How to Apply a Driveway Sealer - Sealing a Driveway
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 3 дек 2024
- I show how to apply a driveway sealer. I am using the Henry 532 asphalt resurfacer. This product has a 7 year warranty. I like the rubberized gel formula, it goes on easy and you only need one coat.
#sealingdriveway #drivewaysealer
You want the temperature to be above 50 degrees. You don't want rain in the forecast for 48 hours and you don't want to drive on the product for 48 hours.
Hose down the driveway with a good cleaner and pull any weeds. Fill all large cracks with a crack sealer. Fill any holes with a pothole patch. Let any patches fully cure before you apply the sealer.
With the Henry 532, use the brush side of a driveway applicator to work the sealer into 4 foot by 4 foot sections. Work in 2 directions to get the product into any cracks and pits in the driveway. Apply one thin coat.

You gotta love a guy who seals his driveway in white sneakers. Thumbs up.
I love the way how quick he provides the most important information. Excellent job! Thanks!
Thanks. Here is another video ruclips.net/video/PXW335vZMdc/видео.html
Yes! Well done! Gives us beginners the info and good products to buy! Just need to know what is the best crack sealer and what about an indentation, not a pothole.
White shoes are a bold choice for this project. That's confidence baby!
This is like construction ASMR, very relaxing.
Mentioning ASMR 8 years ago, you were ahead of your time.
Thanks for this video and boosting up my confidence for DIY driveway sealant.
Just resealed my Asphalt Driveway with the Henry 4 Year Product, but followed all recommendations from this Video. A few points I would highlight for best results: Definitely fill cracks/pot holes as instructed in video, and be sure to clean as instructed. I would highly recommend flipping the buckets as he mentioned, but *also* would Highly Recommend using a corded Power Drill with a Stirring Bit. Even with a Drill, the "top sludge" does not move for a minute under stirring. After about a minute, you see the solid and liquid finally mix. I mixed shy of 5 minutes after seeing a good vortex for 30+ seconds and the color looking uniform. We did follow his method of combining buckets and that helped with keeping the color consistent. I would also recommend "pulling" in the same direction for the duration of the project. If you move the material in multiple directions, it will show (it's minimally noticeable). Thanks for the advice!
You're welcome.

Some excellent points here. I used the bulk version and pick it up using 55 gallon drums - this version comes concentrated so you mix water with it to obtain the correct consistency to brush it onto the asphalt.

I used to do this for a summer job! I got really fast at it. With a buddy, we would do 12 driveways a day.
Pro tip: carry a spray bottle on a holster and you can spray away any unwanted splashes on the house.
You kicked arse, i did it for a summer. Another guy and i would do about 5 a day give or take depending on size.

This is the kind of stuff that Dad shoes are made for!
I like the white shoes with speckled sealant look
Can't remember last time I seen those converse shoes but it had to be pre-1995. I appreciate the instruction however decided to go stained concrete and over the top of that with 10+ coats of non-yellowing sealer. It just seems to show more depth and last longer in the Minnesota winters. Next I may underlay with wood-grain panels and apply sealer coats for a more unique affect. Great inspirational video.
I called a concrete guy who sent out a mass flyer but he said you can't do concrete over black top. Is that not right????
@@annenelso Most only know 1 way to skin a cat and have never tried it. Your asphalt is pre-settled, therefore, grind the surface, prep, forms, rebar, pour. Don't let someone tell you, you need to pay to rip out your pre-settled base ever again..

Thanks, I would say one can use the crack filler stuff first if you want to get very technical.
look at that old milwaukee drill i still have mine since about 1986 or so looks like ill be on this stuff for a while looking at 25 buckets to lay out ,maybe i should set up the airless graco mark 5 and have at it
Water based is the way to go. Especially if you have pets, children, allergies, or care about your neighbors.. Many jurisdictions only allow water based. Most interior and exterior paints are now latex/water based.
The two coat recommendations is to fill in the pours and crevices. It's not meaning to actually go over it twice. What I do is push ahead a pile back and forth. Then I pull what I call the finish pass.
Yep. That's my method. Just finished 2 hours ago. Idk why I'm watching this video. Anyway, looks great.
Amazing video thank you from a new home owner

