It's a great movie and it's disappointing how many people just kind of write off as a kids movie. Also you should watch the commentary by the Director (Art director?) where they talk about the use of colour in creating the feel of the scenes and communicating the emotional state of the characters. It's too bad Kung Fu Panda 2 just shits all over the message of the first movie by being specifically about how Po was the chosen one all along.
Kung Fu Panda is probably one of my favorite animated movie trilogies ever. No one could have done it better than DreamWorks. Jack Black as Po is just nothing short of Awesome.
They say How To Train Your Dragon was the best trilogy... but Kung Fu Panda is on another level. The characters, storytelling, visuals, action and Hans Zimmer's gorgeous score make these films so adoring to watch. Very funny and action packed but also so rich with mature themes and impactful moments.
The second one has literally one of the only moment in animated movies history when i can say : Damn that's fucking BADASS ! When Po stand on a roof and when he's face to face against Shen's armada. Heck they made a freaking peacock : threatening with an edgy design. Also that godlike music; i'm literally melting when i'm listening to it
About the whole dragons being used sparingly thing: it actually is used sparingly in the movie. The only place that's filled with dragons is just the Jade temple. And even then it's only a few parts of the temple. Specifically the parts related to the DRAGON warrior or DRAGON scroll which of course would have a lot of dragon depictions. The rest of the movie has little to no dragons.
The duality of Ranton, on the one hand making a very educational straight forward video about Kong fu panda. And on the other, his normal videos that remind me I have ADHD in the first 5 seconds of the video.
I wonder how many people stumble upon very cool, calm Rantoni videos like these and go through the normal videos just to either get very disturbed or very hooked. Another banger
I'll be honest, I am one of those people. I came across Ranton via his Shaolin videos. Naturally, I wanted to see more what he had to say, and while his reviews are occasionally funny and all have ENORMOUS effort put into them, they are not for me. I'm not one of those people who will dismiss them as "garbage" because I don't like them. It's just not a style that really resonates with me. It's too random, too chaotic. As someone in their 40s with ADHD and Autism, the pure, unbridled chaos of his reviews are like sandpaper on my brain. That said, I still watch them sometimes because if you filter out the "nonsense" (so to speak), the content, what he has to say, is well thought out, well worded and valuable because even if we might disagree on a game specifically, his insights are valuable.
I think the point with Po’s style is that it is supposed to be unique. It is supposed to represent him. He uses his body to his advantage, the environment, and his opponents power against themselves. It’s derived from his fathers teaching that there is no secret ingredient. It is just you. Even shift tailored his teaching for Po in particular because he isn’t like every student he’s ever taught.
Aye. Which is probably why there isn't a comparison to Bear Style. Literally no one can be Po better then Po. He doesn't try to brutalise his opponents with incredible athleticism or speed, but rather takes his incredible endurance to take whatever life can throw at him and roll with it. He literally rolls down a mountain and use's his immense robustness and round shape to shrug all the damage off. It also speaks strongly to his character as despite the harshness of his training and the ridicule he faces from the 5 and his master, he continues to endure and be genuine in his love for martial arts.
This movie was so epic, I've watched more times then I can count cuz it never gets boring for me. But damn how haven't you watched this before, I was 8 years old when I first watched it

My favorite thing about Kung Fu Panda is that when I watch the first one, I have to watch the next two. The quality does not drop. I just want to mention something about the part with super powers and technique. Most of the people get too excited too easy and it 's not that very few believe in "magic techniques". When I was serving in the army, in the first days (let 's say something like bootcamp) there was a person that admitted he was practcing a martial art (I don 't remember the name). He told us that he could without much power, punch someone at the chest, and he will feel it in all of his body, while pushing him back. One person wanted to taste this punch and he said that it was true. And suddenly, the whole military base wanted to get punched. Of course I tried it as well, and somehow he made my whole body feel so smooth and felt that I lost control during that second of the punch. As I said people will always get excited with stuff like that. Poor guy though, he had to punch 400 people that day. Greetings from Hellas.
It's funny because Kung Fu Panda 2 precisely demystifies the image of Kung-Fu. So I imagine you're going to enjoy the second film in more than one aspect of the plot. On the other hand, the 3rd film embraces even more all the culture around Kung Fu and Chinese mythology.
Ok, time to watch the trilogy again. Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon are beautifully realized franchise. DreamWorks can truly put art in what they're doing.

Love the martial arts content! Keep it up Ranton. How’s karate going?
