    Finally someone who doesn't spread the RTV with his fingers. I usually finger tight first, wait an hour then torque full spec, wait another hour before filling and starting. Good job there man.

    This was the perfect time to install the pan spacer. That’s what I did with mine. Z1 oil pan spacer and you get 1 qt of oil more and no leaks after 50k

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage

      It’s always a good idea to use a torque wrench. It’s only m 6.5 foot pounds (most foot pound torque wrenches start at 20 so you may need to get a smaller inch pound torque wrench. Do you need a oil pan gasket when installing a new oil pan or just the seal or both?

  • @TrueBullsfan23
    @TrueBullsfan23 3 года назад +1

    Would it be recommended to also get a metal oil pan gasket and also apply this permatex sealant? Or is the sealant enough to prevent oil leakage

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  3 года назад +2

      Its usually one or the other. If you find imperfections in the pan I have spread a small coating on the pan as well- only enough to spread with a finger, but it has to be an equal coating all around

    • @iamdreamwing3848

      Why do you need to remove all the paint if it chips on the mating surface? Won’t an extensive cleaning of the inside of the pan clear any possible paint chips?

    I heard there was another type of seal inside of it?

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  3 года назад +1

      There is also an upper gasket for the block as I recall. That’s more involved disassembly and not as important as the oil is not always around that seal.

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  4 года назад

      Take off the plastic bottom cover of the car first. It’s a bunch of 10mm bolts, then you should see the pan as shown in this video. It’s part of the engine, so don’t go too far back or it will be the transmission pan

  • @Bigyellowburner
    @Bigyellowburner Год назад

    I’ve heard nothing but conflicting info on this shit. I’ve been a Nissan tech for only 9 months and I’ve somehow yet to do a lower pan on anything.. I’m trying to put a cheap aftermarket pan on my project Z right now and all the techs are telling me NEVER use black RTV and never use paper gaskets, they are telling me to use gray RTV

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  Год назад

      Black rtv is mostly for oil and works great. I’ve had it on the diff of my mach 1 for 10 years without any leaks. Gray is more for timing covers and parts with a lot of vibration. The reason not to use brake parts cleaner is if it’s a painted surface that will flake and get junk stuck in the oil pickup tube.

  • @IkfNorCalChamp

    Why use gasket maker instead of getting a gasket. Is it easier?

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  11 месяцев назад

      The pans tend to bend when being removed and gasket maker fills in the gaps better