I had a landscape business and did hundreds of driveways all by hand. I found these cheap combo brushes with a squeegee useless and the finished product looks amateur. I went to an industrial supply store and bought a nice squeegee for doing windows and only used that to apply the rubberized sealer. Do it just like you did with the brush, but only use the squeegee to it rides flat and leaves additional sealer in the little dips and holes and thinner where the asphalt is smooth. The nice soft rubber squeegee left an excellent finish with no brush marks or overlaps.
firewoodguru Thanks for the tips.
I should add when it's hot, it always worked best to lightly wet down the driveway ahead of sealing with water based sealer. Oil based sealer is not recommended at all. Do not wet down the driveway ahead of time and expect it to be slippery when it rains and snows. Oil based sealer is shiny and once applied, you can only use oil based, you can't ever use water based afterward because it will not adhere. Also, when your driveway is steep or you want extra traction for the winter, you can add clean sand to the mix. It works really well and can add tremendous safety especially when walking on the driveway to get the mail etc. Also, many times the blacktoppers told the homeowners to wait a year before applying sealer, but you can apply sealer to new blacktop as soon as water stops beading up on it. It's best to seal it before the first winter if you can. Regardless of what the can states, two coats are always best for a nice smooth finish and to allow the sealer to fill smaller cracks to keep water out. Water will get into the cracks, then freeze and make a mess out of your asphalt.
Mm
You suck...use a 3' squeegie
firewoodguru after your done with your squeegee, do you have a good way of cleaning it so you could use it again?
Get buckets with same batch code for color match. Use squeegee to spread them 1.25" nap roller to even out and pull excess down as you go....if you have a rough textured asphalt. If not be prepared to use at least double the product. Keep driveway misted wet as you got...helps spread and prevents dry edge. Mix for 5 mins...if using a stick or that small mixer bit maybe. Get a proper grout mixer and mix about 30 seconds.
Yes, they are now waterproof.
Defensive basketball shuffle when pouring is on point.
Ha, I need to edit better.

Just a tip . Try to avoid that water base sealer. Go for the oil base. The finished result looks way better , and any standing water that would normally puddle in your driveway, would shed of more easily. Other than that good looking job

I mix 1/2 gallon of blackjack roof & foundation sealer to 5 gallons of blackjack 300 driveway sealer. It gets a better bond this way & self-heals when the driveway gets hot in the summer. The rubberized kind doesn't heal itself. Only drawback, driveway takes twice as long to cure before parking on it. Have to mix a day in advance for the 2 sealants to break down. May need a pint of denatured alcohol to help with mixing. Otherwise, doesn't blend well.
I don’t know why I’m watching this, I don’t own a house or a driveway
hahahaha
RULE No. 1: NEVER apply driveway sealer wearing anything OTHER than your cleanest, newest white sneakers. Absolute must. RULE No. 2: NEVER edge your driveway BEFORE applying sealer.
Your kinda hard on the guy. I usually seal my drive on a minimum 90° day, wearing flip flops and shorts. No lie.
@@MandrakeRoots You won't get proper adhesion unless it's at least 100° in the shade, and preferably during a downpour.
@@c.a.g.3130 Note also, when edging the drive leave all grass and debris on drive, it acts as a reinforcement for sealant when cured. I do agree hot, humid and a strong chance of rain is best conditions.

Not filling small indentations, as you are push broom. I used squeegee and obtained better finish.
That's because brushing is for a textured finish as opposed to a smooth finish with a squeegee
Should still be using a horsehair bristled brush, if any at all..

I'll be doing this soon enough! So 7 year warranty, how often do you actually do your driveway with this stuff? Do you do it yearly or every other year or really every 7 years?
Hi, it depends on your location, climate and the formula you are using. When I spoke to a few companies, they recommended putting a thin seal coat on your driveway based on 1/2 of the warranty time. How well does the henry work and how long does it last
Hi, it holds up well. Recoating depends on the warranty. Many companies recommend recoating after about 1/2 the length of the warranty. So for a 7 year warranty, you would recoat after about 4 years depending on how much use the driveway gets and wear from your climate.
