If you told me that in 2023 I would be on the verge of tears watching a godzilla movie I would think you were insane. Such a great cinematic experience!
I just saw this movie again today with my brothers. This is a beautiful masterpiece. This has the best human story of any Godzilla movie, the visual effects are absolutely spectacular, especially for 15 million dollars, incredible music, and both times I've gone to see this, I've shed tears not just from hearing the nostalgic music, but also from the characters. I was hooked right from the beginning and wanted to see these character's survive Godzilla's rampage. Hands down one of the best if not the best Godzilla movie ever made, and dare I say it, an awesome early Christmas present.
Minus one probably is the best film of the year and the best godzilla film there is. A godzilla film that has interesting characters that you actually sympathize with and feels human. The film with be fine without godzilla because of how good the humans and the story is. Also the messaging about valuing one's life, anti-nuclear, anti-war and to never give up. This film and piece of art was made 15 million USD below, the movie gave us the message to have hope and seeing the film definitely gave me hope with cinema once again.

Godzilla Minus One is a groundbreaking, harrowing journey. There's never been a Godzilla film full of tragedy, emotion, and perseverance. These characters mean so much to us that it's genuinely scary whenever Godzilla shows up. Depending on the character trying to escape his wrath, Godzilla might become the literal embodiment of death, fear, or war. It's like he's the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse wrapped into one pissed-off atomic reptile. Godzilla Minus One is not just a great film; it's an experience that needs to be witnessed firsthand in theaters.

Probably the best Godzilla movie since the original along with Shin, but personally I put this over Shin by a good deal because the human story is so dang powerful and beautiful. I'm Japanese and while I prefer Japanese-made Godzilla movies, I'm very grateful for the Hollywood Godzilla films that started in 2014. They undoubtedly played a key role in reviving Godzilla, which had been losing popularity at the time. Without them, I believe this movie would not have been made (though I don’t consider the 1998 Godzilla to be a true Godzilla film, I do like it in its own way). I'm also quite excited about the MonsterVerse.
I agree. I love Kaiju movies especially Godzilla, and anytime he shows up in other cartoon, or media, I accept what it gives us because any exposure to Godzilla is better than no Godzilla even if the movie isn’t good.

Saw this last night at last and I have to say - it's a masterpiece from start to finish 👏 the human story is fantastic and heartbreaking, but Godzilla itself is terrifying... it just wants to destroy everything it sets eyes on. More people need to see this film.

Easily my favorite movie of the year. I haven't watched a film twice in cinemas in a long time but I watched this one nearly back to back and I actually want to watch it one more time before it leaves! It's so damn good!
A monster movie that has a captivating human story and a badass looking monster roaming around. Hollywood could never even imagine approaching such an interesting movie.
what's often overlooked or simply not discussed is the fact that godzilla too is a victim and a survivor as much as any of the other characters here. besides his scarred and lumpy skin it's obvious he is a mutated, disfigured, version of the original pre-radiated godzilla; his rage is fueled by his physical pain. some insight to this is the scene where the explosion that mutates him depicts his screaming from the depths of the ocean. i think the mutated godzilla's odd gait is by design of the director to show this creature is struggling as much as he is creating havoc. like the frankenstein story 'godzilla minus one' shows us the real monster is mankind's hubris and cruelty.
Whenever Niyat uploads, you just instantly push the like button even before the video starts, keep it up mate I’ve been binge watching your content since 2016
Man, it's been awhile since I've been watching videos on this channel. Apologies for missing out on so much but glad to be back and to see you still making videos. You're still one of my favorite channels when it comes to info on monsters and to see you cover the most recent iteration of Godzilla, a damn good one at that, was a joy! Keep up the fantastic work!
It's amazing what good writing, direction, and acting paired with intelligent application of budget can do. Hollywood's ChatGPT scripts get blanket approval for hundreds of millions of dollars and audiences have grown weary of it. I hope this flick opens some eyes. I'd love if comic book films, Star Wars, and the like all focused on story and characters more and dropped the CGI garbage that's constantly used to cover up how horrible the films actually are.
A very unique take on the King of the Monsters that I am glad to see talked about/praised as much as it has been. I managed to see it at the start of this month but I need to see it again if I get the time
There has not been many movies of late that stuck with me. This movie did that. I kept thinking about it, and the characters. I even paid a second ticket and watched it again. I look forward to owning the bluray of it when it comes out.
