LYRICS:
The Natural Heart Gavin Dunne 2016
A fading neon gleam casts shadows over stone
The city’s shining skin is shedding from the bone
I’ve gone from pillar to pariah in the slide
In seas of doubt I swim against the turning tide
Broken bodies line the walls
Midas empires crash and fall
Wings that melt when we try to soar
Close my eyes as I descend
To the gold rush at it’s end
Take me back to before...
This isn’t human anymore
Look into the natural heart
Following the beat of the chemical
This isn’t human anymore
Tearing the connections apart
Crawling at the feet of our pedestals
Are you still human at the core?
Pushing the reflex
Pressure the defects
Breaking down is inevitable
Spraining the rivets
Straining the limits
Breaking down is inevitable
The ghosts of order dot the eye and the tilt the three
I stalk the trinity into conspiracy
They painted masterworks and set them all alight
The scars of persecution always harden into spite
Broken bodies line the walls
Midas empires crash and fall
Wings that melt when we try to soar
Close my eyes as I descend
To the gold rush at its end
Take me back to before...
This isn’t human anymore
Look into the natural heart
Following the beat of the chemical
This isn’t human anymore
Tearing the connections apart
Crawling at the feet of our pedestals
Are you still human at the core?
Look into the natural heart don’t let it turn to stone
Are you still human at the core?
Look into the natural heart don’t let it turn to stone
Pushing the reflex
Pressure the defects
Breaking down is inevitable
Spraining the rivets
Straining the limits
Breaking down is inevitable - Видеоклипы
They painted masterworks and set them all alight,
The scars of persecution always harden into spite.
Poetry, absolutely gorgeous poetry, Gavin!
Thank you! I like that lyric :)
I love the lines in the chorus "This isn't human anymore" and "Are you still human at the core?" But overall the entire song is great. I can't stop listening to it and I absolutely loved the game itself. Although I expected it to be slightly longer than it was.
I paticularly like the choruses and the "I’ve gone from pillar to pariah in the slide. In seas of doubt I swim against the turning tide." bit. Really hits with me since that's kinda how I feel some days, what with being considered 'different' in my own right. Which makes it really awesome. You, sir, are genius, even when you don't realize it.
Thanks :)

If I had a more exciting life, I would sell the liferights to make a movie, if only so you could write and perform the songs for it. But we can't all be Adam Jensen, now can we?
That aside, Perhaps, in the future, you might do something for The Old Republic? I'd be curious to know what that would sound like.
This song has stealth camo on guys, due to me having to delete the first video. You can help augment its views by sharing with friends :) Big luv
Shared on FB. Hope that's enough xp for a Praxis Kit.
No problem, I'll just watch it another 100.000 times like last time
damnit I post a comment about how this song could be compared to youtube nowadays and it gets reuploaded. xD
wow just wow!! amazing as ever!
+Games Life да, он же единоличный создатель группы miracle of sound
I just realised the duality of the chorus. From the Augs' pov, it's asking if the actions of the humans even make them human anymore. But from a human's point of view, it's asking if the augs are even human at all.
Allen Milo Pumford
From the humans' stand point?
MrSuperMastermind
Not me. I got all my organs replaced by jar grown alien-cyborg parts.

Not me. I got all my organs replaced by jar grown alien-cyborg parts.
...shit, you're right. I was thinking of the duality from the Aug protagonist - he questions if he's still human, and if the actions of the humans are 'human', but it also makes sense from the perspective of the humans. Works perfectly from all of those angles.
Reminiscent of the question asked in Hunchback: who is the monster and who is the man?
The human is the one who puts his heart and soul on the line to risk it all for the things he/she/it cares for
In Overwatch, some Omnics are more human than actual 'humans' are
Honestly, your videos are better at convincing me to play games...rather than original trailers. Thank you for doing amazing job.
Same, I had zero interest in Deus Ex before hearing this.
I actively avoided Deus ex. Now it's a game I've played.