I watched a video about the impact kung fu panda had on China specifically I think even tho it's not technically accurate in some ways it's a simple story about a foreign guy who is in love with the culture and he wants to show that one of the responses to the movie was eye opening "why can't we do that" referring to showing love and appreciation to the culture of kung-fu

The bit about cooking also being a path to enlightenment reminds of the 1990 samurai movie Ronin-Gai, since it has a similar scene where the ronin character "Bull" encounters a noodle salesman who is former samurai. He learns the noodle salesman discovered a passion for making noodles as the world began to push the samurai caste to the fringe, and the noodle seller specifically says that he found new meaning by committing his fighting spirit to cooking instead of killing. Bull is dubious at first, he thinks the samurai gave up something important, but then he eats the noodles and they are the best he has ever eaten. It changes his whole perspective on life and impending death, declaring them 'samurai noodles.' Love that scene.
This movie is special to me because I could relate to Po so much when he couldn't get in to watch the furious 5. I was 7 at the time and I had traveled so far to get to the stadium with my parents just to realize our tickets weren't valid or something. And because we didn't have a lot of money, all I got from that trip was the red Chinese Olympics mascot as a plushie. I vividly remember there being 5 other mascot characters that matched the Olympics colors.
I will always love the Kung Fu Panda series as it's what got me into Chinese culture and Martial Arts as a kid and that's stuck with me ever since, plus it also has an amazing voice cast
You should definitely check out the sequels, havent seen the third one but the second one for sure is even better than the first, and ive heard nothing but good things about 3
I’m happy that the universe is following me in my newfound resurgence in interest in kung fu panda. I wanna watch it again because the music makes me cry
This isn't a "bear style" per say, but Yin Style Baguazhang, which has eight animal systems, has a "bear system" within it. So there is, at least to my knowledge, a precedent for bear based animal systems. Of course I doubt Kung Fu Panda based Po's fighting style on Bear style, but they may have had similar inspirations. And like you said, there may have been plenty of other bear systems invented in the north or the south, though I'd suspect they'd be a pretty recent invention.
Haha... you nailed all the feelings in Po's story! The setting and characters are just splendid :P Yep, kungfu + Panda really means a lot more. Yea, you further pinpointed the less obvious. Thanks pal.
Thanks for taking the time to watch it after so many requests! Would love if you could watch the rest of the trilogy, because I'm curious on your thoughts and perspective on the others, too.
Kung Fu Panda is my favourite 'modern' animation, and all of its movies are fantastic. I can cry my eyes out with the score and the scenes and the lessons etc. It's just all in all something I would rewatch anytime
The pressure point stuff definitely came from Wuxia novels, where the writers referenced acupuncture and turned it into some kind of weakspot combat system. Like how they also turned Qi into shooting beams and explosions.
Here's hoping that you make another video on Kung Fu Panda 2, it has so many great lessons and lines about finding peace after trauma and accepting the pain it's caused you.
so many little thing's to the movie that i didnt realise had the meaning that they did, i knew it had deeper meanings but not like this, have a massive new appreciation for the movie ❤️
This is a great analysis, thanks for your insight! I'm still amazed this movie was pulled off so well, it's easy to imagine how wrong it could have gone. I'm glad they took the risk and made this gem.
Now that you’ve watched the first one, please watch the sequels and make a review on them as well! One of the few franchises where the quality does not drop with each sequel.❤
Two styles that use bear style that I'm aware of are xinyiliuhequan and bajiquan. Bear style mainly strikes with whole body structure down lines of attack. Think bum rushing someone and throwing your shoulder or headbutting them after your body and it's momentum crashes into your opponents guard.
This is so good, Ranton. I love Kung Fu Panda and getting to see and learn about it in a different light is so educational. Well done and hopefully we get more.
Very nice video :) I would like to add some interesting info to the topic of pressure points 5:52 . I agree that pressure points are no secret kung fu technique to magically put an enemie to sleep, but there is something called "Dim Mak" or "Dianmai". These 108 nerve-points create a negative stimulation when pressed or punched and can be used to have additional control when grabbing an enemy or even temporarily paralyze some parts of the body with precise punctual punches. It's another question if it would be very effective in a real fight, but that's not always what kung fu is about
The first two films are legit great martial arts movies and I think the title combined with being animated causes ppl to overlook them (lets be honest, here in the west animated films, even heavily praised ones, get viewed differently from live action films) I recall the tv show being okay.
