LYRICS:
A glaring neon glow illuminates this street
Breathe in these human vapors, sweat and heavy heat
Hi-tech cathedrals rise and fall in great ravines
Colossal steeples to the gods in the machines
Broken body built anew
Spirit lingers, torn in two
Metal fingers grip my heart so cold
Fossil fuels to slavery
Political duplicity
Every great commodity's been sold
Slave to the new black gold, there's a heartbeat under my skin
Search my electric soul for the hidden man within
Your secret science conquers nature's cruel laws
But inside your wires lie a million mortal flaws
Electric sleep I dream inside my honeycomb
I stay alive inside my hive of skin and chrome
Broken body built anew
Spirit lingers, torn in two
Metal fingers grip my heart so cold
Fossil fuels to slavery
Political duplicity
Every great commodity's been sold
Slave to the new black gold, there's a heartbeat under my skin
Search my electric soul for the hidden man within
Slave to the new black gold, there's a heartbeat under my skin
Broken body built anew
Spirit lingers, torn in two... - Видеоклипы
I've been told this is happening by a lot of people, that they're just not used to the new version at first but after listening a few times the nostalgia goggles aren't so strong and it grows on them to the point that they prefer it to the original :)
Wait there's a shittier version of this?
Why?!
Opposite for me, I found the remaster first, and I like the crunchier and crispier sound of this better.
Alas, still prefer the original. Sorry
For the couple of people asking, this song is about Augmentations becoming the next 'great commodity'. In the past these have been things such as oil, coal & slavery - all of which have also been referred to as 'black gold'.
This also ties into the game & video's colour scheme as well as Adam's struggle with accepting that he is becoming less of a human and more of a commodity the more he augments himself :) .
Your original song was what inspired me to play this game and does an amazing job of capturing the 'mood' of the storyline.
Keep up the great work and as always thanks for sharing with us.
It's so awesome I reinstalled DXHR again.
I tried to make myself like human revolution by I couldn't, and yet this song is still phenominal
Jonathan Mera I just wanna ask what's the story behind the game. I see his arms are getting repaired or something. What happened to him. Thanks.
Darko Trpevski he is the secury chief of sarif industries, an augmentation factory. he gets killed in Action by some augs, but gets revived because his body reacts better to augs than the body of most other People, he lost both arms so they got replaced by augs....
I can't believe this song is ten years old. Wild.
Even 12 years. It's the version of 2013, the first one was in 2012 (I guess?..)
This will be stuck in my head forever at this point. Haven't listened to it in like 5 or so years but the lyrics never leave lol
Every once in a while I come back to this song and "natural heart". Masterworks.
Oh my god same! For both of the Deus Ex songs, but this one was my first love
@@CeciliaOfSweden same here dudes! 10/10 these 2 songs are in my top 10

Same, and I haven’t even played this game.
I love how most of the songs that Miracle of Sound makes about games fit the game while still being something that could stand alone.
Yeah they really do.
You could say this was a Warframe song and it'd make sense (considering the sacrifice quest)
I actually ran into them in spotify without knowing they belonged to any game.
Tbh all hissongs are A LITTLE BIT SIMILAR. JUST A LITTLE. NO SARCASM.
I find it a scathing rebuke of the music industry that this artist isn't on the top twenty as he has a greater range, more creativity and more talent than all of the other plastic pop pretenders that crap up the airwaves. Seriously why doesn't he have a single song on the top twenty... there's no justice in the world.
There is some voice alteration software involved. Sometimes has that computerised effect to it.
ExtremeGamer9951
Voice alteration is everywhere now, all the mainstream artists use it as well (except maybe some rap and country).
xSintex HAHAHAHAHAHAHA you're a funny one. The only "mainstreamers" that don't use it are Ninja Sex party, Starbomb, and this guy. Weird Al's fallen back on it and all the raps use it. Country uses it like it's FUCKING BUTTER. Please make me laugh again. You're a goddamn riot.