Gotta love the all the little call backs to The New Black Gold. It's a great touch that adds just that little extra to an already awesome song
Exactly how a sequel song (weird concept) should be.
he always has something that connects his songs of same franchaise. broken bodies here, crimson rivers in AC and dream of sea/sky/goodbyes in bioshock. i wonder what will it be in dishonored...
+pelipoika I will guess "angel in white" will be one
Referencing the songs of related games is on Gav's motifs after all.
Nah. "Sad, sad faces" and/or "Bad, bad places". Either way there's no guarantee he'll do a Dishonored 2 one. It seems likely, but you can never be certain, it all depends on whether or not the game inspires him or not.
Absolutely beautiful character. He can't be fully one. He fears to be the worst of both. Side with Arc, he loses his humanity; side with the police, he betrays his fellow augs. Excellent duality, awesome game
ARC was both Marchenko and Rucker - no dilemma siding with Rucker, and going after Marchenko.
Damn, seeing Adam fight in these scenes really gets across just how utterly terrifying it would be for a normal soldier to fight an Aug. He looks essentially human until he starts turning on all his fancy weapon systems, so I could see treating any person with augments as a threat on that level...eesh.
(No, I've not played Mankind Divided. I enjoyed Human Revolution, but wasn't quite in the right mindset when I tried Mankind Divided. I'm definitely planning to give it another shot at some point, though, just not yet.)
@Samuel Anugrah Andre not yet - I'm currently on a system that has some significant driver issues (I switched to Linux and my current distro doesn't like my video card that much - I'm switching to another when I swap out ancient hard drives for new ones, and have been procrastinating on that for far too long). Most games with sophisticated 3d modelling just don't work. But it's still on my list.
In reality normal bullet will destory augumentations as easily as it destroys body, Thickness of metal/composite needed to stop a bullet is quite large. (6mm of solid stell for 9 mm pistol).
@@TOCZEKX I meant more that I can see the concern being warranted within the fiction of the game. Real world cybernetics will probably never even come close to what Deus Ex portrays, at least on the combat front. Not unless we can start mass producing substances we barely even know how to make at this point, and find more substances that are even more durable
Still, I'd imagine to someone used to using prosthetics as weapons, having one shot off would be far less concerning to them than it would be to a human. Combat happens fast, and if your first shot hits something that the other person can just shrug off, you might not have the chance to land a second on something more vital.
To some extent, sure. Though Adam is in the top 1 percentile of deadliness compared to other augs.
to be fair adam is one of, if not after killing the tyrants, the most augmented people in the entire world, and with the experimental augs he essentially turns from uniquely augmented super-soldier to mechanical demigod
Alternate title: The new new black gold.
The newer black gold
The Newest Blackest Goldest, in fact (yes, I got that from Jim Sterling).
Newer Blacker Golder
No, that'd be the second sequel.
Black Gold 2
Black Gold Harder
"They painted masterworks and set them all a light. The scars of persecution always harden into spite." 👌💖
*alight
"Take me back to before... this isn't human anymore."
1st time listening: "Eh, it's not bad"
2nd time: "Hey, it's pretty good!"
3+ times: "WHY CANT I GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD? I KEEP PRESSING THE REPLAY!"
Im felling the same way haha
That's the exact same thing that happened to me. Now, I can't *not* listen to it
35+ times: THIS ISN'T HUMAN ANYMORE!
same here, now it's one of my favorite songs of all time XD
OMFG YOU TOO
Can’t believe it’s been 7 years
This song reminds me why I like lyrics that use complex wordings and still manage to rhyme. It's as if nobody is a poet in today's music anymore. This is refreshing.
I know this comment is about 7 years too late to the party, But bloody hells this song is golden. The lyrics describe the story of the game in a way that I truly did not expect and actually caused me to tear up a little thinking about the fact that the game series has ended, its a story that might never get a truly satisfying ending. All I can do is hope that the new game that is pure spectulation actually comes out in 2028 like it is rumored to, and say bloody well done!
thanks miracle of sound, now I have to listen to it 200 times, just thanks
Long day ahead of me. Only at 7 so far.
