This is my favorite game of all time. I've yet to find someone with the same opinion.
Same dragon warrior 1-4 and D&D order of the griffon on turbo graphics 16, are my favourites, great memories
I can't say my favorite, but it's definitely the most meaningful. I probably wouldn't like rpgs today if I hadn't played dq1 over 30 years ago
It's one of my favorite play throughs. I made maps on graph paper through all the dark caves and castles so I wouldn't get lost. My first time playing at all and beating it was 2 years.
3 is better imo but I have definitely played 1 at least a dozen times
Definitely one of my top 5. I love it's simplicity yet perfect balance.
One secret is that once you get the sleep spell, at level 7, you can fight the axe knight for the armor of Erdrick. It takes a LOT of luck. From testing, the earliest level you can hope to defeat the dragonlord (at least with the "normal" mp )is 19. You have just enough mp to survive the fight
Great tip! I just got it at level 8. I was grinding for Half Plate, so you saved me a ton of time and gold lol.

6:08 I remeber reading somewhere that if you die while wearing the death necklace, you will wake up at Tantegel Castle but you will only be revived with 1 HP. The King will then vanish you from the castle after reprimanding you. So, yeah, as Turn Based Memories said, don't equip the death necklace!

It actually happens also with the cursed belt.
In the remakes, the Dragon's Scale gives +5 to Defense, making it the most cost-effective early-game protective gear. You can completely ignore both cloth and leather armor and just wait to buy chain mail with about 5-10 minutes less gold grinding, and going from "no armor and dragon's scale" to "chain mail and dragon's scale" is a better upgrade than going from "leather armor and no dragon's scale" to "chain mail and no dragon's scale".
The remakes also replaced Hurt (a spell which does _less_ damage than your melee strikes will by the time you learn it at a cost of 2 MP) with Firebal (which instantly kills most of the monsters you'll be otherwise struggling with around that level for 4 MP). Makes offensive magic actually serve a purpose even if _overall_ it's the healing, status, and utility spells that are superior regardless.
Did they fix the Fighter's Ring so it actually boosts something in the remakes?
@@otakubullfrog1665 If it does boost anything, it's something invisible and minor. I've read conflicting things about it on forums and the Prima strategy guide. Claims that it reduces overworld enemy encounters if you're above the monster's level, claims that it doesn't reduce encounter rates but _does_ make monsters more likely to flee from you when fights crop up, claims that it boosts your critical hit rate by an amount so small you still won't notice it over the full course of a playthrough, and so forth.
i beat this game many years ago.
the one secret mechanic that shocked me the most is the starting stats. i always assumed they were standardized.

Not to be THAT GUY, (subscribed to you) but I think you may have missed one tiny detail. The metal slime's run-chance is (I thought) calculated differently from any other enemy's and it is much more frequently running from you than any other enemy. Also I believe but am not sure that the fighter's ring somehow raises your crit rate.

I think I said you can't crit the Dragonlord. As in, you can't pull off an excellent move on him.
If you get lucky and stick the Dragonlord with Stopspell, that whole phase of the battle becomes hilarious, as he will continue to try to cast and fail.

Yeah. I don't know why, but there is no Erdrick's Shield. Not that I know of, anyway.
Very well done sir! I had no idea your first 4 letters would have any impact on the game. I loved playing all the NES RPGs when i was growing up. Final Fantasy was my first true love but this was 2nd.

So naming your character causes different stat increase. Is that applicable to other entries in the series? DW2, 3 or 4 at all?

Since it stands for "Frequently asked Questions" and has a spelling that sounds like it, I always said "Facts" like "Game Facts".
It's been awhile, so I maybe off on the amount of times you must do it, but at the cave nearest to your starting point, if you loot the last chest in the cave 13 or 15 times in a row it gives you a belt. I cannot remember the name of it though.
The cave that has no enemies and Erdrick's tablet in it?

I'm actually shocked that I've never seen the skip to the princess name secret on any of these. Put your name to JORLAN and you start off as having beaten the Green Dragon.

Can someone please tell me what the fuck luck does in DQ3. In my experience it doesn't effect ailment success. I'm so confused :(
I'm afraid I can't help you there. I haven't played 3.
I always used my real name for a 38 score... The best actual name you can have though (ignoring case) is LuKe for 57. Though that's not accounting for the additional maths in which case my usual name is better at 38.
what do you mean by score? Your name affects your strength, vitality, HP, and MP, right?
@@turnbasedmemories According to your video that seems to be the case. Score (in this case) = the first 4 letters added together w/o the division by 16.

@@turnbasedmemories I never knew your name influenced your stats before your video. My RL name has many variations so I might have used as few as 3 letters. I still have my original DW 1-4 games (with original boxes and guides) though I suspect the batteries are long dead... Anyway, the name I most likely used came out to 38 or 2.375 after the math is done.

Dude plz help me with something. My friend always tells me when I was little I sold his Sunstone in Dragon Warrior which messed his character up. Is this even possible? Can you sell the Sunstone?
Hmm. I'll look into it. That would be bad if you could. Hahaha.
Is it even possible to kill the metal slime before it runs away?
Yeah. It's pretty unlikely early game though. I forgot what the chances are, but there is a set percentage for it to run away each turn so you just need to get lucky or do excellent move.

@@turnbasedmemories Oh crap, forgot! The first one is that all the sound effects for DQ1 were produced single-handedly by the talented Michael Winslow, whom you may know from Police Academy. The "Man of 10,000 Sound Effects".
The 2nd one is the original avatar constantly facing the player was an idea inspired by Mel Gibson movies in the 1980s, particularly Mad Max. He was often facing the camera.

Totally haven't. I've been working on a MASSIVE video. Massive in terms of the amount of research. I actually have a crazy huge list of all the secrets for FF6 prepared. So I could do that one next. But I just want to finish this long-ass video essay I got in the works. And I got kids and a job and all that slowing me down. Sorry to keep you waiting.