ExtremeGamer9951 No, there isn't. I don't use use vocal correction software. Whatever you're hearing, you're incorrect in this assumption.
Sorry, it was just that your voice in this has an odd, cool sounding kind of tone to it, though that may be some sort of sound effects stuff and not any autotuning.
The singing was my main issue with the old version - I missed a few notes here and there & it was also done on my crappy old studio gear and cheap microphones.
While I agree the 'shitty gear' approach can give a rough, edgy charm to certain songs (White Stripes, some NIN, etc), I always envisioned this one should be very polished, shiney and smooth sounding like the visuals/music in the game. But I'm glad people seem to prefer each version pretty evenly :)
Well, it's cyberpunk, so it still worked well with the rougher original, IMHO. :)
I don't think you you fully appreciate your own lyric of " a million mortal flaws." This version is perfect, brother.
I love this game's color scheme. It's a glittering golden sunset to usher in the original Deus Ex's midnight concrete.
Wonder what the color palette will be for Mankind Divided. But, regarding the color scheme of the first game I think both of you are right, it is a golden sunset to usher in the world,of Deus Ex, but like the world it is ushering, it is twisted
Rafael Eisele pea green.
nerd1000ify Yuk, imagine all of your hud being tinted green, as well as Adams glasses!
+Blue Shell It worked for The Matrix.
+Rafael Eisele
Supposedly artificial blue with shadows.
"High tech cathedrals rise and fall
In great ravines,
Colossal steeples
To the gods in the machines".
Best. Lyric. Ever.
+Random Guy In case you don't know, "God in the machine" in Latin is "Deus Ex Machina"
Nope. Ex is from or out from. Deus Ex Machina means god from the machine.
propyne Oh, right. Close enough, though --the lyric is still clearly a reference to the name of the franchise.
Krowse Gonnun my favorite from the second one he did (natural heart, ) is "they painted a masterpiece and set them all alight, the scars of persecution always harden into spite."
"Musket guns and silver slivers, Justice runs in crimson rivers."
The lyrics. Look at those damn lyrics. This guy knows what he's doing.
Profound writing is easy. It's the singing that does it. Profound singing is less easy.
Josh Sweetvale Well, I happen to be one of the many who can easily pull off some profound singing but cant do jack to make words rhyme. Also his lyric shows that he understands what Deus Ex is.
Josh Sweetvale
not really. wrighting a song is not easy at all. rhymes and keeping within rithym and staying on topic or even trying not to be a new dr suess. singing is a huge part, but the wrighting is all but simple
Emanuel Angelone I think he just meant sounding profound. And he's right, that's pretty easy. It's a skill I know well.
Yes these lyrics to this song are literally awesome and amazing and badass and I love the intro in this song
My hearing is augmented.
Isnt everyones in this day and age.
ExtremeGamer9951 not... really
Someone doesnt get the joke...
ExtremeGamer9951 Maybe the guy actually uses a hearing apparatus, so there is actually no joke.
Good point
Just listening to this again as I had this on loop after I bought your album way back when :) I can't believe it's been a decade... love your music, Gav, it's been a JOURNEY since the Escapist and hearing your tunes and then seeing how this game and all the others you've been covering have come out and changed.
Keep doing you, you absolute legend. Thank you. Honestly, a voice of a generation in my eyes.
Nice song and lyrics. Good job, guys.
About four years later, and still this song stands as my favorite Miracle of Sound piece. The tone, the bridging of cold logic and raw emotion in the singing, the craftsmanship on the video... everything in this video will stand the test of time and speak to a fundamental human truth; people are people.
Two Black Gold! The Newer Black Gold! The N2w Black Gold! New Black Gold: Retribution! New Black Gold: Hengsha Drift! :D
Hey Gavin, have you ever thought about doing a song for, what many think is still the best game in the series, Deus Ex 1? That had an amazing soundtrack that still sounds awesome today.
