No, when I went hiking in Colorado I came within about 40 yards of one that stalked me for about 700 yards. Once it got close I put 2 rounds at its paws that cat jumped in the air and backwards about 4 feet of the ground and scattered really fast. You don't EVER turn your back on a big cat, and you CERTAINLY never run from them. Hell my girlfriends cat has ninja struck me while I was paying attention.
Mountain lions kill by biting the back of the neck and breaking the spine. They won’t attack you from the front...that’s why it approached so quick when he turned for a few seconds. You never turn your back on a mountain lion or it’ll go for the kill.
@@beekay5914 No, it was correct. In "He was passed," the words "was passed" is in the simple passive tense. Yeah someone died from a mountain lion attack a yr or two ago. I thought the camera was attached to something but this guy is holding the camera in his one hand?? He needs to be ready to use both hands. That cat could be on top of him in under 1 second if it wanted to. Im pretty sure it could reach him in just a single pounce
He’s trying to move away from it like prey. He’s lucky it didn’t pounce. “I’m way bigger than you.” I don’t care how big you are, if a mountain lion decides that you are for lunch.. you aren’t fighting that thing off of you without a weapon. You’re best bet at that point is to be the aggressor. Be loud and move towards the animal. It will probably be convinced that you are the scarier creature and it will lose interest and move on to find easier prey. Try to do the opposite and run away and you won’t make it very far before feeling the full power of those muscles bearing down on you while razor blades cut into your back and a bite force like you wouldn’t believe snaps your neck. “I’m not afraid of you.” The funny thing about being eaten alive is that you don’t have to be afraid for it to happen lol.
People remember YOU WILL NEVER OUTRUN A MOUNTAIN LION! The best reply if you come across one is to stare it down, appear big as you can and make as much noise as possible all the while remain eye to eye locked in, letting it know YOU see it as well as it sees you (stealth attack is not an option) this guy handled it perfectly.
That’s exactly what you do ,,, try to intimidate it at least show it no fear… Look at the vid- - cougar stalks man on Vancouver Island….. It really is. I know the camera wasn't super high quality but even still, the puma just melted through that grass, getting bigger and bigger. Your perception is dulled when an object comes right at you with no side-to-side movement... amazing how instinct can transfer that deep knowledge from generation to generation of cat
@Seckswithatoaster Most likely just curious. They're nocturnal hunters. Not sure why this one would be out during the day other than being immature. A ball of yarn or perhaps a large cardboard box nay be a good alternative if you don't have access to a laser.
that was the most incredible video. I love how the man was ever polite... "hello Mr. mountain Lion" ... but I've seen my cats stalk mice, there was no mistaking it. I could feel the inner conflict. Part of me would be like this is the MOST AWESOME thing to be this close to a mountain lion, and another part of me would be like, maybe he just wants to be friends and let me pet him, what if he was a friendly mountain lion who was raised around people..... but I know what cats look like when they stalk prey. And also when the man said a firm NO, the cat YELLED back!! It roared!! But ultimately, the cat wasn't totally sure if he was big enough to take the man on, and then he looked away like saving face as if to say 'I wasn't stalking YOU, seriously?? Whatever.... and walks away..... But I wonder what happened later because the cat could have doubled back and in the tall grass that cougar was practically invisible.
If he had turned and ran it wouldn't have been pretty at all. Most large cats stalk and attack without the knowledge of the animal even being there. That encounter was very unusual, looked like it was wanting him to show fear and run. Must have been hungry.
@@Bass-ne6dl I think he was like "I have this badass mountain lion footage, but in the middle of it I make a weak-ass roar that's kinda embarrassing." So he added the growl over top to distract from it.
@@jacobsaintjames I have that suspicion too. Might be wrong, but that sound was a little TOO exact to the ones you hear in movies. Of course, horses all tend to sound pretty similar too. It's just odd for how chill the cougar was that at this specific moment when the camera is bobbing and super blurry that it lets out this death-cry in response to his attempt to scare it.
@@JJMDude I am certain because of the animal's posture. If it was feeling threatened enough to growl and even roar, its ears would be flattened and its stance would be low to the ground and aggressive. Instead it is just standing calmly watching him. An animal in that calm curious state would never make so threatening a sound. If it was real, we wouldn't have heard it just once, and the guy would have been in a lot more trouble.
@Dredgen One yup, exactly, had he turned his back, he would have been attacked. That is what the mountain lion was waiting for, show of fear and for him to turn around.
I never understood the mentality of feeling “at home” in the woods and, therefore, venturing into it with no protection. Other animals aren’t the only threat. People can be dangerous too. If you really respect the woods, then you need to be cognizant of the potential dangers and at least carry a bowie knife or machete.
Hollo Hullu this guy wasn’t being stupid but he still got approached by a mountain lion. Now what if it felt more confident with attacking him? Never underestimate a creature that can easily kill you
It was already stalking him, if he hadn’t faced the mountain lion it probably would’ve tried a surprise attack. Most big cats are like that though, as soon as their element of surprise is gone they’ll usually leave you be. But never turn your back on one or even less try to run...
Ngl I've only been in this kinda situation once amd i would have probably died if i didn't take step forward by accident, i was acting like i wasn't scared and talking to it and i stepped forward cuz it felt like my legs were gonna give out, and suddenly it jumped back a little, like it was scared for a second, thats when my flight or fight response kicked in and i had a major boost of confidence and energy and i guess since i saw it get scared it gave me the courage to scream as loud as i could with a smile on my face and sprint at it and it fucking bolted in the opposite direction lmao
Indeed. Most wild animal are naturally afraid of humans. Plus they tend to not fight unless they are forced to do so, as they could end up harmed and even die in the fight. They prey upon well ... preys. Most of the time, smaller animals that them. If you show them you're not a prey, they prefer to flee, unless they are starving and didn't eat for several days (but that's very rare I assume). The thing is to not get cocky but also to not get scared and paralysed.
haha for real, imagine you're the predator around and try to eat a prey and it's totally unfazed by your presence and starts bolting towards you shouting with a smile, creepy horror movie shit I'll say that, he'll be telling that story to his buddies later for sure 😂😂
When confronted by a mountain lion, or any hunter type mammal DO NOT RUN AWAY FROM IT!!!!!! THAT is what they are waiting for, so they can chase you, kill you and eat you. Instead, yell, wave your arms and SLOWLY MOVE TOWARD THEM. It will confuse them and cause them to leave you alone. Just be aware of where they are as you SLOWLY retreat backward out of the area
Allyson Marie THAT was truly amazing. And, he is sincerely and earnestly lucky he didn’t get smoked right then. Otherwise, he really did a great job of keeping his composure (even though he’s shaking-understandably-so hard, the camera is blurring). But, man oh man, that was straight from a horror movie!! Yet, just so cool and amazing!!
he actually did a bad job. he sounded very insecure and was pretty silent. you need to be loud an threatening, spreading your arms up into the air. the only reason hes alive is because this animal made the individual decision that the risk is too high. but he did nothing to support that thought. the second he ran he triggered the hunting instinct. I suppose it was a young animal since it really was cautious and stopped when he turned around. he did everything wrong you can do wrong there.
I like how the mountain lion is trying to decide should it go for the attack or not. "like he did run from me earlier" "but he's also bigger than me, i could get hurt" "hmmm he moved forward toward me, should i risk it" "nah i'm good I'll head out"
That human may be bigger than the mountain lion, but the mountain lion is stronger than him. If an average adult mountain lion ever decided to proceed in a full-fledged battle to the death with an average adult human being, the mountain lion would end the human being. It's just a lucky thing for us that mountain lions are not so eager on fighting human beings, rather they are put off by the loud noises...
Sunny Gupta I disagree, while a full grown adult male human would sustain major damage I highly doubt the mountain lion survives. Also keep In mind the lion can’t afford to sustain damage bcuz it needs to hunt so I’m sure they would run 9/10
@@chiefsosa077 you doubt the mountain lion survives against a human. Without weapons what damage could we even do. All it would need to do is bite or claw at a blood vessel and we would bleed out, whereas we cant do that kind of damage. Our best chance is intimidation, if that doesn't work we are either going to be injured or killed. You know the cat in the video wasnt fully grown, right. And even that one would be able to kill a full grown adult if it really wanted too, hence why the guy in video was so intimidated