I watched this trilogy countless times. It was also the trigger for me to start learning Kung Fu. Those were the best years of my life and I'll be forever grateful for that movie and to my Sifu. 🥺
I don't remember if he's watched it, but an analysis of the Marital Arts of Bending in Avatar: The Last Airbender would be cool, since all the bending styles are based on various real martial arts
My theory is that Po at the end of the first movie is doing some sort of drunk fu Like you see how he kinda flows with the punches, stumbling into ripostes and stuff
This movie to me is among my top 10 greatest films of all time. This movie was what inspired me to pursue a career in art and animation and I am thankful for it.
You mean you watched the most epic and historically accurate piece of art about Kung fu ONLY in 2023?!?!?! What did they you teach at Shaolin? It should have been a separate discipline there.
I've had the pleasure of training the Bear (Gen) System of Yin Style Baguazhang for many years now. It was just conditioning for me, but it strengthened my back, prepared my body for sitting meditation, & gave me back my desire to train deeply. I appreciated how its essence was reflected through Kung Fu Panda at the time, and I still do now.
I used to love this movie when i was little but it doesn't have the same effect on me anymore tbh. I don't like the idea of being destined to be great while others (Tigress, Monkey, Mantis, etc) have worked for years or even decades to perfect their skills. Don't get me wrong, i love that Po works on himself and grows in more than just strength. The fight scenes and characters are amazing as well. I'm just not a fan of destiny, fate, prophecies or devine intervention guiding you to greatness.
Did t he say that it was hard work that let you overcome the odds and that it was only you who could make it happen, which was the point of the mirror on the scroll, and his reflection in the water?
@@Scissors69 Did you read all of my comment or just the first two sentences? I said that i like how Po works on himself and grows in more than just strength. But that doesn't change the fact that he was selected for that prestigious title before he even trained. And if i remember it correctly, the training he received was only a couple of weeks at most. 5 trained fighters combined failed to do what a random guy did alone, after receiving minimal training. Showing the results of self improvement and hard work is always positive message but not everyone's hard work paid off in this movie.
I think the only way to beat the leopard that demolished everyone that worked decades to perfect their skills, is a little bit of training and a whole lot of "destined to be great".
@@bonesaw7468 And Tai Lung was the representation of becoming the greatest warrior through hard work and determination, so at least you got someone to look up to.
From what I saw in kung fu panda I always thought that Po was supposed to do Dragon style or something similar to wushu since ya know- he is the DRAGON Warrior but in hindsight is probably something different. Bear style however kinda makes sense as the bear style i have been taught and seen from others uses alot of throwing, slamming and full bodied usage for powerful strikes. Great Video though Ranton and Love your insight
This movie is one of my all-time favorites. I love the scene of Oogway becoming one with nature and flying away in the form of peach blossom petals, I cri everytiem.
I remember watching this movie when I was younger, I just found it funny and exciting. But as I grew older and started to do martial arts myself I fell more in love with this movie so much more.
Very good coverage. The only other aspect of pressure points that i think are viable, are also strikes to muscle groups... ie. the dead leg effect from a powerful strike to the upper or lower leg. When the tissue is compressed against the bone it can create a contusion that can effect the nerves and muscles in the area alike making it not only feel painful or uncomfertable but also effectively numb and unable to take weight. If that makes sense, hopefully I'm explaining it well enough lol. It's essentially like "charley horse punch" you may ha e experienced on the playground as a kid. It causes both bruising and cramping and can feel "dead" or jelly like.
Unrelated but man I hope you get to participate in the ultimate self defence challenge, it will be amazing to see how someone how actually trained at the temple approaches these different situations ✌️ plus seeing you and Jesse spar will be pretty cool to. Like sensai seth cool

I vividly remember there being 5 other mascot characters that matched the Olympics colors.
I will always love the Kung Fu Panda series as it's what got me into Chinese culture and Martial Arts as a kid and that's stuck with me ever since, plus it also has an amazing voice cast
You should definitely check out the sequels, havent seen the third one but the second one for sure is even better than the first, and ive heard nothing but good things about 3
Maybe you should see 3 soon especially since 4 is coming in less than a year.
Past is history , Future is mystery but today is a gift , that's why it call present .
Kung Fu Panda is my favourite 'modern' animation, and all of its movies are fantastic. I can cry my eyes out with the score and the scenes and the lessons etc. It's just all in all something I would rewatch anytime
love these movie break downs! can’t wait for more
I mean this unironically when I say I think Kungfu Panda is one of, if not THE best trilogy ever.
The pressure point stuff definitely came from Wuxia novels, where the writers referenced acupuncture and turned it into some kind of weakspot combat system. Like how they also turned Qi into shooting beams and explosions.
