No one cares about Amanda Waller.
Exactly, and for some reason James Gunn is wasting time giving her a show instead of focusing on characters that actually matter.
Amanda Waller is suffering from the same problem that batman has had since 2000, and that's the grant Morrison god level prep time, Waller seems to be able to do absolutely anything she wants without paying the price.... It's boring
But she's body positive and diverse so she is important 😂
@Thee_Assclown Yet New 52 decided she was Mari McCabe's twin sister. Also, I don't understand this turn to the dark side. She is just a civilian wants to do the greater good and does it in a gray area way. Nothing wrong with that.
@DavidMartinez-ce3lp probably trying to make a dc nick fury
Amanda Waller checks boxes. That's why they're treating her like she's Lex Luthor, Magneto, and Dr. Doom combined.
What are you talking about.... she's always been this way. She was popular in the JLA show and more.
Some of you guys are delusional.
@@TheCaptainhowdy11 That cartoon was like 25 years ago.
@jravage77 YET people still recognize John Stewart as Green Lantern. Same can be said for BATMAN the Animated Series, everyone knows Mark Hamil is the Joker. 30 something years ago, your point?
Delusional.
Dan Mira is the greatest artist in mainstream comics right now . He is the hardest working guy out there . I will buy any book he draws regardless of who’s writing it .
Absolute Power will likely end with Waller’s future being prevented by the entire superhero community, the JLA reformed, Absolute DC being used three years after its discovery at the end of Death Metal, and Waller going to prison for manipulating the people to not trust the superheroes and being a fugitive after going to Earth 3.
Also, like Dark Crisis, Lazarus Planet, Knight Terrors, and Beast World, Absolute Power will start as an interesting event before it becomes lackluster and fails miserably.
I would like to see that already.
Who the fuck told them we wanted MORE amanda waller? Ughghg... D tier character. Shes not a big bad..
James Gunn
Why don't they give Jeremy Adams an event. On his flash and current green lantern runs, he was able to turn previous writers' chicken sh!t into chicken salad
Supposedly he's working on something
@@FelicityKiller😮
They putting Amanda Waller in so many variant covers makes me think DC doesnt get it why people usually buy variants.
They keep trying to make her like the Nick Fury of the DC universe, but she's not nearly as popular.
John Ostrander is the only writer who can write a decent story focused on Amanda Waller. In the original Suicide Squad series, he wrote a decent origin story for her and made her into a very relatable character. Since then, 💩
It feels like DC are trying to do with Amanda Waller what they did with Maxwell Lord in Infinite Crisis, turn a middling level side character into an evil genius and mastermind. It's going to probably suck but this is what DC have decided to sink all their marketing in for the summer.
Since Wild storm is dead and they aren't doing of value with it (Rosenberg Wildcats should remain unread and lost to history) why not use Bendix, who would be much more credible in the role they put Waller in.
So, basically another excuse for Waid to make off with 50% of everyone else's page rate? He's got a good racket going, that one does!
Man, I hate dawnbreaker. Bruce was so sad that he broke the GL ring and destroyed the corps and his universe is so stupid and insulting to the countless tragedies the actual green lanterns have gone through. It was another example of Sam Humphries not knowing Jack about how the green lantern ring works.
I can't remember the last time I read a new DC comic book. This event will definitely not change that.
Well. this confirms I'll be ignoring another DC event.
If Mark Waid hadn't checked me out, Amanda Waller would have. If Amanda Waller hadn't, 'disinformation campaign' certeainly would have.
Im gonna grab the FCBD issue...thats how much ill invest into DCs Absolute
The good news
Look at how money we are saving by not buying those crap comics.
It's pretty useful in those time of inflation
Personally, I might as well buy Lego sets and Manga instead. I think I want to go to Tokyo. Anyone else would go?
Passing on absolute power and blood hunt
So it sounds like dollar bin books will have some new books. If all of July is the event when is the Justice League going to reappear? That might be the only book that might have sales depending on who writes it.Great video Wes and thanks for all of your efforts to keep us informed.
Pretty soon Marvel and DC are going to have to do a Special Issue (32 variants, ofcourse) to celebrate the only 'straight' aspect left in their current books..... the Speech Bubbles.
Absolute power will be Absolute trash
Why because this RUclipsr says so? Get some balls. I like Wes’ content but I’m no sheep 🐑.