Same here. Gonna do it on Spotify tho.
Take my advice just put it on a loop for the rest of the day. It helps you waste less time pressing the button. And spend more time listening to a genius.
Me too my Friend me too
No; make a playlist of New Black Gold and this and *then* play it on repeat :-p
Referencing Midas as a contrast to the Icarus imagery is brilliant
Coming back again and again and again and again for years. Miracle of Sound, you are the best. I say that with the deepest of sincerities
Gav, I don't know if you'll see this but... Thank you. Your songs so greatly incapsulate the core of every game you cover. I stumbled blindly into your 'Sovngarde' song one day and I must say it really lifted my spirits, and every damn song you come out with never fails to. Never stop doing what you do, because on he days another one of your works come out the stars burn brighter for your creativity and spirit. Godspeed man!
Thank you very much for the kind words :)
couldn't have put it better myself completely agree
I base my steam purchases on your songs, tbh
I second this. Fires Fade made me get Dark Souls 3, haven't regretted a single second of it. Gav just manages to project the games' atmosphere perfectly into his songs.
Yeah I got Tomb Raider because of Savage Side of Me!
The only reason I dont have this yet is insufficient $$$$. Deus Ex has always been fantastic for me.
+Chris M his witcher songs are the only thing pushing me forward in witcher 1. FUCK THAT COMBAT SYSTEM
"Take it back" and "Normandy" convinced me to start the mass effect series.
I keep coming back to this one even years later. Probably my favorite MoS song
This song has some of your best lyrics yet IMO, especially this line:
"They painted masterworks and set them all alight, the scars of persecution always harden into spite"
I also really love all the similarities with your previous Deus Ex song.
Watching (listening to) this again. I love it so much.
"This isn't human anymore" here lies the entire question of the game. You nailed it.
Man, this is so much more than a videogame-inspired song. This is poetry. This is art.
DEVS,
Please for the love of god, include this man's work in a game!
Signed
Gamers
Wasteland 2 credits
That's only one game though. Not even beginning to move towards "satisfactory".
Seconded from movie goers. Also DIRECTORS GET THIS GUY ON YOUR MOVIE SOUNDTRACK!
Didn't he also do the end credits for Mass Effect or something like that?
I dunno about the credits, but I do remember something about bioware using his song Commander Shepherd for promos or something like that. Ubisoft also likes it when he releases songs for their games because they generate a lot of hype.
Can we just appreciate the genius of those rhyming couplets and how they probably represent the humans and the augs being separate yet the same.
Games would be so much better if they included Gav's songs in their soundtracks.
That's what mods are for.
Some do!
Wasteland 2 did, actually. It's the credits song. :)
Wait, I'm new here, these are all fan made? They're quite impressive!!
Nylocke Valentine Yes.
Welcome back, Gav. I think I speak for the internet when I say we all missed you, mate.
Hooah!
+Squadron266 I'm not certain that matters...
+Squadron266 We miss Gav already the day after each song. There's just that much anticipation for each one.
3:44 Nanomachines, son !
Best meme ever! although Jensen only has mechanical augments, nanomachines aren't invented till a few decades later.
Yeah, that's a detail I forgot about. Yet, I'm curious about one thing - If Jensen had to fight with Armstrong, which one would win ?
Does he have a vending machine?
I think the tech in Metal Gear Rising is much more high-sci-fi than in Deus Ex.
But if those arm blades were made into HF blades...
that's Ferro fluid my man
I have fallen in love with this song without hearing the lyrics. Reminds me of Mass Effect, a series I love.
"This isn't human anymore"
Holy crap that gives me chills.
Gav's voice definitely doesn't need to augmented anyway
I hope i am not the only one listening to this in 2021
This is probably my favourite track of yours this year so far. Amazing work!
Thanks. I think it's my fave of 2016 as well at least right now :)
Not The Path? thats disappointing :|
I'm glad I get to listen to the superior mix now.
