG Halo AR but the Reach one looks what I think of when I see human tech, it's designed with function over form much like their ships.
In Halo 3, the shotgun is actually very useful against Jiralhanae because one shot destroys their shields, and the second shot kills them. Against the Flood, one shot is generally enough to kill a combat form and it oftentimes destroys the body so it can't be reanimated.
The 343 shotgun looks more like something you'd find in Doom
Yes but its worse
And that makes it awesome
@@demonblackfire1210 not really. It's more like a weird mix of the shotgun from doom 2016 and, a model frigate. It's really weird looking

CE is my personal favorite. It’s simple sleek design can’t be beat. The animations were great and the view model helped it out a ton as well.
I always remember the iron sights on the CE shotgun as little “bunny ears”
Fun fact: a company called ATI used to make a shotgun heat shield that replicated the one on the Halo 2 shotgun. In fact it was even called the "Halo 2 Heatshield"

Ah I see you're a man of culture aswell.
The blunderbuss kicks ass of both enemies and you😂
will this ever die???
answer: no...
Yes
Seriously, though, I legit love the blunderbuss
My favorite Halo shotgun is the CE variant since it actually has range. Every other shotgun has it's pellets disappear into the Void after traveling 5 feet.
I loved how in SPV3 they made the shotgun’s lights indicate the ammo left. CE blue when full. 2 green when halfway out, 1 shot left it’s orange, and then out of ammo it’s red like Reach’s!
11:40 Why does 343/Halo 4 hate players having ammo? Seriously, can anyone name a reloadable weapon that hasn't had a decrease in its max clips, the only ones I can think of are Battle Rifle and Fuel Rod.
Backup ammo gets nerfed too.
They did that to force you to use other weapons which I do agree it's bullsh*t. It should be player choice to what weapon he/she wants to use to suit their playstyle. Instead they made it a way to punish players for their choices instead of making it where all weapons work equally in every situation given that the environment pathways allows it.
Oh their are 20 sniper jackals, you have to use that sniper, player! Ignores*
Oh I see you're ignoring that drop cache with the sniper in it because you want use that plasma pistol? f*ck you! Sniped in that one way in out alley way*

@Grimwol So it WASN'T just me. I knew it.
The Mauler seems to be a forgotten weapon, it's a shame it wasn't utilized more
Always found it odd that, from Reach onward, they removed the shotgun's chrome ejection port on the right side and had the shells eject from the magazine's loading port.
I know it's from a sci-fi video game, but that would be an awful design if the gun were real.
the Ithaca 37 would like to have a word with you: ruclips.net/video/CayMjNvx4Bg/видео.html
@@keithrockel410 True, but the Ithaca's breech is at the bottom, and won't eject shells back at your face. Also that's a pretty old design and not used by any active military/security force in the world.
@@Arbbym9er yeah, but those shells were ejected with such force and it was so reliable because it only had the one port for dirt to gunk up, it was the preferred shotgun by the US marines back in Vietnam, not saying its practical by today's standards, just that its possible. The shotgun also had a slam fire function, which is pretty fun.
Nah there are tons of top ejecting guns that don't launch empty brass into the person's face. Take the pps41 sub machine gun for example, it had a top ejection port and launched empty brass high in the air, no issue with brass hitting you though, the only downside is empty brass falls on you after which is more of a nuisance than anything
CE shotgun has insane range too. Mostly useful against Flood instead at such long ranges

Hey, just wanted to say that your videos are incredibly well-made. Thank you for this interesting retrospective on one of my favorite videogame weapons!
Orginal Halo CE shotgun is and always has been my favorite. I think a struggle more with which is my second favorite. I debate whether it's the Reach or 3 shotgun. I loved shotty snipers in Halo 3, so I have fond memories of that one, but I felt the Reach shotty was better.
surprised that it wasn’t mentioned how much sprint impacted utility in later games, making it much easier to close the distance and get in range
This is off topic, but used to think that the whole "space zombies" thing of halo was a cliche but they made it unique in how they spread, how they function, and their origins origines
Halo: Reach's shotgun was probably one of the most rewarding for me, killing sprees, easy pick offs in campaign, and it just has an aesthetic I appreciate.

Off-topic, I never got an Xbox One and as a result skipped Halo 5. I've been watching quite a few Halo vids after getting MCC on PC, and every video I find out a little bit more about H5. I'm progressively more amazed at the strange decisions made by 343 with the franchise. Glad that I never played it, although I wouldn't not try it if it ever does come to the MCC.

