BEFORE YOU COMMENT... Just to be clear, when I said that "You saved yourself thousands of dollars" I am not talking about my little slab of concrete. I'm talking about the typical driveway or porch project ( large or small ) that can cost $5,000-$10,000 if you hire a professional to rip up, haul away and re-pour. Yes, I could have completely replaced this particular slab for about $30 but the point of this video is to demonstrated to my viewers how to make this type of repair and give them more options. This is a great way to save MONEY, TIME and HASSLE if traditional methods are not an option.
I have a cracked cement drive way in Southern New England. We get ice and snow . Would this repair hold up the weather and weight ? What about snow plows? Thanks .
It is easy for you. But it might be hard for me. I will try it. I hit your subscribe.
Tell me about it. Just had my drive done in concrete. 25' wide x 277' long. = $48,800.00 bucks!
How about winter? What is your geographic location? If you are in California Elmer's Glue will work.
@@Torq-wy2cr I need to do the same except I can't bare the thought of seeing the first crack after I drop 50k on the job. Eeeek
As a single mom with a new home just learning all these new things this is the best video I came across it’s simple straight to the point thank you
I just saw this comment! THANK YOU SO MUCH! Keep being an awesome amazing mom! ☺️
Ditto her comment. Exact same. THANK YOU
Hey Michael, in your video you stated that you hadn't found a stain that you haven't fallen in love with. Let me recommend one: It is made by Smith Paints; It is called Smith's Color Floor. It comes in array of colors and is designed for concrete. It comes in a one quart concentrated bottle an it is recommended to mix it 4: 1 with purified water. 1 qt. makes a gallon. This stain is polymer moified and is amazing. I have been using this stain for over 20 years. I don't know why it isn't more popular. Hope this helps, Lee.
Did you have to order from the company?
Thanks so much for the video! We save over $3000 by resurfacing our small front porch and sidewalk. Only cost us about $100 in supplies! Wish I could show you the before and after!
Tripped over your video today and now I have solutions to 2 home problems! Thank you! Also, your fire pit is beautiful! I love the new contrasting colors! Looking forward to checking out your other videos! Thanks again!! 😊
I love this demonstration on how to fix a broken slab as I have a very similar situation. As a single old woman I believe I can follow your instructions and fix it myself. Thank you for sharing this!
Followed your direction, patched up the curb in front of my house and my neighbor's house and it looks great. Cement All is no joke quick curing so folks, this guy is spot on. It cures quickly and I mean like in 10 minutes and you're going to be hard pressed to work it. I'm a design engineer and if I can do this, you can too. Will be reporting back this time next year. Thanks again for the video!
good point. I saw on the Rapid Set video you can add a packet of something call "set control" to give yourself an extra 15 minutes of working time.
@@johnabe4610 Hey there! Thanks for the tip. Didn't even know something like that existed. I have more work to do and will keep it in mind if I need to use it. Really, thanks a ton!
I use both of these materials all the time on concrete repair work.
Found this video today. Thank-you! I have asked concrete guys to recoat our garage apron that is repaired from cracks and they want to rip it out and redo it. I will try this...also have small crumbling spot on a sidewalk slab. This will definitely fix that!! Appreciate the help.
You are welcome! ☺️
Practical video! Thank you. I've worked with this product incorrectly in the past, and failed, your tips are critical...broom & squegee at the ready...as well as consistency of pancake in the mix... Much appreciated. Really great content on your channel overall...concise and entertaining.
0:50 oh my gyoddddddddd. this is EXACTLY what i need. you not only mentioned what to use as a patch but you SHOWED IT. and mentioned cure times. i'm gaming out my driveway RIGHT NOW, in my head as you speak. there's lots of cracks, weeds filling in, it's driving me crazy!!
I have a 50 yr. old concrete lake seawall in michigan that is just now starting to show the first signs of its age... this product looks exactly what I need...bonus for me: my son spent a summer doing concrete during college..
Whenever my sons gave me any pushback on doing jobs around the house I always would tell them, why do you think I had boys for?
They are grown men now and always ready to help but miss the days when they were growing up.
