BioDefault for real tho this gun is why I stoped playing CE multiplayer, like oh dw we nerfed it now it’s only a 3 head shot kill with a fucking pistol. And everyone either uses it or gets killed by it. I don’t know what matches my dude in the vid was getting but I have never seen a shotgun player kill a magnum player, been on both sides of that encounter and a good magnum user can land the 3 shots before the shotgun can even be cocked a second time. Gun is definitely one of the most unbalanced weapons in any multiplayer. Right up there with the noob tube and one man army combo.
Just as a fyi. Bungie compiled all the files that make up halo ce (also known as TAGS) together on a per map basis not as a shared system. The reason the magnum is so good in multiplayer is because one of the devs decided it needed to be stronger and changed the values in the weapon tag without anyone knowing just before the final compliling of the multiplayer maps. Singleplayer already having been compiled by that time was unaffected by the change thus why the difference in the original xbox version. The reason the MCC port retains the overpowered multiplayer settings was that when bungie handed over the files to gearbox interactive, so that they could create the pc port, the tag file for the magnum contained the edited numbers. Therefore when they recompiled the campaign for pc it was no longer different. The reason this is relevant is because 343 used the pc version to port onto the xbone for mcc that is also why the aiming feels weird compared to original xbox, its because gearbox edited a ton of the weapon files to work better with the highly accurate mouse and keyboard controls and therefore you have less bullet and reticule magnetisim across the board due to not needing it with the high precision of mouse and keyboard.
Blox117 depends on the game and situation, a sniper or ranged weapon might be better, but generally in halo its more fun with a controller, its more of an advantage if you have a keyboard because of the twitchiness and accuracy, but most of the time controllers are better, unless of course your playing an rts or strategy type game.. All in all, favorite version is the Halo 5 CE Magnum, but if I had to pick on to rely on more commonly it would be the original CE Magnum because it’s ammo capacity is a lot higher, able to hold 120 extra rounds.
Also point about the ODST Magnum: It's accuracy is SO MUCH better than the Carbine's. You probably don't notice it on lower difficulties, but on Legendary and especially LASO it's a chore to use the Carbine compared to the Magnum.
The halo 2 magnum truly was a average marine’s sidearm that belonged in its holster. And yet, it’s the magnum that my introduction to HALO started with. And my 8 yr old self loved to dual wield them on Cairo.
Can you do a Halo assault rifle series analysis? I now absolutely adore the Halo 2 Anniversary version as it feels like a nice combination of Halo 4 and Reach’s versions with a hint of Halo 3.
I honestly really liked the halo 2 magnum. Not because of how I preformed but because of its appearance. It went from a weapon designed for tour average 7ft super soldier to a charming sidearm that your average human would have able to utilize without shattering ever bone in their hand.
In my own head-cannon, the Halo 2 magnum is the civilian/police version of the pistol, hence why it's soo weak because it's not designed to combat alien armor and shields.
CE magnum has always been a fond friend of mine. I remember headshoting a friend of mine in a scorpion across blood gulch and winning the match. It sounds unbelievable but shit, I know what happened it was awesome. Halo 2 it was a great combo weapon with the smg but damn, saying it was essentially useless is un called for. Sure the battle rifle did a better job but if you played fast and dangerous especially legendary it pulled its weight
8:24 I've never noticed the Korean letters on top of the slide, this is quite literally the first time I ever noticed that! What's the story behind that?
