- DC Comics have more than just Absolute Power on the horizon. DC announced relaunches for both Gotham City Sirens and DC Vs Vampires. Unfortunately, as is the case with most DC Comics titles now, there isn't any writing talent associated with either book. Leah Williams gets another chance to fail with Gotham City Sirens. Matthew Rosenberg gets another opportunity to do what he does best, bore readers. Wes breaks down 2 upcoming DC Comics miniseries and asks the important question, "How do they keep getting work?" DC Comics relaunch Gotham City Sirens and DC Vs Vampires.

as a Catwoman fan this is an ABSOLUTE loss, a legitimate tragedy.
Catwoman's ongoing is currently floundering under Tini Howard, and now she not only has to be put back on the GCS (which is a really bad team up for her, it's pretty much just Harley & Ivy with their funky Cat friend)... but now we have to get her written by Leah Williams??? the woman who completely changed Power Girl?
DC just doesn't want money I guess?
The whole GSC concept annoys me too sometimes. Morality-wise, the characters don't really fit together even on their best days and serves as basically an excuse to make pretty variants of attractive and popular female Bat characters.

@@kelpietales4503 The GCS would work better if Harley and Ivy teamed up with Baby Doll (but she looks like a little girl so I guess that won't sell so many books) or Orca (who at least has some fetish appeal going on and has an ecoterrorist angle so she might work well with Poison Ivy).
Or Roxy Rocket. Magpie too but they are both too obscure, these writers probably don't even know them.
DC wants money in the form of variant covers with sexy chicks on them. The writing itself doesn't matter one bit to them as they do not give a single shit about these characters.

Who the hell asked to a Gotham City Sirens title in 2024? A sequel to DC vs Vampires is pure marketing strategy to compete with Marvel Blood Hunt event.Meanwhile DC books sinks in the montly sales more and more. What a shame.
Harley has more character depth as Jokers puppet than modern Harley has ever shown. Old Harley was Obsessive and self deluded. She could dress up as a funny clown and help destroy lives, and kill acting like it was a game. She would endure abuse thinking she was in love. Her weakness is what made her dangerous. Modern Harley is a knock off of Deadpool at his worst, or a boring "be gay, do crimes. Yass queen." stand in for hack writers. Is the original Harley a good role model? No. Is she more interesting to read about? Yes. But DC would rather have a strong woman, instead of a strong character.

I remember GCS mostly for the fanservice. This new series screams anything but. Why is DC trying to sell gay sex in a series that was originally designed to attract straight guys?

I don't even bother with DC and Marvel anymore. I read a lot of Boom Studios, Dynamite Entertainment and the Energon Universe
I love DC and Marvel characters therefore that's what I want to read. Me going and reading indie comics will never replace that feeling it is impossible

The title alone made me rub my eyes and sigh. There really is a glut of vampire stories. The only positive is at least they’re being portrayed as villainous monsters and not brooding, misunderstood sex symbols.
Also, the Cincinnati Reds once had a group of relief pitchers known as the Nasty Boys, so that and the Janet Jackson song are all I can think about when I hear the name.
“They’re just variant cover publishers now instead of comic book publishers, it’s weird.” It might be funny if someone made a humor book with covers for comics that never existed (like how some people have been posting posters for movies that never existed).
I’ve heard about two stories with a vampire attacking Superman. One had the vampire not only failing to turn Superman, but also turning to ashes from the attempt because of the solar radiation in Superman’s cells, which is totally awesome. The other had a vampire successfully biting and turning Superman, which is incredibly lame and should not have worked. Let’s hope this new series has the former rather than the latter.

Gotham City Sirens will be a repeat of Fire & Ice in Smallville: a poorly done miniseries that only gets my money because of some well done Terry & Rachel Dodson covers.

Wasn't a GCS book rumored awhile ago but written by Toni Howard instead? Not much of an improvement either way.
This mini series replacing the characters' respective titles is an odd move. Wonder if this is more proof that there is a relaunch around the corner and those books were just stealth cancelled.

Last time I cared about these characters was sometime close to rebirth (I think there was a summer special once that was okay with those characters, but other then that, then Catwoman had some interesting stuff in her solo comic at about that time and Harley Quinn was on and off okay at that time), neither of those characters have been good for a long time and this plot does not make me interested.
Rebirth was the last time DC as a whole was mostly in a good place. It really is a shame how much has fallen since.

