This episode of Lady Killers finds Lucy Worsley hot on the heels of Maria Manning, the ‘Lady Macbeth of Bermondsey’, who in 1849 London confounded expectations of Victorian England. Maria is accused of conspiring with her husband to kill her lover and steal the dead man’s money before going on the run. Lucy is joined by literary superstar Kate Mosse and historian Professor Rosalind Crone to untangle this remarkable story.

Lady Killers sees Lucy Worsley and a crack team of female detectives investigate the crimes of women from the 19th and 20th Century from a contemporary, feminist perspective. Lucy is joined by an all-female detective team to dig deeper into the social issues and circumstances that helped to create these murderesses. In Season 3, guest detectives include barristers, a psychiatrist, an indigenous rights advocate, a former U. S. Secret Service agent, and a best-selling Gothic novelist.

I'll enjoy anything Lucy gives us! She's a historian that I don't even need to know what it's about because I know I'm going to love it.
Same. I see her name and I click. Easy!
Indeed,Lucy is awesome!
So right!
Absolutely! She brings history back to life!!! Best modern day historian!
Exactly! I honestly believe if history teachers used her videos, they would create another generation of history fans, as well as future history teachers and historians. All successful historians since time began were ultimately good storytellers.
Nothing makes me happier than something new from Lucy Worsley!
I agree!
Lucy is my favorite. She brings British history to life and as the Brits say, she does it with a bit of cheek. More Lucy Worsley please. 🙂
I agree! I love watching Lucy dive into history
The trifecta of awesomeness. Lucy Worsley, History, and True Crime.
Lucy is a British gem!!!
She always makes history come alive, and not boring.
Kudos to you Lucy, waiting for any future videos from you
Jean, from the Pacific Northwest.
Can we take a moment to appreciate the beautifully appointed Set decor…….and this is a pod cast.
I was looking at that room as well, very nice and cozy.
I Adore Lucy. I once e-mailed and she responded. I told everyone and everyone was "So? " I did enjoy her tendency of rhotacism that is now absent. Can not get enough.
Lucy Worsley is fantastic. Will watch any program that she is involved in.
More of Lucy Worsley please , anything is good...
I was skeptical and only played the video because I like Lucy Worsley as a presenter. I'm glad I gave this a listen, I found it a fascinating story.
Lucy Worsley could present an historical event or even just read the phone book and I would gladly ney I would cherish her recital. She's a rare historian with a broad based comprehensive knowledge cashe with a sensativity particularly regarding the historical barriers and accomplishments of women. BRAVA LUCY!
Just come across this series by chance. Lucy is such a gem! I would even watch the weather report in Mandarin language if it was only reported by her! Everything she does is fun, educational and just great! Thank you! Kindest regards from Berlin Germany
Lucy looks great! She looks younger than she did 10y ago. I want her skin care secrets!
Everything Lucy Worsley presents is always great to watch.
I have been listening to Victorian ghost and crime fiction stories (Bitesized Audio, Tony Walker, Jasper L'Estrange), so it is wonderful to hear about real Victorian crime! I'm over the moon!
Very enjoyable, love Lucy Worsley's witty and fun approach to history's mysteries.
OMG!!! Love Lucy, Kate & Roz! What a great story! And the start of a great series it would seem. Thank-you girls. More, more please.👏
I love to fall asleep listening to her.then Ill watch the whole video later..I love her voice!
I love the youtube version of these podcasts where we get to see the people's faces (both the presenters and the artists' renderings of the people involved in the case)
I would love to hear (and watch) more of these goose bump history lessons, perfectly taylored as a bedtime story. Great!
Lucy is one of my favorites! She's always interesting and witty.
I have enjoyed your stories about Lady Killers. It’s about time the ladies get their chance to be in the spotlight.I’m a long time Sherlock Homes fan.
So happy to see this! I love Lucy, she makes history so fun and intriguing.
a fine trio of ladies brewing up a treat of a tale of murder - thank you all!!!
always enjoy any program with which Lucy's involved - ta from Tampa!
Thank you Lucy, I really enjoyed this.
I love listening to Lucy Worsley. Keep it coming, Lady Lucy.
Lucy could read me the dictionary and I would find it thrilling! Love you, Lucy!
Lucy brings history alive in all ways. Her face, the eyes inviting you to enjoy the titillating truths and rumors . Like so many others, if Lucy is delivering, I'm in.
YAY! It's Lucy!!!
EXCELLENT....unique in terms of how the episode is portrayed and directed.
Great insights! Enjoyed this very much.
Lucy's the best!
What a great show! I'll definitely be watching more Lucy in the future 💜
I have to finish season 2 first but I'll be back! I'm familiar with the case and look forward to a new perspective.
Also, how does Lucy Worsley manage not to age? Like, at all?
I really like this episode! I did not know what Victorian England was like much, and this story did help me understand how very different it was, and how far we've come in court proceedings and judgements today. #LucyWorsley #CoffeeandMurder #Wednesday #Toronto
lucy! love this! keep them coming!
I am infatuated by Lucy Worsley!
Omg I had no idea this had videos! I've been listening on the BBC iPlayer this whole time! I've listened to every episode but now I definitely have to go back and see all the places and stuff that I thought you were only describing!