2 black 2 gold?
Black Gold 2: Transhuman Boogaloo.
This is going to go great with my cyberpunk playlist
Forgot about this comment thread. Here's another: The Black and the Gold.
Might be my favourite song by Gav. Simply amazing. I still listen to it after almost 10 years.
I think the best part of Adam's augmentation is the fact that he now comes with.... wait for it.... BUILT IN SHADES. Yeah. I'm impressed.

Yes. Just yes. That may just pass the drill that pierces the heavens.
wish I had em tbh lol, u dnt have to even touch em to remove it
Think they'll come up with dragon versions
Lesst HTooth THAT WOULD BE AMAZING AS HELL. DO YOU EVEN REALIZE HOW COOL THAT WOULD BE.
Holy shit that was fucking incredible. The music and video were both superb!
Time to start playing again.
Turns out I have been listening to your songs for 10 years without realizing it. Your songs are so good.
This is my all time favorite game, and this song fits it perfectly. Absolutely amazing doesn't describe it.
i think the opinions about the fact if it sounds better or worse then the first version is affected by the fact which one was listened to as first, we are used to one version so the other sounds strange (at least i think so)
i come back to this every now and then and it's still as good as it was back then, god i fucking miss Deus Ex
I've always been confused about that moral dilemma, augmentation I mean. While your body may change into a piece of metal, your actions and thoughts is what define you as human. While great power that augmentations offer is a very tempting thing to abuse, you should stay human while you act as human. Therefore even a full-flesh man can be a ruthless machine, while a man made of metal can be more humane than any of us
Watch Repo the Genetic Opera. It gives a great idea of what human augmentation and plastic surfer could become and has in many ways already started.
RandomMajin Every great scientific development starts out as being something for the elite. There were cars well before Henry Ford, but only with the Model T could anyone afford such quick transportation. A cell phone cost thousands of dollars twenty years ago. A British subject of below-average income today in most ways enjoys a higher standard of living than a king from 300 years ago.
At first, the income gap gets might widen, but over time, everyone becomes better off from new technology.
VoodooRocker God, the best musical movie I have ever loved ever since I first watched it. I don't normally say this but, man those feels~
Puzo Deamon But after your argument logic being human is a form of behavior. So a dog could be a human since it's just a form of behaving. I guess there is a bigger difference of being human and acting in a humane manner than assumed by most.
(WARNING:PERSONAL OPINIONS AHEAD)
The question is considerably more pragmatic than philosophical. the moral dilemma proposes this: "If the rich kid can afford the fancy arm to always knock the baseball out of the park, how can the poor kid even begin to compete?" (-extra credits). this game ultimately highlights the flaws of having evolution cost something, as well as capitalism and the free market in general. the rich will transcend humanity and one day become godlike, and the poor will be left behind, trying to catch up. They won't, not while rich people are in charge enforcing an economic system that benefits the rich and crushes those who aren't. As a result, we need a system that doesn't rely on the most technologically advanced stuff being the most marketable. This was the flaw that brought down Tesla and ascended Edison. We've seen world-changing stuff bastardised by the world we live in (electricity could have been free if it weren't by Edison's stir), and I'd greatly appreciate it if it doesn't happen again.
Gavin has officially created one of the hardest song on audiosurf
Heh, I was actually wondering how this would play on Audiosurf :p
Have to try this now
BROKEN BODY BUILT ANEW, SPIRIT LINGERS, TORN IN TWO, METAL FINGERS GRIP MY HEART SO COOOLD
Is it wrong that doesn't matter which version you like. You still put this on a loop and listen to each of them over and over again. It is a classic. Should be put up for some award for best original tribute song.
So who else is hyped for the next game? And who else is hyped for the next games' song?!
*raises hand*
Raises hand as welll with exictment
Exictment. Glorious.
