1), tent: DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOOOOT!!!!!!!!!!!! get a tent that uses a lot of far reaching guy wires (the lines/wires to stabilize your tent). Get a tent that doesn't need them! Your tent will most likely not survive without incident if it has a bunch of wires stretching out from it. I can't count the amount of times I, or other festival goes have stumbled of those even in bright daylight (just imagine at night with close to no lighting) 2): Bring a very small, pocket sized flashlight for traversing the tripwire tent sites. People will pay you in beer for being allowed to follow you around like a duck army if you're the one with the power of working light. 3): Don't underestimate the tip of wet wipes! You can wipe sh* encrusted toilet seats, wipe your own crusts, if it's far to the showers or if they're too crowded you can clean your essentials, and if you get dirty (spoiler alert: you WILL get dirty) you can wipe your hands before handling food that you eat/cook. What you don't want is a messed up digestive system. With the amounts of alcohol you're likely to ingest you are going to have enough trouble as it is, you don't want to add a food borne illness to that, especially not for your trip back home where you just want to relax and decay in your seat instead of having to run to the toilet every ten minutes. 4): If you go as a couple, make sure to secretly pack a supply of nuts or chocolate bars that you reserve for your gf/spouse. That'll garner you love and respect for the rest of your life if you suddenly whip out some food supplies for when her cravings are at their worst! As a trade-off you won't have to think about wet wipes, she'll have packed them already! ;P
9:47 cat I would also add that depending on the weather and where festival located a rain poncho is a good investment , compact to carry compared to umbrella, and if it starts raining it doesn't matter how many clothes you had, you will get wet and eventually cold if you get soaked through.
More items to take. Essential: Paracetamol, aspirin, Super Essential: toothbrush/paste, nobody wants a mouth that resembles/tastes like an ashtray filled with beer.
I laughed so far when the Axe body spray appeared. Also I'd personally recommend bringing some medicine like dramamine and claritine or tylenol incase your insides get messed up.
I went to my first festival 24 years ago (ouch!), so I didn't really need this video, but I did feel affirmed that I'm doing festivalling right. :') The most important thing I've learned is that you shouldn't feel too cool for certain things and you should pick comfort over cred every time. Protect your ears, drink enough water so you don't feel like shit, wear the ugly but comfy shoes and most of all: Have fun and go with the proverbial flow.
Tent poles are pretty important,i left those home for last weeks nummirock. Also i forgot a pump for air matress😂 But there was guys that were prepaired for that and everything went just fine.metalheads are always ready to help another.❤
I remember the time I thought hey it'll be fine I can just blow this up regular and while I actually succeeded I found myself sitting right down on the air mattress the second it was done.
Just to comment on the solar battery packs you mentioned at 8:54, don't get the ones shown in the video. They can barely charge a god damn calculator let alone a phone and they false advertise to shit. If you want to do want to charge your phone via the power of the sun, get one of those portable solar chargers like one from BigBlue, Flexsolar, Powerness, or anything similar that folds out. Not ones that is just a solar panel on top of a relatively tiny battery bank. Edit for the thing literally afterwards about electrical standards, be careful when converting electrical standards, because for example the USA uses different voltages than Europe (110v vs 220v), so you could end up frying your device by sending too many volts to it which is def not smth you want happening at a multi day festival. I believe the converter you have is fine from my research. but keep in mind to get something that regulates voltages and not just smth that converts the connector
Something i always bring is a flag and an improvsied flagpole. The flagpole is really just a fishing rod i repurposed, but i can stick in my hugeass backpack and it doesnt stick out too much over the top. Makes it easier to find your way home, or guide people to your camp when you can tell them "just look for the Jolly Rodger and Dark side of the Moon flags!". If several of you are camping together, you could bring a hugeass tarp to stretch over your tents. It actually keeps the worst of the suns heat out, and will make your camp the most attractive one in the entire campground when the rain inevitably starts.
I don't go to festivals but I do a lot of camping, I would say protein powder in a Ziploc bag is a must. Easy, fast meal for breakfast and lunch and packs away nicely.