Hi from Australia 🇦🇺 love ❤ Lucy you can hear everything she says could listen to her all day!
Love this! Can someone tell me what beautiful purple bushes are at 4:31? 😊
Lucy looks fabulous standing in front of that beautiful bush.
oh my goodness I am so in love with this pretty, beautiful, smart lady! love all she does!
Love it❤❤❤❤❤❤
Very good, Lucy!
Ahhhhh it’s back yessssssssss
Greetings from Florida 🐬 Thank You for Sharing, true nail biters !!
I really dig every show she does
A long time ago, i purchased a box set of DVDs of Miss Marple episodes. Tucked in there was LW, speaking marvellously of various Victorian murder cases, and I was hooked - style, diction, thespian chops, you name it. And thereafter I watched anything I could. And here I am again, after a dry few years. I am piling in once more.
What an amazing bush in the background! Do you mind telling how it is called? Thanks in advance.
Well said cynthiaalver❤👍👍
Thank ypu Lucy!
Thank you.
I have never heard of this show. Very interesting. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I love Lucy but I've heard this story enough times already
What’s the name of the fabulous bush of purple blossoms in front of their interview takes place?
How in the world is Lucy not a Dame?!
Lucy is so entertaining, funny, and brilliant, and cute as hell!
"the thrill of the shudder"... I think it has something to do with "better them than me" too. Learning about death makes us feel more alive. (listen to the song, vicarious by tool, the singer is quite mad about this part of human nature)
I love Lucy!
Why is Lucy sitting so much higher than anyone else? Must add great story and wonderful story telling from Lucy.
Lucy......**thinks to himself**... I find something salaciously attractive in her wild enthusiasm, and gorgeous broad smile, when talking about the macabre .
😳😶🌫️😳🫶
Ive always loved this story and think it would make a great movie..
@11:31 That is the happiest horse! 😊😁
Could it be that I have seen this story as a film at the BBC ??
Lucy, your great!
21:50 "That's really creepy of you, Dickens." =D
I love Lucy!❤
Love the way Lucy Worsley speaks. Some might say it's a speech impediment, to me, it only adds to her charm.
I read somewhere that she went to a speech therapist for a time, but it didn't "take" so she just goes with it. She's marvelous.
@@laurie4468 She is marvelous! Rotacism is more common than it would seem. I live in a very small town. There are three people with Rotacism aka Elmer Fudd Syndrome. Yep, it really is sometimes referred to as that.
The myth of the victimized murderer is getting tedious. Maybe she was merely a manipulative psychopath.
Lucy Worsley is brilliant and adorable. I'll take anything she makes.
I am botanically challenged: what is that bush with breathtaking blue blossoms at 4:25??
See answer below for further detail Ceanothus thyrsiflorus.
At 11.40 anyone know the name of that purple flowered shrub?
The only purple shrub I know are hydrangeas or lilac that might have that hue.
But I'm from USA and woefully ignorant of European plants.
Just thought I would comment to get the ball rolling.😄
Silly American- California lilac😂 Just teasing you - We have a big country! Scientific name:Ceanothus thyrsiflorus. Also known as blue blossom. USDA zone 7
Is Jim Carter the male narrator voice here?
There isn't a single topic she can't make interesting
The seating dynamic is very uncomfortable
What type of accent is that (region)?
Good heavens, Professor! You and your confederates reveal some prime skulduggery!
As wonderful as this episode is, I would like it turned into a Dateline episode. Narrated by Keith Morrison. The U.S. based TV series.
Wished all of the Episodes could be watched, not just listened to.
Were they executed at Tyburn?
1849- London - Lady killers of more than hundred years ago ! First Patrick O Connor went missing ! Soon a body was found under a kitchen floor of a house occupied by Maria and Fredrick Manning. It was found that the missing man Patrick had an illicit affair with Maria.
I couldn't watch this, even though I love Lucy. The flashes of light every few seconds and the rapid scene changes made me queasy. So sad.
The only woman who can sound like Elmer Fud and get paid for it. Lol
Yuuuuccchhh grisley story
You got to love Lucy woohoo
I want to be Lucy Worsley :-)
Three people died horribly
I know this is probably a British thing, but why is Lucy’s chair so much higher than the guest?
I wondered about that too. They have their own little quirks, eh? (from Canada)
Maria was only in her 20s when she was executed.
Ms. or Dr.? Worsley is a better Ambassasor to England than the Royal Family.
I don't love the misfortune of the victims i like the history of what has happened and the hopes that the murderer gets there come up ins.....But the interest is always historical.
"Useless Fredrick..." Man bad.Woman good. I was hoping to avoid that for once. I really enjoyed this except for the man-bashing. Also, there are so many holes in this. I realize this is for the general public, and I'm glad it isn't for a doctoral dissertation.
Does not the idea of committing murder negate the idea of being a lady ?
Lucy is a Babe !!!😜
Its pronounced Radio with an R not Wadio with a double U