I faced one hiking with my mom. It’s easy for people to say “don’t run”. The wind gets knocked out of you when facing one, I couldn’t even whisper. If it wasn’t for bikers coming down the hill and scaring it off, I would’ve ran and been dead! Carry a weapon, they walk towards you.
Here's my dilemma. Say I didn't run. What if I get attacked nevertheless. Then ill die for sure and never live to say that this advice is shit. If I run then maybe the lion will only eat the old woman who tagged along for the hike for no particular reason?
This may sound funny but it's not: I faced a scenario just like this with a crazy squirrel. The damn thing charged at me and started making all kinds of noise... I ran for my life.
I had that happen to me before to I was practicing archery and he was on the fence that was like 4 feet from me and he kept running near me and turning the other direction and he went to run at me so I shot my arrow right next to and it and it took off and I didn't see it again😂
You are supposed to make as much noise as possible while waving your arms around making yourself seem bigger and more dangerous while standing your ground. Running away or being docile is not the right idea here, this guy got EXTREMELY lucky.
Animals can hear, though instead of understanding words they hear the pitches and patterns of your voice and understand aggressive tone of your voice for example. This guy didn't do a great job sounding aggressive but got away with it. So it really doesn't matter if you speak in english or just make random sounds, both just as good.
You can literally hear the fear in his voice, didn't sound like he had an ounce of anything he was going to fight back with. Calmly telling it you are bigger, and being bigger in your heart are two different things entirely.
MalminOG Well of course but if you are allowing this animal to stalk you then you're letting it take control. It's not a domesticated animal so using words is not going to keep the animal away. I've killed two mountain lions in my life and one I tracked down because it killed a horse of mine. They are a lot larger then most people think so when that guy was saying he's much bigger is plain idiotic. My ranch is in New Mexico so they migrate right through my ranch every year.
This cat seemed more inquisitive than predatory. I can see where that could have changed in an instant. Never let your guard down, never run, never turn your back.
Good point. Just finished watching some how to survive animal attacks videos, and it helps to be able to tell the difference, but then each animal has their own way of displaying being inquisitive vs aggressive.