I make my own criteria. You should too. Everyone must form their own views in life. You all used to following strangers on social media. Wake up!
It hasn’t come out yet and you’re making claims.
@@ComicsForLife2023 STFU Absolute power will be garbage
I'm with you. I will not read anything from Mark Waid. There's just no looking over what he said. Not this time.
My life got so much better when I stopped buying any event issues outside the event book itself. They are all cash grabs and totally unnecessary to the story.
Yea most tie-ins are just a total waste of time, and that’s because they ARE a tie-in, so because a lot of people won’t buy it they can’t really put anything important to the story into it.
Some terrible events are pretty good if just buy the TPB without the endless filler tie ins. (Also helps if you aren't buying a monthly title that gets derailed with tie ins.)
All these recent events have been really boring and pointless. I'm not sure who is supposed to be excited for an event starring Amanda Waller.
No one is excited for this lol
I didn’t have much interest in DC to begin with. This doesn’t help.
4:37 Thank you for mentioning some of the artists here. I must admit, I come from the 90s when all we did was talk about the artists and I only know Chris Claremont was a writer back then.... in the 2 years that I have returned to collecting, I notice most do not mention the artists anymore. I am so glad you did here. Now I got to go and look them up online and see some of their art. It would be interesting to see you take a moment and talk about your top 5 artists from DC and your top 5 from Marvel. "Comic Books that look so good you can't keep them board and bagged because the interiors are just that good!" I would love that!
I am more worried about Batman making a resistance against said misinformation campaign.
Amanda Waller story sound similar to Marvel story with Norman Osborn where he turn his body into the adaptoid and start gaining powers similar to people he was fighting.
It was actually used in the Batman (2004) by an alien race called the joining. Where the used android like Justice Leaguers with their powers and it was up the dark knight to use his contingency plans to stop them.
I loved that 2 parter. I really liked that Superman defended Batman for having contingency plans. Really cool to see all the heroes come together.

Dark crisis was a mess and Joshua Williams shouldn’t have been the led Writer for that event. DC should have brought on Johns and gave him the keys to kingdom. Instead we got Megan Fritzmartin who took a dump on Tim Drake fans and the past creators who worked on him. Also Joshua Williams didn’t even do good fight sequences and he just dropped the ball. But I will say this. That DC did this to themselves the moment they chose the message over the fans and characters.
Wonder Woman in pants? okay, i'm out
female Custodes always been there /s
I am excited for all this news. Dan Mora's designs are fire. I do love a lot of Mark Waids writing in-spite of his online antics.
Mark waid doesn’t want me in his comic book industry, he’s also never demonstrated enough talent for me to want to read his bull, I’ll read something else
I thought I was done with mark waid, when he showed his character during that legal fight where he got away with a crime against comicsmatters by using lawfare to run up the bill so zack would give up. I ended up buying his story where he returned to kingdomcome. It was alright. I pretty much done with him now.
the bat cash cow can "defeat" Supes, yet wallpaper gives him problems?
and stealing powers? you mean like Amazo?
dis-info about superfolk? you mean like in Legends?
seems legit.
I am personally intrigue about absolute power and how it turns out even though my expectations on this event aren't really high but i am hoping this story is really good but that's just my opinion.
Will be getting the main book and only the batman tie ins as that's the character I collect. Waid and mora have done little to no wrong so no reason to believe this won't be a great event. Hopefully as a whole we can have Ws across the board in the event.
Actually I would love reading another Superman without powers fighting an evil robot with his powers comic, if that is what's going to happen in that one tie-in to the event, I actually might read that one issue even though I have no plans to read the main story.
Jeremy Adams is definitely my favorite DC writer right now. He and Venditti need more work.
Hey Wes, what are your thoughts on the new Gotham by Gaslight The Kryptonian Age 12 part series? idk if it will be good or not? Interested to hear your thoughts. thanks.
I don't why it exists but I'll check it out.
This whole event sounds more like something Ultra Humanite would cook up more than Amanda Waller.
I'll check out the main event mainly for Dan Mora's art and the tie ins that have Jeremy Adams' name on it.
Mark Waid lost me when he shit all over the Legion of Super-Heroes by retelling all of the major key story arcs and mashing them all together, changing things around unnecessarily and just ruining the book overall.
The last thing I ever read by him was Irredeemable, which was pretty good but even then I could only get through about the first 12 before I realized that it probably should have ended there. After that, his general comments on the industry as a whole has killed any chance for him that I'll care about anything he does.
