    I made many mistakes in the making of this video, but I'm someone who believes that if you wait for circumstances to be ideal, you will be waiting until your death! So I made peace with my decision and uploaded it anyway. Though a terrible video as far a editing and quality is concerned, I hope you still enjoyed it and learned something! -At 1:52 that clip wasn't supposed to be there... oops
    -Like I put in the beginning disclaimer, I am not responsible for any mistakes you might make if you attempt this yourself. It's not easy work and so much trial & error went into me getting this good at it.
    -People always ask how long it lasts, but the answer depends on a hundred variables. I just say, it wont deteriorate all at once; it will deteriorate slowly over the course of 2 to 5 years, but it might not be ugly enough to recoat until about 8 to 10 years.
    -In the video, I actually watered-down the primer coat more than I usually do. Don't water it down quite as much as you see me doing in this video. I'd say roughly 70% epoxy, 30% water is just fine.

    What if…
    You ground the concrete surface with a diamond concrete grinding wheel?.
    THEN? coat it.
    & I “get” that epoxy yellows when exposed to UV sunlight however-
    What if…
    You broadcast a grey or speckled vinyl flake to provide a little bit of distracting texture?.
    Also? There is acid-etch & perhaps even a stain that might work as a base.

    I’ll need to do this over a period of days - even weeks, depending on the weather and other commitments. And because the driveway is in constant use, I’ll have to do one side and let it completely cure before doing the other side. Do you see any problems with this approach?

    Question: can this process be used on a concrete drive that are slabs separated by pressure treated 2x4s? Can the 2x4s be covered. On ours they put concrete nails throughout the boards. Very difficult to remove.

    What mortar do you use?

  • @paulanomoly7977
    @paulanomoly7977 8 месяцев назад +2

    The big chunks of mortar will never hold up over time. It will shrink then crack then start popping off.

    • @claybannermasonry
      @claybannermasonry  8 месяцев назад +12

      That's only the case if you use the wrong mortar. Plus, covering crack repairs with epoxy greatly prevents the new mortar from popping out. My crack filling work has handled harsh winters and never bursted out.

      No problem! I'm happy to help! :)
      I work indoors during the winter. Sometimes simple interior painting, but also indoor plaster. If I am outdoors during the winter, it's just slower work. Other than that, more time indoors means more dedication to the white collar/book-keeping aspects of business as well as the RUclips channel.

    Where I live, a concrete with settling cracks (as you show in this video) would re-crack just few weeks after resurfacing. So now i am upfront with customers and tell them to keep into account the possibility of seeing again this cracks, but smaller than they where before.

    Nothing replaces a base or primer coat. For any type of this work outside or inside. Good job. Using Epoxy is a little bit overkill, but the stuff is durable.