Also worth adding to the list. Even though it seems obvious, don’t forget your ticket. In the rush of getting stuff loaded and ready for Sonic temple this year I left my wristband on my desk. Had to spend 100 bucks overnighting it to my brothers. Don’t be a dumbass like me, remember your ticket
Guys I’ve heard that if your going to one of the big festivals over in Europe, you want good boots. That’s what my friend says who’s at hellfest, she says they’re life savers.
I'm going to Party.San festival next month and your video reminded me, that I haven't bought beer yet. Getting pallets of beer in Germany, when festival season has already started can get tricky sometimes.
I can't believe we are here again... just a few days away from rusted axe in Krakow and then festival straight through the end of August. Hell yeah! Good to see you Wyatt!
I really loved seeing clips from Nummirock 2024 aftermovie in this video since I've just about recovered from that festival. The best midsummer I've had in a while. Also a great video now i got to see everything I forgot to take with me😂 Keep up the great work Wyatt🤘
I love TetraPaks that have some sort of protein shake inside of them. TetraPaks have an extremely long shelf life and protein is so necessary when you’re out there. If you’re a cramper, take a taurine supplement.
Perfect timing. 😂 I was just thinking that this summer since I've been going to European festivals for 10 years, it's time I show up with no Gear at all - just shorts, flip-flops and a Vermilia T-shirt!
It's amazing how much stuff you can regret not brining without helpful vids like this. I'd have to reiterate bringing water. Do NOT trust claims of 'there will be water stations'. I made that mistake going on a long boat tour. They said there'd be water...they just didn't mention it would be hot and taste like bilge water...GAK!
For the Metal Baddies, don't forget your feminine hygiene items, some advils for cramps etc. Being on your period during a festival can suck on your body but you can still have fun🤘🏻 I'd recommend to bring some Pain meds, antihistamine, first aid kit items like bandaids. Accidents can happen in the pit
few more tips after arrival first set up your tent, then start drinking, never the other way don't recoment suitcase these are good for cities and airports, but on fest you'll go miles outdoor, with grass or sand or dirt or mud or wherever you're going. I've already killed 2 suitcases this way, the wheels break quite easily trusty backpack or sports bag are your friends when it comes to alcohol more %%% = less to carry on, scotch, rum, vodka - whatever you'd like you can always buy some beer on camp. Just make sure your place allows to take it in or you might want to hide it inside your sleeping bag ;)
and the biggest gamechanger i've ever found - mylar blankets and some silvertape just cover your tent with it and it'll stay cool inside even in the biggest sun
Bring very old clothing that you can wear one last time, and toss it when you're at the festival after wearing it. This way, you're not over packing on your way back if you buy new merch, and if you don't, your backpack will be less heavy!
Do not forget, that earplugs can be incredible usefull when you're trying to sleep. Cause these tents are not exactly soundproof and it can get quite loud at night.
Now this is classic Wyatt material Every time I see the bit about the GoFundMe, I feel a little bad because I am poor as shit and cannot help without failing to pay for food or rent
Great list. I do have one addition, even though it has been mentioned before: duct tape. Just in case a drunk crashlands into your tent and you have no other but to tape the broken poles. Real story, not my own experience.
For the water bottle, I'd recommend getting a Grayl Geopress and spare filter. They're a little pricey, but I'd rather that over waterborne illness from a contaminated water buffalo. That thing takes care of viruses and bacteria.
Gaffa Tape is the one very important camping item you missed. And knifes, forks and spoons. Cold Ravioli do not taste right if you eat them with your bare hands.
If you drink enough beer you won't need a tent. So basically getting absolutely sloshed and then camping out under the stars ending up killing your battery with the quite extensive nwobhm playlist that you accidentally fell asleep listening too? also I want to hear more about that sword that it looks like you went and purchased that should make for a hell of a good story.
I wish california had something more than Aftershock (I might go this year), around me is only garbage "music" festival that is about everthing but the music). and a good amount of 420!
I dont see the point of Deo, go to the showers, best feeling ever! Also get a giant fleece towel, put water on it and drape over head and or shoulders. You stay cooler that way but youll look ridiculous :P
I'd highly recommended bringing Immodium or some other anti diarrhea pills, especially if you have a touchy stomach. Nobody wants to have the fucking runs at a festival because you ate something that didn't agree with you.