It's your choice to pick and choose who you support, based on their online behavior. But if you avoid Waid, then don't support ANYTHING DC prints. Supporting offshoot or connected titles Waid isn't directly writing on isn't taking a stand. It's being weak and ultimately giving in, seems to me. Same goes for Marvel. Either support someone or don't. Too much good stuff out there without compromising your standards by standing in the fringe and buying only a title or two because you have a gripe about one or two people. Kinda like talking out of both sides of your mouth.
I am going to check out the core story and all the tie-in Superman/Batman/Wonder Woman. Definitely not looking at Task Force VII
I think the heroes will have at least 5 min of power they will have to use at their maximum.
It would be an event if they wouldnt do an event for a couple of months.
But the Amazo robot copies everyone's powers. Arent these JLA Amazos sort of limiting themselves by only basing themselves on ONE JLA member each??
They need to break the wall! 🤣
I may or may not check it out I really really dig Joshua Williamson as a writer Flash Year One was AWESOME! so maybe idk, but what I don't understand is how Mark Waid was able to return to DC because I remember hearing at one point he was basically dead to DC. So how he was even allowed back is beyond me
Personally I just want good comics and so far Mark Waid and Dan Mora have lived up to their side of the bargain. Still though I’ll probably wait until reviews come out first before I dive in.
Why wait, fcbd is Saturday and it's free.
Really please explain how they've lived up to it lately let me know what you think is incredible comics coming from them. I won't really criticized the art more so Mark waid. If you say his Shazam run I'll lose my f****** mind that's not bad books but come on man if that's what we got we're in trouble
@@jonathansoko1085 Well we’ve gotten about 26 issues of consistently great stories in World’s Finest. I’d say that meets the necessary qualifications.
@@CoreyAdolfi Agreed. These days (especially), that's a HUGE accomplishment. Mediocrity in a sea of crap, is water on the lips of a deprived man. Though Worlds Finest is historically one of the most reliably good on-goings. It's why I'm such a longtime fan. In a world where ASM is in the state it finds itself - its a small miracle that 'modern' World's Finest is still enjoyable enough.
12:54 You mean Trial of the Amazons or Revenge of the Gods?
Strange they keep focusing on Amanda Waller, a non powered villain who’s not that deep or interesting. Might as well focus on Dr. Ivo while theyre at it…
They wanna make her like the Nick Fury of the DC universe, but nobody cares about because she's nowhere near as interesting
This event at least interests me more than Night terrors(with a k) did but the name is super generic.
Absolute power?? Another event probably celebrating the power of women of DC or should i say alphabet power. Almost every new series < turns into a mini series due to low sales> is someone coming out of the closet. I remember when Marvel and DC was having their event in the summer, acts of vengeance, mutant massacre, the rise of serpentor, Knightfall, death of superman and more. Those comics were events were you had to get every issues to get the full stories wich had consequences for almost every characters.
Now, it's all about Diversity, the messages, coming out, year long gala around the table talking about their feeling and more. I'm glad that my wallet will be closed for this event. I'll probably wait for the reprint of infinity crisis as well secret wars so my wallet can lose some weight!
Go Woke, Wallet Obese!
I'll probably read it on Infinite, but im over all the continuous "changed forever" crossovers. In my opinion a true multi verse crisis event should only come around every 10 years.
Since Joshua Willimas is part of this...wonder if the 'real' evil behind it is someone who's done a similar thing AND has a tie to Waller or did before all the 35 recons over the years...Eclipso. Be a way to bring back one of the most powerful beings in DC, tie into stuff from earlier incarnations of the universe, Waller led a team that was tasked with hunting Eclipso. Just a thought.
I love Amanda Waller. I think she's a great Anti-Villian. I like the way she actually rubs me the wrong way. She isn't liked doesn't want to be liked. That makes her fascinating. The entire Suicide Squad concept and how heartless it is is radical. Amanda Waller and Suicide Squad are proof how far ahead it time and space that DC have always been. Remember when you read Amanda Waller your not supposed to feel a comfort or connection to her . She is a female Napoleon trying to save humans from God's gone mad.
I'm not a feminist. Or anything like that either. I just hope Mark Waid can utilize DCs rich continuity to bring some light to back issues collecting dust. Do any of The Thinking Criticalytes could ask Mark Waid to follow up the GL /Darkstar/LEGION crossover "TRINITY". Also can we get a follow up to LORDS OF LUCK???