I wish I had the first clue what was different, though...
Ending sounds different methinks.
Kick drum was a bit too boomy around 120hz in the first version. The vocals are also a bit louder in parts of this one :)
I don't have the musical ear for the kick drum change, but I can definitely tell the vocals are louder and it sounds much better, love it and keep doing what you do
miracleofsound Y'know, I'd just joked that the kick drum was probably 0.01 decibels too loud. Amusing that I was almost right.
Thanks for not half-arsing then.
Was worried you got hit by copyright strike at first ._.
Turned out really, really well :)
;)
miracleofsound have you played a deus ex game ? im just wondering
I mean, obviously. Pretty sure he plays/watched everything he makes music of.
yes he has he was gushing about it on the podquisition and on twitter.
RELEVANT TODAY IN 2021
The scars of persecution always harden into spite.
Thank you. This is inspiring.
It made me buy and play the game and I didn't regret it. Instead it changed my point of view on life, on people and on the value of human rights.
Your song captured the core message of the game which some players so boldly overlooked in the broader picture.
Hey Sound Star, i just wanted to thak you for all the music you gave us. Im a huge fan and a lot of your songs go straight into my heart. And i have to say this is again a true masterpiece.
Pleas stay the way you are i really admire you!
Thank you :)
Oh Gods, I love this!
Give you any inspiration?
Yooo... you and gav doing a song together ... this needs to happen, the world is ready :)
They already did some :)
***** I ah actually an Idiot, I listened to them already, quite a few times, just never internalized that it was Sharm in them xD Wow I impress myself sometimes with this kind of shit xD
Gav, you really hit it out of the park with this one man!
The parts that line up with New Black Gold just give the song that extra umph that make it another amazing piece of music.
Breaking down is inevitable. Sounds like my life right now.
Are you doing ok now?
@@aubreyackermann8432 hopefully yes. I’m not where I want to be quite yet but there is hope of a significantly better job coming my way. Won’t do anything about the depression but it will be a major improvement. Thank you for checking.
Coming back to this song in 2024, I can't help but feel like Adam Jensen is one of modern gaming's biggest tragedies. The character was so effortlessly cool and badass, had a great first game, a great revival of a great older IP, everything was going right... SE painted a masterwork and then set it all alight...
You may be gone Adam, but you won't be forgotten. Neither will your god damn badass and cool retracting shades.
In this video:
Adam= Gav
Other guys=Other music producers
T
Oh man, now I'm wondering what did you change in relation to the version from a couple hours ago... Is it the kickdrum? I feel like it's the kickdrum, but I'm not entirely sure.
yup. I attenuated some boomy frequencies in the kick drum around 120hz. Also made some of the vocal parts louder
Why not leave both versions like Shadow of the Ash? Sorry, if I'm missing some significant detail... again
It wasn't a massive change, so there'd be no point. When changing something between two versions of a mix it's usually better to discard the old mix as the newer one will be better. As I say, if it had been a massive change like maybe a complete change of the kit or a different synth, then it may have been welcome to see both to compare but there's not really any point.
On another note, Gavin out of curiosity what kit do you use? Is it the NI Abbey Road Modern?
Huh, I thought the song felt slightly different, better than when I first listened to it.
I simply chalked it up to my imagination; your songs tend to grow on me after a few listens.
Definitely a good change, the song sounds cleaner overall.
This is becoming my favorite of your videos. So good. Love the line "This isn't human anymore..." LOVE IT
The scar of persecution always harden into spite. Such a deep line, beautiful song
Good job, man.
It is fascinating how you achieve to understand the essence, the spirit of a game or a movie, and you can redefine it, and compose total new songs that even improve the originals, with a so accurate selected cinematics that reinforce even more the spirit of the work. You are creating great videos, each one is like a complete movie, in my opinion, every video is a little masterpiece, very well done, Congratulations miracleofsound, thank you for those works! . This one is my favourite ever, i even made my own version of your version, experimenting with synths and orchestral instruments :) (just for learning) . Your videos are great inspiration.
