Update: In my case, the decorative chrome cover was stuck fast to the brass part, and they came off together (to my surprise). I found lots of hard water corrosion. Soaked the stuck parts in white vinegar for 15 minutes, put on rubber gloves for more traction, and they unscrewed perfectly. Again, thanks for the video!

Be sure to let people know Delta will send a new cartridge free of charge. Just take a picture of the faucet from under the sink showing the tag with the model number on it and contact Delta online.

No mention of the little black O ring below the brass holder that deteriorated when I replace the old cartridge while waiting for the new cartridge to arrive. Water everywhere. Off to the hardware store again to see if I can get that delicate O ring.
Contact Delta. They will probably send you a new one, free of charge.
What to do if the cap and the brass part comes out at the same time?

On my single stem Delta, it limits the receiving flow to one inlet (the cold side). I believe this would be used in a public setting, like a bathroom, where the temperature is mixed/preset somewhere before the faucet. This would give you a simple on/off lever.
How hot your hot gets. I.e. 100% hot water when swing left, or something less for example 50% (so the hottest it would get is lukewarm)
Can't get the bonnet nut off in order to replace my cartridge. Too much corrosion.
Nut doesn't want to come off. I'm stripping the shit out of the small wrench grip

If you have proof of purchase you should be covered. Contact Delta customer service by phone or through their website and provide the model information and they should help you out. I sent photos of the faucet to assist the customer service rep with identifying the correct part. I am awaiting receipt of a valve to replace the one in our kitchen faucet. Looks like a quick and straightforward job.