Mankind Divided song was released a few hours ago! :)
Gundam Heavyarms
And was re-released just a few minutes ago. :)
Easily one of your best songs ever created, just saying I love this song!
I still can't believe this only has ~90,000 views. It's easily one of your best songs and a popular game. I've come to this page about 20 times alone.
In 2 years of having the song out, you are the first person who noticed that. FINALLY!
Just heard this song on the Co-Optional Podcast today. Loved it so much I came here to listen to it, then ended up buying an album.
This makes me want this game so badly :/
If you do get it, get the directors cut
David Patterson I got it, sadly though I can't run the game haha, even on low settings it's laggy which really sucks, but my laptop is a crappy 5 year old acer so it's kidna my fault...
prototype102010
funnt, deux ex usually plays well even on bad comps.
Yeah, I posted in the forums on steam and they said it happens to everyone, it's just bad stuttering due to (probably) poor optimization.
prototype102010 I don't think they messed up the port since Deus Ex is mostly a PC game series. A 5 year old Acer laptop sounds like a bad thing to play a game on :P. You probably got some bad specs like some onboard graphics from 2008. Just wondering, what is your laptop model?
and i have enjoyed almost everyone of them. all three albums and bought a few singles i had to have. and i enjoy this new mix on the old song. just keep enjoying your self it comes across in some of the music when you have really had fun.
I love how a lot of the clothes in game have a reneissanse look to them. Symbolic. If you look at it, this entire era we live in, the modern era, began then, with great artists and first scientists in millennia. But after an age of unseen prosperity and progress, man is back pondering the same question it started it all.
What does it truly mean to be human?
Simply beautiful.
The answer to "What does it truly mean to be human?"
in the Deus Ex Universe? Whatever you want it to mean.
NorthForkFisherman True enough. Personally, more and more I'm inclined to think that the same thing goes for our universe as well. I'm not an anarchist, but I feel there is no absolute law on the matter, rather, that we as humans have to collectivelly decide what works for us. No ancient text should decide that for us.
TheLordboki Agreed. As long as it is remembered for what it was - a starting point in a time far past - we can still learn from it.
One of the favorite games + good music + quality video.
I have to say, the original "New Black Gold" was one of my favorite songs you put out (and half the reason I got into the Deus Ex franchise), and this one is a great way to start off the Director's Cut. The feel of the original, a little cleaner cut, but different enough that I can still appreciate both. You've got more talent than I can shake a stick at, Mr. Dunn!
ahhhhhh the chills on the opening....
There can be the visual changes you want, there can be as many Skyrim or Witchers (series which I both LOVE), but this serie will always remain my favorite. :D
Thanks for the tribute !
Am I the only one who liked this version better?
The whole thing is cleaner and sharper, and while I was replaying HR, I couldn't get over how much this sounded like it could be on the actual soundtrack.
Hmm. I prefer the version that, apparently, sounds less "human". I'm also the sort of person that would willingly get augmented if I had the chance...
...Shit. Am I David Sarif or something?
To quote a great man, "If there is a conflict growing between a group of people with ocean liner pistons for forearms, and a group of people who insist that everyone should be forced to be as shit as they are, I know which side I'd rather be on." Fuck the natural order, I want to be able to replace all my bits with vastly better bits
Callan Shalders HERE HERE
Getting hyped for Mankind Divided so I have this song on loop again
One of my favorite songs.