Your Deus Ex songs seems to be the most poetic and dramatic of your works, really. Both the "New Black Gold" and the "Natural Heart" pay the best homage to the great ideas in these games. I wish their own direction and execution was, actually, that good! I think both of these games have issues that they don't want to be as radical as they, ironically, strive to be. They could be as hard to play as Spec Ops: The Line, but they try to tone it all down a lot.
You don't.
This song gets to me in so many ways, I can't even begin to explain.
please keep doing what you you do.
I'm addicted to this. Gavin, your songs are simply amazing.
I love how songs about a game in a series have hints of the songs you made about previous games in the series.
All the Assassin's Creed ones have "justice flows in crimson rivers" in them (except unity, which has "justice is a red river")
The Call has bits of Nord Mead, Sovngarde Song (2016) has a bit of Legends of the Frost,
Fires Fade and Forever Flame both have parts of Fires Far
And so on...
Amazing lyrics! Beautiful, poetic and full of references (as the game itself)... My favorite is the Icarus thing.
Oh, and I love the calls to the previous Deus Ex song. The acknowledgement of being a part of a bigger story adds even more depth to it.
This song makes me very emotional. This is one of the best songs I've ever heard!💖
Love this song, it inspired my current WIP Utopia. Its set in the twilight of superheroes.
I've only listened to this about a dozen times in the last day... I need my fix.
A song for the original deus ex would be amazing!
"are you still human at the core?"
well....thats......thats a big one for so few words
Voice with the connection of the video gives this song amazing power.
Man after all these years I see that you really have AN AUGUMENTED INSPIRATION, no one can challange this. Such subtle feeling of mood and atmosphere of what the story was and how it goes...now I even doubt that the trailer was outstanding. 10 Praxis kits for you and your creation, long live!!!
I love how (to me) it's similar to New Black Gold, but still very unique. I always think of broken bodies built anew, broken bodies line the walls. Great work!!
Loving the song! I'm impressed on how you manage not only to capture the feel of the game, how its more grey and 'toned-down' than the shiny and futuristic first one, but also the mood of Jensen, The kind of sad resignation as apposed to the quiet defiance in the first game, and first song. At least, that what it feels like when I listen.
As always great work! Cant wait for December.
This beautiful masterpiece deserves at least 10 million more views.
Your voice and lyrics are just too gorgeous.
Just to let everyone know, Elias Toufexis personally endorses this song.
Made me want to listen to your old tune, The New Black Gold, all over again. Respect, my man. S'what I got for your talent.
That opening remix of the new black gold. amazing how you always find ways to put in cues and callbacks to previous songs in the series. Thanks to you i cant listen to other artists anymore, your just on a level above others.
I am always amazed by how breathtaking your ability to capture the human spirit in music is
Jesus Christ, Gav, steady on. Between this one, Hell to Pay, the DS3 tracks, and all the rest, I'm pretty sure Level 7 is going to be too good for mortals to handle. It'll melt people's faces off Ark-Of-The-Covenant-style or something.
to this day, this is still one of my favorite songs from gavin, continue your great work man!
L l l.
I love the feeling it gives, amazing song! Each song is unique in its own way, and so this is. Thank you for sharing with us!
Thank you Gav, continue The amazing work, I can't live without your songs anymore
That moment when you're singing the lyrics and you mix them up with an older song "broken bodies built-WAIT WHAT"
When I cut my hand and its cake.
This isn't human anymore.
I have a whole playlist of music from this amazing artist that I listen to everyday. I am never tired of his music. I also have my favorites. You sir are very talented. My mom would have loved you.
Spreading the love, I can't stop listening to this song. It's REALLY good.
"Wings that melt when we try to soar"
Who says I'm trying to fly? "express elevator to Hell, going down"
Just when I thought he couldn’t do “The New Black Gold,” in lyrical quality, symbolism, and song quality.
How does someone write something this amazing? Seriously, the emotions when watching this with the video, while playing the game...it’s like the Sistine chapel or a Monet panting was given a soundtrack to match the quality. Amazing work.
