As a commercial driver I say dash cams are a good thing and I wouldnt fight it however if it was in my personal vehicle I would wire it to an upfitter switch and it gets shut off when I'm not working
Can you not just unplug when not working?
But understand this is not a dash cam this is an event recorder. It only recorders 10 seconds before and 10 seconds after an event. Such as hard breaking, fast acceleration, hitting a pothole hard will set it off and accidents. This is sent to the company to review. The ones I’m familiar with can be logged into at any given time and looked at real time.
As a professional driver dash cams are a great thing but since it goes to the company I'd unplug it while not working.
Even though it's for your company & insurance reasons, could you get that info that is being sent to them if something happens during your personal usage with the truck to send to your insurance company?
I run a fleet of 25 semi-trucks with keeptruckin for our eld provider. That box will most definitely pickup a night at the drag strip even if u unplug it. The next time u log in it will download/sync all driving events and sit in a queue until it’s assigned by the user or management.
Even if it's unplugged from the OBD port?
Gene Fugatt yes, the next time u plug it in it and u connect to it with your phone/tablet it will sync all driving events and ask u to accept them as yours or your dispatcher has to assign it to someone
@@d4sythe01 so I guess you would need to completely remove it from the truck. If it's sitting on a shelf there wouldn't be any data to upload.
and then never plug it in again
@@d4sythe01 so basically, once he plugs it in, it's going to download all driving events from since that truck was new?
Question, can you shut it off and only run it when you are on company time?
We don’t use dash camera, but we use a system called the “inthinc” it does use the hard braking, fast turning, watch ground clearance, fast acceleration etc... and it is linked with our electronic log books. BTW I work for a huge company in the oil field too
Do these ELD's come with internet service or do I have to buy internet service on the tablet?
My company has “drive cam” so camera facing out and camera facing in. I use the passenger side sunshade to block inside cam. And if we unplug it’s an automatic final write up. Next boo-boo your gone. But in Florida it’s a necessary thing!
Love dash cams,
I use too work for a company that installed a tablet like thing in some of their trucks. It had a camera that looked at the Driver & they caught drivers breaking company policy about smoking in company trucks.
Where can I buy one of the ELD AND DASH CAM SETUPS
I have a dashcam in every vehicle. Saved me a bunch of times.
I wouldn’t want work in my personal truck but want one in my own vehicle for me with audio. What would personal users suggest? Prefer multi cam setup with bookmark ability. I live in a city of messed up drivers lol. Also a hs student caught a guy keying his truck here with mirror cams.
Yes I use my own dashcam for (MY) personal use and as a professional trucker. It can save your butt but it can cut your throat if like in your case have to be seen by everybody! Yes for my own personal protection it's a great thing. Just an example right after I installed my dash cam system which I have 4 wireless cameras front, back, and left and right side first trip out I'm driving along 5 miles under posted speed limit a state cop passes me (now there's no one in front) just wide open road he cuts me off and brakechecks me! Well to say the least his butt was in big trouble! Yes I wouldn't be without one but for my personal use and protection!
If it’s inside facing it can be problematic. We could get in more trouble for not wearing a seat belt. If someone else is driving your truck and they do something they could blame it on you. They could say your distracted by being on your phone or answering a call. They could move to everything must be hands free.
Sp how does that legally work when its also your personal vehicle
you definitely gotta correct that "problem" with chick-fil-a😂 really great video, heard u say that and my daughters said WHAT did they do to this hard working HOTSHOT lol...... stay safe
If you pull back the weather stripping on your door frame where that cord was going down to your OBD2 port there’s a little pocket for the wire to fit down inside. That’s how I have my monitor ran and you can’t even see the wire except for where it plugs into the monitor on the windshield! Sucks about the dashcam, there goes any chance for having an EZLynk plugged In to your obd2 port.
Yep I run a dash cam in each of my cars and this is the best way to hide all those wires.
i actually like this channel he seems like a straight up guy keep up the good work brotha
Where did you get your ELD
who are you lease on with?
Just plug to power when you have a load and and off when on personal time
To the people asking about insurance. If your commercial vehicle is commercial in any capacity doesn’t matter when or how your using it, it has to have commercial insurance.
Also.
We need to figure out how to link up. I work out of the Waynesburg area and need your contact to see if you or your semi is available when loads come up ma dude
Hey Guy.I was looking into CCV and ran across a mechanic on you tube. Power stroke help.maybe something to look at. He is against them and explains. something to think on.