I've been playing A LOT of Deus Ex recently, and this song just sends you on the best feels trip of your life
I just listened to this with my baby for the who knows how manyeth time. Someday, probably by the time she's old enough to play it, there will be a sequel to this game. There will never be an equal to this song
It's amazing to think that this song, written well before Cyberpunk 2077 was even remotely announced let alone released, can also be surprisingly applied to Cyberpunk 2077's story, especially the chorus "Spirit lingers, torn in two" - V forcefully coexisting in their body with Johnny Silverhand
Plus all of the background described in the song can easily be applied to both the Deus Ex world and Night City...Now obviously it's a coincidence, but an amusing one
Also even years after its release this song is still a banger
Beautiful. Just...beautiful
i cannot even say how amazing your work is you should be extremely proud you have tons of talent just keeping doing what you do
Probably my favorite. Jesus, Gav, you make the bestest working songs. I don't think I woulda finished my essay if it wasn't for you~
You are an amazing artist. Not just because your songs are about games that i love, but because you are a very talented artist. I listen to your music more than any other musician. You put to song what we all feel.
i dont think ill ever get over the perfection of the icarus imagery, here or in the game itself.
This version just sounds so much more powerful than the first.
One o' my FAVOURITE SONGS You've EVER made, Mr. Dunne!!! You have my thanks for painting my dull gray life with bright colours...
A great song for one of the greatest games.
This is my favorite miracle of sound song!
I look forward to the mankind divided song!
Redem10 Soo mych hype for that game, man :D
Yep. I just found out. I'm sooooo hyped!
I'm still hyped for that mankind divided song :D
Are you still hyped for it now? :P
@@Redem10 did you listen to it yet ?
IMHO the greatest clip for your songs! really...
First Miracle Of Sound song I've ever heard(previous version). I thought you were the vocalist from Poets of the Fall. Also I was sure that's official soundtrack (it fits so perfect in the game). My gosh, I was so shocked of discovering who you are.Words(and my english level:) can't actually express how much I love what you're doing...
Gratz of the 100th vid! This is so bought!
Love this song and game
Every time I think that I've gotten used to the level of awesomeness of your songs, you manage to raise the bar and blow me away with the next one.
Keep up the good work.
Better than first version! EPIC!!!
Love love love your music Gav!
Honestly Gav it was a brave move to revisit possibly the most widely embraced song by your fans and you've done it justice by quite a ways. I still love the old version but you can really hear the jump in production quality when comparing the two.
Congrats on your 100th video and a crazy two years, even the most prolific of youtube musicians haven't come close to matching you in just the sheer amount of music you've made, nevermind the crazy variety in genre that you seem to nail everytime.
Mmm, masterpiece hearing this again after a while
I used this song in a work about trasnhumanism. Tank you!
Daniel Zty Sounds interesting (and kinda cool with this song in the background)!
I would love to see the final product!
I can’t stop listening to this, it’s so amazing. I want to see a concert where this and “the natural heart” are the encores.
Awesome song, awesome game and awesome footage. :D
Now, this was just... perfect.
I think I already commented on this once, but I just wanted to say again how much I love this song. This version is far superior in my mind. Just my opinion is all lol.
Gav, TNBG is one of my favourites and this is an excellent re-work :D Thanks for taking the time out to re-do it.
I picked this one because a) it's popular b) The Director's Cut just came out and c) I thought it would be pretty meta considering what the story is about!
Props for the Electric sheep reference
Still here to listen and following the lyrics... amazing. Just amazing.
Now that a new Deus Ex game has been announced time to listen to this again.
This would be a kick ass movie
For some reason this song will not leave my head. I don't even care about human revolution, I've never played it, but this still lingers in my mind.
A fantastic remake for a fantastic remake, awesome work
I can't comprehend the Watches/Likes ratio. He'd deserve way more likes. o.O-b
I tried, I swear QnQ I liked it but now it's like I can't give any more likes. I think youtube is broken....at least on this video. I should be allowed to give a billion likes, Obama! Damnit!
It might be indicative of people returning to watch in multiple times.
And way more views!
Well you see, the thing about that is, people dont really want to make that kind of commitment. When you like something, it ends up on this big list of all the stuff you liked, and youtube doesn't let you disable it. Also, blunger, youtube only counts unique views. That way you can't just press refresh on your own video a bunch of times and get a thousand views.
I liked and returned many many times over to listen to it again....
