House Of Brainiac Sags Under Weight Of Boob Jokes

- Опубликовано: 28 апр 2024
- This weeks Power Girl from Leah Williams ties into DC's Superman House of Brainiac event. And is the latest example why DC should be shielding important events from terrible writers. Leah Williams is stuck telling the same boob jokes from her Marvel days. And not understanding Power Girl or what makes her a unique superhero. So fans are stuck reading about who Power Girl would be if she was the books writer not the character created by Gerry Conway in 1976. Wes and Dok review Power Girl #8 the first of 3 Leah Williams tie-in comics to Superman House of Brainiac. House of Brainiac sags under the weight of boob jokes.

The day Williams and her ilk are drummed out of the comic book industry cannot come soon enough.
*and her milk
I'm no expert but I don't think a Kryptonian is going to struggle with the weight of their boobs when they can literally f****** move planets
Are they larger than planets?
@@roaringsteelmedia This actually sounds like it could be a modern plot line.
Boy,boy, I say boy, you gotta let go of these Hack writers.
I'd like to keep abreast with this series, but it looks like it's gone tits up. The writers are all boobs, so it's no wonder the book has it's knockers. It's sad the clique in comics just hires their Bossom buddies, but at least we'll always have good mammaries.
Gurl.
Love it!
I’m glad you guys described what the Psychic Jerk Jar was. My mind was going in a whole different direction with that. 😂
The thing is even when a “bad”comic doesn’t have bad art it’s the scrip that matters, when there’s a drop in quality due to companies keep hiring millennial activists even that most don’t have any previous experience in writing comics and things go out of the rails similar on what’s happening to the amazing Spider-Man ip and the X-men both are suffering in the hands of millennial activists who are in positions of influence inside companies of entertainment such as marvel and dc.
Power Girl is always good for a boob joke but these were cringe.
ZAR-nian. ZAR-nian. You're killing me, Wes.
I feel your pain. Just like the word "czar" with a silent c.
Power Girl: I need a hoop skirt and corset.
Wendy Harris: I found a Victorian parasol in the Justice League costume closet.
11:52 Streaky the Cat got powers after being exposed to a version of Kryptonite created by the original Supegirl during the Silver Age.
For the second time in as many weeks, I have occasion to paraphrase Ozzy Osbourne’s dialogue from Austin Powers in Goldmember. “Boobs! These comic book makers are all a bunch of boobs!”
I've been reading Superman and Action Comics for the past year since their latest relaunch; I was underwhelmed by the start of the House of Brainiac in those comics and so decided against ordering the tie-in issues for this event as I knew they would be pointless
12:35 this is why I coined the term SSAB. Safe, Soft-Ass, Brother. A black male character that the main white protagonist loves like a brother, has little to no testosterone and acts either gay coded or like a girl. Case in point: Justice Smith movies, Jimmy Olson from My Adventures with Superman and Ezra in Star Wars Asoka.
Basically an even softer version of Gordon Goodbrother.
@@arcanask No, "Gordon" is masculine. SSABs are either gay or written with many feminine mannerisms and dialog.
@@vernonhampton5863 So a black version of what Roger Ebert called the pet homosexual (a gay male character who’s only there to support the hero or heroine of the story and has no development of his own)
Streaky is an earth cat that got kryptonian powers from "X-Kryptonite". People have pointed out that trying to make Powergirl unique from Supergirl and then giving her Supergirl's cat is an odd choice. Powergirl did have a cat called Stinky (from Keith Giffen era Justice League America/Europe) which was a play on Supergirl's cat and Powergirl's connection to Supergirl. Streaky is a golden age character well before Carol Danvers. People can't help but see how simlar Kara Danvers is to Carol Danvers and Carol getting an orange cat doesn't change that. But both Supergirl and Powergirl had orange cats before Captain Marvel. In most modern day stories they just make the cat ordinary and when the cat does have powers it's sporatic because they made that a side effect of the source of the abilities (they come and go). If I got anything wrong forgive me I m not completely up to date on Streaky nor have I been reading Powergirl nor plan to though i do read Superman and Action. I did read the backup stories that lead in to this series and it was ok but they turned the character into a completely different character and added nothing to want to continue reading in it's own series. Superman has such a large family of characters and I can't think of any they've done right by. They're actually the worst part of the superman books as they overwhelm the book with characters with confusing origins. Powergirl is one if those and instead of steamlining it they make it even more confusing.