So... my tuner plugs into the obd like every other... and I use my tuner to monitor temps and boost and what not.. what would I do in this case?
You can get an OBD splitter but, depending on the tuner, it may not work.
Obd splitter
Bro what company you work for
It does record costantly in a loop. It sends the info if an accident happens. It can save your ass or screw you. But atleast it doesnt have driver faceing camera like some mega cariers do.
Hey this cams also record audio for your info, so anything you say in the privacy of your truck is recorded. At least thats how mine works on private van.
Is it all keep trucking dash cams record audio?
I run Thinkware dashcams in my personal vehicles. It saved my wife once with the insurance company. She stopped at a red light and was sitting there a few seconds, then got rearended. The lady driving the other vehicle claimed that my wife slammed on brakes when it was green. We both had the same insurance company, so they were trying to say partial fault on my wife. There wasn't a police report. We sent in the footage and they charged the other people for the accident. We got the red light on the front cam, and the other driver (on her phone) on the rear cam. Not sure how I feel about the footage being sent to your company though... Seems creepy.
National Grid has cameras looking at driver and the road for years
Invasion sucks, but saved my ass twice.
Dash cam has saved some guys at work before. We all have garmin dashcams in the tow trucks we have.
Totally different kind of cam
you should not have to run a camera on a personal vehicle but if you also use it for work you could switch it on to when your start the clock it comes on
We run them, their called Smart Drive. I can’t stand them. Records every hard turn, u-turns, hard brake and etc. Sends them straight to the company, they call you in to watch the video. If to many videos in a month, write up. 🤷🏾♂️
I hate them where I work one faces you and the road it goes off for every little bump that is just where it starts for you we can’t even eat while driving and for a while we couldn’t even drink have fun with it
I did hot shot trucking however mine was in a company pick up.company did not have Dash cams in the trucks but he did have a monitor that tracked my driving. I honestly thought I was doing just fine with my breaking acceleration etc. the owner sat me down one time to show me the graph and was upset with my driving. It was a little infuriating to feel like I had somebody sitting over my shoulder. I was very respectful of the company vehicle I did not agree with what it was charting
You SHOULD be able to have it unplugged whenever you’re NOT on the clock so to speak. Most likely they’ll say it has to remain plugged in and they won’t worry about anything while not on the clock. Yeeeeah right!
I'm a truck driver and I would have 2 vehicle, one for work and one for personal use, the ELD can save your life...
Pop that weatherstripping off and hide the wire. Easy job. I'm an Insurance broker and hear of many people saved from law suits bc of dash cam footage. I run one with a front and back camera on my truck for protection against frivolous law suits. With that said, I hate that it sends info to your company when this is your personal vehicle. Better unplug it before you rip some donuts haha!
Yeah like he said run it down the opposite side of your pillar once you pull that weather stripping down
Dash cams are good I have one which 1 faces the front windshield 1 in back window 1 faces the driver's side. It got me out of a jam a lady rolled back into my front bar braking acouple of led light she said I ran in to her , I told her its all on the dash cam she gave me cash to replace the lights and said sorry. It saved my ass.
Dont tell anyone you have a cam. Wait for her to make an official police report. She will be lying on an official document and perjure herself. Them can sue for more damages
I been trucking 10 yrs. Technology 🤦🏾♂️
I run a dash cam but not for some company just my personal use
I use my own dash cam. I have control of the recording.
You need to run your own dash cam coincident to theirs
Does anyone know how you purchase a $25 or $40 subscription to keeptruckin eld
To me as long as the dash cam looks at the driver I'm OK with not happy but ok
😎💪👌👍
I feel like dash cams attract bad drivers lol. But it should only be on while you're working and it does feel like invasion of privacy.
If you're not making a run on the clock then keep it unplugged. They can't make you keep it running while not working. If you drive like a dickhead off the clock and that thing keeps sending the recordings in, it may effect the companies insurance.
Who pays your insurance when you're using the truck for personal use?
N /A I see your point, but regardless who pays the insurance, liability can still fall on the leasing company. They just want to protect themselves from civil lawsuits and rid any drivers who are liabilities.
for what it records that is the stupidest thing i’ve ever heard. i would get it if it recorded everything like u had hoped
its a bad thing
Waste of time you you barely talked about anything
