Good to see one of these. I learned about engines tearing apart and rebuilding these old flatheads when I was a kid. They basically started me on my career path. One of these days I am going to build a nice one.

Hello Chuck, I used to work on these when I was a kid also. It’s nice to have another to build. I’ve built a few of the clone style but these flat heads are a different animal. Thanks for watching!!

Definitely I’ll put it back together better than it was. The engine ran good on the Mega Moto frame. I will put it back on that frame. Thanks for checking it out!

"Biggs" is looking good! Thank you for the channel mention. I wonder if "Biggs" might be a 4.75 or 5HP "Quantum" engine. ( IMO by looking at the shape of the combustion chamber of the head it looks like a "Quantum" design.) It's definitely not a standard 3.5HP cylinder head. They may have started with the 3.5HP block but it's a whole other animal with the design changes. Those "Quantum" engines were a little different design and I had thought they were most commonly found in vertical shaft applications? I also believe "Biggs" to have 5HP if it is based on the "Quantum" design. So just a little smaller in size than the older 5HP engines, but with increased HP. I'm not a Briggs historian or anything but I do remember their "Quantum" engine design stage where they increased the output power of their small engines with a few design changes. The cylinder head combustion chamber (like Bigg's) was one of these design changes. If you can locate some pics of 3.5 HP Briggs cylinder heads and check out the combustion chamber there's a big difference between those and "Biggs".

That’s a load of good information. I know when I bought Biggs it was advertised as a 5hp and other info I found said 5hp also. But as other people pointed out that. Biggs is too small to be a 5hp and the model number was wrong. I don’t know much about B/S engines but it’s fun to build. My new to me 130202 you suggested come in today. Really excited about that. I did buy another 3hp which should be similar to Biggs. I’ll take a look at the head when I get it apart. Thank for watching!!

Before you reuse that plastic cam try to find a picture of a new one so you can see if that intake lobe is suppose to be flattened like that, I wouldn't think it should be like that. It's crazy that they would make it out of plastic to begin with. I'm all for porting and polishing engines for better flow, can make a difference in performance.👍🇺🇸

I had concerns about the flattened lobe also. I found a new one but doesn’t show a good picture of it. Maybe I’ll just buy it and wait for it to arrive. Porting and polishing should help with flow and that should equal power… Hopefully 🤞 😂
Any way it’s fun building the engines.

It’s a name for a race engine by Briggs and Stratton. It maybe an aftermarket block based off the 5hp Briggs. Not completely sure.. Either way it’s a flat head race engine. Sellers want big money for Raptor engines. Since I kinda have a passion for the flat heads I’m looking for them.