Can't even believe we've arrived here!!!!
Aside from the fact that it’s a House of Brainiac tie-in, the good things about this comic are showing the psychic jerk jar every time Omen uses her powers to invade Karen’s privacy (which reminded me of the douchebag jar from New Girl) and the Czarnians acting like Lobo.
Also, Crush encountering Karen and showing her Holiday Gals (from Wonder Woman), Karen and Omen talking about Kara’s date with someone, and Axel Gust being mysterious and vague.
I wonder if Axel Gust is a either a version of or actually Ben Rubel (from the Rebirth Supergirl series) because of hiding secrets, playing dirty, doing something neutral good, and interacting with Supergirl and Power Girl.
The one thing I can say is that even though this is a House of Brainiac tie-in, this is better then the first arc of the series and okay compared to the Streaky issue and the last arc where Power Girl and Supergirl team up.
Overall, this is an okay comic.
For Flash, the good things about this comic are Barry and the Flash Family (including Circuit Breaker because they’re a new character who has interacted with them since Beast World) doing some heroics and helping people while trying to
13:02-13:10
Wes: -_-
Dok: I didn’t like Star Trek…
Wes: 0_0
;-)
The subject of the bad jokes is all Leah Williams was hired for in lieu of talent.
They actually acknowledged that a woman has breasts? I am legit surprised.
I wish this book was returnable
My only input:
Lobo definitely reeks but he's hot.
10:25 That event was called Dark Web.
In Uncanny Spider-Man, Nightcrawler teleports with Mystique to a smelly dumpster to hide from the Sentinels (I'd say in issue#3).
I'm starting to forget that whole mini from how poorly written and stupidly thought of one plotpoint followed another so if anyone has any corrections for me to make, I'm all for it.
Dark web was pure original inferno event nostalgia with zero quality.
@@EvandroACruz Indeed.
I was looking at new releases this week and the cover of Harley Quinn 2024 Annual #1 makes Harley look like a gremlin. Paint her green and she is a gremlin. The saddest part of this is she looks like a self insert by the artist/writer Erica Henderson.
When did Crush age up to mid 20’s?? Wasn’t she a pre-teen Titan with Damian a year ago?
I closed the book on Power Girl until they change her name from Paige back to Karen Starr.
Using boobs or sex just a cheap way to get attention.
It has been since dawn of time
@@maxmazzotti6651 yes.
Well Power Girl is a character I could get behind (and in front and on top) hey, hey, hey. Oh wait married whoopsy!
@@PrivateCitizen84 Yeah and it's a cheap way to get attention instead of just making a great story and character.
@@ADragon-gi9mr Of course, but the character is prone to make easy Dad jokes about. I never get the same vibe about WW or Supergirl. Powergirl does have sexy look like Catwoman.
Let black guys be cool again. That needs to be a shirt. I notice current black characters in any media today look like they got a little sugar in their tank.
Black influencers were complaining about blacks being portrayed as criminals, so now their gay complaining asses are actual gays. It's actually funny.
I'm not sure when black guys were ever cool outside of the racial unity propaganda Hollywood was doing in the 70s-90s
I hate to say it, but Tariq Nasneed was onto something with his “buck breaking” schizo stuff.
He’s a moron, but honestly he may have a massive point with his belief that the media has been trying to feminize the black man.
Slice of life is fine if it’s part of the story, isn’t preachy, and isn’t a self-insert. I like sub-plots and quick checkins with the supporting cast, but the characters have to all have their own personalities.
Some part of me prays that someone who is a comic fan hits the lottery and decides to hire only the writers who have made hits over the last 30 years in a updated version of image comic.
$5 well spend....... NOT
Yes , Streaky is Kryptonian. Her powers got on and off.
Are we allowed to make boob jokes current year?
It’s weird because there are so-called feminists claiming they’re against stuff like that, yet making much, much worse jokes.
@@karaoconnoraliasraidra it seems a lot of people don't know their position on this stuff.