Lol. Our Scientific intsruments are not powerful or sophisticated
Enough to measure the minuscule amount of interest I have in reading anything Amanda Waller.
I wonder if all the metahuman powers on earth will be taken over by a girl who is the key to everything?
Not without first setting it up with a filler issue, featuring 20 pages of eating and talk, illustrated by the stand-in-for-the-stand-in artist, and inked by a third grader!
@@mr.selfimprovement3241inked by a third grader, so stunning and brave
@@DavidMartinez-ce3lp Indeed. I hear that third grader comes from a disadvantaged background.... they are a pan-questioning/bi-curious/demi-sexual atheist who identifies as a non-binary Inuit! 👏😍😭 I hear they/them are being paid the going rate for inkers at the big two these days.... a subscription X Premium! So they can keep us informed on all the important gender discoveries and scientific breakthroughs around prohibitively expensive craft candied coffees... truly important and education posts aimed at our children!
Awesome work mate
I'm just about out on all Marvel & DC events, besides the main event books. However, I think I'll just read this on DC Infinite Universe subscription, and perhaps pick up the trade or a Deluxe Edition of the event...maybe.
What get's me is out of all the female characters that DC could have used as a Villain. They went with Waller, who really isn't a villain if you think about it. This may be what I've seen of her character in the JLU cartoon. She strikes me as someone who wants to keep the people safe but at the same time. Doesn't fully trust the super heroes to do that. Also back to the Villain thing, Talia al Ghul or Lady Shiva would probably have made for better villains then Waller.
I don't think we need the details to know that this is gonna be complete trash. The ideas being used are already fucking stupid. And considering it's DC Comics theres no chance in hell of any of it being executed well. DC's only talent these days is shooting themselves in the foot.
V Ken Marion is indeed AWESOME!
“It’s going to take some really good writing to explain why Amanda Waller would be in charge of Failsafe.”
They don’t call her Amanda “Brain Bomb” Waller for nothin’. Wait, no, I got it. Brainiac Bomb. See what I did there. Brain-IAC bomb. Come on. Sigh.
Any Waid’s, might skip as well. Will wait on reviews to see if the whole event ’bombs’ …
My lcs owner tried to get me to buy the suicide squad book because it set up the absolute power event. I told him nah and I wasn’t interested in that book or even going to be interested in that event. I’m done buying events. I’m done buying so many of these mediocre titles.
Yeah, tough to trust DC to do a good “event” series. But, I am a sucker, and will be buying the mainline😜
I'm so tired of DC and Marvel events. Waid Lazarus Planet was very boring and I don't think that Absolute Power will be better. Amanda Waller it's just a hateful villain in these days. Failsafe it's just a Amazo copycat to me.I'll just skip this and Marvel Blood Hunt event too.I'll stick to Ultimate Universe and mangas only.
Amanda Waller is a black woman, who will probably be revealed to be a lesbian. So she is the most important character ever to DC.
I'm so sick of Amanda Waller too - she was a throw away character even in the late 1980s and 90s. She was originally a unlikable, female kingpin, Karen... but shes one of your more well know black female characters in DC - so they kept her in the back-pocket because she's just a stand in for a better 'minority/female' villain they are unable to create. The fact shes forced in your ear for hours-on-end in that new Suicide Squad video-game... Jesus Christ.
They keep trying to maker her like the Nick Fury of the DC universe. Even in the DCEU she was telling Superman to fight Black Adam. She was recruiting Shazam for the JSA. Who put her in charge of everything?
Wes this is all Jim Lee’s fault. He’s toned out of what fans want. DC needs a leader and direction. Jim Lee is living off of past glories.
I never thought I'd miss Dan Didio, but here I am.
@@dice_fumbler4478 Yes! At least he made an effort. Jim Lee content drawing covers. That’s not leadership.
Did anything ever happen with that previous event, Knight Terrors or whatever it was called? There was an issue that was supposed to be the last issue, but then it just ended partway through a confrontation, meaning either there was going to be an extra issue readers had to buy to learn the conclusion (like Marvel and their trend of having “omega issues” to conclude or even just wind down a mini-series) or the makers forgot how many issues the mini-series was supposed to be, but just shrugged and decided not to make an ending instead of doing anything about it.