This was a beautifully made film. While it's speculation on my part, the famous stuntman, Haruo Nakajima would've been mesmerized by this movie. This is the Godzilla movie I loved from the first movie.
Good catch on Godzilla's atomic breath hurting him, I didn't notice that detail! I also wasn't expecting to see a new Godzillasaurus. That was a pleasantly intimidating surprise. This movie was so good that my brother that actively hates Godzilla turned to me and said "Alright, you get one. Thanks." Not even Shin Gojira managed that.
I went into this movie with an open mind like I always do with a Godzilla movie. I'm also a Godzilla fan from childhood. But I love what they did with this movie and being a veteran of the first Gulf war I recognize where they were going with this movie and it just walk that perfect balance between science fiction reality history regrets and emotional trauma. This is one of those movies that if it doesn't make you think and question things then you're not watching the movie the way it was meant to be.
I watched this film yesterday. It’s probably the best Godzilla movie I’ve ever seen, seriously. Oh my god! So much raw emotion. So much passion. So much terror. It’s an incredible movie and a perfect end to this shitty year. 10/10
I believe this is quite possibly the best Godzilla movie of all time, a great story, with a good old fashioned monster mash, and not hindered by corny SFX. It’s a Gojira masterclass
Minus One is tied for my favorite Godzilla, and Godzilla movie, of all time(he's tied with Shin). Yeah the movies made by Legendary are good in their own way, but they lack the feeling you get when you see the G-man being what he is: a massive, borderline unstoppable force, that is terrifying. Imo, Godzilla HAS to be scary, invoking fear into everything, wherever he goes. It's always a pleasure watching your videos and seeing you go so in-depth of the details, lore, and everything about what you choose to cover. Thank you for another amazing video, hope you and everyone will be able to be happy and enjoy the rest of this year, and I'll see you next time, or next year, in 2024.
I disagree with you when it comes to this franchise Godzilla has involved more then just a terrifying force of nature. Godzilla does not always have to be scary people keep forgetting the movies of the past. One thing I learned as a fan is that there is no definitive version of Godzilla he can be any thing it depends on the story
@@animezilla4486 To each their own. Everyone has a different opinion, and hopefully people can respect such things. I was saying that I, personally, prefer my Godzilla to be scary. I wasn't saying the old movies were bad, just simply giving my own take on my preference. Regardless on how people like their Godzilla to be, we can at least enjoy the fact movies about him are still being made. That alone is worth celebrating.
My brother is a HUGE Godzilla fan and I grew up watching and enjoying them with him. In both of our opinions this is not only the best Godzilla film ever made, its one of the best films made in general. Both times I've cried watching it and am i really hope they release physical copies on DVD and BlueRay of it in the US. This is one of the few modern movies I want to buy
Sumiko and miyoji/captain was by far my favorite characters because you can see their depth in their characters of having their own beliefs and choosing to do what they think is right not for their own beliefs but the greater good of the community Captain being anti govt and still choosing a death mission and sumiko who "believed" that the kamikaze unit could've prevented her family dying but still chose to come to love the child even
This film was never one I expected to take the number one slot on my list of Godzilla movies, but it did, and HANDILY. As a lifelong fan of the G-man, I never thought Gojira (1954) would be put into second place, I only hoped this one would be close to it in my heart. Takashi Yamazaki has placed himself in the history books with this film.
Akiko, the baby girl, looked a lot like Setsuko from Grave of the Fireflies. The same age, the same haircut, the same war orphan, but she is in another universe where she had her chance for the future because of people like Noriko and Koichi.. I want to think that way, though the Director would never say such (Toho and Ghibli, 2 very different studios), but there’s a striking resemblance when she starts crying out loud…
Fun fact: The actor who plays Koichi, Kamiki Ryunosuke, voiced many Ghibli character when he was a child. He voiced Boh in Spirited Away and Markl in Howl's. He is also the voice of Taki in Your Name.
Great breakdown. I throughly enjoyed Godzilla Minus One. It’s got to be the best movie of 2023. Fantastic writing for the human characters. Hollywood had better take notice so they can improve their movies.