Probably why they say things to the lefties like 'this guy can't be a racist his friend is black'
or 'lmao aren't you pro black speech yet you don't like a non lefty black speaking'
or 'you're so dumb this how can he be a white supremacist, he's black, blacks can't be white supremacists'
etc
it's just common sense, you can be racist and still be friends with a black person,
yeah, they don't like when their political rivals speak, it doesn't matter their race
and the last one is just ignorance, like 30% of white supremacists online are latino, italian, spanish, or black
the progressive people aren't a monolith anyways
Hope so if I were in Marvel, I would definitely keep sex appeal alive
only if the writer is big boobed female
@@maxmazzotti6651 Sex appeal is only at DC, Marvel never had it :)
DC 4 life!
Back when I used to read more comics, before the internet days. My friend and I would pick up title, we gave it a few issues and said no we’re not getting it for awhile. I don’t follow any particular writer and while I don’t know who the current ones are…I’m not going to say anything bad about todays writers. I’m going to just go along and if I pick up a title and like it I’ll stay with it for a little bit. If I don’t like it I’ll avoid it for awhile. I haven’t picked up a Power Girl issue in years. She’s a hit or miss character, depends who’s writing her. Since we don’t have a comic book store, I’ll just continue to avoid it for awhile. I miss the days where I just picked a book off the stands, thumb through it and could tell if I would like it or not. I’m not willing to order it , only to find out I don’t like it. I still don’t know who this writer is, maybe she’ll write something someday I will like. Thanks for letting us know about the book.
It’s not just awful writers..Look at that art! It’s all color and no work! More foreign artists ripping through comic pages as fast as possible on the pc. Painful. No one cares and the prices keep rising.
I'm have only been getting the main event and the GL tie-ins, so this Power Girl crap doesn't exist for me.
Crush is going to crush Power Girl's ass. 😁
Best video title you've ever had
Awesome work guys
I'm liking this Superman "Event" thus far so i purposely didn't pick up this issue, specifically cuz of Leah Williams. Looks like it was a Good call lol
EXCELLENT WORK. THINKING CRITICAL
Nothing can save you now 😊
You know, there was a time when Power Girl was a virgin. When she had complete self-respect. When she was a strong character.
Then the new 52 happened.
Now... who cares anymore.
Just let DC die.
I think I remember Karen was a virgin back in the mid 2000 comics before New 52. What happened during that run?
@@kingofsapi If you're talking about the New 52, it was well...
When they retconned the entire universe, the comic title "World's Finest" became the Power Girl & Huntress book (instead of the Superman & Batman book). The New 52's version of Power Girl and Huntress was that they were transplanted from another universe, one further along in it's timeline & one where the DC Trinity had died saving the world from Darkseid. Huntress was the daughter of Batman & Catwoman, "Karen" was that universe's Supergirl, who was raised by Clark & Lois like a daughter (not a terrible idea actually). So plucked out of their universe, they try to do their best as heroes while not trying not to interfere in the lives of the alternate versions of themselves & their families.
Maybe I didn't need to provide all of that set-up, but that's all context to show that these were characters with a completely different foundation than the one's from the previous continuity. Accepting or rejecting this new foundation is up to the individual.
Anyway, one of the "little twists" they gave to Power Girl, is that... her Kryptonian sex drive is cranked into high gear, so she basically straddles every man she can possibly find (including Mr. Terrific).
When I first read that, it left a poor impression on me and that was before I ever found out that, in the previous continuity, Power Girl was canonically a virgin.
Now it's all looking back in retrospect but, I thought that was a good detail, a good contrast to her having the most (ahem) generous bust in the DC universe. I think it fed naturally into Power Girl being this super confident woman, she knows she's beautiful, that she's desirable, that most men want her, but her "window" does not unlock unless she gets a ring (presumably).
That's an incredibly rare thing to see in pop culture (almost like there's an agenda at play here), so I wish they stuck with that, even if it wasn't something they ever highlighted or focused on.
It's all really just another example of how no one running the DC universe actually likes the DC universe, they all want it to be Marvel and DC is not Marvel.
DC should be the wholesome superhero universe, not the gritty edge-fest universe. But that's just my opinion.
Thank You for Replying.