Hi Mike and everyone I was looking for a video on what would be the best concrete to use and it didn't take too long to dry and was easy to work with because I wanted to make a head stone for my Mom's grave and your videos popped up and Yes Yes Yes cement all is the best concrete I have ever seen in the whole life and Yes it's the Best I just Truly Love it and Thanks for all your help with everything GOD BLESS you and your family and friends and pets if you have any Bless you all for Today Always and Forever and Eternally Amen 💝💖🥰😘😍👍👍👍 Love your videos and definitely Love your little dance on your newly finished concrete platform Thanks again GOD BLESS 💝💝💝
Thank you so much for making it simple and easy for someone that doesn’t have any construction skills to use. I have several slabs of sidewalk that have cracks in it. The only thing that has pebbles and therefore it would only make it smooth. The rest will be different however I’m sure you can make a video how to bring that outafter your fireplace. Thank you again for helping a novice.🎉🎉😊😊
I like the Valspar lear coat Wet Look, on the concrete benches I make. I think Micheal should seal it up to keep it from fading. I think those front steps would cool with an acid stain and shiney coat.
excellent! I was trying to find a way to blend our new concrete ramp with a very old cracked concrete porch... this is perfect and looks so easy
How about a video on the durability of a material poured over an existing slab.
Or a 1 year f/u video (could be a Short) AND was it just for Foot traffic, or ok for a Driveway??
Drivewa. What does you common sense tell you? No Bueno.
The 2 year front porch wasn't good enough?
Why don't you make that video
How about you make a video of doing it the proper way? 😂🙄
That was a great video, thank you! I had no idea you could put back together a piece of concrete that easy. I also love your positive attitude and demeanor. The choice of music was great too!!
Great teaching style . Good music . Very informative . I came away learning a lot . Thank you . Rock On .
Hit it with that F150 again!!! We need to see how durable it is.
You know… I highly considered it but don’t know why I didn’t do it lol 😂 next video lol
@@MichaelBuilds You're the best!
Do it
@@MichaelBuilds😂😂
Gotta resurface my chimney cap. This is perfect for the job, except for getting everything up on the roof. Thanks!
Excellent video. Thinking of using Cement all to fill in a sunken section of mt sidewalk.
Thank you for this video. I'm half way through my project and would not have thought to try this if I hadn't come across this vid.
I think it would be stronger if the pieces were separated slightly and the cement-all applied within the cracks and closed up. Just applying on the surface will have little flowing into the cracks to have increase bonding.
He said you can sck it 😂
@@hostilesavage4299What does sck it mean?
That’s impressive, I love the finish.
Thank you so much!
That repair looks great! I'm going to try this on a few cracks I have in my back yard sidewalk, shed slab, and the slab I for my bbq grill and smoker.
My goodness I’m so glad I found this video. Thank you so much for sharing
I just had my patio done and it doesn't look good at all. I just spent $8,600 and can't hire another peofessional to repair it. After seeing your video, i think i will be able to reaurface it without breaking the bank. I'm 52 years old with a bad back, but i think i can do it. Thank you for this video. It acrually gave me hope.
Good looks brother Michael… we love the aesthetic of concrete. … so much so, that we designed an built a mid century industrial modern house with steel and concrete!
Very cool.. Will try that option on projects where budgets are tight
Hell yeah! That what these kinda projects are all about! 👍🏻
Michael, I watch every video you do and always learn from you! ....❤you, keep going!
Thank you SO MUCH!
Thanks for taking the time to create this video. Very helpful.
This video is awesome! I'm going to use this to seal and resurface my slabs.
Portland cement and glue that's all I use and it works amazing
Thank you brother. You just solved a major problem I’ve been thinking on for years.
Hey that was amazing. I would do it to my driveway but I afraid I will spend hours doing it and end up have to pay someone to do it for me. But I do love that you could save so much money but you can do it on your own.
Congrats on the sundial! I did not know about the importance of a concrete broom. Already did hundreds of bags of concrete, and tbh did not go so well. I had to tweak a number of times to get to acceptable quality. Mainly it's hard to screed large areas by oneself.
This was just the video I needed to learn how to fix my old concrete steps. Thanks! Edit
Can't wait for self healing concrete to come on the market!!!
Nice intro to a couple of products that might be useful. Late last fall, I poured a 10X11 slab, solo. My first pour of this size and the surface turned out a bit rough. I'll consider these products and techniques to prepare the slab for ceramic tile, after the roof is up. Thanks!!