This song is truly a masterpiece, one of my favourite in all your song Gavin !
this is my new favorite Deus Ex Song, every thing about it just plays astoundingly well with every other aspect, thank you.
Wow, great Gavin, your music involves so much me.
This rhythm induces to live, the words give hope.
Hope that the heart, the humanity, will win always on any technology.
This could pass for a song on the radio if you ask me
A lot of his songs could
I can't get enough of this song.
so many elements to this song, and so beautifully written!!!
Deus Ex is the GOAT!
Yay i can give another like! Great job as always Gav! :)
This is a great song , you never cease to amaze us ! I wish you the same success which accompanied you all these years .
Perfect timing, uploading this just after I completed the game. Beautiful work as always.
Я НИКОГДА ОБ ЭТОМ НЕ ПРОСИЛ!
*adds Deus Ex series to list of what to play* my list is getting ever longer...
Gotta say, I've listened to all your music, multiple MULTIPLE times, but this has to be your absolute best work..
I think I've listened to this about 10 or 11 times today. Great job, Gav. Got the feel of Dues Ex and made one of your best songs yet!
This is a perfect mix of "New Black Gold" and something new - what else is there to say, you've done it again, Gav! :)
Whenever I hear your songs, I always feel like running out and buying the game - and in most casess, your song far surpases the actual game experience! ;)
"This isn't human anymore."
This game (Human Revolution) has make me question what it even mean to be a human. After all those years, i'm still not even sure what is the right answer.
I'm beginning to think that being "human" is a subjective thing for us. And when we get to this point(Deus Ex style augmentations or just cyborg trans-humanism realized) IRL that our already convoluted thought process regarding what is qualified to be termed "human" is going to lead to TONS of strife for everyone...
It's all about perspective. How logical and calculating can you be before you're a computer? How compassionate and caring is too compassionate? Or maybe it's physical?
Personally, I believe it as a more mental / moral divide.
+VoltocityGEL Is an exact electronic imprint of a human mind human? Because prosthetic limbs wontake you not human hoewer mutch you think they do... When we start screwing with the seat of the mind do questions come really flooding.
It's not really that complicated.
Việt Trung Trần well my out look on the world is already poisoned, so I doubt I'm human
Just the way you make the songs connect so much, just like The Path makes them even more fantastic, which I thought impossible considering your musical genius... but that is true genius right there Gav, pushing the limits and reaching the stars, just keep doing what you love and thanks for such amazing work
I can't believe how good this song is....
Jensen’s augmentations must cost a lot of calories to use man holy shit.
probably burning upward of 10,000 kcal. though probably has an augmented digestive system to increase efficiancy and decrease energy loss during the digestive process.
That or lots of AAA Batterys

@@mightytaco123 "flash back to how much goku ate after the first world ternoment we saw and how much it costed" so how is he paying for all that food?
It took your own song at 1:20 for me to really notice it, but Jenson's a hell of an interesting character.
His outward appearance and behavior patterns are so stereotypically "dark hounded angry outcast western archetype protagonist" I can bet he gets weekly calls from the 1990's asking for their hero ideas back, yet the fraction of a bit where the Aug being beaten triggered Jenson's memories of the time he /wanted/ to act, and was overcome. Thus he decides, on the spot, to take matters into his own hands, which is narratively beautiful, not to mention how slickly it represents the core essence of Deus Ex gameplay, which is finding yourself in a multitude of situations that demand none of your attention, yet are basically pleading for it, given certain kinds of personality and history.
Out of a sort of....gruff kindness. A sensitivity he doesn't let on, yet lives by. And in a world of technological magic, what more relatable feeling is there than that?
Wow this is a great comment and view on jensen actions.
Having purchased a few MoS albums and being a general fan of most of the things you do, this is probably my favorite track you've recorded to date.
Amazing job man. Amazing Job.
This has got to be one of the lyrically tightest songs you've written...and it has some really hard competition.