A couple of the markings (also on the CE and H2 magnum) are translated to the number 7. Which is obviously a reference to bungees love for the number. Canonically though, I do think a lot of the weapons and some of the armors have their origins in Korea and Japan
10:40 - They focus on THOSE items because they are MORE dynamic, and SERVER PREDICTION is harder to use for them. It's easier to predict a bullet, than a bouncing grenade. The sniper, rocket, and rigid bodies (cones, barrels, fusion coils, anything that moves via physics) likely causes much more network chatter and priority than other elements. They also did this to allocate precious server resources (game was built around p2p --which I prefer as the game can't be shut down in the future-- and not dedicated servers) as the xbox 360 could only process so much without performance hiccups. It takes A LOT of cpu to verify player data, projectiles, rigid bodies in motion, etc to prevent movement hacks that halo 2 had en masse. MS has kind of given up on xbox 360, so h3 now is riddled with cheaters online. The network code wouldn't "freak out," it would just move these dynamic elements (non-projectiles) to the "front" of each line of objects to be updated each game loop, and if they couldn't get to the end of the "queue," the items that were missed would be given a "bump" to their priority so they'd be more likely to be updated in future game loops (as each frame loop had an allocated amount of time it could run to maintain a healthy FPS). The dynamic items had such a high priority that it'd take multiple game loops to update projectiles before their priority was higher than dynamic items in high action situations. Most of the time this was fine, as server prediction would handle a lot of the projectiles, but with latency, network issues, and other variables, it could miss-judge data and you'd get oddities.
@@gavichealsomething2169 There is more than that. It has a much slower firerate unless you hold down the fire button which will cause it to shoot constantly like in CE.
Halo 2 Magnum had so much potential in concept, needed a bigger mag and a slight accuracy and damage boost. Would have been so good to have a headshot close/medium range weapon that can fire as fast as you can pull the trigger.
After Halo CE, the Magnum seemingly got a lot smaller in terms of it's iverall size and never sized back up. I kinda wish we would go back to the chunkier look of the CE Magnum.
@@LateNightHalo bro i can give you my points of view in a video if you want like we can discuss it if you wanna make a video about it. No hate we both love Halo :)
I'm no fan of Halo 4 or 5 in terms of art style or gameplay but man... that Halo 5 Magnum is pretty sexy, it's sleek and well proportioned unlike the Halo 4 Magnum which in my opinion is repulsive to look at haha Is Evolution of Halo's Assault Rifle coming? :D Wouldn't mind seeing an analytic video for most Halo's weapons and vehicles
some criticism: while i really enjoy your videos, your topics and how you engage an actual discussion, your audio files have always seemed kinda off to me. at least lately. most of the times the volume is very low and the voice file seems chopped up at points.(3:44) (5:05) maybe try to just re-record some lines and speak a little bit louder in general. other than that i enjoyed this video once again, stay safe my dude!
Anonymes Arschgesicht thank you for the feedback dude! Would it help if the video as a whole was louder or specifically my voice being raised while the music stays the same?
@@LateNightHalo i actually think in this video the music/voice balance was pretty good! so i think it would help if youd just raise your voice (or get closer to the mic) hope i could help!
Dissenting opinion, the Halo 2A magnum has actually really decent one paired with smg or plasma pistol. Not very good by itself, which I don't think anybody would argue, but a precision weapon is a precision weapon once shields are down.
My favorite Magnums are either the Halo CE Magnum for being so god damn strong or for the Halo 5 basic version, because it feels snappy, fast yet has quiet the punch to it. It really is a tie, because the sandboxes are so vastly different. I would like to suggest the next big thing in terms of firearms from Halo : The Rocketlauncher. Now this is a weapon that would fit into a different category of reasons why you would use it and I am quiet interested what your takes are on that gun, especially since with almost each iteration of Halo, a new competitor would arrive from Fuel Rod cannon to Spartan Laser. With that being said, I would like to give some minor constructive criticsm. I notice that with this video, you kinda make a similar sort of video reminiscant of the documentry styled videos of the Legendary Ahoy does with his takes on talking about firearms from both in and outside the realm of video games. In his style he goes fullblown documentary on every video, making you believe this was done on the Discovery Channel, highly professional. My minor criticsm is just that in your approach, you sometimes say phrases like " guard-thing" at 17:43 to describe the appearance of the gun. Most of the video feels proffesional with the occational meme tossed in there which is perfectly fine. Its just that minor way you described the gun that took me out of the nearly immersive , documentary talk about all those magnums in the history of Halo. IF you plan to do more of these videos with an intent to make them feel like a documentary , please consider avoiding such wording. That would increase the value so much more of these particular videos. Other than that, this was very entertaining and educational. I wasn't aware of the major differences of the CE Magnum on the OG Xbox vs the PC Port!