@@gojira387 Aw man... I knew about the different origin for Power Girl and even how she got her OG outfit with her outings with Supergirl in New 52. (I DID like that Supergirl was lost and angry in New 52 because Krypton was destroyed when she was already a young lady, and not just assimilating into earth's culture like previous incarnations.)
But I didn't read the parts where Karen was turned into a sex machine. Did they retcon that Post New 52? Whatever this current run is called.
I still remember the run pre 52 where she fought the Ultrahumanite, a dark clone of herself, and was courted by some intergalactic playboy who had fallen for her, despite Karen not wanting anything to do with the dude. XD
@@kingofsapi I have no idea what they did with her in "Rebirth," I was too apathetic at that point & I've only grown more so ever since.
@@gojira387
I just know from a few quick glances that they've changed her outfit to be more 'modest'. No surprise there.
Maybe we'll enter another golden age of comics with another hard reboot in another decade or so. 'continues to huff copium'
I am ssssoooooo happy and appreciative for the fact that I do not read modern comics anymore.
I spend 95% of my available reading time in the 40’s through the 80’s.
And believe me, spending most of my time in the classic era of comics. To stumble across almost any modern comics and try to read almost any of them is so shocking to my reading system. it is like a going from a small quiet town to a massive city during a all in festival , where you do not know what is going on or why. And going from person to person no one really tell you what is going on or why. That is the way modern comics are designed now. Just chaos and virtue signaling propaganda. I again I am glad I do not read modern comics. Save yourself read older comics.
It's going to be such a lonnnnnnggggggggg Decade before Superman becomes Public Domain...
So is it a part of the suck of this book that Power Girl isn't, y'know, as "powerful" as she's normally depicted. 'Cause at least from the pages you showed here, there wasn't any top-heavy action to be seen, so no excuse for not being able to roller-skate!
BTW, why the jacket?! Yeah, I know, "no capes!" But PG always had a great cape. Hell, the OG Captain Marvel had a great cape, too, before they decided to make him a wizard or something and added that dippy hoot. Always liked the nod to military uniforms in his suit design.
Luckily I'm skipping these useless tie-ins of House of Brainiac and just stick to Action Comics and Superman main issues. Wes do do you will review Rise Of The Powers Of X 4? That shit just only gets worse. They ruined Xavier character.
Yup same with me - not ordering these pointless tie in issues
@@HairExplosion I live in Brazil so I just read AC and Superman via scans only.
Wait, this Power Girl is from New 52 Earth-2? How?
Sisko is cool
So who will be the next character to get a cheap, female facsimile? Does Grodd get one named Gridd? She can pal around with Scandal, daughter of Vandal. They can go on a double date with Crush and Grail.
power girl's always had a cat. so did supergirl.
The art is as subpar as the writing...this book has 3 more issues before cancelation...
GREAT THINKING CRITICAL WHAT EVER BOOB.
Power Girl's muscles are still missing. And how is Power Girl clumsy? Did she lose her powers? A joke has to make SENSE. When you universe isn't a whole setting on a joke. IE: Futurama. Clark is clumsy on purpose.
Idk wtf Dok is talking about.
When have girls ever been able to tell guys are flirting with them, unless the dude is being super obvious?
There are definitely false flags where a girl thinks you're flirting with them when you're not.
I feel like he just makes up things sometimes.
Agreed here. Girls always think guys are hitting on them lmao.
*shrug* Every chick I know always knows when a guy is flirting with them. It's guys that tend to be pretty oblivious because we're on guard for either "getting used", or a joke, or just a girl being nice.
@@ScienceJesus maybe it's a generational thing then the girls knowing or not knowing.
yeah, guys are pretty oblivious, probably because girls are often esoteric with their flirting. Or worse, when a girl is flirting but doesn't know it because she doesn't even know she likes the guy.
I think everyone’s different. My hubby thought I was flirting with him but I definitely wasn’t. In fact, I was trying to leave. Haha.
And I was told that someone was into me and I totally missed it… then again I don’t swing that way if you know what I mean.
@@AL-ws5yi I guess I misspoke. When he said it though, I was like, "what!".

GREAT THINKING CRITICAL DC COMICS POWER GIRL BOOB JOKES SERIOUSLY, NOT FUNNY