I have been a Godzilla fan since I was a kid in the 80s. This movie put every US Godzilla movie to shame, and I hope this new time line will sprout more from the same director. I have never been emotional in any Godzilla movie except this one and I found myself caring about the humans and not just wanting to see Godzilla fighting. Great movie \m/
The ejector seat was already installed in the plane when it was first revealed. Note the writing in German on the seat. The ejector seat was planned from the start as this wasn't a kamikaze plane and the pilot needed to pass over the rear prop when leaving the aircraft.
This is the first Japanese Godzilla movie I've seen, it's really good and how the nuclear testing in the Bikini Atoll gave Godzilla an atomic steroid boast.
M I the only person who went to the theater on a whim and saw Godzilla on the list of films to choose from and went "Oh Godzilla I'll see that" and after watching it felt that was the best movie of the year and best Godzilla movie ever lol
My middle child and I love the US Godzilla movies, we always see them together, it’s our bonding thing. This was our first non-US Godzilla movie and we both loved every second of it.
I am very happy that Godzilla minus one is accepted outside of Japan. Godzilla was originally a monster panic film based on serious social satire and human drama, like this film. The iconic Godzilla became so distinctive and popular that the sequel was produced as entertainment for children. Therefore, the main character in most Godzilla series is Godzilla, and they were made so that anyone can easily enjoy monster movies, which has led to the formation of today's Godzilla fans. That is why Gareth Edwards' 2014 Godzilla recreates the original 1954 Godzilla while creating a monster-verse of entertainment. Meanwhile, in Japan, director Hideaki Anno has created Shin Godzilla, a film that focuses on social satire. The similarity between 2014 Godzilla and Shin Godzilla is that both depict Godzilla as a "force of nature" or disaster beyond the reach of humans. This is not surprising considering that Roland Emmerich's 1998 Godzilla was criticized for insulting the king of monsters that Godzilla fans sought to portray. There is also a theory that Roland Emmerich intended to use the title Godzilla as a draw to make a remake of The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms. That may be the reason why the film looks like a diversion of the Jurassic Park staff and CG. However, if Godzilla is portrayed as a disaster far beyond the reach of mankind, there is no reason to include a human drama. This is the reason why 2014 Godzilla was not well received. The human drama like 1954 Godzilla was useless, having no influence on the story, while the dreamlike compositions of the amazing firestorm and the confrontation between monsters were dreamlike. Shin Godzilla succeeded in depicting a straightforward human vs. Godzilla composition, but because its satirical target was the March 11 earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear power plant accident in Japan, the human drama was limited to a casual representation as a member of the government. While there are certainly parts of each film that can be enjoyed, the film's seriousness, which is necessary to convince Godzilla fans, makes it difficult for many people to enjoy it. Then came the dark horse, Godzilla Minus One. Many long-running Godzilla films have been remade or rebooted. Godzilla Minus One is one of them, but it is probably the most faithful remake to the original 1954 Godzilla. The shock, fear, anger, sadness, and joy we felt in the theater were the same as those felt by the audience in 1954. It is Godzilla minus one, a film that we can be equally enthralled with 70 years later.
I just got done watching it boy what a movie to watch it had every emotion coming out of me what makes this godzilla such a force to be reckon with is that fast healing factor and city destroying heat ray this movie is worth to watch ❤❤
its been 3 weeks since i first saw this on imax and I'm still reading reviews about it! I honestly can't remember another film causing this kind of reaction in me. (I'm 65 yrs old and have seen ALOT of movies)...yes..masterpiece really is the correct word here.
Cannot WAIT to see this tomorrow!!! Super excited to just BE EXCITED about a Godzilla film again. I honestly feel like I'm 7 years old again.......as I wait patiently Gojira Minus One?? More Like...... GOJIRA # 1 ONE!!!!!! And that dinosaur looking Gojira!!!!!!!!! I have yet to see anything that would rival that,
When I watched Godzilla I never cared when Godzilla destroyed the city, I actually felt it was something cool, But when I saw Godzilla Minus One, seeing Godzilla trampling people, I felt sympathy for people,They are people who are trying to recover from the destruction of World War 2, but now they are starting to rebuild their lives A 50 meter tall monster came and destroyed their city, just like the allied forces destroyed their city in World War 2, Making the audience care about the characters in the film is a sign that your film is the best film
The thing I loved about this movie is that u actually see the level of damage these creatures can do by just walking around somthing that's brushed over in new monster verse movies there scale feels small this movie makes him take damaged and deals it brilliantly
It is a good movie reminded me a lot of my great-uncle told me about Japan when he was over there. He was an occupational soldier in Japan after World War II just before him and his unit got sent to Korea to fight.