Man i discovered your videos not a long time ago and i have to say i am obssesed i love the way you talk about my favorite saga and all the love and research that your videos have i really like passing time watching your videos on full depht and then rewatching them as im doing another things love the way you talk and express about this beautiful saga love your videos im trying to see them all to show my support and hope everyone is having a great way love your content 😊
Did you not play a lot of Halo 1? The pistol was by far the best weapon in multiplayer. And yes I could definitely outperform any other gun. It 3 shots from any range!
I loved the ODST magnum. I got to where I could easily kill across the map with it. I got all the sniping achievements in the game with it. I beat the game with the magnum as my main weapon. Only thing I couldn't take down with it is Hunters. Had a rocket launcher for those and vehicles.
@@sillentgamer64 Yeah! At least i don't have to wait 3 seconds between every shot... I can empty the magazine reload and empty it again... While at the same time with the H3's magnum only 4 bullets have left the gun
@@SPNKr02 Yeah but my point was in multiplayer it takes more shots to kill with the H2 magnum than what's in the clip, which means you have to reload at least once or dual wield to get a kill. H3's Magnum kills in 5 shots, so you dont have to reload or dual wield just to kill with it. Obviously the pistol in both games is more viable in campaign when you have enemies like grunts and flood that die in 1 headshot.
Halo 2 duel wielding ... Clunky? WHAT!? Madness. I used to use the Halo 2 pistol all the time. Usually with an SMG or Plasma Rifle. But SMG+PR was awesome.
There’s no lights on the iron sights is because you don’t need them when your average marine and a spartan super soldier has an advanced HUD that links to the gun. And those lights are used on real life guns in low light situations. And today and in the Halo that’s gonna give you away if it’s bright enough for enemy’s with NVGs or HUDs with NVG capabilities

@@Blox117 It's not the PC aim whatsoever is weird. It's the Campaign accuracy that is weird for the mutiplayer due to Gearbox's bad port. 13:17 he twisted his words
Loved the style of the video, that thanos joke killed me
Can't stand thanos jokes (over-saturated market) but that one was great
Can you do a Halo assault rifle series analysis?
I now absolutely adore the Halo 2 Anniversary version as it feels like a nice combination of Halo 4 and Reach’s versions with a hint of Halo 3.
When did they add the assault rifle to halo 2?
ShrimpKraken
It’s only available within the Halo 2 Anniversary multiplayer.
Halo 5 has one of the best magnums, can’t deny it
12:31 that was the most righteous bonk i have ever seen
I honestly really liked the halo 2 magnum. Not because of how I preformed but because of its appearance. It went from a weapon designed for tour average 7ft super soldier to a charming sidearm that your average human would have able to utilize without shattering ever bone in their hand.
ODST magnum is underrated
even calling it a magnum is overrated
Folor Bipple what would you call it?
"where it be big or small or *unintelligible*..."
“Though there aren’t any skeletons, so it’s not that spooky”😂😂😂
I personally like the halo 2 magnum more than the halo 3 one.
*FIGHT ME*
Same, I love the fast fire rate of the Halo 2 magnum compared to the Halo 3 version.
>FIGHT ME
Wouldn't even be a challenge, since you're bringing the Halo 2 pistol to battle.
Only thing I like about the Halo 2 Pistol is it’s hilariously fast fire rate. Everything else about it sucks.
If they made the h2 mag take like 3 less headshots it would be dope
Tbh everytime I played infection on a h2a it was op might be because of the game type.
I'm feeling the crisp new mic, but also noticing the hush-hush voice. Needs some tweaking, but I like it so far.
His "I'm not begging, I swear" gets me every single time.
Him: " don't use H2A pistol".
Me:" I'm gonna use it!"
I remember there being a part in the novelization of CE where Chief was sniping Covenant with the magnum just because it had a scope.
🎵🎶 All I want for Christmas is for you do a video on the shotgun 🎵🎶
Pov: you never played halo but this gun just got added to destiny and you're wondering what's up
The Halo CE Shotgun also has unique reload animation after firing it empty

I've never noticed the Korean letters on top of the slide, this is quite literally the first time I ever noticed that!