@@Harls1992honestly yeah despite what some insist how DC got a huge sales bump and some good books out of the New 52 it created more problems then it fixed and some characters/franchises have yet to recover. Rebirth at least looked like they were climbing out of the hole that the New 52 made only to jump back in with Heroes in Crisis and Infinite Frontier onwards hasn't delivered on anything.

I'm a pretty big horror fan but never liked the big 2s horror stories as they're always kinda stupid even compared to 80s slashers which are mostly aweful.
Not gonna lie, the "Naughty Boys" sounds funny to me. I don't know how Williams writes, but this feels like a setup for one of those women's romance books with Fabio on the cover. Maybe it will pull in that audience.
I know when l go out to fight vampires, l think six-inch heels are important. Plus hoods, to restrict my field of vision, helps a lot. Throw in some sacrilegious style choices, and l am ready to rock!

The Nasty Boys was also a Marvel Comics super-villain team of evil mutants who work for Apocalypse and Mister Sinister. They are Gorgeous George, Hairbag, Ramrod, Ruckus, and Slab. They are the arch-enemies of the X-Men and X-Factor.
Leah Thompson only has two things big.... But DC vs vampires was played out by the end of the series since the heroes lost....

I just dislike the modern designs of the Gotham City Sirens. They look masculine. The original had superior art.
Doesn't look like hand drawn art. Look at the blank eyes the three have. Usually an indication that it's from a program or AI generated.

Oh wow, I just seen an ad for a movie that actually looks good, “A Quiet Place: Day One”, I won’t watch it but it looks good.
Ugh sometimes I almost hate that the reason I got into comics in a casual sense was because I picked up a Birds of Prey book back in the 2011, since the bastardization of these characters is just that bad right now. 😅
To be honest, the original GOTHAM CITY SIRENS was a disappointment. Couldn't get pass the second issue. I love Paul Dini, but the series just didn't work out for me. And if he couldn't make it work, why would anyone expect Williams to do better? Not even the Dodson's covers would convince me to give the book a try.

You don't have to enjoy that but I have zero problems with them being in DC and all it takes is a good story. Not to mention grifter and voodoo and a lot of these characters have been in the DCU for a decade now

DC Comics and Marvel Comics make bad fan fiction-like stories. I write good fan fiction ideas. Like my story for a new version of the J.L.E. (Justice League of Europe). It goes like this...
Alright, I would bring back the defunct super-hero team in DC Comics called Justice League Europe. I would have the new members of the team be the Golden Age super-hero the Shining Knight, Godiva from the Global Guardians, the Wild Huntsman from the Global Guardians, Phantom Girl from the Legion of Super-Heroes, the former super-villainess Psi, Looker from Batman and the Outsiders, and Skeets, Booster Gold's futuristic robot. They would call themselves the J.L.E. (Justice League of Europe) and they would base themselves in a high-tech mansion in London, England, U.K.
They would be a crime fighting team that fights against violent crimes in the United Kingdom and in various other countries in Europe, such as, for example, Edinburgh, Scotland, U.K. and West Berlin, Germany. But because they are not officially sanctioned by the British Parliament, the United Nations and the United States federal government, the J.L.A. (Justice League of America) is assigned the mission of stopping them because they are operating in an unlicensed and unregistered capacity, illegally using the Justice League super-hero team name.
So Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, the Flash, the Martian Manhunter, and the Green Lantern all went to Europe to confront the Justice League that is claiming to be the premiere super-hero team of the U.K. without the U.N.'s knowledge and approval. How about we just go full on "red light" the book and do a version where the Gotham City Sirens peg all the male characters in the great outdoors! We can even have the limited 1 in 100 "Pegging" cover. Anyway coping the other publisher is nothing new. Perhaps we do get "fang" burnout but this should be pretty good. I think Rosenberg is a good writer overall. The Elseworld angle gives is a different vibe, although good luck with reviving the line when you have spewed all over it and ruined it to a degree. Shouldn't even be a Elseworld line...just Elseworld stories. Let the ones that do well find a place with the fans and become some perennial stories DC can can back log and always sell. WTF20.

On,y thing i am reading at DC is Birds of Prey. I was excited about Gotham City Sirens till I saw the writer. I can't stand Leah Williams, she is a bad writer and I hated her X-factor run. I would say Tini Howard is a better writer then Leah Williams.

I suppose that even if Williams knew about him she would use him to make some lame cowboy jokes or a "From great powers come great responsibility" joke (since he was played by the same actor that played Uncle Ben in Raimi's Spider-man).
