as a small artist, bluesky feels a lot better just because for the most part, you're art actually feels seen and it also feels easier to grow. on the other hand, a majority of my mutuals just use it as another place to post their art and don't really use it as a social media. so it lacks a "community" feel in my case. but i am aware that most people are not experiencing this
@@bakedmochi some of my friends have been growing there since the very beginning! I would advise maybe finding some of these artist friends that might not necessarily be on bluesky, but are willing to join in the future, I think.
update (this is from what i experienced as a user on bsky): now that there are way more users on the platform, using hashtags doesn't really work unless you're already a big artist (for the most part. i think you're going to have to play it similar to old instagram where you had to choose tags that weren't popular to see any effect from it) things are heavily reliant on reposts from other people. that is where most of your growth and exposure will come from. most "mutuals" that i made do not ineract back on my posts at all. this reemphasizes my point in my original comment that there is no "community" feel. if you don't have people who genuinely want to grow WITH you, or a community that engages with your art, it's gonna feel like you're just posting into the void. since there is no algorithm, all you can do is spam repost it to hopefully get eyes on your art. timing of your post is also crucial. however, if you can find a supportive community then bsky is great! i just wanted to highlight some of the biggest negatives i've experienced because i don't want people to go in thinking that it's some magical social media where everything is good. also there is a opt out of grok ai on twitter. because if this, quite a few people have stopped using bsky completely and just use twitter
Tbh, I also want to hop onto Bluesky, but having lots of social media/art pages is mentally tiring, at least for me. That and jumping from platform to platform and re-uploading my art over the years has really gotten tiresome. Good luck to those who are on Bluesky or will try Bluesky! I hope it will be better than Twitter!
I'm just tired of jumping from platform to platform gaining little to know engagement or jumping in a full waiting line of people.. just to find out that in reality as long as you're an acclaimed artist from 2014 you'll always be on top of artists that have under 500 followers no matter the platform It's just how it goes otherwise how else are these platforms gonna regulate algorithms when there's over a million artists trying to go viral At some point it's just not worth it. Putting your art out there for ai to sooner or later train because that platform decided to embrace it
I just checked out Bluesky! Currently I've started sharing my digital art online, trying to grow my social media pages. The current try on twitter, I have 7 likes ( all 3 of my posts together ) that came over the past few days. I never have had Twitter for a simple reason, it is a media with a social component for the most part. Everything else is a consequence from it. On the other hand BlueSky is at least right now a social media for artists by artists unlike Twitter. This is how I made a decision which one to pick.
I mean, a true platform for artists by artists already exists. It's Cara. BlueSky is a Twitter alternative where the general public can interact with artists. (To clarify, I think Bluesky is a cool place. I have both, and am more active of BlueSky at the moment due to more engagement from both artist and non-artist accounts. It's helpful for artists to have both, one to serve as a portfolio and another as regular social media)
people still want twitter advice bc blue sky literally doesn’t protect your art from external data scraping for ai, so moving seems pointless (you mentioned that later) also glaze has been shown not to work/to train ai to just avoid glazed art rather than being poisoned. furthermore systems like glaze use the same ai as image generators, affecting the environment, reducing its pros just to defending your art.

Lots of what we lost is to be found there, at least that is true. Lost a part of myself when I did still use other platforms. But when I gave Bluesky a shot I realized in knowing what I have lost, I know what I have left and was good enough as it motivated me, maybe hope, but in what I do I will play my part. Great vid and amazing art