You are the one artist I always recommend to everyone. Thank you for being, truly, a miracle of sound.
I swear every time I see something involving Deus Ex I wish that augmentation technology was an actual thing
I wish that all the time, believe me.
Well it technically already is a thing, it's just very young technology right now.
Ok then let me rephrase my post. I wish that technology on this level was an actual thing.
silox100 Sure, as long as it didn't trick you into drug dependency, and as long as governments/corporations didn't have the ability to remotely control the prosthetics.
Well ok there's that... But c'mon that was just in the game. I'm sure that wouldn't happen in real life... Right..?
Black gold... Oil... Black and gold... 2 and a half years later, it just friggin hit me... Bravo Gav. There's like 3 layers of meaning behind the title. Awesome.
one of Your best songs! ;D
This is a great example of how far you've come. To create a spectacular song and revamp it successfully.
Awesome game, but there was one flaw that really annoyed me; you couldn't delete saved games. So I ended up having, like, 9 save files because every so often I'd accidentally hit "new save" instead of "save over current file".
"inside your wires lies a million mortal flaws."
This is still my favourite song out of your entire discography. Awesome new version :)
I come, humble and ignorant to beg for the Internet´s infinite wisdom... Should I buy this game?
Hell Heaven Fuck YES!!!!
It goes on sale quite frequently, just add to your wishlist of your preferred store and wait. The game itself is quite lore heavy, but you will need to explore to get it.
You do not already own this prescient work? HEATHEN! - GET RIGHT WITH YOUR GOD DAVID SARIF AND HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON ADAM JENSEN!
So - yeah, buy it. It's a beautiful and challenging game.
Í love the way you asked it.
Yes, buy this. But I recommend you to buy the Orginal Deus Ex as well, since it's quite fun. And you'll understand more :>
Just to reaffirm what those above me said already: yes, definitely get it.
Oh my FUCKING GOD, Gavin. I'm gonna cry. You're amazing.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Alternate Title - Adam Gets PISSED!)
+NorthForkFisherman This comment deserves more recognition
Congrats on 100th video, man! Keep rolling!
I listen to this every time I'm at the gym. I've lost 50 pounds now. " broken body built a new "
NOICE! :)
***** you've lost me. You lose so much weight you can barely afford food?

The power of words ;)
Human revolution was the best game I have ever played. So good! I really hope for a sequal and a movie!
A soul slave of a mechanical body. The future of mankind
I have to say this is one of the best songs from you gavin great work.
0:50 gods in the machines; see what'cha did there, Mr. Dunne.
Glad someone noticed that lol... Deus Ex Machina
No omnisiaah?
Got there because my friend. I just have no words; subscribing and hoping you keep going with those!
одна из лучших, а может быть самая лучшая месня MoS! сколько бы ни слушала, всегда мурашки и немного глаза слезятся даже... красота.
You've inspired me to go back and try and beat the game again. Time for a complete combat build.
I feel so bad that I've never finished this game. Every time I start, I get a little bit ahead, then I just get the "nah" feeling, and put my controller down. And that is really a shame, since this is a great game!
I did the same thing but then when i was about to stop one time i was like " no keep going". I only stopped to sleep after that.
I have planned to do that for some time now, but I've never had the time. I think when the summer vacation starts, I'll finish it for good.
Otto Kylänlahti And after, I'd highly recommend playing Deus Ex 1 all the way through. The graphics suck, but the lore is far more interesting (which says a lot), and moreso than DX:HR, you really can choose to playthrough any way you like, with skill points in any circumstance - even by swimming in many cases.
That is such an amazing way to look at this, it fits in to the two songs so well
Awesome epic ending.
I think the guitar should be louder or heavier during the chorus, but that's just my taste.
Holy shit! I didn't even notice the guitat 'till you mentioned it!
A bit of human touch under the synthesizer machinery? Just my opinion, I think it's very good the way it is.