Also, this has zero to do with the topic, but I’m angry and disgusted by this. I just read about the New Invaders storyline (that Marvel did before Civil War), and holy cow, the way-
“Oh, wait, I’ve read your rants before! This is going to be about writers royally botching Captain America and U.S.Agent, isn’t it?”
You’re absolutely right! Here are your prizes! 🏆 🍪 🍪 🍪 🍚 🏅
“Yay!”
The way those two were handled were vomit-inducing levels of bad. It’s like the goal was to make Steve look like a hateful crybaby who couldn’t stand for anyone else to be given a little authority and John look like an arrogant crybaby who couldn’t stand not having all the authority. It was pure character assassination and tied for the most butt-backward portrayals of the characters I’ve ever heard about, so much so that I wonder if they were replaced by Hydra agents during that series. You know what else is terrible? This garbage happens all the time nowadays with characters and they don’t care how angry fans get about it. They expect longtime readers to take it or else be called be called names while the new readers they’ve been courting, who don’t actually exist, cheer them on.
I said it elsewhere but again, this feels like DC pulling out their remaining "Big Guns" to pull this off given how abysmal past events were as well as current books just struggling. Waid is an asshole but he is the closest thing DC has to a Star writer as well as his series like Shazam and World's Finest actually being good. Dan Mora draws everything beautifully so even if Waid drops the ball it will at least look pretty. I do hope things after Absolute Power are at least more organized than Dawn of DC has been.
And yeah, I'm not looking forward to hearing about Waller's "disinformation" campaign as it will most likely be heavy handed and from people guilty of their own brand of "disinformation" I.e. "anyone who doesn't like our books or politics are really just natzeees" type. And for the record, I actually like Amanda Waller, but she's not some OP evil mastermind but would be smart enough to know removing super powers isn't the answer. It will bite her in the ass hard when Failsafe and/or Brainiac Queen double cross her.
Lets take the justice league powers and put them in amazo. Sounds like season 2 episode 3 of justice league the animated series.
I have Pride month all year. I'm proud that I dropped comics from the big 2 and took my money elsewhere.
WOW
Really a misunderstood
Amanda Waller
Why does every villain
Has to be misunderstood
These days
Amanda Waller makes this event VERY skippable. The plot is just as “exciting.” Still enjoying World’s Finest.
What did Mark Waid say?
Yawn. Another event i will skip.
I ain't giving Marvel & DC my money on anything.
Oh joy John Riddley to write Waller's origin. Gee will we see any bias' play out in that origin story that wouldn't have been put in or existed 30 years ago? I read the FCBD Absolute Power already. Waid wrote and it was good, I won't say it isn't just because Waid allows his overreaching political views to spill into the industry and become caustic. I have no idea why Green Arrow is working with Waller in this. Makes no sense based on Oliver Queen's character. Is Failsafe really working for Waller? Ah honestly I doubt that from what I read. More like allies of convivence based on each others ultimate goals. But I will say based on the sampling of it, giving the 1st issue a try is probably a good idea. WTF20.
Oh wow a writer who always writes about race (Ridley) is going to write a black character (Waller). Who wants to bet that Waller will experience racism in that book? Taking bets now!
They had to call Ridley, since Geoffrey Thorne will be too busy doing the same thing at Marvel on his X-Men title.
How is Waller stealing WW’s powers? They’re from the gods.
She does
If DC says so
This doesn't help your case Wes. Marvel is not the worse one.
Marvel is absolutely AWFUL right now, but DC Comics is currently unreadable, TOXIC! Worse than Amber Heard! Worse than anything!
Well, current Doctor Who is the one thing worse than current DC Comics.
I won't be reading Absolute Power. It's just going to be a piss poor retread of two much better events, Forever Evil and Infinite Crisis.
What a friggin' lame idea.
Boring Event Month
Looking forward to Absolute Power. Seems like they put some thoughts into this DC Event for 2024. Good artist. Good writers. What more you want. Dan Mora always delivers.
what is thier to look forward too here? nothing sounds all that great
@garycannon4644 why don't you like it.
@@mr.dccomics9018 im wiped out on all the damn events theres been ALOT of them

Wow! Lot of negativity here. Mark Waid and Dan Mora! Rumored new Justice League spinning out of this! Boxes checked for me! I’m in! 👍🏻😉
Hard pass. Nothing in it sounds interestng.
No one cares enough to not care about Amanda Waller