If you watched the first Kung Fu Panda you need to watch the rest of the trilogy, its one of the best if the best animated trilogy ever made.
Here's hoping that you make another video on Kung Fu Panda 2, it has so many great lessons and lines about finding peace after trauma and accepting the pain it's caused you.
The Drunken master has the most effective style I've ever seen in any kung fu movie tho :=)
Definitely got to watch all three dude. All three of them are beautifully done movies.
so many little thing's to the movie that i didnt realise had the meaning that they did, i knew it had deeper meanings but not like this, have a massive new appreciation for the movie ❤️
As an anime enjoyer, i remember seeing this in the theaters and was blown away in that tailong escape scene… its like anime/manga shots but not!
Aside from Tenacious D, Kung Fu Panda might be Jack Black’s best movie
Tenacious D? Lol
He was great in King Kong
Nacho Libre homie
School of Rock is another top tier.
I love Kung Fu Panda it's what made me so interested in China and Martial Arts
10:03
Oh that one. I though you meant the og
"Karate here [points at head]
Karate here [ points at heart]
Karate never here [points at belt] "
It's another question if it would be very effective in a real fight, but that's not always what kung fu is about
I'm actually surprised that that you hadn't already seen this. Definitely one of my favorite movies and a contender for my top favorite soundtracks.
The first two films are legit great martial arts movies and I think the title combined with being animated causes ppl to overlook them (lets be honest, here in the west animated films, even heavily praised ones, get viewed differently from live action films) I recall the tv show being okay.
I laughed at the Wushi Fingerhold because finger joint breaking techniques are so powerful and hard to defend against.
My favorite part was when the panda said "It's Panda time" and then Panda'd all over Tai Lung
8:44 - Dang that part hits way more than i remember
I watched this trilogy countless times. It was also the trigger for me to start learning Kung Fu. Those were the best years of my life and I'll be forever grateful for that movie and to my Sifu. 🥺
We NEED more movie reviews from Rantoni Megalodoni
I don't remember if he's watched it, but an analysis of the Marital Arts of Bending in Avatar: The Last Airbender would be cool, since all the bending styles are based on various real martial arts
Yes ♥️
THE SERIES, right?😊
@@Holocoasterr What else? There is no Avatar Movie in Ba Sing Se.
My theory is that Po at the end of the first movie is doing some sort of drunk fu
Like you see how he kinda flows with the punches, stumbling into ripostes and stuff
This movie to me is among my top 10 greatest films of all time. This movie was what inspired me to pursue a career in art and animation and I am thankful for it.
Have you considered doing one of these review type videos for Shaolin soccer or kung fu hustle?
You mean you watched the most epic and historically accurate piece of art about Kung fu ONLY in 2023?!?!?! What did they you teach at Shaolin? It should have been a separate discipline there.
I've had the pleasure of training the Bear (Gen) System of Yin Style Baguazhang for many years now. It was just conditioning for me, but it strengthened my back, prepared my body for sitting meditation, & gave me back my desire to train deeply. I appreciated how its essence was reflected through Kung Fu Panda at the time, and I still do now.
Your Chinese (well...half Chinese), and you haven't seen Kung Fu Panda!? I think your tears of kingdom review got the title correct then 😂.
Good video. Also looking forward to seeing you in season 2 of Ultimate Self Defense Championship
Funny
I feel like this was the most chilled ranton video ever
funny!!
Kung Fu Panda has no bad movies or shows.
@@Scissors69 And like i said, i'm just not a fan of destiny, prophecies and stuff like that as a plot device.
I think the only way to beat the leopard that demolished everyone that worked decades to perfect their skills, is a little bit of training and a whole lot of "destined to be great".
@@bonesaw7468 And Tai Lung was the representation of becoming the greatest warrior through hard work and determination, so at least you got someone to look up to.
my first view of kung fu was an old bruce lee movie, i cant remember the name now but i still remember the huge ice locks
Damn I’m surprised it took you this long, but glad you got along to it. Please do a video about 2 and 3 after this!!
RUclips is so vast, I click a random video with a chinese monk in it and like 2 seconds into it I'm like "wait, that accent, that's a German brother"
This video means a lot because when I was a kid I used to watch this movie every day and the message hit me deep
Ranton, do more videos. You're my spirit animal I need more content from you, please :D
Hey Ranton super cool thanks to saying hi this morning. Now a follower lol thanks to Holley 😁
5:56, Of course the mystical art of pressure point Gung-Fu exists! Haven't you seen Ty Lee in Avatar, the last Airbender? 😜😜😜