@@geno7462 better than No 9mm will... I'll assume if his dogs don't scare away the bear and the horn or spray hadn't worked he'll use his gun... maybe even on himself..
A 9mm will kill with effective shot placement and the right ammo. No hollows for furry creatures, preferably ball ammo. There are reports of bears being killed with a 22 long rifle. But obviously the bigger the round the better due to the mass of the bullet, and extra penetration it may cause. When I go hunting in Alaska I take a 10mm Glock as a backup gun. Light to carry, plenty of rounds, always on him, and great penetration.

But if the animal was scared and second guessing eating you and then you soot at the ground in front of it or in the air it should run.. but sometimes as I said, gunshots can provoke an attack
No, when I went hiking in Colorado I came within about 40 yards of one that stalked me for about 700 yards. Once it got close I put 2 rounds at its paws that cat jumped in the air and backwards about 4 feet of the ground and scattered really fast.
Then after I saw how fast it took off I realize I should have fired a shot before he got to 40 yards because he could have closed the distance on me really quick, just food for thought they are quick don't let them get too close.

This guy is lucky to be alive. That cat was stalking him for a kill.
Brian Garrigan Fake News.
The important thing to remember if this happens to you is DONT ACT LIKE PREY!! He should not have ran.. make loud noises
You relate to Sherlock or something?
People remember YOU WILL NEVER OUTRUN A MOUNTAIN LION! The best reply if you come across one is to stare it down, appear big as you can and make as much noise as possible all the while remain eye to eye locked in, letting it know YOU see it as well as it sees you (stealth attack is not an option) this guy handled it perfectly.