Niyat know you have a major fan when as I left the theater my wife turned and asked me do I want to see what filmcomicsexplained said about it. IMO this is the best Godzilla film of all time, the live action anime vibes is what got me really as the cherry on top.
What people are not understanding is that Tachibana did not install the ejection seat. It is a German design(as used on the the He-219) hence the German warning marking on it. He simply realized it, made sure it had compressed air to operate and instructed Koichi about it. The 219 was the first operational plane in history to have ejection seats. Fantastic movie, have seen it 3X so far and I'm possibly going tomorrow to see it again. It's so good.❤
@christmassuy84 no. Not really. The size of the chair doesn't change all that much, and only a relatively small tank of compressed air is needed to actuate it. Canopy release charges aren't a problem either. Putting the explosives in place of two 30mm guns and that needed ammo is completely logical and feasible. Otherwise the plane simply will not have enough fuel, and as it is, the plane flew entirely longer than possible, considering its design did not have large internal reserves and it wasn't carrying any drop tanks.
Now hopefully nobody does the dumb thing of comparing this movie with the Godzilla and Kong movie coming out next year. Because they're two different animals one is meant to be thought-provoking and the other one is popcorn entertainment.
Agreed. It should go without saying but there you are. Legendarys Gman is so much fun I like them all. Definitely looking forward to New Empire. Fingers crossed. G-1 is just that nexus of amazing. The writing, sound, story, costume, cgi, sets everything was great. I'm trying to cut back on caps but all those should be in caps.🤣

I really hope when its available for purchase it comes with a dubbed option. As someone with dyslexia i find it very difficult to read as fast as the subs go by, i fall behind and lose big chunks of sentences trying to keep up I'd love to enjoy this film but unfortunately that makes it impossible to do so without a dub.
Minus One did the 1 thing the "Monsterverse" Godzilla films forget/don't care to do While we love seeing Giant Monsters fighting each other We have to remember the HUMANS are just as important as the Giant Monsters. The monsters are forces of Nature, Eldritch horrors we humans can't comprehend, What are the Human Stuggles seeing such Awe and Terror how dose the world react and such. Minus one absolutely nails this by tieing this as well as having full character arcs for our protagonists AND give a poiniant and powerful message all ontop of it.
I've watched Godzilla movies since I was a tot in the 80s and this is the first one to make me care about the human characters. I actually facepalmed when the Kid showed up in the finale with the tugboats, in a "noooo you're just going to get yourself killed" way. This movie is going to be a day one purchase when it's out for streaming.

Godzilla didn't attack on Odo island until he was attacked himself. This seemed to be the same with the nuclear weapons tests that hit him and mutated him, making him want revenge

Japanese people were not "victims and survivors" of WWII, they were the aggressors
By far the best movie of 2023. like many comments below I shed a tear at the end, truly a master piece. loved it !!!
Whenever Niyat uploads, you just instantly push the like button even before the video starts, keep it up mate I’ve been binge watching your content since 2016
Thanks for tuning in from the begining benzteoh! Appreciate you brother :)
@@filmcomicsexplained I second that, we know we're going to get good quality content 💯
Thanks Treyrex!
@@filmcomicsexplained You're most welcome!
I saw this the day after it came out in Canadian theatres in 4D. Truly was one of the best movies I have ever seen.
I saw this film last night. To call this film riveting and jaw-dropping is to sell it short. One of the best films I have ever seen, tbh
I'm so glad this movie is getting the attention it deserves
This Godzilla movie puts Hollywood to shame I am beyond happy to see you reviewing this fresh new Godzilla movie.
Sumiko and miyoji/captain was by far my favorite characters because you can see their depth in their characters of having their own beliefs and choosing to do what they think is right not for their own beliefs but the greater good of the community
Captain being anti govt and still choosing a death mission and sumiko who "believed" that the kamikaze unit could've prevented her family dying but still chose to come to love the child even
This film was never one I expected to take the number one slot on my list of Godzilla movies, but it did, and HANDILY. As a lifelong fan of the G-man, I never thought Gojira (1954) would be put into second place, I only hoped this one would be close to it in my heart. Takashi Yamazaki has placed himself in the history books with this film.
