I boycotted Walmarts when they first arrived here to put out of business the mom and pop local stores and to undermine the unions. No health or dental care , no fair wages, just to underprice anyone else. Now we have the results. The only store for miles so now they can charge whatever. Been waiting on this song for a long long time. Amen Jesse Welles.
in 1998 fugazi released a song called five corporations that talks about businesses buying up every available real estate to have a foot dipped into every corner of the world. it's scary how we often see these things happening decades in advance, and yet it happens anyways, it's as if they belong, and they've been here all along.
Drive By Truckers have a few I'd go with like " Daddy never pulled out but he never apologized " or " she keeps a loaded gun in the closet and another in the dresser drawer, just in case the one in the closet doesn't make a big enough hole" but that line is DEFINITELY in the top 5!
I’m not sure if everyone appreciates how hard it is for any musician to set up a camera, then play a song perfectly (probably in one take) with guitar, harmonica and sing. Original (brilliant) material. Damn, this kid is good! Walmart Sucks (Rain Man)
I think we’ll look back on this era of Welles as such a special time. He’s been on fire and so prolific lately. I mean hes always written great stuff but he’s putting out so many great tunes so quickly.
Dude you’re so deeply entrenched in the folk tradition it’s profoundly good. Such fun and awesome songs that capture the zeitgeist so well that 50 years from now people will be able listen to this and know what it was like to live today
This hits so hard when you are from the extremely rural south and the only store to go to is WalMart or the Dollar Store or your local grocery store. One of my new favs!
Brother I admire you so much. Speaking truth to power…and that little “Yee haw” before going into the bridge was hilarious. You’re doing great work man.
Jesse, it is a pleasure listening to you. Thanks. You have a way with words AND can carry a tune in a bucket. You know your way around a guitar too. Record this one on a CD when you get a chance. Be Well.

Just stumbled across this a few minutes ago, and damn happy I did too. That was some funny song you wrote, and you earned a new sub for this! Looking forward to watching a few more of your videos.
Hits extra hard when you've worked for this company for years and now we're in the midst of mass layoffs thanks to automation they say it's to save money while we've had record profits
well i mean it IS to save money, just at the expense of all their employees. they wouldve been automated from the getgo if the robots were free. lining their pockets was always the end goal
Jesse, you are an absolute pleasure to watch daily. May the world continue to come up with an endless supply of stupidities to make fodder for your wonderfully creative songs
ah man. only found this like a month ago. ive played guitar for 20 years or so and this immediately was simple to play and fun to sing. for a few weeks now ive been singing it overmuch through the halls of my house and it preoccupies my brain at work. excellent artistry.
John Prine is tapping his foot up thar in that heaven with a big ole smile on this face. John Prine lives! Love it. You're a regular gem my friend and we ain't talking a cheap one from Walmart.
gives me goosebumps, lol. if you slow the song to half speed, it's not as hard as you'd think. I only know because I wanted to learn it too. still getting the speed up a bit, but it's not too mechanically difficult. you can do it!
I made the mistake of drinking a spicy ginger ale when listening to this song for the first time. Now my sinuses are burning because this cracked me up so hard that the spicy ginger beer is coming out my nose. This song gets an A+++. It's funnier than 90% of what comedians put out while also being truthful.
hard not to. the local homeland here is putting up a damn good fight on the east side tho! employee owned and i dont even plan my meals til i see whats on sale for the day. theyll take my business everytime if i have the choice

Politicians do the same thing…
Plus, Walmart has the highest % of “full time” employees who need to be on public assistance to survive of all national retailers.

He's like the folk and blues artists that came out of the dust bowl and great depression era.

Cuz Bob sucks.