Great explanation on how to use the products my concern would be in a year if it came back because that slab is cracked usually cracking comes from underneath meaning unsettled or not flat so just putting a surface over the top does not mean that it will still not by stepping up put pressure and Rec crack those areas again so that's my only concern I would have pulled it all out stomped and reflatting the thing and pour it a whole new slab since it was so small but cool now I know how to use it
My concern is that this slab cracked partly because of unequal support from the ground. What you've done is resurfacing. It hides the cracks but you still have several broken pieces underneath that may separate again if extreme weight is placed on the slab. It's no stronger. For a SMALL piece of concrete like this the "right" repair (IMO) is actually replacement (with remesh, rebar, chicken wire, etc for strength). However, the value of this video is to show that this technique would work well on much larger concrete with greater thickness that cracks - the weight and much larger surface area of something like a driveway will keep things in place and that is where your resurfacing approach shines. Thank you for making this video. Your statement in the pinned comment about the value of repair vs replacement is totally spot on.
He didn't make the video for your benefit Just another cobber trying to make an easy dollar. Your justified with your concern, and he might as well just paint it as use a product not intended for that purpose. 60 years in the trades and I know better!.
it cracked because he drove his truck over it, it wasn't fully cured, and it was a dry pour.
@@steveww07 Yea and no rebar either he's got soft hands for sure brother
I used that rapid set and decided I could do part of my side walk faster than the normal, so I mixed WAY more than I should have… needless to say I ended up with a great boat anchor bucket 😂
Awesome. Just awesome job!
Thanks for this video now i need to find new crete.
Fantastic instruction. Thank you! It came up great 😊
I’m a DIYer and this would work for me!
Well done Michael & that fire pit looks great after adding that colored cement! 👍👍
Thank you!
Thank you! I’ve been meaning to do that for a while haha
Good video. Don’t feed the trolls, your work wins on its own.
Love the channel and it came out great. I was recently contemplating doing this on a similar size slab, but when i did the math it was cheaper to just buy some 80 lb bags and start new. Don't know if you're sponsored but that product is pretty pricey.
I could however see it working on a larger slab, like your porch where it's not feasible to just replace the piece..
Btw, your school janitor 87 key chain is killing me 😆 🔑 🗝 🔐
This is so cool! I was considering using the NewCrete but opted not to and I'm glad I did, because I don't have the squeegee. Also, I love what you did with the fire pit. When I wanted to make my retaining driveway wall more uniform in color, old concrete, new concrete, I just added regular paint to a slurry of cement a painted the retaining wall. Looks good.
I'm more than a little skeptical that none of the cracks will 'telegraph' back through. If they do not, then this is a marvelous material.
I certainly looks nice, but when weight is applied as well as change of seasons, I will be interested to see how it held up.
Are y'all talkin boot this slab project or his porch?
The porch video was good too... it was in pretty bad shape and he showed it after two years at the end of this slab video...
Ohla! Nope, the patch work with Quickrete looked great alone. Love this! Like and Subscribed…
I can't thank you enough for showing how to fix things like cracks. I bought my home at age 19 & now at 67, I find myself too scared (old age pain) to try projects. . I see my home deteriorating my that i'm on disability , & its so upsetting not to be able to do things like i used to. I just started to worry i may have to sell, but go where? ‼️ HOWEVER, WATCHING YOUR VIDEO GAVE ME A BOOST OF CONFIDENCE. I just might be able to at least fix cracks?
AGAIN, GOD BLESS YOU ..... I WANT TO BE SURE YOU KNOW HOW MUCH YOU HELP ! 😊
Awesome video! Thank you! Always looking for great DIY videos😊
So you could add color to that.
Love it Great video
I have spalling in my driveway (I think it's from ice remover?) and dreaded having to replace it all - this should be the cure for it!
I used this product on a 14 X 32 patio, becareful when using multiple bags as I found out the color difference. It's best if you have help. 1 person mixing and another spreading. I did like the product.
Thanks Michael, good to know. Thanks for your demo. 😊
You just earned a new subscriber! Thank you so much
Beautiful job! I'm going to try it myself. Thanks for the idea.
Great job! I'm saving this for the spring
I love it thank you
Can you do a video using cement all, resurface a slab and put a stamped finish on it?
Thanks for the video, good information. I wasn't too sure what to do about cracks in my patio until now.
That's very cool 👍 im SUPER impressed !
Don't know how this popped into my video list but it just so happens that I have to touch up a cracked corner sidewalk before I can sell my home. Talk about perfect timing.
Thank you so much. You are the best. I will try em soon
Can I do this for my drive way? Thank you.
I must say I do love what you’ve done to the fire pit it looks awesome and very curative I must say. Almost forgot to mention the slab also looks great .