I loved this movie so much! Definitely my best of the year ! Great video!
Minus one is literally the best godzilla movie ever made
The best in storyline, production design, sound and visual effects than the more expensive overpriced Hollywood films ever made
I absolutely loved minus one. Definitely a top Godzilla movie. One of the best movies of any series.
Seen it THREE times. ONE word.
MASTERPIECE
This movie is one of the best movies I’ve seen in years and I have no problems saying that!
Great breakdown. I throughly enjoyed Godzilla Minus One. It’s got to be the best movie of 2023. Fantastic writing for the human characters. Hollywood had better take notice so they can improve their movies.
MASTERPIECE
Out of all movie i watched before, this Godzilla movie is the first one to make me actually cry lol
This movie was amazing and Godzilla was scary
This…THIS IS HOW YOU MAKE A GODZILLA MOVIE and a great movie in general i hope someone in hollywood is noticing
I’m so thankful I got to see this in our local theatre, would’ve been pissed if I missed it
The ejector seat was already installed in the plane when it was first revealed.
Okay Katie, now you have over 30 films to get through to catch up on the lore lol
@@filmcomicsexplained I've watched the Monsterverse films and I know everything about the Kaiju lizard.
This movie was the best movie of the Year.
So glad this godzilla movie did well.
Me too buddy!
Watching this I felt a new experience different from my usual western cinema experience it was refreshing.
Give Yamazaki a $250 million budget, he'd make 10 films that still all outdo the crap we're used to in the US
Facts!
With all the bad movies that come and go. Here comes Godzilla crushing all of them! It was awesome even my wife who is not a Godzilla fan loved it!
Thats brilliant to hear Matt!
its been 3 weeks since i first saw this on imax and I'm still reading reviews about it!
I honestly feel like I'm 7 years old again.......as I wait patiently
Gojira Minus One??
Awesome film! And the most angriest Godzilla incarnation I've seen since GMK.
It is a good movie reminded me a lot of my great-uncle told me about Japan when he was over there. He was an occupational soldier in Japan after World War II just before him and his unit got sent to Korea to fight.
Man I saw it twice. Freaking loved it
heck yeah lets gooo! been waiting for this one! love your breakdowns and insights. i love this movie so much
Been watching your channel for a few years now and you give some of the best breakdowns I’ve seen! Thanks for the great content
Amazing movie. Thank you for covering
Niyat know you have a major fan when as I left the theater my wife turned and asked me do I want to see what filmcomicsexplained said about it. IMO this is the best Godzilla film of all time, the live action anime vibes is what got me really as the cherry on top.
lol W wifey! Thanks for the kind words Karnage :)
Godzilla literally woke up and chose violence and I was all for it
What people are not understanding is that Tachibana did not install the ejection seat.
It's so good.❤
He can increase the success rate of operations by eliminating ejection seats and increasing the amount of explosives.
Adult themes that made me clap my hands after the movie ended 🎉🎉🎉🎉 and the ending would make M night shamalan jealous 9/10 movie and the soundtrack my goodness super surround sound
I really hope when its available for purchase it comes with a dubbed option. As someone with dyslexia i find it very difficult to read as fast as the subs go by, i fall behind and lose big chunks of sentences trying to keep up
I'd love to enjoy this film but unfortunately that makes it impossible to do so without a dub.
Do not worry
You can understand it just by watching the video
Minus One did the 1 thing the "Monsterverse" Godzilla films forget/don't care to do
While we love seeing Giant Monsters fighting each other
We have to remember the HUMANS are just as important as the Giant Monsters.
This movie is going to be a day one purchase when it's out for streaming.
this movie was incredible saw it twice and can't wait to buy it and i'm also glad u made this video about minus one cos i was hoping u would but didn't want to push u into do it if u didn't want to so thanks
Another Great Video! Cheers!
I love that his regenerated wounds leave visible scars. Nice detail.
Godzilla didn't attack on Odo island until he was attacked himself. This seemed to be the same with the nuclear weapons tests that hit him and mutated him, making him want revenge
"like a prehistoric dickhead" really caught me off guard lol, great stuff.
The Xmas present I always wanted, more uploads from FCE 🎉🎄🎅
Aww thanks thearmchairjournalist!