The underlying “ping” you hear from the classic Halo shotgun sound is the sound of the bolt cycling on the SPAS-12 in semi-auto.
Which is ironic given the shotgun in Halo was always pump action.
the fact that no shotgun manufacturers employ a top-loading design or even anything remotely close to it, despite it being an obvious improvement handling wise is very strange. the closest IRL example I've seen is a browning auto 5 that somebody rebuilt with the receiver and mag tube flipped upside down.

Gotta say, the Shotgun introduction in the 343 Guilty Spark level could not be more perfect. You have barely encountered the flood and is struggling to understand their patterns and attacks and them you find it on the floor clearly indicating that your going to need it and it's like the best weapon to handle the flood.
i honestly really love halo 5's shotgun sound effects, it's just missing the classic SPAS-12 "ping". halo 5's sound design in general is honestly so much better than people give it credit for, and the only downside is how little of the classic games' identity it holds.

I disagree. The Halo 5 shotgun doesn't sound nor looks like a shotgun from Halo. It doesn't have the punch that a buck shotgun should have, and it lacks identity to make it unique. CE Shotgun: the iconic one everyone likes to talk about
Halo 2 shotgun: Actually strong, but bungie accidentally made the gun feel weak.
Halo 3 shotgun: the halo 2 shotgun with a new coat of paint that likes to pretend it’s among the best, even though it’s not.
Halo Reach Shotgun: Detailed gritty model? Badass. Strong over-the-top reload? Badass. Red colors? Badass. Used by Emile? Double badass. It’s the shotgun that immediately makes you feel cool.
Halo 4 shotgun: The only real problem is the model change. It looks like almost every UNSC gun in the game. In my opinion, it fills the role of a “heavy shotgun.” Maybe infinite can use the OG classic shotgun as a Normal shotgun, And then use this one as a stronger version with more kickback and less ammo.
Halo 5 shotgun: we don’t talk about this one. Let’s be honest, the Scattershot was the REAL shotgun in Halo 4 and 5.
Lawgiver: it’s fun to use, but they butchered the gun with it’s wacky paint job.
Blaze of Glory: better than we give it credit for. It was fun for Level 2, the only campaign mission it was in,
Oathsworn: it’s ok. They tried to make Kelly as cool as Emile, but it didn’t work, and the Oathsworn shows that.
My favorite is the CE/ CE anniversary shotgun. It’s just so fun in the campaign.
I completely agree, the H2 shotty is ACTUALLY good in multiplayer, it consistently beats sword for me and i'm an average player. And of course LNG was gonna pretend the H3 shotty was an upgrade when it was actually statistically weaker in nearly EVERY category
troly poly Yeah. The H2 shotgun is actually pretty good, but the weird pitched noise(in the anniversary) and the piss-poor kickback and slow reload make it kinda boring to use. It’s just my least favorite shotgun to use because of that.
I'd love to the evolution of the plasma pistol throughout the franchise next. Keep up the good content Late Night!
I luv these evolution videos I always learn somthing new about the weapons
I feel like you should have also mentioned CE is the only shotgun that has a real life correct animation for how you should reload a shotgun. All the others ether eject a live shell or don't load in a live shell.
And halo 4/5's variant has bad ergonomics to the point that you are loading the shells into the barrel rather than the shell tube. It's always bothered me
Edit: also the halo reach shotgun doesnt have a heat shield. That's a shell counter considering it's on the top, where the shell tube is. ... The barrel is on the bottom
Ce's shotgun was perfect... I thought I was the only one that noticed that in reach / CEA so I was angry when seeing it replaced
Halo 2 and 3 versions are the best imo

The Halo CE Shotgun pumping animation is just so satisfying to watch

My favorite shotgun is actually halo 4s I just love the look and sound of the weapon but I do understand why people don’t like it and that’s 100% fine to me
Super radical putting the loader on the top of the shotgun. Still my favorite feature
I like how it looks in the HUD in CE and Reach. The exact angle and how its held.
My absolute favorite part of the Halo Reach shotgun is easily the recoil animation. It just feels so powerful and beefy
I'm attempting to play halo 3 on legendary and the shotty is really helpful.
Halo 4's shotgun has my favorite design
My favourite shotgun is 3's due solely to the sound it makes. I love that sound.
Next we need:
Evolution of the SMG
Evolution of the Rocket Launchers
Evolution of 1-off/game unique weapons. (Grenade Launcher, Plasma Caster, etc.)
Evolution of game substitutions (Focus Rifle, Concussion Rifle, etc.)