T
That was a dry poured slab??
Wow 🤩
Since it's fall in Montana, which means SNOW, I won't be able to do this now. But I have so many ideas for next spring. Thank you!
99% of the time I watch your videos on my TV so I can "like" but not comment. I just watched this on my TV but had to pull it up on my computer so I could leave a comment. Great video! And adding the color to your fire pit really made it POP, looks great! I like doing DIY projects as I would think many of your followers do as well, You should consider a Brag Board where your followers could post things they've made to share and inspire. Just a thought 👍
THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking the time!!! I actually do have an Instagram hash tag called #MichaelBuildsCommunity where viewers can post their projects 😊👍🏻
Love the fire pit!! I would have done 3 colors. Dark on left, light( half as dark, same color) on the right then medium color as solid circle band 😂❤
😊☺️😊☺️
Wow! Impressive. Great vid. Thanks
Can you drive on it
That's a small concrete pad to drive on.
But yes, you can use this to resurface a driveway
fantastic video
Thank you so much!
Liked your music .
I will try this process and product. Thank you
Excellent resurfing.
Well Done!!! Awesome information and beautifully produced.
I was just searching up “how to concrete over concrete” yesterday! Thanks for this!
That’s awesome! Glad I could help!
Excellent. Thanks, great content
It’s the like algorithm could here me in my garage complaining about this exact thing 🤔😂
After resurfacing the concrete, how long do you need to wait before staining it? Thank you for any info. ✌️
In the real world, I've only ever heard bad reviews for this product, so definitely let us know how it holds up as time goes by.
I can't belief this will not break in a short time
I can see using this in my driveway where the plumbing contractor cut a nice big hole to get to the main sewer line underneath. I now have a square patch that does not match the rest of the driveway.
I just can't imagine that the interface between the original sections will not crack over time.
Thanks for experimenting and posting using this method. I'm curious to know after a year later if the larger crack showed any signs how smaller hairline cracks?
With larger cracks like this, I would have done it a little differently.
First, use a higher PSI like CementAll. It has 9000 PSI compared to the 4000 of the Mortar mix.
Mix CementAll into a watery slurry the consistency of runny yogurt. Pour that into the crack about halfway high. Let it sit for a couple of hours, then mix another batch of CementAll with the consistency of a slushy and pour that up to about a 1/4" from the top of the crack and let that dry for 24hrs. If you can let that dry for 7 to 10 days, that is even better.
Finally use a product like Sika Crack Flex Textured self-leveling sealant to top it off. 👍🙂
Hello !
just the info i needed for a project , thanks so much for the share.
craig
Brilliant finish. Thanks for sharing. :-)
Michael, you've made repairing broken concrete quite easy in this video. Would you recommend this method to repairing a broken and chipped concrete stamped patio? Thanks.
I just used the cement all to fix my cracked sidewalk and it turned out great. I want to go over it with new Crete, but I want to repair the cracked driveway first. Will it last if I just fill the cracks with cement all, or should I cut a few inches on either side of the crack and pour cement all in to make one slab again? I’ve seen repairs done like that with regular cement, but I don’t know if I should do it that way. I hope I described this so you can understand me. 😂
It’s always better to open the cracks up a bit but that only usually with thin cracks. Otherwise you should be fine
Can’t wait to do this
Nice job!!
Can you stain it afterwards? If so, how long should you wait?
A week for water based stain. A month for oil based.
This video is brilliant - thank you!!!!! Our 2 car 24 foot square garage slab needs this kind of work as the concrete has broken up like the slab you fixed in the video but it is such a large area. Any suggestions on how to stage the repair for 2 car slab? Would such repair hold up under the weight of 2 medium sized vehicles? In any case, great video, great work, all the best from Canada 🇨🇦
I guess i didn't get where you told us the benefit of the NewCrete on top of the Cement all vs just Cement All in one pass (or two if there is a reason). Why was the second step done with a different product vs a slightly thicker Cement All or even all the Rapid Set brown mortar mix? Is it more forgiving? A more natural color (vs white), or something else?
Another great video Michael. Your really making your home really beautiful.
Haha I’m trying 😉☺️👍🏻
@@MichaelBuilds I know you really are. Still my favorite boyfriend. 😂
This stuff looks promising, would love to see a year after video to see how it holds up against freeze thaw cycles
Let me guess .... It will not hold a long time