#1 all the way. Someone will fall on your tent.
Excellent info (and damn funny, too)! Thank you 🤗
I will take this guide to heart and take 5 backpacks of beer to Hellfest.
Dont forget the toilet roll and sunscreen
You will be the hero of the day anywhere you go. 😂
Perfect timing, literally packing my bags tonight for europe festival season later next month. Gonna turn into corpsegrinder by the end of it

Or to OD on dramamine
Literally packing my bags for Brutal Assault from Australia.
Cheers Wyatt!
At the gates "But The Savior of Metal said it's ok to have an Astronaut Helmet!"
Festival Employee-(sigh)That’s the 17th one today.

You need also duct tape for fixing everything.super glue and band-aids are pretty useful too.

Cable ties also come in very handy for fixing things

This^ Had a mate arrive at Metal Days (before the unpleasantness) only to realise his ticket was still in the UK
@@downwiththissortofthing7433😃 good to see you're still in the land of the living! Miss your videos!

I’ve had YET to do a camping metal festival…. So this video is a great help!!!!!!! Thanks Wyatt!!!
I always take extra weed, I can trade for anything I forgot lol
I have never been to a metal concert or metal festival before in my life but I am 100% saving this vid for when the time comes 🤙🤙
I've been going to festivals for 10+ years, and everything in this video checks out. Have fun fellow headbangers!
The kit mention for being comfortable to wear and easy to sneak drink in made me proud to be a Heavy Metal Scotsman 🏴🤘
The Deodorant joke made me pause the video do I could calm myself down from laughter 😂😊

Can't wait to watch this video again 20th July, the day before we head for Tolminator. Even though I have been going to festivals for years 😂
It's amazing how much stuff you can regret not brining without helpful vids like this. I'd have to reiterate bringing water. Do NOT trust claims of 'there will be water stations'. Already survived Sonic Temple (my first metal fest) ready to rock at Louder Than Life in a couple months!
Me and my brother were at sonic. Me and the wife will be at LTL.
For the Metal Baddies, don't forget your feminine hygiene items, some advils for cramps etc. Being on your period during a festival can suck on your body but you can still have fun🤘🏻

few more tips

I want to go to a music festival so bad, but I'm also a huge introvert and have problems with crowds. One day, hopefully sooner than later.
Bring very old clothing that you can wear one last time, and toss it when you're at the festival after wearing it.
This way, you're not over packing on your way back if you buy new merch, and if you don't, your backpack will be less heavy!

Pro tip for hot summer festivals: inflatable paddling pool! This can cool you and your beer cans down!
Amazing Timing, gonna go to my first festival this august(Wacken), this fits just perfectly
Now this is classic Wyatt material
Every time I see the bit about the GoFundMe, I feel a little bad because I am poor as shit and cannot help without failing to pay for food or rent
First festival gonna be Tolminator. It will be just for Saturday, but am planning to get a massive group for next year to camp with.
Low key hate that most festivals are in the weather I hate the most 😢
Great list. I do have one addition, even though it has been mentioned before: duct tape. Just in case a drunk crashlands into your tent and you have no other but to tape the broken poles. Real story, not my own experience.
You are going to perform at Tolminator? Now I don't have an excuse not to go.
Aaah. Mark Harmon and the knuckleheads from Summer School. Classic!
Will try to use your guide for Wacken 2024. ;)
For the water bottle, I'd recommend getting a Grayl Geopress and spare filter. They're a little pricey, but I'd rather that over waterborne illness from a contaminated water buffalo. That thing takes care of viruses and bacteria.
Way to show off your editing and script writing skills, well done!!! 🤘😎🤟 I gotta get me one of those offensive rainbow cat death metal T shirts 🤔
I'm going to Knotfest Iowa.
for the guys, gold bond !!
Gaffa Tape is the one very important camping item you missed.
And knifes, forks and spoons. Cold Ravioli do not taste right if you eat them with your bare hands.
Where is the First Aid Kit after moshing?
What about your valuables? What are some tips to prevent sly guys and gals pillaging your camp site?
Deodorant should be on here 5 more times. My god people.
Too late just came back from graspop and hellfest, only forgot a few items. The winner definitely goes to wet wipes, these things will save you.
Dude, I just came back from Graspop!
Got the mud out of your holes yet? 😄
Me and my friends ate only spaghettos and some drunks made a fire so we fried spam
Broooo
This is also a guide to GenCon survival!
Sunday at a festival normally smells so bad
You can buy powdered electrolytes? Wow that is cool.
So being in the military for 5 years did prepare me for something😂

Anytime I travel! I don't want my vacation I saved up for months spent on the toilet suffering.
Canopy. Tapestry. Sunscreen. Don’t bring your girlfriend
Headed to brutal assault in Aug 🫡

You should be a travel agent. Seriously.