"like he did run from me earlier"
"but he's also bigger than me, i could get hurt"
"hmmm he moved forward toward me, should i risk it"
"nah i'm good I'll head out"
That human may be bigger than the mountain lion, but the mountain lion is stronger than him.
Sunny Gupta also it’s best chance would be the initial strike which it better hope it gets the throat bcuz it’s probably finished if not
VeeMaxine you make good points as well
@@chiefsosa077 you doubt the mountain lion survives against a human. Without weapons what damage could we even do. You are supposed to make as much noise as possible while waving your arms around making yourself seem bigger and more dangerous while standing your ground. Running away or being docile is not the right idea here, this guy got EXTREMELY lucky.
Albert Einstein I love how he's talking to lion in English like it's a person?
Fake roar everyone 100% 1 you can totally tell i mean it's fucking obvious. 2 the lion is just curious and doesnt look at all like he just roared. The cameras shaking and when you hear the roar the cats laterally just looking at him calmly no teeth showing.

I think the mountain lion was finally driven off by the smell of the poo collecting in your shorts.
+crimdell Hahaha...
crimdell lol. That's why the cat looked at him with his mouth open lol.
LMAO
😂😂😂
😂😂😂
He did so-so on this one. He kept somewhat calm, and faced the cat for the most part (other than that moronic couple of seconds). If you're ever in this position, look for a large branch or something to hold above your head, and make low tone but loud and stern sounds. You want to make yourself look big and scary, and try not to put off too many fear pheromones 😉
It covered a lot of ground toward him as soon as he turned his back. Not sure he realized how close he came to an attack.
He was just people watching. Bet he went home and told his cat buddies he ran into a wild human.
Hooman
Probably posted a video on CatTube
Why does that Mountain Lion have to be both scary and cute at the same time at 2:17 haha.

RUNNING from a predator.........not the best idea.

Mankind is the predator, the mountain lion fled even with a retreating human.
I'm surprised the smell of shit didn't deter the cat. You know when he turned to run his underwear took one for the team.
▂▃Zaggnut▃▂ this isn't mankind you dumbfuck. It's a single human being seemingly without a weapon who the mountain lion could tear apart if it wanted to. The mountain lion is the predator here
2:15 I didn't realize that "Hey Mr. Mountain Lion, how're you doing" is what you say on reflex when you're about to cry and pee your pants at the same time.
You handled this right. The lion was confused as to why you didn’t panic and run. And you are right about height. In nature tall usually means power so when animals see us standing upright they think we are more than we really are. But NEVER turn your back.
Did you seriously turned your back and tried to outrun it? Lmao.
he moved to his bike it was only a meter or so but yeah still risky
When I saw that he move quickly like trying to run I thought oh no! He’s done! Lol
Should have walked backwards slowly
Should’ve stayed on the couch :)

Mountain lion : Hey man, can i become your friend
Man: Stay away, I'm much bigger than you
Mountain lion: Alright man, I’m outta here 🚶🏼♂️
That kind of thinking is how ppl end up dead
Ничего Себя they would surely have a really in depth conversetion
I think the homosexual mt lion was wanting to mate with this homosexual hiker In this homosexual and environment

My Alaskan friend never goes into the woods without his 3 German shepherds and his 9mm, bear spray and loud Air horn.. all on his belt.. that's prepared..!
Would a 9mm do much to a bear?
@@geno7462 better than No 9mm will... I'll assume if his dogs don't scare away the bear and the horn or spray hadn't worked he'll use his gun... maybe even on himself..
Unfortunately I'm 9 m m in Alaska is a poor choice for four-legged predators
.44 mag and above when carrying handgun
A 9mm will kill with effective shot placement and the right ammo. No hollows for furry creatures, preferably ball ammo. There are reports of bears being killed with a 22 long rifle. But obviously the bigger the round the better due to the mass of the bullet, and extra penetration it may cause. When I go hunting in Alaska I take a 10mm Glock as a backup gun. Light to carry, plenty of rounds, always on him, and great penetration.
Loved the stock sound effect added in post.
“I’m not afraid of you”. Good bluff!! 😂😂
“Do you REALLY need to bring that pistol out EVERYTIME we go on a hike???”
Just one? 😂
The Himmler Black bears are the largest animals in my area. I NEVER scout, or hunt without my 7 shot .357 on my side, with a speed loader.
man i need a pistol going to the kitchen
He's in Canada, so he cannot carry a handgun.
