17:35 A lot of times it probably has nothing to do with you. I think a lot of people don't actually commission art that often and it might be a couple of years before they want or need something commissioned again. In my own case it was nearly a 3 year gap between the last 2 times I actually commissioned an illustrator for 2D art because it's not something I do very often.
If someone commissioned you and they were happy with what they received they will most likely consider you again next time they need or want something but it might be awhile before that happens. So I wouldn't really overthink about this.

@MistyKathrine Well, a friend of mine gets commissioned by recurrent clients for personal commissions a lot. When I was faced with that fact, I started believing that yes, that is possible. The matter is: finding people that WANT to come back, not people who NEED to come back, if that makes sense. I'm still finding out how to pull that off.

@@Sayuui Oh, I'm not saying it doesn't happen, it definitely does and is good when it does, I just mean don't take it personally if you don't have a lot repeats yet, it probably has nothing to do with you and you're probably not doing anything wrong.
Just keep doing your best and I'm sure you'll start having more repeat clients soon. :)

@yavnrh Thank you so much! And yeah, it's a lot easier. I think it's really posh when an artist can spark interest of other people by just drawing their original stuff. Looks like something I'd love to pull off one day.

i have started teaching myself art since i was 8. now i am 18. art is my passion and i feel like i dont fit into the adult world. all i am good in is to draw, so i want to make it a living. but its hard. depression is stopping me from being motivated. social media has never treated me well. i graduated from school and now i am a neet because i dont know how to work as an artist. i dont know what to do anymore.

    • @Sayuui
      @Sayuui  12 дней назад

I don't know about your life, so I can't offer advice based on your experience. But the world is bad for everyone right now. I've been hearing that finding a fulltime job is a fulltime job in itself right now. If you love drawing, I think you should start drawing every day and try turning it into a career.
A lot of people waste their lives in a job they hate and end up spending money on hospital and therapy only to find out they should have done what they loved in the first place. I personally think being a neet is better than having student loan debt, as long as you have somewhere to live and keep trying to make your passions work.
I have friends who are over 30 years old and haven't been able to draw regularly yet or opened commissions yet. This probably more common than you think. I hope you can find the strenght to reach your goals!

I started "anime" illustration like 6 or 8 months ago, so i didn't expected much, and i wasn't even good back there, but its insane when i manage to cook something genuinely good and just cant even pass the mark of 1k views and 100 bookmarks on Pixiv and 0 retweets on Twitter, when it was more than enough to appear on Pixiv rankings. I hate to admit, but i think i just have to stop painting and study marketing. It hurts just to think that.

It's been a pleasure to discover your channel this year. I even put some of your advice into use and it helped me with social media! ❤
That SMART method is cute! I feel that its also better to set goals that only depend on yourself. For example "Reaching 300 followers by the end of this month" is very arbitrary and has a lot of random factors going into it. But "Posting sketches twice a week for the next month" only comes down to your own work ethic. I strongly believe that growth comes from looking inwards first.
I hope 2025 will be good to you as well.

You can make people feel good if you work on hard with their commission listen to there wants and desires for it share often your progress and keep in touch if you want something changed.
I cannot multi task for the life of me and I cannot talk to people while working on art, I get overwhelmed and distracted and it slows down the progress and it slows down my ability to hyperfixate on it which is where I do my best. Every single client I have ever gotten has come back for return commissions. You just give them good work and a good product keep them updated listen to what they actually want and inform them frequently about the progress and when changes can be made and the full scope of work.

@@Sayuui TBH my art was really bad and is still not very good so I don't do it anymore so idk how I even got work ngl.
But like, word of mouth is POWERFUL
ask them if they have any friends that want art/tell them if they were a delight to work with even if you don't feel well u gotta do that customer service, be happy, friendly, cheery, even if stuffs going on irl. If you give them a good experience they will remember you and tell/show their friends who will also want your art and want to come back. Be clear and honest about scope or work and revisions or costs so they know what to expect!!
      I wish you luck
