Back in 1990 in the Cache la Poudre canyon in Colorado, my wife and I encountered a rapist who was a fugitive hiding in the woods. He made a threatening move toward my wife and I drew down on him. He retreated, we reported him to the Fort Collins Police and he was caught a couple of days later. Ever since then, I've carried. I haven't had any type of hostile encounter while hiking since, or before for that matter. Recently, I've been considering not carrying. A pistol is heavy, uncomfortable, awkward. It's one more thing to carry and maintain and account for and I'll probably never, ever need it. After seeing this, I'm packing every step of the way.
stick with your decision in your last sentence, "every step of the way" cause if you ever do need it or think you need it you'll wish you had it, better safe than sorry.

No this guy was fucking dumb. First thing to do would be to throw rocks
@@owen1913 with all do respect he made it out alive and besides that he did throw some rocks she was like Bruh 😤 😭😭

He looked hungry
She was pissed off because he went near her babies. Also, she detected an idiot filming in portrait.
@Jalen Upshaw Depends on what type of bullet. And where you put them.
You could also try arming yourself with bear spray, i have heard it is usually a good way to scare off wild predators.
stick with your decision in your last sentence, "every step of the way" cause if you ever do need it or think you need it you'll wish you had it, better safe than sorry.
From about the 30 second mark, I'm screaming at the monitor: "THROW A ROCK AT IT YOU IDIOT!!"
That would require kneeling down and taking your eye of that cat! Which is when Cats try and get close to you.
It might also cause the cougar to attack, in this situation it only seemed to approach him to keep him away from the cubs.
5:41 Mountain lion: Oh shit I left my Cubs by themselves
ThT was the craziesT SHIT I HAVe EVER SEEN SHE WALKED U WAY UP THAT Mountain a nightmare having a wild lion coming at u like that heart attack scary
When it was about to attack, I literally got goosebumps
Backing away saved his life but honestly it wasn't trying to kill him probably had cubs and was getting him away from them if she was gonna kill him he wouldn't have seen or heard anything until she was on top of him
the moment he saw the baby mountain lion at the start he should've known he was in trouble lol
I think it was just curious
"okay, this is when i fucking die"
This lion didn't want to hurt if she did she could have easily attacked. Shes stressed and scared and protecting her young. Wild life has really struggled to keep their land. Feel bad for man and lion.
Must have walked by a den. She was just trying to get him out of the red zone.
The way the lions front legs were spreading completely out when running 🤣
Clapping the ground lol
It’s so that once they get within reach they can grapple you in a bear hug while they tear into your neck.
That cats false charges are designed to get you to tur and run so it can take you down from behind, just as well you kept facing it although it may have been a shorter encounter if you had stood your ground as that signaled fear to the cat
She was trying to wear you down. Waiting for you to get tired and your adrenaline to subside. I have watched them do this to deer.
I would have been chucking rocks like Randy Johnson
That would've upset the lion even more and now you've got a fight with a cougar. This guy did everything right.
@@cali2468 they usually only go for human if they are starving, their babies are threatened (like in this video) or they are juveniles who don't know any better. I've been stalked countless times since I was 5, running around with my brother in the CO bush. My next door neighbors 9 yr old kid got mauled 2 summers back by a juvenile. Tough little kid, the cat had him by the head when dad came out and whooped on it. Scary animals, but they are lone predators and they know they can't get injured or else they wont be able to feed themselves. Thats why you should always fight back against cougar and that's why I wear 2 knives and carry a Glock when I go into the bush haha I respect them, so I am prepared for them.
Thing is as soon as you bend down cougar will jump at you cause your simultaneously making yourself smaller like prey and stopping movement giving the cat opportunity to pounce forward quickly and ravage you.
@@sunmoonstars0369 125 confirmed attacks and 27 fatalities in North America in the past 100 years. Your more likely to get struck by lightning then get attacked by a cougar... I'll take my chances defending myself or standing my ground with those numbers
I’m so glad you’re ok
"I'm not gonna back down I promise" *has been backing down for half a mile
"not *going back down" meaning he won't go back where her babies are. Not that she'd understand that.
Hiker: go away kitty cat I'm big and scary
Mountain lion: no your not
Such a good momma
Also are pumas usually that thin? I thought they were.. meatier? Or is it just the season?
Nah it’s just a younger one. And on top of that it’s a female.
I was wondering when he would starting picking up rocks.
Bending down makes you appear smaller and more likely to be seen as less of a threat and better prey. At the end he took a chance and got away with it and the cat took off. He did very well handling this situation in not running too triggers predatory instincts to attack.
I told you. Being the cameramen always works
Can't imagine if there is another mountain lion protecting her cub from the top of the tracks
Props to that guy for surviving. But That animal showed great restraint. Imagine if you saw a complete stranger recording your toddler in your house.
She was directing you to film in landscape
why even stop and record the cub? he should have just booked it as soon as he saw it
He does interviews about this: he was videoing what he thought were bobcats, which are apparently not aggressive.
Nope.
Hijinks ensue.
@@boop4904 damn thankfully hes around for interviews. shit was actually scary and he handled the rest of the situation well
Doesn’t running away from predators (especially those in the feline category) just make them chase after you? Though in this case if she was just protecting her cubs she might’ve just let him run
@@Ria-vj3ch well yea but the smart thing to do is to immediately turn around and walk away b4 they even acknowledge you
@@Lambotino either way, that still seems dangerous 😂
Most probably she was a mother, and the hiker got too near to her cubs
She just wants to be friends 😂
Did one of the kittens chase him too?
The "F word" ......mans best friend
I saw people comment that he did everything right but I have to say I don't think that's the case. He walked TOWARDS the cubs to begin with. And then started running when they defended themselves. Never suppose to run. He shoulda started backing away the moment he noticed them. He made the right decisions after this... To just keep backing away. Except they recommend you trying throwing things towards them to scare them away. Try to look big. Definitely wasn't waving his arms like they recommend cause he was holding the phone. I dunno. This is a crazy experience, Im shook just watching the video, wanted to comment what's recommended so others know too.
Imagine if he had walked backwards right into a bear lol
He saw the baby and it was like wanna play and he was like mamas near hell no I don't want to play with u
It’s so funny when he flaps his big paws lol
Finally, the uncensored version.