What's the story behind that?
That’s not Korean. That’s a number.
A couple of the markings (also on the CE and H2 magnum) are translated to the number 7. Which is obviously a reference to bungees love for the number. Canonically though, I do think a lot of the weapons and some of the armors have their origins in Korea and Japan
I hate that everyone dismisses the H2 pistol. I love just fucking ramping that thing in MP
The ODST pistol is actually really good. While it can't take down shields, its accuracy is amazing, which makes it great for noob combos.
I remember a joke I made with my friend a few years ago
"The gun pointed at the head of the universe"
"And its my pistol"
A thing that almost every halo player does:
Running around punching the air when there are no enemies to kill
Indeed. It's my favourite pastime! Lol! : )
Has a video of halo pistol
“Let’s make the thumbnail halo grenades”
Lol
Edit: he changed the thumbnail :(
Aw man

"That it d-d.... didn't"
Nobody else notice that?
There's actually a third magnum in Reach, The Anniversary Magnum. Found in anniversary game modes.
I don't know why but I read your comment as "there's a magnum in the third Reich"
That's just the Reach Magnum, just with the same damage levels as the original CE Magnum
@@gavichealsomething2169 There is more than that. It has a much slower firerate unless you hold down the fire button which will cause it to shoot constantly like in CE.
@@purplepeak8575 it's still not a new Magnum
@@gavichealsomething2169 The same can be said about the zero bloom magnum.
Halo 5: does something
Every Halo RUclipsr:
Yeah that might not be good
Seeing as mostly halo 5 “does something stupid” yeah?
@@LateNightHalo bro i can give you my points of view in a video if you want like we can discuss it if you wanna make a video about it. No hate we both love Halo :)
I'm no fan of Halo 4 or 5 in terms of art style or gameplay but man... that Halo 5 Magnum is pretty sexy, it's sleek and well proportioned unlike the Halo 4 Magnum which in my opinion is repulsive to look at haha
Is Evolution of Halo's Assault Rifle coming? :D Wouldn't mind seeing an analytic video for most Halo's weapons and vehicles
I mean at least halo tries to blend the modern and old artstyles non like halo 4 ( man i hated halo 4)
some criticism: while i really enjoy your videos, your topics and how you engage an actual discussion, your audio files have always seemed kinda off to me. at least lately.
most of the times the volume is very low and the voice file seems chopped up at points.(3:44)
(5:05) maybe try to just re-record some lines and speak a little bit louder in general.
other than that i enjoyed this video once again, stay safe my dude!
Anonymes Arschgesicht thank you for the feedback dude! Would it help if the video as a whole was louder or specifically my voice being raised while the music stays the same?
Anonymes Arschgesicht, your name seems to be chosen wisely ☜(゚ヮ゚☜)
@@LateNightHalo
i actually think in this video the music/voice balance was pretty good! so i think it would help if youd just raise your voice (or get closer to the mic)
hope i could help!
I wonder if the popularity of the gunfighter in H5 is what lead to the MK50’s design and performance in Infinite.
Dissenting opinion, the Halo 2A magnum has actually really decent one paired with smg or plasma pistol. Not very good by itself, which I don't think anybody would argue, but a precision weapon is a precision weapon once shields are down.
1:02 the shotgun has a unique reload after firing all the shells
Halo Infinite Devs: "I don't know, just put a Sig Sauer pistol in the game or some shit, unique art design is hard man!"
That's a different gun from the magnum I think
@@vegitoblue3613 I hope so.
The Halo 5 magnum felt like the side kick in infinite

Does anyone else miss how snipers and magnums could one shot hunters?
Roy Yea
Redbrick28 studios Gaming yes
No
Halo:Whoops, I dropped my MULTIPLAYER VALUE PATCH for my MAGNUM RIFLE
Personally I really like the Halo 2/3 ODST version of the Magnum as it felt nice to use
Did you not play a lot of Halo 1? The pistol was by far the best weapon in multiplayer. And yes I could definitely outperform any other gun. It 3 shots from any range!
Mikey Dudek sounds like you don’t play a lot of CE multiplayer if you think the magnum was the only good gun
I loved the ODST magnum. I got to where I could easily kill across the map with it. I got all the sniping achievements in the game with it. I beat the game with the magnum as my main weapon. Only thing I couldn't take down with it is Hunters. Had a rocket launcher for those and vehicles.
My friend: why you reload of after shooting one bullet
Me: ITS THE LAW
When everyone thinks Halo 2 has the worst Magnum.
When it's actualy....
Halo 3's
At least you don't have to reload with 3's to get a kill lol
@@sillentgamer64
Yeah!
At least i don't have to wait 3 seconds between every shot...
I can empty the magazine reload and empty it again...
While at the same time with the H3's magnum only 4 bullets have left the gun
The halo 2 magnum was great against the flood, and the fire was great, better than 3s imo
Agreed
ODST version of the magnum reincarnated in Halo 5 is my fav.
Ok, but its a game, not real life.
Rule of cool>realism.
Late Night Gaming sorry I’m just that one nerd sitting in a corner playing Arma 3 and mil sim games 😐
I actually assumed the pistol in halo 2 was a different weapon because of how different it was. Didnt realise till now it was meant to be a magnum.
In no particular order.
REACH, 4, 5, CE.
RIP stan lee 😭
Fandom Tribal idk I’m sure everyone at marvel will do a tribute video also maybe at the end of the next mcu film
What does it feel like to have a celebrity you love die? I still have yet to experience that, Stan Lee is cool and I appreciate what he did for the comic/manga industry but I don't really care that he died.
I guess I'll find out when Masako Nozawa dies soon, she is really old.

Can't wait to see the revised video so I can hear you talk about the Sidekick and the Forerunner
Listen here, halo 2 magnum was good, especially when duel wieled, I liked It
Halo CE (Xbox): Jesus as a sidearm
Halo 2: Poo as a sidearm
Halo CE (Gearbox): Weird, but still godly
Halo 3: Sluggish
Halo 3 ODST: Very useful with a Plasma Pistol, or Brute Plasma Rifle
Halo Reach: Great alternative to the DMR
Halo 4: Statistically better than the Reach one, other than the problems unscoping... and the primary precision weapons like the DMR and Battle Rifle makes it redundant
Halo 4 CTF: It would be great if we can drop the flag
Halo 2A: Still a pile of turd shaped like a gun
Halo 5 (Basic): Too dominant
Halo 5 (Ext Mag): Still too dominant if it's on the map
Halo 5 (Gunfighter): Useful backup to any primary weapons
Halo 5 (Suppressed): I never used it as much
Halo 5 (Whispered Truth): Basically the Magnum, Battle Rifle and a Speed Boost had a baby
Halo 5 (M6D): Jesus as a sidearm with bullet magnetism on crack
Halo 5 CTF: Pretty much better than the Halo 4 version, since we have the ability to drop the flag
what is weird? PC aim is superior to console aim
@@Blox117 It's not the PC aim whatsoever is weird. It's the Campaign accuracy that is weird for the mutiplayer due to Gearbox's bad port. The Multiplayer version of the pistol has different variables, like less bullet spread and accuracy. This really shows on the MCC, since the MCC uses the Gearbox port instead of the original 2001 version.
@@rosegraham5283 thats good then, console games have too much aim assist and bullet magnetism
I was just playing the head to head playlist on Halo 5 and the suppressed Magnum is godly.
13:03 were you also invited to 343 and knew about Reach coming to Halo MCC this whole time? hmmm.
I must be odd cuz I’d always look for the magnum in Halo 2 lol
Needs an update with infinite and the forerunner cameo in destiny 2
Back in highschool i had a computer class my senior year. Teacher was really chill, and she let us play games on the pc’s. Someone brought in Halo CE on a flash drive, and from then on we wpuld LAN every day. The magnum was my go to. Sniping people out of warthogs on blood gulch is one of the fondest memories i have of those days. CE will never get old
